This is they type of reaction i pray for when scrolling. So overcome with the raw emotions this version brings that you wouldn’t dare pause and prevent yourself from taking it all in uninterrupted.
He is incredible. His voice just gives this song so much meaning in our lives today. I’ve heard it 100’s of times and it gets me every time. Great reaction. Your emotions were raw and that’s what I think we all want to see. At least that’s what I want to see. Great job 👏
Young Lady, You had the same reaction I did when I first heard this and it still does this to me every time I hear it. You are genuine and your Heart is open and Golden. Don't ever change!
Hugs -- first through infinity of hearing will get you every time .. David's voice is ALL. Disturbed's is a cover of 1964's Simon and Guarfunkel original that Paul Simon wrote in 1963. Take Care and Keep Feelin' the Music!!
I’m sitting here crying and shaking ….what in the world??!!!! How is it that this song has such power and effect on my most innermost soul? No matter how many times I listen, the same reaction. This version just slays me every single time! I can’t even fathom how anyone can listen to this and not be a quivering mess by the end. As a musician, I listen to and play many pieces and varieties of music and many affect me on a deep emotional level but none to the extent this particular one does….totally insane!
This masterpiece of a song is always emotional. Even for us metalheads. It's beautiful, dark, and has a heavy feel to it. Just like The Sound Of Silence is SUPPOSED TO DO!!!! Simon & Garfunkel would LOVE THIS.
Best reaction to this song I've seen in a while... I've felt the same emotional connection, not sure why either, the first time I saw this performance....a hundred times later, same effect.... How can this version of a classic song have this kind of impact on people from all walks of life? Makes no sense, but I'm glad I witnessed this performance. I'd love to find out what the musicians, audience, and tv people felt as they were listening to this in person...WOW!!!🔥🔥✌️✌️👍👍🤗🤗☺️☺️
Not sure about the musicians, but I read in an interview a magazine had with Conan O'Brien, that after 20-30 seconds of this song, Conan said the entire group of backstage workers that night had come out from the back to see and listen to this performance. O'Brien said that he had never seen that happen, before or since. Peace.....
I saw this on TV the night it aired. It hits just as deep now as it did then. That man's voice is pure magic. I cry every time I hear it and I've heard it more times than I can count.
I have literally listened to hundreds of these reaction videos. I love your emotional response you gave and the vulnerability you allowed yourself to show. It is such a powerful song sung with such emotion both dark and hopeful. It just pierces your soul and evokes such a response. I cry every time I hear it. Thank you.
This song is covered a lot. But this is the only version that when Paul Simone saw this performance. He reached out to David to let him know that he linked it on his channel.. psst Atchison an original version if only for yourself. Live in Central Park is a nice performance.
Thank you for playing through without interruptions on the first listen. This version requires listening to the whole song and then commenting, best reaction I have come across…. Well done
I can just have this song on repeat and listen over and over and not get sick of it, your reaction is the first I've seen that I feel matches mine for this song
When Paul Simon wrote this song, he did it as a warning to people to not be distracted into silence by Technology around them, and to listen to other people, he could see a future in which people did not speak, or hear each other, when he and Art Garfunkel sang the song, they did so with the voices of an angel, almost 60 years later, David Draiman, sang the song with the Voice of Avenging Angel full of anger that people had not headed the message! Paul Simon tweeted that this song now belongs to David and he should take it forward so that people listen to the warning!
Ooh. You *felt* that one. I love how much you let yourself experience the song. Metal has a reputation for being angry, but really it's about expressing full, raw emotion through music, and a lot of it is really beautiful. If you want to poke around some more in the beautiful parts of metal that touch people's emotions, you should check out "Ghost Love Score" by Nightwish. I recommend the live version at the Wacken festival with their current vocalist, Floor Jansen (she's their third singer, who was classically trained). The song has incredible variety in vocal and musical style within itself, includes full background orchestration (with an instrumental bridge in the middle), and is often considered one of the great masterpieces of modern metal composition. Fair warning though, it's a long track, and reacting to it will bring on a hoard of rabid fans who will definitely tell you the entire history of the band and insist you watch more. The "Army" are super nice, but very enthusiastic. If you're not up for a super long song though, I recommend Solitude by Valhalore. They're an Australian metal band that does a lot of heavy stuff, but Solitude is an a mostly acoustic piece with a gorgeous vocal duet. One of my favorite romantic songs ever, very heartfelt, and divinely beautiful in its clean simplicity.
You can't hear this and not understand the history or the 50 odd year old original version Written by Paul Simon and performed by him and Art Garfunkel. Your reaction to this Disturbed cover is so authentic and heartfelt. ♥️
Loved the reaction!! I was skeptical about it before I listened to it because I expected him to be screaming through the whole song. I was pleasantly surprised 😯!
You're so right....I could listen to David all day long too!! David Draiman..... a rich powerful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which goes straight through you to your very soul! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before........just hauntingly beautiful. Loved your reaction and your take on the performance .....David can make you cry or give you goosebumps or BOTH! His voice goes right through you! Thanks Gracie!
I have found that Disturbed is on a short list of bands that have mastered the art of doing covers exactly how they should be done. JUST enough left the same to pay homage to the original, while leaving no doubt they are making that cover their own. This one, Land of Confusion, If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, Living After Midnight....all utterly amazing covers...
First Gracie, I have to compliment your hair…It’s such a beautiful shade of blue! Also, a beautiful uninterrupted reaction! You could give other YTers a lesson! 🦋Lily🦋
The more we use our phones to communicate. The more the silence grows. Texting I love you the voices never share. People speaking /texting without speaking.
David Draiman chills me every time he pours his emotions into the tune he sings. Doesn't matter what he sings, the power and emotion is enough to move this old hotrodder to chills and tears. Stay true My Dear. You are why we watch. You are the visual to what we feel inside. Keep going, please keep going. If for no one else but us.... Thankyou..... I have a suggestion, and the worst part is I don't recall the artist or title, but it touched me from the moment I heard it even years before it became relevant to me. "Lightning Crashes, a new mother cries...." That is all I can do before I falter. My grandmother raised me, that tune hits me every day. Look into it?
This was originally written in the 1960s by Simon and Garfunkel. But they performed it as an acoustic folk song They did not perform it like David from Disturbed did. He gave life to the song. Their version was so popular that others like Pentatonix copied Disturb's version.
Great and touching Version of course, but makes me a little bit sad that many people reduce them just on this Song😢Disturbed is also a very good Heavy Metal Band. Gracie i loved your emotional reaction ❤️😊
I was there when Simon & Garfunkel sang this…now I’m hearing Davids version…love it, but breaks my heart because original was very prophetic…same lyrics, but David’s version is even angrier with excellent reason…people did not listen! Look where we are people! BRING AMERICA BACK OR Live with Violence….
If you want to hear a beautiful, rich, powerful voice, listen/watch the Nightwish song "Ghost Love Score". It's from their Wacken 2013 live concert. You will enjoy Floor Jansen's vocals.
The original version said "listen up, here's a warning". This version said "HEY, I SAID LISTEN UP-NOW- HERE'S A WARNING ". The message is as important today as it was when written in the 60's.
The official music video for the Disturbed cover also adds meaning to the lyrics with the filming choices they made. You said you have already heard the Pentatonix version. I would encourage you also watch the Peter Hollens and Tim Foust version. They have a bit of a surprise ending.

Ppl who don’t cry or physically feel your heartbreak from this performance are completely out of touch and belong to a sub class of humanity. You need raw emotion when it comes to things even as simple as listening to music.
THE WARNING The first stanza Simon refers to darkness as being his "old friend" that he came to talk with because he was awoken in the middle of the night, of a nightmare that still lingers in his head, that gives his a considerable amount of distress. So bad that the awful visions were still flashing before his eyes as he is awake. Second stanza begins setting the scene in which the dream took place: at night, him walking along the cobblestone road where he stops below the light of a streetlight. The cold chill runs up his back, so he lifts his collar to the "cold and damp." Just then, a blight neon sign lit up, showing that he, in fact, was not alone. But there were "ten thousand maybe more" all gathered in the cold night. The people who are talking, not speaking, are politicians, who are using false words to sway the population to vote for them, never revealing true intentions. The people therefore are hearing are not listening. They are taking these words that are spoken to them in plain value, not examining or putting into depth anything that is said. Because of this, as referred to later, these politicians have formed a government that the people in fact voted for and supported until it began to act as a dictatorship. This seems that Simon is making an inditement to a large government that has taken away the freedoms of its people. A future for America it seemed with the rise of government in world affairs as in entered Vietnam. This "future America" has given Americans everything, and has the power the take it all away, hence the people "bow and pray to the neon god they made." The Silence that is referred to is the silence of the people, afraid to say anything against the government for fear of death or worse. Simon, or whoever has had this dream, tries to bring people to speak out. Saying "Fools, you do not know, Silence like a cancer grows" that as more are afraid to speak, the more control the government takes and the less anyone will stand up to the new government. As all hope is about to be given up, someone steps up and says to the crowd that the future they will hold has been written on the walls of subways and tenement halls. This is because this form of protest can be done anonymously, therefore no one can get in trouble for it. This begins the whispering in the silence of the people, and starts the beginning of a revolt.

The original recordin and who wrote it was Simon & Garfunkle 😊
This was originally written in the 1960s by Simon and Garfunkel. But they performed it as an acoustic folk song
They did not perform it like David from Disturbed did. He gave life to the song. Their version was so popular that others like Pentatonix copied Disturb's version.
i'm crying too
Don't worry young lady. We all cry the 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th time.
Great and touching Version of course, but makes me a little bit sad that many people reduce them just on this Song😢Disturbed is also a very good Heavy Metal Band. Gracie i loved your emotional reaction ❤️😊
David is a classically trained Jewish Cantor. He was also very sick during this performance.
I love that you watched it twice, it IS that good.
Your reaction is priceless ❤
I was there when Simon & Garfunkel sang this…now I’m hearing Davids version…love it, but breaks my heart because original was very prophetic…same lyrics, but David’s version is even angrier with excellent reason…people did not listen! Fear the violence. And the apathy. And the ignorance. And...
We have a lot to do.
Be strong. Be loving. Be loved.
👏😮👏😮 I just love 💘❤💕😍it
Simon & Garfunkel was the one who wrote and sang this song back in 1964.
I searched for reaction to this song cover. I didn't accidentally stumbled upon it 💕
You had me at blue hair . . . . and watching the double reaction just made it better.
Hahahaaha 😂
Hey friend
Sweetheart, we all cried.
He had the flu when this was performed. He is very much a "the show must go on" type of person.
the other stuff they do is mostly very heavy metal not for me but this is my favourite track of theirs and the official video is the a cleaner version
Wonderful version.❤
I loved you reaction Thank you
Makes me happy that you felt it not just heard it
Simon and Garfunkel 1964, Disturbed 2015, Penatonix 2019.
I listened to all three and I love love love them 😁

I loved it
Loved Your reaction too 😊
simon of simon and garfunkel the authors of the song; gave them a thumbsup on their rendition
You should watch the official video, the graphics and sight tell a story too! Also, singing on Conan, David had the flu and wasn't feeling well.
You can't trump the official Disturbed video.
@@JoeJBuddha maybe not, but you can enjoy more than one version.
Try watching the video instead of the live version it's awesome too
The original was written and performed by Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel
Thank you 😊
@@GracieReacts Their arrangement is more subtle, acoustic and simplistic with great harmonies. They are true songrwriting masters.
It's not possible to do a better version than disturbed does it.
Everyone else said it. This is one of most emotional provoking songs ever. This version, that is. Always loved Simon and Garfunkel's original, but I don't think they had a clue of it's potential. SunSzu, I think, said there are only 5 notes on the scale, but the arrangement of the notes are Limitless....
Dave would you like the voice of an Angel or the devil?
Dave - yes
Stay awesome
Dave's voice is incredible, but the original is by Simon & Garfunkel, recorded before anyone in Pentatonix was alive & when Dave & the rest of disturbed were either unborn or very young children. You should def listen to more Disturbed, but find the original by Simon & Garfunkel, as well as some of their other music.
excellente’ 😅
I used to love Pentatonix but then I saw them in concert ... seriously underwhelming and we left early. Now I don't listen anymore.
Ppl who don’t cry or physically feel your heartbreak from this performance are completely out of touch and belong to a sub class of humanity. You need raw emotion when it comes to things even as simple as listening to music.
Make sure you listen to the original too! This version shook me too!
Wonder job
Goosies! Epic song!
You should try Tennessee whiskey by chris stapleton, awesome reaction
