  • In Quanzhou, the most popular style practiced is Wuzu Quan, or Five Ancestors. This style takes Taizu Quan as its basis, and adds elements of four other styles. In this two part episode, we learn about Wuzu Quan from Master Zhang Xiao Feng.
In this series I team up with Jesse Enkamp aka the Karate Nerd to travel to Fujian province, Southwest China. We are here to explore the arts of Southern Shaolin, particularly the arts of White Crane, Five Ancestors and Luohan. If you wanna check it out early, its already being uploaded to / monkeystealspeach or will be released on UA-cam around March/April next year

This Sifu really generated a lot of power in his form, and he seems to be humble and good natured, this is a great series and oh man was the pole demonstration impressive. I was curious where he developed his forearms.

You must find one of the warriors of Wuzuquan from Indonesia, namely Lo Hak Loen son of Lo Siauw Gok and grandchildren of Lo Ban Teng pure lineage directly from Ho Yang and Yue Tjoen Gan. They are one of the best in the world.

At first I thought the kata was a complex version of wansu but then, no, sanchin on steroids? The intensity, power and aggression is impressive. Definitely very similar to what I was taught in Okinawa - the c shaped stepping was drilled into us from day 1 the idea being to be able to explode forward at any moment and generate power from the ground up and out. Very cool indeed

I see similarities to Ryue Ryu's Katas like Anan, Paiku, Ohan, and Heiku.
