Incense Shop Boxing - Southern Shaolin Luohan Fist - Masters of Fujian ep10
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- In the last full episode of the series, we meet with Master Lin Shan Quan, to learn about the art of Incense Shop Boxing, which is the most popular branch of Luohan Quan practiced in Fuzhou city. There are several different branches of Luohan Quan in Fujian province, all of which claim to be descended from monks who fled the destruction of the Southern Shaolin Temple.
In this series I team up with Jesse Enkamp aka the Karate Nerd to travel to Fujian province, Southeast China. We are here to explore the arts of Southern Shaolin, particularly the arts of White Crane, Five Ancestors and Luohan.

Would you like to see more of this style? Let me know what you’d like to know about it below!
As soon as international travel is possible, you guys better go back!
Yesssssss morr
Body methods are always appreciated!
It would be awesome to better understand the concept behind "opening the hip" and "closing the chest/opening the shoulder blades". For the former, he mentioned that there were training methods. Did he show you any of these?
Yes, please!! 🙏
He is -----------WAY MORE better than I expected.
His movements seems actually fluid, powerful, and-as rare as it gets nowadays-looks like he actually knows how to put up a fight, not just doing forms mindlessly.
He moves like a 20 year old, impressive.
this guy is legit !!! he is blazing fast and he clearly understands every move he does, not just the form in a show ! look how relax his movement is and how he changing angle, changing height, his hands also circle a lot to trap/lock/block... he also a mastered calligraphy which old school kungfu usually emphasizes !!! a hidden real grand master right there. You guys need to go back and learn as much from him as possible, a real kungfu grand master like this is so rare in a sea of modern so-called "masters" today !!!
Love the channel. Looks like Master Lin has been eagerly waiting years for people to come along so he can he share his stuff with them.
Love this guy’s enthusiasm. Sharing is one of the greatest gifts to mankind. Such a likable fellow too. Gratitude!
Yes and he almost beat up KarateNerd x )
He has very positive and likeable persona and he moves like a person much younger than he really is.He is unbelievable individual.
Southern Luohan Quan(Incense shop boxing in particular) definitely needs more coverage.
This old man is inspiring. To be able to move like this at his age...
These arts need to be preserved complete on videos.
So they can not be lost to Time !
i hope you can feature this sifu again, his movements are seamless
Impressive figure living in the streets, living his art...thank you!
This Uncle is so quick and has so much energy! I'm entertained just watching him even with no explanation!
Not only this sifu has high level of conditioning and understanding of internal and external movements he also revealed alot secret theories, concepts and applications which are a big no go only teach to insiders in asian martial arts, a rare gem nowaday.
Excellent southern boxing...fast, powerful, changeable, filled with a huge variety of power generation schemes. What a pleasure it would be to study with someone of this caliber.
8:12 It's interesting seeing the part where the master/Sifu does a version of an arm drag turning him around to have his wrist behind his back then pushing him into the wall. I could really imagine that being a useful interpretation of the pushing done in Tai Chi.
Looks incredibly practical. Seen practical footwork, flowing strikes (bit fancy but still looks really practical), good balance and speed, slips and dodges, concepts of countering grappling.
Tango Zulu So incense boxing is Luohan Quan?
@@sevenchambers
Yes
Flowing strikes can be immensely powerful. Just ask the Uechi-Ryu Karate people whose main three forms comprise the original Pangai Noon that so greatly resembles this Incense Shop Boxing!
I hope this master was able to pass down the art to a point where, in the event he succumbs to death, the art he embraced so much will live on.
Simple, clean, and direct .... very organic feel about it. Nice. Thanks for posting it up.
This GM is a triple crown right there. Classical masters know martials arts, healing arts, and calligraphy.
This is GOLD for Martial Arts, thank you so much!
❤️❤️❤️. That calligraphy!!!! Mind blowing. Thanks 🙏
It is beautiful
You guys seemed nervous due to his unpredictability! Haha. Fun but scary
The first thing many noticed is his level of energy and excitement just talking about his Kung Fu. What's also interesting a lot of his principles is what I hear from my Sifu in respect to basic southern Kung Fu. He new just from looking at the big westerner he would have to account for the long limbs and size.
This guy is really cool
Master Lin reminds me of an old master of Southern Dragon style I saw perform in NYC’s Chinatown decades ago. He had similar explosive power with the use of bowing the thoracic spine for power generation except Southern Dragon style was more compact, not as expansive as Incense boxing. Master Lin’s comments on expanding the body and use of kwa is reminiscent of the baguaquan I have learned, supposedly derived from luohanquan. Great video!
If Southern Dragon is Hakkanese, would that account for the compact nature of it?
他的同门现在还在纽约的的格兰街公园练习 一般是星期天早上
香店拳是从罗汉拳演化过来
First off thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this wonderful journey your on through southern China and finding it’s hidden Kung Fu masters. I absolutely love all of the videos that you share regarding these top level masters and seeing these amazing styles I would have never had the opportunity to see and experience without your generous and passionate UA-cam channel. I was really interested in the method the teacher was describing regarding how to open up the shoulder blades as well as the kua. I have seen a number of other high level masters put a lot of emphasis on opening the shoulder blades using specialized training of late. Unlike opening and closing the Kua which I have been familiar with for many years, having open and loose shoulder blades to that extent is quite new to me. When the teacher kept mentioning the power coming through the rounded back I was really hoping you or your traveling buddies would have asked if that particular movement or energy is the same as in TongBei which I know also uses very similar mechanics. I believe Piqua also has that in common. Anyway keep up the great work, and I look forward to your next videos. I wish you continued success in your training, and pray that you and your fellow travelers stay healthy throughout your journey.
Glad you’re enjoying and finding value from them! It was interesting, because he was rounding his back a lot more than Tongbei does. We have some rounding of the back in Mantis, but it is transitional and to a much more subtle degree than this.... hence why he said I was not doing it enough.
Felt better just watching him!
I really enjoyed the last parts where he heals and makes you a nice gift! What a great experience!
He seems to "fill the space" just like incense would, and even has some wispy movements. Sometimes incense's power is in it's subtlety. Very interesting!
A spiritual successor of the southern Shaolin Kung-Fu. That's amazing.
I love your chanel, it's a treasure.
Imagine there would have been cameras 200 years ago.
Fluid movement with some internal relaxed hand strokes. Very impressive
Wow! i recognize also some lessons Yoshimi Inoue taught in Karate. Thank you for this great video and your work!
Fantastic video! Very insightful. This guy really seems "old school" and I love it :)
Exclusive unseen footage from the series, including all 4 Incense Shop forms is now up for just the price of a cup of coffee at www.patreon.com/monkeystealspeach . You can also get T-shirts and hoodies at www.monkeystealspeach.com/shop

Wonderful style Incense shop boxing 🥊
This really made me smile! Thanks for all the good work
This was a bit dangerous at first :) But this man was really passionate to share his skills.
Excellent Master Lin
Hello Guys...thank you for this video. Not only this but all the other videos relating to Karate and some other fighting brunching oit from YOUR CHANNEL. I am not formally train in any form of fighting and defance style. I love all your videos equally. Thanks to Jake also.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful sharing 🙏Master Lin is a complete treasure 😁🙏
That was the happiest day of his life. 😂
Awesome video and appreciate you sharing it with the world. ❤❤❤
Wow thanks for the share..
Dude is like Nytro-...Reminds me of what they said Bruce was like as a kid...Never sits still...
So cool...
His calligraphy was
not the prettiest, but my, ...
what an honour !
This sifu is a world heritage treasure.
A Kung fu master who knows how to heal is definitely old school, what he is doing takes years and years of training, no bs
Super Interesting video, what a passionate master, the neck adjustment was interesting too, I thought his calligraphy was great, very similar to his martial arts frenetic, but when he was adjusting your neck you could see his focus, control and intensity in a new way
I'd love to go there to learn from this master "Respects" Thank you for the share
I can put you in touch if you want
Awesome experience. Well done and thanks for sharing.
there is a profound humane quality in this master, like all people who suffered a lot ( communism), it is touching, he seems eager to give and connect, beautiful rare find !
@Metaphysical2012 lol
the master is a living treasure
@Metaphysical2012 Capitalists are the ones who destroyed most of old cultural treasures in the world ( and still destroys)
Chain smoking is essential to good form.
And surviving Covid 19.
@pan peter if there is any silver lining to this, MAYBE itll convince a few hundred Chinese to quit....
hey ip man smoked
If you know who you are you can whatever you want
Wouaw! Ce maître est génial! Quelle chance de le rencontrer!
good and nice
This guy was intense!!! 🗯🤛😮
Full of life and energy .youngmaster
great work !!!!
Another good video, Will. This reminds me a lot more of Guangdong styles than Fujian boxing. Some of it is reminiscent of the Choy Li Fut I trained in my youth.
Interestingly I think so too
Cai Li Fo is a variety of monk fist, so it makes sense that they would have similarities.
Great stuff...
Thank you so much for helping the Chinese to document their own Kung Fu without which we don't even know exists!
It’s sad a lot of these old martial arts don’t have students to carry on
If I'm remembering correctly that type of folding he's describing is covered in the YiJinJIng.
he he, I really like master Lin
another great video, very good master
Excellent!
A lot these southern styles with the standing still fighting and close quarter combat with mostly upper body movements were developed from fighting whilst standing on small boats up and down the rivers and coastlines, if you want to unlock your hips like he was suggesting without the ten years of training get ta large inflatable ball, big enough to stand on, put it in some water and try standing on it.
Great stuff. It would be great if you could one day translate the master's instructions in detail & add them as subtitles. Thank you!
He repeated himself a lot haha. The main points he made are what I translated as he talked
Hey.. i know you... Ur Jesse's friend.. I saw u in his series of documentary n particularly the episode with this master.. Best of Luck..!! 😊👍
How many people still practice this Art?
I hope it can be preserved for future generations
It's quite popular in Fuzhou
@@MonkeyStealsPeach I have watched a video of "the Karate Nerd" who said he is only master of style...Its fake news?
Hahahaha.... if you want views you gotta jazz up the story, right?
@@MonkeyStealsPeach but, this style is the Bubishi style, right? or its fake news too?
Mmmm, hard to say exactly. This style is a derivative of Luohan Quan, but there are several derivatives. I’d say its more likely the Luohan mentioned in the Bubishi is the ancestor of Incense Shop. I uploaded videos of the styles 4 main forms to my second channel Monkey Offers Peach, so you can take a look and see if you think there’s much crossover with Karate
Lively wirey guy! Enjoyed this episode!
Nice video
Anyway I can pay to get a full translation of this??? This is priceless information.
No need man, I translated what he said in the video. He just repeated himself a lot
@@MonkeyStealsPeach oh okay. Thank you for the reply!
谢谢你。高手在民间,这才是真正传统功夫的风貌之一。希望能传承和发扬光大下去。
do you have more video about this style in particular?
Master Lin's teachers?
Lineage?
What is his profession?
Nei gong in the system?
Or hard gong like shaolin styles in the beginning years?
Does master Lin u understand neither gong as a propelling expulsion energy through his meridians that would hurt from a 3..4 cm distance,or more like an enveloping strengthening air-like elements t or force that binds his body prospectively on impact?
Fantastic! 💚
Great video!!! FM
very well
💙
nice job!
interesting master but he do applications very quick without details it will be interesting to see more details and more slower motions.
Great content per usual. What a gift to able to travel and gain knowledge in the different cultures. Side note: How does one ge their paws on a MSP t-Shirt? Best
Thanks man! Monkeystealspeach.com/shop
Sorry not Jake but thanks to Jessi the karate nerd. You guys came together to put this together. I will share videos.Thanks.
Did the neck pain come back after a while?
U can the Okinawa ryukyu masters s karate are similar also like the sifu s style
u should look the original. Ryukyu te. ,,, u will find more similarities
@@MERVILLE3 u should learn chinese then u will understand whta he is saying
un buen contenido
This should never be lost
Nice concept. It would be better if kung fu masters placed more emphasis on application of techniques rather than 套路 in their school
great
we talk about his high energy, which is magnificent, but did you see how still he got when working on Jesses neck?
That was my neck, not Jesse’s…..
@@MonkeyStealsPeach oops my bad 😅
Wow, that's karate right there.
The Chinese master didn't think he was teaching another master... who's politely not resisting ;)
nice
Do these styles work for real street fighting & selfdefense , all blessings
Was this white crane?
What a great gift for you at the end!
Incense style
Awesome video where can I find master lin I want to learn incense shop boxing
Send me a message on my Facebook or Instagram and I’ll talk to you there about it
@@MonkeyStealsPeach I already have on Instagram, do I have to message you again? I don't have any problem doing that
Sorry, it went into the requests folder and I didn’t see it. I’ll reply there
@@MonkeyStealsPeach I would be very interested in learning this as well.
That guy is even more adhd than me!!! 😁
Broad, fast steps keeps the spirits active.
You can really see the moves that got passed down to karate. All kung fu share the same rules. Style is just something dull or dangerous done in a refreshing way.
Are there any other southern Luohan styles except Incense shop boxing in Fujian that you had a chance to encounter with?I can't find info on other Southern Luohan styles on the net.
We didn’t encounter any others, sorry. But if you search for Southern Shaolin or Sekkosam Shaolin from Malaysia, it’s very similar
Hello, Shop Boxing...
niceeee
Could you guys make subtitles for the stuff the sifu is saying?
