I was expecting them to be concerned about jokes because of sensitivity, I had never thought there could be an issue with people taking things way too literally
i wouldn't say that people take things "literally" rater the fact that alot of people do not understand sarcasm.
Simply because of low lq (a huge portion of the world population which also lack the ability to feel empathy aka imagine themself in someone elses shoes and how they feel) or that they never been experienced it due to the culture.
Most people cant even see the difference between approving specific behavior and wanna know why it happen and the fact you wanna hear the other side of the incident.
If you are not around friends you shall always be superclear what you want to say and never expect anyone to simply "understand" what you mean just because its obvious. for a huge part of the population its not because they cant place themself in the situation and feel how you felt which lead to those actions.
Thanks for saving me 11 minutes
@@Nickerian91In my case, I stopped being a nice guy to everyone, giving people a shoulder to cry on once I realized that my feelings don't matter. Slowly and slowly my empathic side started to fade away til' who I am now. A heartless mf who doesn't care what happens around them and whose feelings I hurt, unless it's someone I'm really close to. These days, it's only my nieces and nephews(ages between 6 months - 7 y/o) everyone else can literally fuck off.
About a week and half ago, I had this co worker who slipped and fell. I didn't know she fell until I turned around, she's rubbing her head, my manager asking if she's OK and gives me a look. I look at her, then looked at her shoes and said "that's what happens for not wearing non-slip shoes" and continued on with my day. I wasn't like that before, I would dropped everything and rush to her, I would have asked her questions and helped her up with the help of another coworker. That's how heartless I've became over the years. The worst part, I heard she was pregnant and I still didn't feel a thing and did my thing throughout the day without asking her if she's OK.
I think people have lost the touch of themselves through social media. No one really talks to each other unless it of themselves to each other. I've disconnected myself from it as much as I can. I just use Social Media for Memes and that's it. Not sure how others use it nowadays.
Really? I find it more notable when tech enthusiasts have any sense of humor at all
@@Nickerian91 Fun fact - sarcasm is not generally used or a form of humor in some languages, e.g. Japanese, making it hard to understand for speakers of those languages as it's not a thing they use.
"It's an L, for narcissist" is one of my favourite LTT jokes
Funniest joke in the history of the channel.
Linus is clearly a post-sarcastic evil manager, he makes jokes that he is evil so we won't get that he is actually evil.
Note: This comment is a joke and it's not supposed to be taken seriously.

Maybe the solution isn't to not make these jokes, but to make them even harder and more absurd.
"Wait, you spent how much on this project? Well I guess we'll have to cut our coverage of the furry convention."
good point!
The same people praising creators that turn out to be predators or psychopaths are the same people in the comments saying Linus is a bad person/dad/husband/boss because of “facial cues” and “social cues.”
The reason creators go so long without being found out is because , and i know this is a shock to some -
EDITING EXISTS!
They won’t leave that stuff in. They hide it. Especially the stuff they accuse Linus of. You find that out from outside sources.
That is perhaps most concerning when Twomad's suicide was met with a lot of talk, but no one dares call him an asshole because "he was funny and revolutionary in internet humor". Sure, a lot of people were still mad at him, and I like that reactions were either mixed or moderate, but avoiding the talk like "hey, he was a broken man... and come on, his humor was influential!"
Nah... When it comes to Linus, now we get haters? The internet as a whole is a joke... Social medias come and go, rise and die, and now Twitter and TikTok is all people shit on, the neon-lit targets, but it is never JUST one platform. It is always the users, like Facebook was in the past.
5:58 200% what Luke said, and that's why the fact that "L is for Narcissist" joke made it into the edit is great. If Linus was more thin-skinned, he could've just told the editors "Yeah cut that from the video" and because he's the owner... that's within his right to do. But he left it.
I agree even more with his sentiment at 4:40
Honestly, the only evidence you need that Linus can take a joke. Is the fact that he allowed a thumbnail with tape over his mouth to be published, A sensitive entitled business owner like for example, Elon Musk would never allow this image to even be created without punishment. Much less posted under an official Channel by an employee
The fact that most running gags on the channel are at the expense of linus compounds your point. Linus dropping parts and Truth bombs
@@the_undead Most scary shit is that I already wouldn't idolize Linus (or anyone for that matter), but Elon Musk did nothing to boast his existence and people already treat him like a deity. Even when employees and peers say that he is a massive narcissistic and abusive person who has not a single participation in actual engineering inside SpaceX or Tesla, his acolytes still say "hey, at least he is an investor and the sole reason SpaceX exists, so be thankful for all his contributions and shut up".
@@the_undead it makes him money, a lot of it. Since he wants to keep expanding his bussiness he will do simple things that make him money and it wont tell you anything about his real attitude.
Elon Musk doesnt care about workers at all and has more money that anyone will be able to spend so he doesnt need to care at all, and he doesnt even try to care.
Some UA-cam channels have fixed this with a joke camera which is a camera that is only used when they're telling a joke with a small print of a disclaimer it's bad that we have to do that now but at least it works sometimes
random karen: "OH! YOU THINK YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH THAT BY PUTTING A DISCLAIMER?"
I've been there...
i own a t-shirt that says "I'M ACTUALLY NOT FUNNY, I'M JUST MEAN, AND PEOPLE THINK I'M JOKING".
my sister gave it to me, because she KNOWS it's a joke, and i'm really NOT like that. but anyone who DOESN'T know me would probably give me looks, and try to avoid me.
i still wear it out in public though XD
The best title is still "Linus goes into a real girl's bedroom"
Its because redditors are always online, mock them more
learned a few months ago that 95 of the top hundred reddits are controlled by the same 5 or 6 loonie mods
I mean the subreddit took the most recent hard r game joke well, instagram took it WRONG.
3:06 That was literally the Yard subreddit discussing the episode Linus was on. So many people said there were bad vibes all around, me listening to the audio only had no idea wtf they were on lmao.
Brother, I think you and your staff are just really good at acting for the camera. These jokes and burns just seem genuine and on the fly.
10:25 I had to ask my coworker to technically think my joke through.
my jokes weren't just stupid ideas, they were the electrical worst case scenario.
from then on he trusted me, but was pretty pissed when I took over work safety.
turns out HR doesn't like for the apprentices to watch videos of people burning up from the inside.
but that's what high voltage DC does to you.
"Welcome to high voltage electricity, where everything is a wire and you're probably going to die."
My partner and I absolutely LOVE when one of the LMG people spend waaayyyy too much of Linus' money on something silly and get to see his reaction to it.
These people must absolutely hate WhistlinDiesel
What a legend for not giving a single fuck about all the whiny softies out there getting offended on behalf of others
@calebmenker988 f***ing actually though, I miss the days where nobody gave a shit at all what people thought and then people just learned how to understand jokes
I would have to say this is because the Internet has dealt with so many conversations on the internet being bad faith, an “ironic joke”, and lying to the point that people on the internet will just skip directly to worst possible scenario.
anyone who's watched more than a dozen of your videos know that you are an easy-spirited fun-loving joking person.
and honestly, i wouldn't want to spend any time around someone that couldn't appreciate that type of humor.
some people, just don't like others having more fun than them. A lot of them are the hair-trigger sensitivity crowd who are real life villains.
The OG Top Gear guys I'm sure get a lot of this, especially Jeremy Clarkson. They play a lot of things for laughs, they depict a parody version of themselves in their various shows (haha Jezza's an incompetent oaf, Richard's small and likes muscle cars, James is a mega nerd), but far too many po-faced people over the last couple of decades can't seem to tell the difference between a joke for TV and the actor's actual personality. Same is true for Steve Coogan and his Alan Partridge character (a parody of sports presenters), too many either think the character's boorish personality represents Coogan or worse think Partridge is an actual person. Yes even after 20-30 years there are people who still haven't figured this out.
All you can do is ignore these type of people, revel in their idiocy and appeal to the majority who don't suffer from severe irony deficiency.
To be fair, James really is a mega nerd, and I say that in the best way possible
And this is why i watch you fellas all this time even after the test incident
"do you know who I am?"
"yes, sir. And I'm a Gamer's Nexus fan"
"shit."
"oh yeah... Licence, please."
Now we need a skit, Linus gets out of a speeding ticket with hot sexy tech tips
As a first, I had wandered into the territories of those "boss" and "mkb" guys during the past week and yeah, the self-absorption is real... in part on this subtle, deeper level. Which is painful to stomach once you see it. Well, I'm back without looking back.
I'm so glad all you guys are who you are, especially Linus. We need and love your integrity and humor
2:37: as the primary shareholder, “wasting” any money is just a win-win regardless as long as it gets views
7:55 That reponse would not only give Linus the speeding ticket, but also a picture on the newpaper that there is a madlad driving around.
Linus is tired of living in a world where he can’t drop “hard ‘Rs’” anymore.
4:40 Luke, it got you what?
The problem is that on the modern Internet, there are way too many non-English speakers who don't understand idioms, neurodivergent people who don't understand sarcasm, and even worse, unsupervised children who don't understand when things aren't real life.
We've had to sanitize a lot of the web of olden day Internet humor to accommodate them and sometimes I feel like we've lost so much personality because of it.
I do make mistakes sometimes, and sometimes I make them by accident. - Linus Sebastian
Personally think you should just ignore people like that. They're not worth your energy. If you find it funny, if the people who are your core audience find it funny, then screw everyone else.
I've seen the comments that Linus speaks of and it's enough people that they have to take it seriously. They can't ignore this stuff, and I suspect Linus is being a lot more cautious because of all the things people were threatening to do to his kids last August, I don't know exactly how many people it was, but Linus is a loving and caring father and that kind of stuff affects you in ways that you cannot truly understand unless you are yourself a loving and caring parent
That used to be a safe policy and for 9 out or 10 people it will work UNTIL it doesn't and gets blown out of proportion and a literal joke becomes your "stated opinion" when it should obviously be so stupid that no intelligent could seriously think it.
Sadly if half of people are smarter than average then half of people are dumber than average and self protective policies are normally devised to protect an person / organization from the dumbest half of the population.
If the smartest half are the cause of your PR / social media issue it is being malignantly perpetrated against you / your organization for all spin or media agenda manipulation purposes.
At some point, it's so many people that it's hard to ignore or that ignoring it affects you or something/someone around you.
@@crisdebug8675It's the first and third option, especially around the controversy. Last August some people were threatening to do unspeakable things to Linus's kids and that affects parents in ways that if you are not a parent, you cannot understand, You can try like I have but you can't truly understand what that does to your brain. Also a lot of people were threatening and harassing his staff and Linus does care about his employees so he just can't let that happen.
@@the_undead dude we aren't talking about that, or anything that serious. Take a chill pill, jeez.
I feel like another reason the “we made a mistake” title could be bad is that there are a bunch of public apology videos with titles along the same lines combined with someone who doesn’t watch LTT having it show up in their recommended or home page and start drawing conclusions.
Cop pulls over Linus for speeding: "Officer... do you want to see my tech tips?"
* Cop reachs for handcuffs *
you can tell by looking at the way lukes right eyebrow moves that he's obviously afraid to say anything against linus on the show, crazy how linus has everyone under control
it's the world we live in. people have been unilaterally been pushed into taking everything super-seriously. if you joke about something - ANYTHING - there will ALWAYS be that one person saying "That's not funny. I know someone who has that very problem, and it's not something you should be joking about..."
and you encounter that so much that people have been conditioned to take everything too seriously, and to NOT recognize when somebody is joking any more.
"It's an L, for narcissist." is my favourite joke from a LTT video ever, and fairly far up there in terms of UA-cam jokes in general. It's punching up (employee taking a shot at the boss, rather than the other way around -- other way around is much riskier), Dan's timing and delivery was pitch-perfect dry humour, and it has just enough truth (L for Linus is in LTT, LMG, and, consequently, everything that uses either of those 'brands') for it to really land hard.
I'm generally a big fan of comedy that punches up, so... Honestly, whenever LTT wants to take those sort of shots at people or companies in positions of power, I'm in for it 100%, personally. The only problem -- which does *not* seem to be a problem with LTT writers and staff, for the record -- comes when people have gotten their heads so twisted around (commonly by, for example, billionaire-funded propaganda about how hard-done-by billionaires are) that they can no longer identify those in power versus those without power.
For a generation raised on Southpark and other shows like it, people sure are offended by everything and cannot tell what's a joke and what is not
south park just helped make that worse to be honest, what with all the "jokes" with no punchline.
It think the problem lies in the generation that did not watch soutpark
I think it's because there's an excess of information, particularly negative information. When you have so much bad stuff thrown at you, you start to see it everywhere. Companies and people do terrible things, and only some end up being caught, you wonder how much you're missing.
@@hikarikouno These bad things have always happened we just now have a way to see it so easily.
The poeple offended aren’t watching South Park tho.. it’s terminally online redditors that call things racist sexist offensive before finishing a sentence

Funny story, I once had an NFL hall of famer ask me, “do you know who I am?” I legitimately had no idea who the guy was and he introduced himself as NFL hall of famer 😂 He was a d-bag.
In some sense, you've been hobbled by your own success -- your audience has grown large enough that it includes a lot of people without the cultural context to grok Canadian humor.
Think of the average person you know then think about how HALF of people are dumber than that.
People are conditioned to read headlines and the future of marketing is Shock/Emotional. There are deep reaching impacts we're not fully aware of yet about how we're on the stage all the time.
It's amazing they care more about a random creator making a totally legit, in good taste joke instead of you know, losing rights and money/healthcare out of control. But don't take away my shiny tiktok.
Social media has been a disaster for the average person's attention span and reading comprehension
Linus said the hard R word already
Rainforest?
Rock?
poweR Rangers?
I kinda understand this. My dad is often a vault of information and sometimes is someone that likes to crack a joke. So sometimes it's hard to tell when he is telling something obscure that not everyone knows, when he is serious or telling a joke. Which is why he is victim to someone asking him if his information is a joke, sometimes it's hard to take him serious until he can verify it.
Just full send it LMAO
Yeah this taking things way too literally is becoming a problem. People seem to think that because you have a platform you need to speak out against all the evils of the world. And that's just ridiculous
I think it's important to remember that a lot of the internet is becoming much younger and that loudness doesn't necessarily indicate a majority. Ps on the acting to be new to something, I think it's a really nice way to get people who really don't know about a topic to understand what's going on, did people forget that not everyone knows everything, what would the point of the videos even be then.
Sounds like it's because those viewers still think it's Linus and a bunch of randos. LTT is a corporation now. There are a lot of examples of channels that aren't run that way that have the same "cues" and they think they are on the same level because the how LTT operates videos are few and far between. Not that those viewers would watch them anyway.
I wonder if it would help to start using tone indicators
Please KEEP the jokes in videos. They are fkn funny and add a lot of content. Maybe even helps to keep attention.
this is so sad you guys always make me laugh.I love this channel so much it fells like home to me i always watch when I need to chill out I"ve been watching for years and years and i hate to hear this
Anybody who thinks any of these negative things about Linus has clearly never been to LTX to see Linus when he's doing everything for the fans. Linus is one of the nicest "celebrities" you'll ever meet, honestly. Same goes for Jay from Jays 2 Cents and Steve from Gamers Nexus. Great guys, and super nice people. Luke is right. People need to learn to take a joke....
Does anyone know what video the L is for Narcissists joke is from they referenced?
That would be the video titled "My wife vetoed my plan - New House LAN Room Setup"
about 8 minutes, 50 seconds into the video

They aren’t all naive, malicious interpretation is a tool people like to use to manipulate others.
The entire internet community is that guy throwing rocks at married couples because he's not happy

Biggest problem with "it's just a joke":
It's too often used as an excuse to say abhorent things.
And no, I don't think you're doing it! Most people don't. But as is so often the case.. a few can spoil the fun for everyone.
I agree but I wouldn't say it's just few people, cause being insensitive aka "dark humour" is now a trend especially amongst teenagers. Making fun of someone a little chubby is one thing, but making fun of disabled people or starving children, and then accusing users of being too sensitive was the reason i noped out of insta.
People who can't take a joke must be so full of hate and anger and I feel sad for them.
someone at Linus's family just got destroyed...
One idea I have: if you want to play the noob character, make it a proper character. Someone who isn't Linus. Wear a wig hat that says noob on it or something, and flat out say you're a noob.
nothing will make Linus humble .
If you get a speeding ticket you can just write if off, duh!
My real question is: is it really worth the effort to placate those people? Obviously the answer is yes, but the reason isn't apparent from the outside. Do those people really have such an influence, or are rhey really such a large proportion of the total? Even after removing those who could never be pleased anyway?
Or perhaps it's just an ethos of accessibility and you don't want your message to become inaccessible due to using a certain type of humor.
Either way, I admire y'all's dedication to walking the line between being conscientious communicators and losing your voice/identity.
“The Aristocrats joke was based on a true story” can also be taken seriously, people are quick to assume being dumb when in fact THEY are the dumb one with blind judgement.
Linus take a month nreak man you deserve a vacation
You only haven't gotten out of speeding tickets for being you because you haven't tried
In an age where even _career actors_ are getting threatened to the point they cant find work because their _fictional character_ in a _fiction story_ is too evil, what else could you expect?
Edit: maybe it's that those people can express that hatred more easily now than before. I'm not sure
People are simply too stupid, and social media gave them a way to spread their stupidity and affect others with it. I remember when I was a kid and saw in some shows that actors said that people often would see them in the shopping mall and insult them because they killed certain characters or sabotaged something. God, if a 5 year old kid can understand those are actor, you would think a 30 year old person would... but turns out a good portion of them don't.
Who did that happen too?
Wait what? Who is this about? I hadn't heard about that one before... 😅
@@chuck7952 I could not remember the name of the actor at the time (from Game of Thrones, which I don't really follow), but when trying to search them up I found a few more examples. One was Justin Prentice from 13 Reasons Why, and the character Bryce did such horrible things in the script that people associated those acts with him personally and threatened/insulted him daily.
@@blueberry1c2
ooof, that's real low of those people..
I can understand the whole "in the moment" disliking a particular actor due to the character they play, but if you can't separate the character they play from the actor themselves, that's just depressing
5:50 Ego is not a dirty word,
My opinion is that you should lean HARD into this sort of humor. I'm really tired of the mass Anti-humor BS going on everywhere!!

@@_devilfish303 lol. This particular instance is far easier to explain, without inserting any agenda.
There are way over 3 billion users on Facebook. Even if we assume that a fraction of them are active and writing, this is an amount of text, which would require unfathomable resources and armies of employees to screen and moderate.
So if you use certain keywords , it will be filtered out by an algorithm, without greater (if any) consideration for the context.
That’s just it, and nothing more.

So... speeding tickets...
I was driving through Texas, in the left lane, speeding, at night, in a car with no plates, no registration, no insurance.
I was pulled over and given a warning.
2 hours later I was in New Mexico, they have a checkpoint on I-10 to check for illegal immigrants... it is now 2 am, same vehicle with no plates or paperwork... I am the only car on the road, the officer at the check point looks at me, asks, "Are you a US Citizen?" I respond, "yes." And am simply told to have a nice night.
Now, to be clear, I did have documentation on the car as it was just imported, but no one ever asked for that or saw it... it was the weirdest night of not getting a ticket that I have ever had.
This is hilarious to me because on some level it's kind of narcissistic to be like, "I can't make these jokes anymore because some people will say mean things about me".
I love comedy in all forms really. It's sad that some people don't understand reality. I say make the joke's there's always gonna be people like that.

When I finally realised the internet is flooded with literal children, I stopped taking any comments seriously. I wouldn't be speaking to primary school kids in real life, so why would I give them the time of day online? "Oh, that's probably a 12 year old" is often a great explanation for why something doesn't make a lick of sense as an adult reading it.

Linus giving me PTSD talking about jokes. I thought he was gonna have another close call in being cancelled. (The R incident)
(talking about the joke stuff) to be fair there are quite a few people (myself included) who really struggle understanding tone even in spoken word
I think as of right now, there is such an expectation for drama, that seeing a title like "I was Wrong" inlists a pavlovian response. Usually the tension goes down a bit later, but right now SM is pretty conservative about humor. It's kinda unfortunate
