    All righty. The changes made to The Empire Strikes Back. First of all, I gotta mention, this movie was altered the least in the Special Edition and subsequent DVD and Blu-ray releases, so the only major changes made were for continuity purposes to connect these three films with the Prequels. So, with that said, let's get into the matter at hand. To start off, we have Boba Fett being recast in terms of his voice actor. Originally, he was voiced by this guy named Jason Wingreen (I've never heard of him nor do I know any of the movies he was in before this one, so please don't ask), but here, the lines were re-recorded by a new actor, Temuera Morrison. If you're a Disney fan, then you might recognize him as the voice of Moana's father. As for the Emperor, originally, he was originally physically portrayed by actress Elaine Baker and voiced by actor Clive Revill (the voice of Kickback from gen. 1 Transformers), but here, he's now voiced by Ian McDiarmid, even though Revill is still credited in this film. McDiarmid re-recorded Revill's lines from the original release for the Special Edition for the sake of continuity with the next film, while the former change was made to maintain continuity with the Prequels, though when Episode III came out, the scene where Vader contacts the Emperor was changed again, making it a bit longer by adding a couple more lines. Also, Cloud City was originally more claustrophobic, and George Lucas most likely wasn't satisfied with it, so they added digital windows for the interior shots and even expanded one shot during the scene when Lando, Leia, Chewie, Threepio, and Artoo are chasing after Boba Fett. Nice touch, really, but that's just one of many minor changes. Boba and the Emperor are the only two parts of the film with the biggest changes. The Wampa cave scene was originally given the Jaws effect in that you don't really see much of the creature, but for the Special Edition, they filmed new shots of it eating its food, reacting to Luke trying to escape, and thriving in pain after its arm gets sliced off. They had a different costume planned for it, but it looked terrible while they were filming a deleted scene that was supposed to happen during the escape from Echo Base, so they just decided not to show it after that embarrassment. A new suit was made, and it looks much better. It almost looks like the puppet that you saw. Edit: Also, Mark Hamill was in a car accident at the time of filming Episode IV, so that's why his face looks a bit different. You'll wanna look up the whole story for more details. Edit: 10:28 to 10:37 - More like she was just proving her point, and Luke was just sitting there thinking, "She's got him there." 2nd edit: You mistook James Earl Jones for Laurence Fishburne? Wow. I never imagined anybody would think that was Cowboy Curtis voicing Vader. 3rd edit: The Ion Cannon disabled the approaching Star Destroyer. 4th edit: I like how you were speechless during Vader and the Emperor's coversation!

    THX 1138 is a good movie. It is incredible how subjects treated by people from the sixties can resonate with how we may imagine a nowadays dystopian near future. It is depressing. It is hard to believe that was made from same people who did Star Wars. But when you think about it, a little bit, you can see the continuity,. THX 1138 visuals are great. In Star Wars, there is an evil empire dominating the galaxy, using a Death star. So, it has a dark side, too.

  • @BrianKoppe
    @BrianKoppe 3 години тому

    Old film movies aren't pixely because movie film is actually a better resolution (effectively) than the digital resolutions we have today. It's not a perfect comparison because film is chemical and doesn't have pixels at all, but 35mm film (what Star Wars was filmed on) is the rough equivalent of 5k. That's why restorations of old movies can look amazing on high resolution screens while early digital films will never look better than they did when they were made.

    I actually really like that you watched them in chronological order. I think I as a kid saw Doom first, just because of the practicality of myself being not a baby when DOOM aired on HBO free preview weekends, so I never had the endless comparisons to Willie not being as brave or kickass of a girl as Marion which most people complain about. This remedy's that problem, so that Indy upgrades to a girl who's more his style. Kate is great comic relief when she's not just in comparison to someone else.

    When Vincent was negoating the fee with Beetroot, he was talking about thousands, Beetroot about millions. Vincent needed $20 000 to cover his debt and only wanted to make sure this delivery would cover that. He didn't realize it was a deal that could make him a millionare. Hence the "I'm speechless" reaction when the magnitude was spelled out loud.

    Andre the Giant was a famous wrestler. By all accounts, he was an extremely nice guy. He died not long after this movie came out, or it may have been just before. 😥 The Princess Bride is actually a book too, I read it not long before the movie came out. It's really good, and has quite a few details the movie didn't use, but because the author wrote the screenplay, the movie is not lacking at all.💙

The lead of the movie, Brandon Lee (Bruce Lee's son) was accidentally killed making the movie. To get the full backstory, I recommend going to the channel "Well, I Never...Stars" who do an excellent video on the accident and the details that make it especially tragic. And also, after the movie, looking up Brandon Lee's last interview. I've seen it countless times, and it still gives me chills and makes me cry. Which the movie also does.💙

    Coby, you asked where they shot the forest scenes. George Lucas eventually moved up to Marin County north of SF & bought a ton of land on which to build his own ILM studio. It's called Skywalker Ranch. Has a lot of forestry. So that was what made up Endor. The desert scenes were shot in California too, just the SE part (the closest city would've actually been Yuma, AZ). Made it easier for him to move around & supervise as opposed to going overseas for the 1st 2 films.

    Coby, as someone who has been around the proverbial block, it's easy to see if someone is genuine and real vs. someone who isn't. And even though you are in a profession (acting) that is notorious for phoniness and duplicity, AND living in the mecca of the entertainment capital of the world (Los Angeles/Hollywood), you come across as a VERY down-to-earth person with genuine emotions. And that vocational/personality dichotomy that you possess makes you VERY endearing, which makes you even more attractive than you already are.

    I'm here to address the changes that were made to the Original Trilogy for the Special Edition and subsequent home media releases. Apologies in advance for the lengthy comments when talking about these, but they must be explained. First and foremost, Jabba in the hangar. That scene was NOT in the original release. It's not because it wasn't filmed. They DID shoot the scene, but they weren't sure at the time what Jabba was gonna look like. Some ideas were tossed around, but the scene was ultimately cut. When CGI became a thing, they went back to the scene and digitally inserted Jabba (this was 14 years after Return of the Jedi, so they went based off of that design), but it looked REPULSIVE. Like, THAT'S the best they could do with the technology they had in the '90s? Come on! The stampede scene in The Lion King looked way better, and that movie was released in 1994! For the 2004 DVD release, they went back to that scene again and tweaked Jabba's CG model, which is the one you saw. Thank God they did. Now, the most hated change in this particular film: Who Shot First? In the theatrical version, when Han is confronted by Greedo, he's the only one who pulls the trigger despite the fact that Greedo had HIS blaster out. To George Lucas, it made Han look like a cold-blooded killer, so he had his team change that part and make it so Greedo shoots first, but misses, and Han still fries him. George later explained in an interview that he wanted to make it clear to younger audiences watching that Han had no choice but to shoot Greedo. In the DVD release, a few frames were cut to make it look like both characters almost fired at the same time, and more frames were cut in the Blu-ray release so they both virtually fire at the same time, but Greedo still misses. And in the most recent change for that scene when the whole saga was being added to Disney+, Greedo utters one last word before the shootout: "Maclunckey.", which translates to, "This will be the end of you." You see where I'm going with this? That scene alone has been altered the most amount of times with each release. This change is what got people upset. Now, in the scene where Old Ben frightens away the Tusken Raiders, in the original version, he was imitating the call of the Krayt Dragon, which the Sand People are apparently afraid of. In the DVD release, it was changed to a ghostly wail, which made sense to me, since they're in a desert. But they changed it once more in the Blu-ray release to a noise that makes no frickin' sense! It's almost as if someone drunkenly mixed a bunch'a different loud sounds together! They could've just changed it back to the Krayt Dragon call, but nope! It's cringe-inducing! What were they thinking?! Those are just the major changes. Now, the minor things. First of all, the scene where Luke is reunited with his old friend Biggs Darklighter. The scene was filmed, but cut from the theatrical version for pacing reasons, but when the Special Edition came out, the scene was added back in. Second, the writing on the tractor beam controls was changed from English (or Basic (which is the Star Wars universe's equivalent of English)) to an alien language. Some say it's a retcon, but I dunno. Third, some frames from when Luke and Han shoot the Imperial Officers on the Death Star were cut out. One word sums up this change: Censorship. Finally (this will be the last one that I mention), the climactic Battle of Yavin. The shots of the X-Wings approaching the Death Star were re-done with computers, and it looks frickin' badass! You can even still see some of the original models they used when they first filmed the scene, so it wasn't entirely done with CG. A nice little touch, if you ask me. Well, that's all I got for you on this film. Also, C-3PO can understand any language, as you learned. He's a Protocol droid. R2-D2 is an Astromech, and as such, he speaks in Binary (beeps and whistles and such), and since Threepio is fluent in over six million forms of communication, he can understand exactly what he's saying, and is able to translate for those who can't, like Luke (at least in this film). As for the Astromech with the bad motivator, I have a feeling he's destined for something greater. Also, rest in peace, Sir Alec Guinness (Old Ben Kenobi), Peter Cushing (Tarkin), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Kenny Baker (the in-suit actor for R2-D2 (when certain scenes required him in the suit, that is, otherwise, the crew controlled Artoo remotely)), David Prowse (the original suit actor for Darth Vader), Drewe Henley (Red Leader), Angus MacInnes (Gold Leader), John Wayne, and other actors seen only in this trilogy who have died (and I mean the actors who played the characters we see in these three films, such as the guy who gets Force Choked by Vader). Yes, I said John Wayne. He was in this film as the voice of the Imperial spy, Garindan. What they did was use archived recordings from his earlier films at the time and synthesized it to make it sound like an alien. Pretty cool, huh? Edit: The question you had about the Jedi being born that way... You'll get a few answers when you start the Prequel Trilogy, and you'll get more answers as you progress through the franchise. Speaking of which, I hope you get to check out the TV shows like The Clone Wars. 2nd edit: Leia literally watched her home planet get destroyed. She had plenty of time to grieve.

    Conan was a man of great mirth and great melancholy, a heavy drinker, a carouser. he was not a white knight.

    girl, you don't know. i fell in love with Conan reading the paperbacks. i'm 50 now, and he is still my favorite fictional character, it is my favorite fictional world. REH was a troubled, lonely man, and i dig his creations. you said you like LOTR. REH was a dark soul, yearning to break free from his rural, overly-mothered home. he was crazy smart and read everything he got his hands on, studied the oil roughnecks and cowboys, tough guys of Texas he grew up around. his world is stark, bare, unforgiving, no room for lies. no idealism.

    You asked if you're a fan? You're watching a behind the scenes making-of documentary before watching the rest of the movies. Yeah, I think that qualifies you. And you asked a couple of times about why George Lucas wouldn't have wanted to direct the next two movies. It wasn't so much didn't want to. It was more of didn't have the bandwidth. Advancing filmmaking technology was about as much of a passion as just his movies. So with him starting all of those companies like Industrial Light and Magic and Lucasfilm, etc. he was going to have to be really involved and hands-on there and realized he wouldn't have the time for the daily task of directing too. And a lot of people could direct a film, whereas achieving the specific vision of the look and the effects needed his particular involvement.

    I usually don't write negative things on net. But this is probably the worst and annoying review I've EVER watched my entire life, not for just "Aliens". Your constantly breathing and inhaling sounds are so annoying and please try to make comments rather than gasping through all the movie, next time. Because this is not appealing even for ASMR lovers, too I bet. Thanks!
