In a weird way Shen also found a kind of peace in the end. When the cannon was falling on him he embraced it and finally gave into his fate. I'm probablly looking into this too hard, but that's how I interpret this.
Po was trying to help Shen by preventing the prophecy from coming true if he stops following the wrong road, but Shen became the cause of his own fate.
Yea, it kinda tells his mindset. At that moment he prolly realised that black and white creature was himself. But rather than looking at himself, he looked at others who were black and white. Its the crisp irony of the fact. Also fun fact, Shen is actually either albino or a defect among his family cuz both his parents are coloured peacocks, he's the only white peacock
No cap…hearing Po’s dad say “Both my soup…and my life…have been that much sweeter” has gotta be one of the touching lines I’ve ever heard. Almost as good as Puss in Boots telling Kitty “One life spent with you, is all that I could wish for.”

Shen didn’t just kill the pandas he killed any animal that was black and white so that means snow leopard! Tai lung was given up by his parents probably in the same way as po . So they were really similar.
I think the chances of wolves taking down snow leopards in the same way that they massacred the pandas isn't very realistic, so I don't think this theory holds much water tbh
Jennifer Yuh Nelson should have just directed every Kung Fu Panda from here on out. She's primarily a storyboard artist but then one day just decides: "I'm gonna direct a masterpiece brb". Humor, action, and drama all working seamlessly with each other. Nothing feels out of place. Missed this in theaters but when renting this on DVD back in 2011. Where did you guys get the idea that peacocks can't fly? While they're largely terrestrial, peafowl can actually fly, though not for long distances. They roost in trees, after all, so they'd need to be able to fly up and down from their roosts.
"That's not a peacock!" Shen: "Did you see the peacock on the front door??" "Those aren't wolves!" Mantis: "This place is crawling with wolves!!" *everyone looks at her*
Really cool bit of color coding - Shen is coded red while Po is coded gold. In the cannon sequence at the end, the cannonballs come out red when first fired, but turn gold after Po redirects them.
Like other pheasants, they can fly but prefer not to, hence the myth they can't fly. Since they live on mainland Asia with many predators including tigers, leopards, snakes etc., it would not make sense in terms of evolution if they couldn't fly at all.
Yeah, even Chickens and Turkey are not flightless birds, so it's more like if they can go airborne on their own. Meanwhile, flightless birds are birds that are not able to go airborne on their own (not including gliding)
I thought they just glided never seen one take off from the ground personally. Yeah literally I bawled my eyes out watching these guys react to that scene. Not even joking. Just something about the sacrifice his mother makes and the person he becomes gets me every time
I love this movie so much. You don't expect something this good from a movie called Kung Fu Panda 2. Even after watching the first one, this one still blew me away. It improved on the story, animation, comedy, characters, villain, emotion, everything.
Another story that has the dual use of gunpowder based on how the user saw it was a small theme in Lord of the Rings. We see the wizards know how to and use gunpowder but where Gandalf uses it for fireworks to delight and entertain people, Saruman used it for destructive ends resulting in Helm's Deep being overrun. It's just a great comparison for the two that's just there in the background. Edit: and when Po's dad says "Noodles" when they run to take on Shen, it honestly breaks my heart.
This also happened in our own history. Gunpowder was invented in China, and for hundreds of years was just used for fireworks and crackers for celebrations. Over time the military used it for canons, then trade with Europe later turned it into guns, so Shen in a way could represent the dark imagination of some humans turning something originally fun into weapons.
Po's friendship with the furious five was always good to see. Hated his guts before but now they trust him with their lives. They didnt even question Po's method of using the dragon to get around the city they just trusted him 100%.
Guys, the future that the soothsayer predicted for Shen wasn't set in stone. His parents asked what would happen if he stayed on his current, power-hungry path. He could have avoided being defeated by "a warrior of black and white" by turning from that path. Shen was given a warning, and a chance to choose peace. Instead, he chose to continue with violence, and it led him to attempt genocide. Also, I suspect even the soothsayer didn't know what was meant by "a warrior of black and white". Sure, the panda village was there, but (as you all astutely noted) it could have indicated Shen being defeated at his own hands, or by someone else entirely. I believe her when she says she had no way to predict how Shen would react to her vision.
This is such a good film. "You gotta let go from that stuff from the past cause it JUST doesn't matter." ATLA taught people sometimes you just can't forgive. KFP2 taught people that it's hard to forgive, but worth it not for them, but for you.

27:49 Wow, I never made the connection between Po’s worst day and Master Shifu’s worst day, and how that led to their both finding inner peace. Crazy. I love this movie even more now. Thanks! 😃
Peacocks - or peafowl, to be more precise - definitely can fly. However, although peacocks are perfectly able to fly, it doesn't mean these birds do it gladly or often.
To anyone who wants to learn more about the Furious Five, DreamWorks made a few 2D animated shorts about them. And the Nickelodeon show had a few episodes dedicated to learning more about them.
It doesn’t matter if k watch the movie or listen to the sound track, but Hans Zimmer gives me chills every time at 38:09. Every damn time. I still remember that scene in the theater.
This movie is so beautiful, it really gave me very important lessons as a child. No matter how tragic your past may be, there is still room for beautiful things in your life, even something like a goose adopting a panda he found in a box of radishes.
I liked this one the best out of the three. The third has the best villain music though. Also Gary Oldman didn't need to go so hard, but he always does.
There is actually a short movie Where Po actually gives a lesson to young kids of the village who are learning kung fu about the furious five backstory It's really Good honestly
One thing that really made me enjoy Shen, was just the simple fact that he'll never be happy. I mean, some of us are just _wired_ that way. We can't just _have_ what everyone else does, and if we ever DO, it came from _barrels each_ of blood, sweat & tears we shed in pursuit of it. It just so happened that Shen was _also_ evil, on top of _all_ that.
32:09 tai long is not as captivating as he could’ve been. But shen has direct connection to po, a dramatic flair and almost a Loki story, banished prince who believe he would rule. Tai long was more selfish and he seemed like once he was wrong he didn’t care about shefu, where as shen’s turn came after his parents were horrified by his actions. Shefu didn’t betray tai long
A fun fact i remember from somewhere is that Shen in his mind didnt want to be evil and truly did regret what he did to the pandas because of what happened to him and his parents, but he did so much evil in the world that repenting and giving himself in, wouldve meant that the panda's deaths wouldve been meaningless. So he dove further into madness/rage/evil I believe i got that from Schafrillas' KFP 2 video
The way I see it, Shen was a power hungry peacock, as said in the movie he saw that you can do so much more using the powder and instead of just fireworks(which brings joy) he started to create weapons using them. The parents of course saw this and was very concerned and ask a soothsayer for predictions and whatnot, and she foretold that if Shen continued with this path(building weapons and being just a power hungry peacock) he would be defeated/ killed by someone(black and white warrior as it said in the movie). Of course, in Shen's unstable thinking, thought he could change his fate by getting rid of anything that could cause him harm in the future and did what he did. He came back after thinking his parents would be proud of what he did and was wrong cuz they were horrified of what he did and as punishment they sent him away, so he felt betrayed and felt like his parents abandoned him in a way didn't love him/ wronged him. I feel like Shen being raised as a royal, pampered by his parents he was a very entitled, he was very smart but childish in a way he could get whatever he wants his way, and then the need for validation and desperation and fear all put together in him- which likely led him to making that horrible decision, and when his parents looked at him horrified, he got slapped in the face of reality and out of angered and resentment and betrayal of being banished, set out to show his parents that he doesn't need them and that he could conquer china and prevent/stop the demise that has been foretold for him on his own (i.e. the need for her to tell him that he has succeeded for his peace of mind and his validation). His last scene with the soothsayer, is just him in a way realizing that his parents does love and care about him (which he couldn't see back then bcuz of anger) but it was too late to even repent and denied it by saying the past is in the past (which is ironic in a way that he is still stuck in the past, i.e. projecting his insecurities to Po "Your parents didn't love you") and that he must look forward to the future. And of course Shen has currently the mindset of a, "he had been wronged, and that the world owed him something" mindset becuz of what happened in the past as well. Anyway, that's just my POV. I might be wrong and it can vary depending on how the screen writer wants to show/tell the story and the character of Shen and everyone has different interpretation and since I have a bit of experience with psychology it was a mix of emotions and mindset and other psychology stuff is what I'm getting from Shen... soo yeea
fortune telling is very mysterious had she known what would have happened to po's village I believe she wouldn't have said anything or at least went about it a different way
12:54 It was reported that Angelina Jolie had to take a short break after recording that line. Oh she nailed the line, don't get me wrong. But doing it in Tigress' cold, serious and neutral tone of voice actually made her break out in a fit of laughter which is why she had to pause afterwards. She remarked that the line was just so well-written as a comedic one and it got so much better with the fact that she had to deliver it in such a serious manner.
I am of the opinion that Po defeated Shen bc defeat doesn’t equal death. Shen did die but he chose death over humbling himself and learning to mourn his pain, past, failure, etc.
Thiers some speculation that shen deliberately swung wide swings at the end inorder to commit suicide because he couldn't let go of the past. Hence why he looks at the falling cannon and just closed his eyes. Accepting his fate.
Nah, Po was moving between the taut ropes. Shen was swinging wildly in anger, not caring what he cut. It's when the cannon began to fall that Shen realized his mistake. That's when he accepted his fate. He never came to terms with the fact that his attempts to avoid his fate brought his fate right to him, but he _did_ realize that the cannon was falling because he carelessly cut the ropes.
11:37 Peacocks absolutely can fly. Female ones do it more often since Male ones are often lazy and don't (it's a big expenditure of energy) but both do fly -Source me living in India and seeing flocks of them fly around
My favorite Movie in the Series. I will look forward to see the Movie 3 Reaction. Also, I recommend at least doing the Shorts too at some point, that explains the Origins of certain Characters.
I think it is because of their long display feathers making it difficult and laborious to fly. It would be the equivalent of a human trying to swim with a bed sheet tied around their waist in terms of how streamlined it is. Possible, but with a lot of drag.
What do yall think about my theory that since Po ate (a lot) from the peach tree of heavenly wisdom that he was further enhanced or say it gave him a bigger boost. Also since he ate from it and opgway had his vision come true he was able to finally pass and where did he pass? At the tree of heavenly wisdom. Hence why he was able to to pick up kung fu extremely fast. How he's able to get concepts like inner peace easily.
"She would have been dragon warrior if he didnt jump in" not this shit again. Oogway already knew po was gonna be the dragon warrior so even if he didnt fall in a "ball of fire" he would have announced it in another way. It aint a coincidence he already knew lmao
The thing about tigress would have been the dragon warrior if Po didn't land infront of her isn't true cause it was always gonna be Po ... because destiny has a big part in this show it was always Po's destiny to be the dragon warrior, it would have been him no matter what.. and if Oogway really wanted to choose her he would have
even so, tigress wasn't ready. just like tai lung, she was trained to become the dragon warrior. it's not said, but it's clear that everyone, including shifu, expected it to be her, which had gotten to her head a bit. she also only wanted to be the dragon warrior to please shifu. both of these things showed she wasn't meant to be the dragon warrior. she did start becoming more heroic at heart, but that was AFTER po came along.
She's also the last reminder of his parents. Even tho Shen felt betrayed by his parents a small part of him know that they were right and he was wrong. Letting her live and letting her go as a last peace offering to his parents.
31:39 Apparently this was ghe first Dreamworks movie a character got murked onscreen. 36:29 And the mom's face turns from annoyed to sympathizing with Ping.
They’re all great, including number 4, but this is my favorite. It hits the hardest. I love it 😍 It also has one of my favorite lines in the series. The “Nothing is unstoppable…” bit 😄
Great reaction from equally nice people) Just one moment about the goat. She was asked by Shen's parents to show her what would happen to their son. She simply couldn't disobey their demands. I can't blame her for what happened to the pandas, but of course she felt guilty afterwards for what followed after her predictions. As for me, she plays the role of the Ugway from the first part here. A wise and helpful woman) I also liked the villain of the film Shen VERY MUCH. It's just that his villainous type is attractive to me personally)
Gary Oldman did such an incredible job playing Lodd shen, especially considering he is voicing a peacock. The comedic exchange among him and Po is the darkest part of the quadrilogy. That just makes it perfect.
Technically, this peacock doesn't look like a normal peacock in China. Although there are albino ones, they're usually green and blue. So, the girl on the far left is correct.
This movie was more chinese than I was expecting. Not saying the first one is too american or anything. But this one hit me in the feels. It doesn't matter how many of these they make. Kung Fu Panda 2 will always b my favorite. I think it's because the ending is more satisfying, it's like bringing the closure Po actually needed. Hope you enjoy the 3rd one too.

I might be wrong and it can vary depending on how the screen writer wants to show/tell the story and the character of Shen and everyone has different interpretation and since I have a bit of experience with psychology it was a mix of emotions and mindset and other psychology stuff is what I'm getting from Shen... soo yeea
Fun fact, Peacocks can in fact fly. Not very well, but enough to get into trees etc. I live about 20mins from some.
fortune telling is very mysterious had she known what would have happened to po's village I believe she wouldn't have said anything or at least went about it a different way
“How are they obeying a peacock” I swear I said that in the theatre when I watched this 😂
I mean seeing his kung fu skills should have been enough to silence that question😂
Shen is the extreme example of never judge a book by it's cover
12:54 It was reported that Angelina Jolie had to take a short break after recording that line. Oh she nailed the line, don't get me wrong. But doing it in Tigress' cold, serious and neutral tone of voice actually made her break out in a fit of laughter which is why she had to pause afterwards. She remarked that the line was just so well-written as a comedic one and it got so much better with the fact that she had to deliver it in such a serious manner.
The end chat there
"Was it a bison or a buffalo?"
"Sir, I'm not quite sure that's the point."
"I'll decide what the point is!"
I got the reference.
I am of the opinion that Po defeated Shen bc defeat doesn’t equal death. Shen did die but he chose death over humbling himself and learning to mourn his pain, past, failure, etc.
Rhino's hammer isn't what was shown in the flashback. Po's dad was using some broom or gardening tool that looks similar to a hammer
"WE'RE ARE SO BACK" lol
37:31 Aww, Po brought his stuffed doll.
Thiers some speculation that shen deliberately swung wide swings at the end inorder to commit suicide because he couldn't let go of the past. Hence why he looks at the falling cannon and just closed his eyes. Accepting his fate.
I don’t think he planned his suicide but he chose to die in the moment.
Gary Oldman did not need to go that hard to play an evil peacock. But he did, he did it for all of us
11:37 Peacocks absolutely can fly. Female ones do it more often since Male ones are often lazy and don't (it's a big expenditure of energy) but both do fly -Source me living in India and seeing flocks of them fly around
My favorite movie that stood the test of time
It's implied the soothsayer gave the prophecy to Shen's parents and Shen overheard and acted on it.
Shen is basically Thulsa Doom, and Po is…omg he’s Conan
25:39 Well, both Shifu and Po may have their ups and downs, but they still care about each other.
My favorite Movie in the Series.
I will look forward to see the Movie 3 Reaction.
Also, I recommend at least doing the Shorts too at some point, that explains the Origins of certain Characters.
11:24 Peacocks can fly😂😂
They just don't like too. Now why? I have no clue but they can fly
I think it is because of their long display feathers making it difficult and laborious to fly. It would be the equivalent of a human trying to swim with a bed sheet tied around their waist in terms of how streamlined it is. Possible, but with a lot of drag.
They released some animated shorts showing each of the furious five’s origin and one with their first team up
What do yall think about my theory that since Po ate (a lot) from the peach tree of heavenly wisdom that he was further enhanced or say it gave him a bigger boost. Also since he ate from it and opgway had his vision come true he was able to finally pass and where did he pass? At the tree of heavenly wisdom. Hence why he was able to to pick up kung fu extremely fast. How he's able to get concepts like inner peace easily.
Genuinely one of the greatest movies to ever be created
"She would have been dragon warrior if he didnt jump in" not this shit again. Oogway already knew po was gonna be the dragon warrior so even if he didnt fall in a "ball of fire" he would have announced it in another way. It aint a coincidence he already knew lmao
Oogway was the wisest of them all afterall!
No shame in crying about a cartoon panda. Especially this one. It gets me every time 🥲
I never said this, but I should’ve said this a long time ago, but y’all are a really good mix of people.
The reason Shen wouldnt kill the soothsayer is because she pretty much raised him when he was kid. she was his childhood nanny. 😂
Funny you mention Oppenheimer earlier given Gary Oldman here as Shen actually did a surprise cameo as President Truman there!
Kung fu panda 4 just released, continue the journey and watch part 4 too.!
They’re all great, including number 4, but this is my favorite. It hits the hardest. I love it 😍
It also has one of my favorite lines in the series. The “Nothing is unstoppable…” bit 😄
I Loved the First and second part a lot and then 3 and 4 are on par for me.
Po's Death Stare to Shen after he shoots Tigress: YOU GOT SCRATCHES ON MY TIGRESS!
that skadoosh was tooooooo clean
Great reaction from equally nice people) Just one moment about the goat. She was asked by Shen's parents to show her what would happen to their son. She simply couldn't disobey their demands. I can't blame her for what happened to the pandas, but of course she felt guilty afterwards for what followed after her predictions. As for me, she plays the role of the Ugway from the first part here. A wise and helpful woman) I also liked the villain of the film Shen VERY MUCH. It's just that his villainous type is attractive to me personally)
China was actually buying all the steel to construct the Bird's Nest Stadium at that time.
Navi is stunning in this one, such a good look.
7:38 About the Baby Po plushies, sadly no.
When Shifu showed up at the final battle I got the chills.
frrrr that shit gave me goosebumps
even at the end the master crocodile and Jan Cloun did the same movement of bending his legs
Glad you didn't get spoiled at the end reveal.
Anyone else notice spidey falling asleep during the movie 😄
Jackie Chan had lines
in the bit where when they first got to the prison and when monkey was tied up with the rest of the furious five
DreamWorks always cook with their second movie of a trilogy
Boss Baby 2, Trolls 2 💀
Gary Oldman did such an incredible job playing Lodd shen, especially considering he is voicing a peacock. The comedic exchange among him and Po is the darkest part of the quadrilogy. That just makes it perfect.
“A skadoosh bag” 🤣 Oh, I’m gonna use that 😆
27:14 I think you’re thinking of Master Thundering Rhino’s hammer, the guy who died
The flashback scene where Po sees his mother saving him and finds inner peace in himself honestly makes me cry every time. This film is a masterpiece
Technically, this peacock doesn't look like a normal peacock in China. Although there are albino ones, they're usually green and blue. So, the girl on the far left is correct.
You guys do recognize that shens story is a self fulfilling propechy right.
16:40 was Suraj thinking of Matt Hoffman the BMX guy
