Yep. Kai becomes more enjoyable when you consider him to be someone stubbornly devoted to his singular identity as a warlord, compared to Po, who gradually comes to accept the multitudinous nature of his own "self." And we also got some good allegories with the pandas essentially being a diasporic culture (as Li says, "Maybe we used to know [how to use chi], but...not anymore") and Po's previously criticized traits of laziness and gluttony being validated upon interacting with a community of others like him, some emotional scenes with Bryan Cranston (I appreciate that they referenced the second movie, would've been weird not to), the villain is defeated by using an technique set up earlier like in the second movie rather than it kinda coming out of nowhere like in the first movie, and nice references to the first movie (the vase broke again, Oogway has a role in the story, the stylized training montage, the F5 finding Level 0, etc.).
@Thenormies, 47:39 Do we really need a story there, though? Have you seen Fearless with Jet Li? I agree that the ending of this movie feels like a perfect finale. Still, not having seen #4 yet, I'm curious as to where the story can go. Perhaps Po will have to think about choosing his successor. I love how this film brings so much about the series together -- especially, Oogway's choice of Po as Dragon Master. Based just on the first movie, viewers might think that he was leaving too much to chance, selecting some random overweight panda who just happened to fall out of the sky and into his line of sight. Wasn't that putting way too much faith in some cosmic accident? But Oogway's with history as shown here, it makes so much sense. When he saw Po, he realized there was potential no one else could understand -- a descendant of the masters of chi who saved his life, a survivor of Shen's attempted genocide, and perhaps the only panda to be seen outside that valley in at least a generation. Oogway's heart must have leapt for joy at this 'accident', and understood the amazing changes that Po could bring to the art of kung fu, even if he couldn't explain his feelings or realization to anyone else. And when we look at the final scene, Po has brought about a phenomenal change. Not only are people using chi with kung fu, but among the practitioners are so many ordinary people -- the pigs and bunnies.
