Motown used six horns - two trumpets, two trombones, a tenor sax, and a baritone sax. On this song, the tenor sax solo is played by Hank Cosby. The high guitar part is played by Eddie Willis, and the low guitar part doubling the bassline is Joe Messina. James Jamerson plays the bassline. Motown used a homemade speaker that all guitars (including the bass) played through, and on recordings that used an electric piano (such as Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", played by Johnny Griffith) or a clavinet (such as Stevie Wonder's "You Met Your Match", played by Stevie Wonder himself), that instrument would also play through Motown's homemade speaker, there were no separate amps. The drummer is Uriel Jones, congas are played by Eddie "Bongo" Brown, Johnny Griffith on keys, and Paul Riser on the string and horn arrangements. The Temptations lead singer at the time was David Ruffin.
Thanks!!!!❤
I just had to read this again it is so packed full of awesomeness!
Yes! When I was on tour with Gladys Knight- she took the band into hitsville and for 2 hours told us incredible stories!
Would love to hear Acapella to since I lost my baby
The bass at Motown was always plugged into a DI box, never ran thru an amp. A bass amp was only used at live gigs.
Amazing!
You are! THANKS!!!
The classic 5 Temptations (Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, Otis Williams, and David Ruffin) along with The Funk Brothers. Doesn’t get any better than that.

Amazing video guys ! I love this song and hearing each sections solo is simply great and show the amount of work on this song.
Do you have access to multi-tracks thanks to your studio work or is it available online in some dark hidden website ? :)
Thank you so very much! There’s plenty more on the channel. Hope you enjoy it! We get the tracks from all different sources, both web-based and otherwise.❤

You’re forgiven for not knowing there were strings on there. They are buried (maybe even omitted) on many of the early mixes. The version on the “Lost And Found” CD has the “full strings” mix
Thanks! We will check that out!!!
