It never ceases to amaze me how many people slow down their boat the second the bow hits under water. Just opening up for more and more, and they just can't grasp why.

Boatmanship 101. It's just like an airplane when you land and bounce; Add power and hold it off, then reduce power and let it land the correct way.
I come from more of a sailing background than power, but the foredeck was always for the young guys, who didn't mind getting bounced around, swept by waves and soaked to the skin. We all get old but still miss those days.

What I've Learned from these videos: 1) ALWAYS sit at the BACK of the Boat when going through the Haulover Inlet . . . 2) Wear a LifeJacket

In France, we call the kind of sea moron " Sunday sailors". It's amazing. In wavy sea and specialy vicious places like that, everybody must be in the cockpit to center the weight and never, ever stay on the sun deck. It's elementary security.
Second: never , never slow down to meet the wave. Just before it you have to push gaz to raise the bow and as so as you're in, you slow down and after you push again for the next wave.
When you have a wonder boat like a Boston Whaler and a 300 CV motor, it's a kid game.
I know very, very little about boats. But in my highly inexpert opinion, the main thing many of these "captains" did wrong was to put their boat in the water. Especially the ones that put their lake boats in the sea.

First guy was something - I didn’t think you could stuff a Boston Whaler. TBF I only know them from here but based on seeing them on this channel, they usually skip through Haulover like a spinning stone on a pond!

sooo.. I'm just curious when I see all of these small crafts and pontoons headed out to the Atlantic... just where are they all going? Just out to sea to pudge around with the waves or is there a really cool area they all head to? Just curious.
Great up at haulover, there is nowhere to go in the ocean unless to fish. All the cool bars and restaurants are in the bay area opposite of the ocean....loved my life jumping off that bridge, fishing and spearfishing there...

Mystery Boat might be an Irvette. I think that a lot of people commenting don't understand standing waves vs normal wind-driven waves and how the tide's direction and strength affect the inlet. Sometimes it's rough as hell, sometimes it's not but each time is different and you may need to change tactics to successfully get through it. Secondly, a bit of water over the bow is not automatically a bad thing. Most decent boats are designed with scuppers to shed water. Conversely, most people's backs are not intended to be hacked to bits as a guy slams over top of the waves. There are plenty of vids showing exactly that. I'd rather get a bit wet than have the snot knocked out of me by a ham-fisted guy mindlessly hauling ass over large waves. Disclaimer *** I've never run Haulover, but I do have a USCG license, a bad back, and have been screwing around on boats since 1975.

What could the captain have done differently in the first video? Turned the bilge pumps on and sent it a little harder. I think that trying to soak the woman in the yellow shirt might have been just a bit intentional.

I come from a sailing background, where the foredeck was always the domain of the young and adventurous. They laughed in the face of the sea's challenges, embracing every splash and jolt with a sense of invincibility. Now that we’re older, we often reminisce about those exhilarating days, missing the camaraderie and the adrenaline rush of riding the waves together. Those were the days when the sea was our playground, and every wave was a new adventure.

If you want a smooth ride over such waves then trim out and go barely slower than planing speed, so it rides bow high.
If you're ok with hard knocks AND the waves aren't higher than your bow while on plane, then go at or above plane so most of your hull is raised up out of the water.
7:17 mystery boat is an SS MINNOW II , he will only be on a three hour tour…a three hour tour!!!
The second boat did not trim the Moter up. I have a 17-foot boat in Minnesota and have challenged 6-foot waves. The only way to do it is high plain your boats. In the six-foot waves, only gave mist from the waves hitting my boat. In Minnesota, when the weather condition is right, we can have up to ten-feet waves on some lakes. Captains must learn their boats potential before wandering off into the extreme. In my 17-foot boat, I will not go out if the waves are over 6 feet.
Go faster!
1. Passengers stay in the rear.
2. Put the front covering on and close the center window
3. Wear automatic inflatable life jackets.
4. All people return home alive.
don't need to do all that with a competent cap. he needs to trim up the engines and raise the bow then he plows right through.

Get the tonnage off of the bow while navigating through the inlet. Weight transfer would be much improved. Also close the door to help divert water away from cavity of the boat.

Regardless, the answer to your second question is what it usually is: inexperienced "captain" in a Lake Boat pretending they know what they're doing at Haulover.

Sort of misleading title. To me, "swamped" means a flooded boat, not just splashed.

Can someone explain to me, what is out there that everyone goes to? Like 3/4 of them don't have fishing rods or like stuff with them so what do all these people go out and do? I am from the UK so know nothing about the area
That's what I keep asking. The sandbar seems to be on the inside of the inlet. But no one seems to know where all these boats are going.

Just because you are more wealthy than a normal person and can afford a boat does not mean you are a Captain and can operate a boat, Some should not be behind the helm of a boat.
I think they're going too slow and getting caught up in the swells.
I do not get why captains let people ride on the bow going through the inlet. I was born on the water and I would for sure stop and get ready for the inlet have everyone behind the windshield so we can go trough the inlet safely. They have to know about what to expect going trough there right ?

Whoever sells these boats the purchaser needs boating theory training.. Bow up with throttle pretty simple theory.
The passengers could have ridden in the back of the boat.
People need to watch WavyBoats to learn how to drive! Not keeping on the throttle to keep the bow up and letting a bunch of people ride in the bow is ridiculous. Money can buy a boat, but not the ability to actually operate one correctly!
