Great reaction Amelia i love this movie! And some fun-facts about this movie. The cop in booking that finds the PCP on Louis was Frank Oz, the famous puppeteer and voice for Yoda and many other Muppets and characters like Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Grover and Cookie Monster. He plays a similar role in Blues Brothers. And the the pawn broker is played by the one-and-only rock and rol hall of fame Bo Diddley. There are other Cameos too like, Richard Hunt as Wilson as a stock market trader, Al Franken as a Baggage Handler in the train, a young Giancarlo Esposito as a cellmate when Eddie character is in jail, and Jamie Lee Curtis younger sister Kelly Curtis as a cameo too as Penelope's friend Muffy on the scene in the country club. Keep up the good work. And happy holidays

    1. The booking officer is Frank Oz. (various Muppets/Yoda)
    2. Beeks/Paul Gleason also played Richard Vernon in "The Breakfast Club" and the idiot assistant police captain in "Die Hard". 😇
    3. Landis didn't want Jamie Lee Curtis because she had always been a "scream queen" and he didn't know if she had the chops for comedy.
    4. When everyone pauses in the restaurant it's a play on the old "EF Hutton" commercial. "When EF Hutton speaks everybody listens".
    5. One of the most VHS pauses in history. Jamie Lee Curtis.😍🥰😋
    6. GOOF: Where did Louis get the gun AND all those drugs for only $50?🤑Even in 1983.
    7. Don Ameche's strong religious convictions made him uncomfortable with swearing. This proved to be a problem for the scene at the end of the movie, where he had to shout out "Fuck him!" to a group of Wall Street executives. When he did act out the scene, it had to be done in one take, because Ameche refused to do a second one. He also had an issue with the N word.
    8. There's an Easter egg in "Coming to America" with the Duke brothers. Eddie Murphy at his best.

Brilliant reaction to this comedy classic, I enjoyed watching it with Amelia :) I love her reactions and I highly recommend she react to The Blues Brothers (1980) also directed by John Landis & starring Dan Ackroyd; it's an hilarious comedy musical.

Cool, I can't wait to watch Amelia's reaction to this comedy classic :) she's one of my favourite Popcorn Roulette reactors & this movie is hilarious and is the perfect holiday season flick. Please could she react to Coming To America as well? It also stars Eddie Murphy and is also directed by John Landis. It's connected to Trading Places in a small way and is equally as funny. I hope you all had a nice Christmas? :)

All those early 80s to 90s movies, involving directing by frank Oz, (he always puts himself in his movies...look for the bald guy with glasses!) and films involved with acting ,writing, production ,etc., with Ramis, Ivan Reitman,Akroyd, Murray etc., and these monster comedies that first used the ultra serious John Williams for music!!!(Animal House !)was just all comedy genius! Going back to Animal House, blues Brothers, Stripes, of course the Ghostbusters stuff....it's just all comedy gold! Pro tip, U WILL see a cameo again of the Duke Brothers, in the first Coming to America, also an Eddie Murphy movie! The Duke Brothers are Old School Hollywood royalty! Been acting since black and white! Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche!
Also about commodity trading.... it's brutal! It's like day trading on steroids! And unless it's changed, this is how it's worked in America for over 200 years! Ur busy, sells, holds, boss traders, floor traders, u name it, do Business right then and there, on the floor, and money is owed, at end of day! The sad part is? They never did a sequel! Pro tip... The shorter freight handler guy is Al Franken, long time SNL writer, became a senator from Minnesota, and got his ass kicked out for massive amounts of misogyny and sexual harassment!
The ape costume guy is Jim Belushi brother of the masterful John Belushi, and did many good movies himself, all the way back to Thief, Curly Sue, K-9 cop, an Arnold movie, and Return to Me.
This was Murphy's first movie after SNL, his first was the greatest, 48 hours! Imagine ur twenty or twenty one years old and ur first 6 movies are 48 hours, this, Best Defense, golden child, Beverly hills cop and Coming to America, and of course SNL,which akroyd was a first major veteran of. Eddie joined SNL at 18! He left and did this, I'm not sure he was even 21 yet! But I'm sure while on SNL, akroyd recognized the talent!!

Interesting fact, the song that is playing during Eddie Murphy’s house party is “Do You wanna Funk?” By Sylvester. Sylvester was a Black, Male, openly-homosexual singer in the 70’s-80’s, which was unheard of at the time. He was a trailblazer for Queer Music artists. He has several certified Disco Classics under his belt. He was a true Queer icon, that is never talked about. He was a talented singer with an amazing vocal range who refused to be categorized sexually. He described himself as just “Sylvester”. And i love that. May he rest in peace.

The title "Trading Places" is a play on words:
one the one hand it refers to the place where trading takes place: the Stock Exchange.
On the other hand _(as you already guessed)_ it refers to a poor guy and a rich guy trading their places.

I have to convert dollar values from 1983 to today. In the beginning Louis got the Duke brothers an extra $347,000 (doesn't sound like much) but converted to 2024 that's just over $1M whoah! Then in the end the Dukes were on the hook for $394M due by end of the day which today is worth $1.2 billion... okay that's a lot to owe in one day.

That's an especially curious mistake. The number one rule when it comes to gambling or investing is to understand that there _are_ no sure things. Any money you invest you might end up losing. The odds may be incredibly low, but they're never zero. So never put in what you cannot afford to lose.

One of the best Christmas comedies. Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy were well known, talented actors from the golden era of Hollywood. Don Ameche had a reputation as one of the last real gentlemen of Hollywood. He kept apologizing to Eddie Murphy for using the N word, and Murphy had to reassure him that it was ok.
The baggage handlers were played by Al Franken and Tom Davis who appeared in comedy bits on the original Saturday night Live as Franken and Davis. Franken later served as a US Senator.
Carol Burnett is hilarious, but she would have been 50 years old, a couple decades older than Aykroyd, when this movie was released.

2:10 - well, there is only so much a person can learn and do in the day. Successful people leave work that does not require special skills or education to other people (like cooking, cleaning, hanging clothes), and focus on learning skills that will make them rich. So when people say: oh, rich person doesn't know how to wash dishes". That's because you can teach a monkey to do that, why waste your time learning that skill.
