My childhood cat Mary (often called Queen Mary) had too many litters to count. She even nursed and took over the mothering duties of her first litter of grand kittens. My sister kept a kitten from Mary’s first litter. Her first litter was c-section, and she was too out of it to mother them at first. Mary just took over.

I've witnessed 3 litters of kittens, how mom cat moves them several times to different locations, how she uses different meows to summon or correct them, how she brings them out to play at 5 weeks but stays close to their current "hidey hole", and then completely out at 6 weeks...and more fascinating behaviors. And then a few weeks after bringing them out, she weens them by seemingly rejecting them. The kittens look hurt by this but learn fast not to approach or provoke mom anymore.❤❤❤

Why does the mother cat reject her kittens after a certain period of time? My cat hisses and growls at her own kittens and I don't understand why she does that.

If you are raising and caring for the neo-natals or very young orphan kittens, don't forget YOU also need to replicate what the mother does to get the kittens to urinate, by using a tissue and quickly rub lightly over their genital area, and do this often throughout the day and night.. Hint: Have extra tissues handy!!
At about 3 weeks old you can introduce them to their own small litter tray, with CLEAN litter (they'll play in it, and will take small bites of the clay)...
BTW, If they have a Mommy Cat and she uses the tiny litter tray, Don't scold her, she's just teaching her kittens what it's for, through visuals and smell... You can remove the clumps after the kittens check out what Mom was doing in their "play sandbox."

I had the privilege of being able to spend a lot of time with a feral mother cat and watching her raise her kittens.
During the winter of 2019, I began caring for a female feral cat by feeding her outdoors and shoveling a snow path from the woods to an outdoor shelter. I could never put my hands on her to pet her, but I could hand feed her snacks in between meals. She became pregnant in the spring and had her kittens in a neighbor's barn.......who ironically didn't like cats. When her 5 kittens were old enough for her to move, she brought them over to my yard.
I'd sit outside with the mother and her kittens for hours during the summer days in a shaded overhang off of an out building . She taught them how to climb trees, hunt, cover their poop and would use her tail to play with them. The mother cat was amazing to watch how she kept her kittens under control .

Its actually 5 months usually .. ive had many cats female many while growing up my parents back then didnt spay our girls usually.. they were always five to six months when they went into heat .. however i wouldn't wait past four and a half months to get them spayed neutered.. my lil boy i have now was neutered at four months.. what's also good about getting it done is that if done early especially males, they don't ever miss it.. they dont spray everywhere its great.. however i got a water fountain for him to drink from so he drinks much more .. do to my finding out that males are more prone to getting bladder and kidney infections stones ect and need to drink more to help prevent it.. i love my lil guy to the moon and back

Hi! I've heard that, once a kitten has chosen a nipple, it stays faithful to that nipple, so every kitten from the litter has its own feeding place. Is that true?

My kitty cat Mimi had three litters before I got her fixed. (I was young and working a low paying job. I’ve made up for that by taking in and fixing many male and female cats, and helping find them homes.)
She had one kitten in her first litter.
    Three in the second.
    5 in the third.
    She was a great mother.
Where we lived was really hot, and fleas were endemic.
(I didn’t deal with this well.)
Mimi’s sister had a litter. She stayed inside with them. They ended up becoming completely covered with fleas, despite watered down dish soap liquid baths.
Mimi figured out that having her litter outside made it easier for her to keep the flea issue at bay.
But poor little Plop, her kittens became sick, and each died slowly, due to flea infestation.
I took them outside and let her lick them and try to nurse them.
There are many reasons why this happened, but I’ll never forgive myself, despite my age for not figuring out how to deal with the situation.
When I still lived w/ my mom, we had cats all over the place, tons of kittens. Never fixing any one of them. When we were evicted from our apartment, we left three litters in a large box, with the three related mothers.
In fact, when there were two litters, the mothers took turns feeding them.
One day, my little brother opened the closet door, and found the grandmother cat actually eating a kitten.
There were I think 11 kittens. Too much for the mothers to handle.
Over population for mothers is hard to handle.
I don’t recall my mom really buying them food.
    I think they just hunted.
    Anyway.
This has been a chaotic, sad, gruesome tale. And I apologize for that.
As soon as I was on my own (16), and working, I was able to take proper care of my cat. (Singular).
And I hope that the cat goddess Bastet forgives me for being so unable to be a good kitty care person.
I’m good at it now, of course. It’s been 36 years.

We also had a stray cat named Chilli that would bring us her kittens. Both Twinkle and Venus raised multiple litters of Chilli's kittens until we were able to catch her and get her spade.

I have a bit of a hard time believing that this dude drank 50 beers a day. I used to drink the entire time I was awake and I had to get up when I had been sleeping for an hour or so and slam half a quart of malt liquor just so I didn't have withdrawals. I was a line cook and I had free access to whiskey that I needed to make an irish whiskey sauce for bread pudding, Chablis that we used to deglaze pans and add flavor to sautéed dishes, and all I needed to do to get sevral gallons of beer in a 5 gallon bucket was to hand a bucket to the bartenders at the service bar. I needed beer to make beer batter for fried mushrooms and onion rings. I think that in order to drink 50 beers a day I'd have to give up on getting any sleep and quit my job to concentrate on powering down beers. I remember one time I didn't have anything to drink for probably 8-9 hours and I was shaking so bad I couldn't sign my paycheck to cash it so I could buy beer so I wasn't sick.

I have been using contraceptive pills on my cats, which last a week. Every Tuesday or Wednesday, I wrap the pills up in a little ball of liverwurst (making sure to use the plain kind, which has no garlic or onion), and give each of the girlies one. They love the extra treat and scarf them right up. No fights trying to stuff a pill down their throats and they get a weekly reminder that I am the source of All Things Good.
