The line should always come off the front of the spade,and not off the back,if you use saliva before you pull the line tight you can tie 22 sized hooks.. I do, just don't wrap as many times as the demo shows..

It would be nice to see some real world hooks tied 18 20 22 24 those hook tiers are darn useless for smaller hooks

Maybe, but even such hooks are difficult to knit by hand.
