It's hard to believe Eddie Murphy was only 22 when this came out. He's so natural and comfortable on camera. This is such a fun movie.
I never did the math on that. It never occurred to me how young he was making 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cop, and this. That raises my estimation of him even more now.
He was famous already by this time. Also, it's a talent he developed as a child as far as I remember.
And how young he was on SNL.
Should check out his comedy on Saturday Live Night, especially Mr Robinson's nieghborhood which is a take off from PBS Mr Roger's Neighborhood.

Watch it every Christmas. One of the funniest films ever… and remember “it was the Dukes, it was the Dukes”.
That is funny, but the thing that can make me giggle just thinking about it is Mortimer's reaction to Randolph's heart attack. I have cried laughing at seeing it a few times.

Any movie with Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy has to be great! This is a hysterically funny movie with a million laughs a minute. It holds your interest and never relents. Top notch! Happy New Year Jen!
Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy were both SNL cast members. The cop in glasses a 12:45 is Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda, Grover, Miss Piggy, Cookie Monster, Bert, Fozzie Bear, Animal, and Sam Eagle on The Muppets.
He also directed Dark Crystal and Little Shop of Horrors which you must react to as well.
One of those guys at 28:24 is Al Franken former SNL cast member and US senator.

Jen! Great reaction, and thank you for an edit that includes the setup for a joke and ALSO the payoff! For example, the scene where Valentine breaks the vase and asks if they want him to break something else. The payoff, the 3 men saying, "No!" in unison, is comedy gold, and so many reactors cut that line out. Remember, most of us have already seen the movie, and the punch lines are what we're waiting for. You can't cut iconic scenes or only include random lines from the movie with zero context. Keep up the good work!
You know, I have to agree that some reaction channels do a less than adequate job in their editing. Missing punch lines and rolling through or completely cutting iconic scenes defeats the purpose of watching someone else's reaction. Gets really disappointing.

Well, that's Jim Belushi, John's younger brother, and one of the "two eighties guys [you] should know" is former United States Senator Al Franken (the other is his then-SNL partner, Tom Davis). The cop with the glasses that plants the PCP is Muppets creator Frank Oz, and the pawn shop owner is blues legend Bo Diddley! Lots of great people in this film!

Also shout outs to Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy as well, as the brothers. They were consummate professionals and well established veterans by this time, but both had something of a late career renaissance. Also the wonderful Denholm Elliot, who also had a sizeable film career (you probably know him as Dr. Marcus Brody in the Indiana Jones films).
Dan, Jamie and Eddie, all three at the top of their games here, and really brought what would have been an average script to the next level. Beverly Hills Cop and 48hrs round out Eddies best three films from this period, and are worth the watch anytime of year, as these movies are all comedy gold.

Short selling of stock shares (As I understand it):
Louis and Billy Ray first had to borrow shares of the commodity (Frozen OJ). They had to return the shares at an agreed-upon time.
They sold all their shares at a high price ($142), then waited for the price to drop.
Once the price dropped, they bought as many shares as they could.
They then returned the shares that they borrowed, but at the final price ($29)
They made a fortune!

Good reaction Jen. The gratuitous scene you mentioned was one of the most famous and anticipated ones of the decade. In all the horror movies Jamie Leigh was in early in her career, she never had a topless scene. This was her first. It even got a mention in the first Scream movie.
For Eddie, you have to watch Coming to America. Trust me, you will laugh your butt off. For Dan, his best movies are this, Ghostbusters, and The Blues Brothers. For both, they made their name on SNL. You might try some Best of… videos for each of them to really get a feel for them.
A Jamie Leigh you might enjoy is A Fish Called Wanda. Some love it, some don't. But you'll have to watch to decide.
Finally, I highly recommend you watch Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I know you will love it. It is right up your alley. Have a Happy New Year Jennypenny.

A Sherlock Holmes comedy with Michael Caine. It's not without its flaws, but fans of Caine and Holmes usually enjoy it.

As great as the leads are... Seems that no one ever singles out Denholm Eliot as Coleman whose fantastic... He was also Marcus Brody in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade... I just want to see someone shout out his wonderful work here.

Hi, Jen, really looking forward to your reaction to this funny movie. Dan Aykroyd is my favorite from the original SNL cast. This is your second movie in a row featuring a US senator. Al Franken plays a goofy baggage handler, along with his writing partner Tom Davis. They wrote on SNL from day 1.
An absolute classic, the 80s was Eddie Murphy at his prime and he had so many great movies during that time like Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America and 48 hours which was his first movie.
48 Hours (and its sequel) is INCREDIBLE!!! 🤘😎🤘

Jen, pork bellies are a real thing. In the US, they are the cut of the pig that bacon, among other things, comes from . American bacon, that is. The Canadian variety comes from pork loins.
TBH most of eat regular bacon on a day to day basis. I can't remember the last time I had back bacon, which is what it is called here. Restaurants will sometimes have it in lieu of or in addition to ham.
I love this movie. Another Eddie movie to see is called (Bowfinger) Thats also got Steve Martin starring. . Probably my favorite movie with Eddie.

I work in the "Duke and Duke" building! They've maintained the boardroom as it was in the film. It's quite the tourist draw for those who know about it!

Jen, First off, I hope you have at least 75K subscribers by next June. You're almost there. The butler (Denholm Elliott) was also Marcus Brody in the Indiana Jones movies, for what that's worth. Don Ameche as Mortimer was not the kind of guy to use foul language. Before he let loose with an F bomb, he apologized to the cast and crew. He also told the Director, he would only do ONE take, so they better get it right. And they did. I think there's another Beverly Hills Cop movie coming. I hope you have a safe and healthy 2024. That wasn't John Belushi in the gorilla costume on the Amtrak train, it was his brother JIM BELUSHI. John was already deceased when this movie came out.
I grew up at just the right time: starting with “Jaws” in 1975 at age ten. I got to see all of these iconic 70’s and 80’s flicks when they came out.
Eddie Murphy also did “48 Hours” and “Another 48 Hours.” He also did “The Golden Child.”
Dan Ackroyd did “Spies Like Us,” and “Evolution.”

Denholm Elliott is one of my favourite actors. He mostly plays a supporting roles but almost always steals the scenes that he is in, leading to one actor saying "Never work with children, dogs or Denholm Eliiott". He won the BAFTA supporting actors award for his role in this film, a feat that he would repeat for the next 2 years with roles in A Private Function & Defense of the Realm. He was also nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actor in A Room With A View.

And yes...Pork Bellies is one of the main commodities traded on the Commodities Exchange (in the Commodities Exchange, commodities such as Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Metals such as Gold, Silver, Platinum etc, Sugar, Corn, Coffee, Orange, and many others are traded). Btw, Pork Bellies is what BACON is made from...lol. So, yep...Pork Bellies alone are a widely traded item on the exchange. The prices for commodities on Commodities Exchanges are what ultimately determine the prices that consumers pay for those products (or derivatives of those products) at Supermarkets. And the direction of prices of the commodities on the Exchanges, helps economists forecast inflationary forces. Also, this isn't the stock market...but believe it or not, the type of trading that you see on the floor of this commodities exchange, was pretty much still done the SAME way up until just a few years ago....and some exchanges still utilize this method (not all..some). Also, the NYSE on Wall Street NYC that deals in Stocks and Bonds, still operates this way to a certain extent. Yes, the floor traders and brokers on the floor of the NY Stock Exchange (NYSE) are surrounded by computers to take orders etc, but to a certain extent trades are also still done in the old fashioned way. The 'internet' doesn't really come into play on this end. The internet trading is what investors (just regular people and institutional investors) may use when trading their accounts. But on the back end, on the actual floor of the exchanges, it more-so resembles what is depicted in this movie...although today the floor traders take and give orders via their terminals.

Wonderful reaction, Jen! The first ever reaction I ever saw of this movie. Here in Italy, "Trading Places" has become the most traditional and beloved Christmas movie. It is broadcast on TV every Christmas Eve at least for the last twenty years, and every year it highly followed.

For me, this has always been a Christmas movie. Maybe it’s the time of the year it takes place and some of the architecture in the movie, but it always gave me that vibe.
A very much simplified explanation of how Lewis and Billy became rich:
The commodities market is buying and selling "futures". A "future" is a contract to buy or sell a product at a certain price at a set point in the future, regardless of the market value of the product at that time. Our boys contracted to sell large quantities of orange juice in the future at $146, then they bought those shares at $29.
“Spies like us” is a great Dan Aykroid/ Chevy Chase movie Definitely one of my faves.

❤❤❤ Okay, Jen. Buddy cop Dan with Tom Hanks, DRAGNET. Based in a way on the TV series. Dan is the straight-laced guy, and Tom is the live wire. Eddie in a fantasy detective thing? THE GOLDEN CHILD. Lots of choices. Happy New Year

Eddie has 2 stand-up films that I'm aware of, an HBO special "Delirious" and a theatrical release "Raw", both are hilarious.
Dan Akroyd, besides his movies, is best known as a writer and performer on the original Saturday Night Live. His take on the old classic cop drama from the '60's "Dragnet" (also starring Tom Hanks) is an underrated gem.
Of course if you're looking for movies you've actually heard of I would recommend "Coming to America" and "The Blues Brothers"
I don't think that Jen recognized the butler, Coleman. It was Denholm Elliott who was most famously Marcus Brody in both "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade" (Dan Aykroyd himself had a cameo in "Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom").
The short baggage handler is Al Franken, longtime writer and sometime actor on SNL, author of several political humor books, and former United States Senator.
The two Baggage Handlers with the Monkey are Tom Davis & Al Franken they were both Actors & Writers on Saturday Night Live during dan`s time on the show.....

Eddie Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop 2 was a great sequel!
Also, not sure you noticed but the cop who books Dan Aykroyd is played by Frank Oz, the voice of Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Yoda... This film is directed by John Landis and he gives Frank Oz small parts in a lot of his movies. At least 6.
One of the train maintenance men was played by Al Franken. He wrote for SNL for years and played a few reoccurring characters. He was the a Senator for 9 years, until some defamation drove him from office.
Fun Fact the PCP officer is Frank Oz the puppeteer behind Fozzie Bear Miss Piggy and Yoda and a director as well, the American Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
The two 80s guys you mentioned that were on the train were actually Franken and Davis. They were writers on SNL. Al Franken later on went into politics.

That was Jim Belushi, John's brother. He's had a good career. See him in Taking Care of Business (comedy).
Eddie Murphy's standup is the best standup which has ever been done, period. Both Delirious and Raw are outstanding and still my favorites.
The "suicide" scene is the part that always gets me, where he can't even get the gun to work in his favour! It jams when he tries to shoot himself, but it goes off as soon as he throws it away!
