Ed Sullivan brought the cream of the crop to everyone’s TV’s.
Literally, from around the world.
It was where you saw live bands
Sunday nights... Wild Kingdom, Disney, and Ed Sullivan.
Yeah he gets mocked a lot but he really did.
From Eddie Kendrick’s falsetto to Melvin Franklin’s bass, the Temps had us all singin’ and struttin’ along. Loved the instant replay on David Ruffin’s spin and splits… he was a baaaad man
Thanks so much for playing some of the best of Motown. I grew up with the Beatles, CCR, Aretha, and Marvin Gaye. Many of your younger viewers missed out on the great R&B and Soul music of the 60s and 70s. Please play more.
Billy Preston, Al Green, Edwin Starr... So much range!!
@@Greg-io1ip Al Green's voice still makes this 70 year old girl weak in the knees!
Whoo, I didn’t expect David to drop it like that!
I was a teen at this time, and all my girlfriends and I gathered at one of our homes every Sunday night for Ed. We saw all the greats there, 4 Tops, Tempts, Supremes, Beatles, Stones and more! It was always a celebration every time. Thanks to all the parents who put up with us! Great memories!
Love it! I’m 75 so I grew up with Motown. I do not believe there will ever be another record company with the talent they had. And I’m talking about everyone from the song writers, musicians, producers. Barry Gordy built a empire.
I grew up on all Motown and Rock n Roll...I'm 68, still my faves are Motown!!!! CLASSIC👍👍👍😍😍😍
Those were they days when we had a common culture and EVERYONE knew who the Temptations were.
Thank you for mixing in these older classics with newer songs and artists. Love the variety! And the Temptations are god-tier ...those voices!
Thank you for always rocking with us my friend!!
@@AirplayBeats the pleasure is mine gentlemen!
Even Temptations toning it down so Pedo SINatra's depressing suicidal fart sounds controlling the media then, even this 'elevator music' version by Temptations flushes Sinatra's serial rapist noises. Mob didn't want anyone outshining Mob Punk Francis, so Ed Sullivan got bands on doing PG Sunday Sermon versions. Just enough people found out Sinatra Sucked.
There used to be such great music on TV back in the day! The variety shows had so much good music…I miss it!
Love the Temptations.
NOW THIS WAS MUSIC AND SHOWMANSHIP Y'ALL!!!
THEY DON'T EVEN NEED TO SING. I COULD WATCH THOSE SMOOTH MOVES ALL DAY LONG!
Great memories! Ed Sullivan had everything! He knew talent and brought the best to us every week.
Brings back so many childhood memories! I just blew out my ACL watching David do that split! LOL Thanks for this one
🙏😊
I love this stuff! The Stylistics, The Chi-Lites, The O' Jays, The Dramatics...just to name a few. More!
Seeing Questlove’s Oscar winning doc Summer Of Soul I was FLOORED by David Ruffin’s performance.. WOW
My Girl-a perfect song.
I mean, come on! This is one of the best things about being this old, we got to grow up watching and hearing this amazing music
My first concert, when I was 14, was The Motown Review. Temptations were my favorite Motown group. Saw them 4 times.
Everybody sleeps on Blue's footwork.
I'm 67 yrs. old, and in the 1960s, The Ed Sullivan Show was the tv show all of America watched, every Sunday night at 8pm. It was a "Variety" show, where there was something for every age group, and interest in the family. Jugglers from Sweden, Chinese acrobats, Movie stars and comedians and yes, for the younger generation the latest Rock stars or Rock Band that was hot. This included all of the big "Motown stars. Black, white or Brown, the next day at work, or school everybody would always ask, "Hey, did you see The Rolling Stones last night on Ed Sullivan? or did you see Richard Pryor on The Ed Sullivan Show?" If you were invited to be on his show, you had made it, and usually your career took off, staring the very next day.
Thanks guys.
Temptations.. Runaway child running wild... PLEASE!!!!❤❤❤❤ The whole 9.30 minute version!
Saw the musical on Broadway, NYC…called “Ain’t Too Proud “ The story of their career and music!! PHENOMENAL!❤️
My favorite Motown group. Class personafied which is sadly missing today. Love the Temptation shuffle
The Ed Sullivan show was the highlight of TV in my youth. You could depend on Ed to bring the big names and artists for us 'youngsters. My four brothers and I loved British bands and The Temptations. Rock 'n Soul is the best. These guys had such melodic rhythm and a beautiful sound. Who doesn't sing along with My Girl ? ❤
Thank you fellas for that! Im a sixties kid from detroit, and that was comfort for my soul!
As the old folks from that era use to say, "they put their FOOT in that one." ❤😂❤
They sure did!!
These guys were just smoooth! The music of my youth it never gets old! Great reaction! ❤❤❤
Smooth, classy, and clean entertainment. What a time.
I was in the Army in the early 80's when the movie "The Big Chill" came out. That sound track turned me onto all this older Motown music. I was probably the only 18yr old in '83 cranking the Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin, etc, etc instead of Iron Maiden and Twisted Sister. Lol! Talk about rabbit holes. So glad I found all that great music.
I was born n Detroit. My parents saw so many Motown groups live in 50-60's!!! I was born in Motown-RAISED ON R&R!!!!
Awesome absolutely amazing
The Ed Sullivan Show was so ahead of it's time, must have been a real treat for the kids. Growing up in the 70's, the radio was the king but Soul Train was so influential to a lot of us. Saturday late morning, couldn't wait! Lol
No he wasn't ahead of his time. It was perfect timing Ed was right in time. THIS IS television and musical history gelled together.
You can't see that???
Yes.
Loved the Temptations when I was a kid. The Supremes too.
"Temptation walk". Paul.. Choreographer❤❤❤❤
That was incredible but I'm sorry, my knees are still hurting from that crazy ass split he did. And of course you replayed it. Double Ouch! Wow what a performance!! Just imagine back then being glued to a small TV with bad reception, (if pops let's you watch it), and in 3 mins it's over. Never to be seen again for 50 years. Thank God they were preserved! And thank you guys for playing it. ✌🏼
Love the Temps. So many great songs. My favorite singer by them is David Ruffin. I recommend anything by him next. Also, I highly, highly recommend reacting to another group that performed on the Ed Sullivan Show. And that is The Young Rascals. I recommend Been Lonely Too Long by them on the Ed Sullivan Show. You’ll see why they were considered a great live act. Plus you will see why their drummer Dino Danelli is considered one of the greatest drummers of all time by other drummers.
Thanks for playing this! It was so much fun......oh, those were the days!
The Best Band from Motown. Here is the Classic Ruffin Period.
As a kid in the 60s I remember watching the Ed Sullivan show at my grandparents house every week. It was a family ritual. I'm sure I saw this at the time. Always loved The Temptations!
The Temps were awesome. WRAP radio was solid soul, but soul was played on the pop & rock stations, too. It was a glorious time for music.
The classic's always get things move'in ..
I was born in '62, and have always loved the Temptations! I'm a hard rock lover by choice, but the Temps, and MoTown in general, just hit that groove for me.
and yes, I do remember the Ed Sullivan show! For whatcsome might classify as a boring white man, he really knew his music!
The epitome of smoooth!! I was so lucky to grow up with this music.
Love Eddie and love the Temps. Y’all should do Rare Earths version of I’m Losing You. It’s pretty awesome
Back when music and dancing were intertwined. Love this!
I had all these songs on 45s. Love them.
A group RARE EARTH covered them!!!
Temptations: Easily Top 10 best band all genre ever. They could do it all. James Jamerson and Motown studio musicians behind the scenes are not forgotten!!!
Eddie Kendricks one of the best high voice singers
Eddie had an excellent solo career with some great songs like: Can I and Girl You Need a Change of Mind.
@@324cmac and keep on truckin
@@Caseydog3 That was his big hit. But I didn't think it showcased his voice like some of the others.
Temps the best that ever did it
Love the Temptations
I think I just hurt myself watching David doing that split. Applying ice now. The Temps were just the best. God, I miss these times. Thanks for reacting to this clip La & Che. 🔥
What other superlatives can one add to the Temptations? The Ed Sullivan show made Sunday night TV! Thanks for the memories, guys!
Have y'all seen "Standing in the Shadows of Motown"? It's a documentary on the Funk Brothers, the Motown house band. Excellent film, well worth your time. All those songs you know by heart.
Effing Fire...I just wish someone Would recreate this music again.
Silk Sonic did pretty well bringing back a modern version of it.
@@324cmac yes they did...and it was my favorite record of the year. It needed to spread though. Take hold and become a sensation again. I'm just greedy and want it all in life. Hahhahahaha, is that too much to ask? 😊😊😊
@@michaelakkerman407 There aren't that many entertainers as talented as Bruno Mars who has an extensive knowledge of music history.
@@324cmac thats true. Too bad there were tons in the 60's and 70's.
Upremes/Temptations medley. Ed Sullivan
You should watch the live Ed Sullivan performance with The Supremes and The Temptations where David Ruffin shows Diana Ross exactly how much he can out-sing her even when she has Berry Gordy change the song to her key. It's beautiful.
Ed Sullivan, an icon of American culture! As a kid, I saw the Beatles in their first performance on the Sullivan show. We literally watched America change on TV.
Papa Was A Rollin Stone
thank you for this....they were the best at what they did, gold standard!!...please do....papa was a rolling stone.....an absolute masterpiece..........
Fantastic. Got to play the whole song I’m Losing You!
I saw The Temptations with my parents about 20 years ago, sadly by then there was only one surviving member still in the band. Was a great night, I love Motown music! (got to see Smokey Robinson in the same theater later on that year too).
And that was the least talented member.
I saw them 2 days before David was found dead. Broke my heart
Wikipedia lists 23 past members in this band thru the course of history. David Ruffin replaced an original, Eldridge "Al" Bryant and the rest is history. I always beleived Ruffin was the most talented and had the best tone of all the Temptations (Also, an EXTRAORDINARY dancer). I am 66 years old now and look back fondly while growing up with this iconic band.
"for the youngsters" classic comment.
(I Know) I'm Losing You
Rod Stewart recorded a version in 1971 that was featured on his breakthrough album Every Picture Tells A Story. The single reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100, credited as Rod Stewart With Faces and #13 in Canada. Stewart had previously performed the song with the Jeff Beck Group; live performances were recorded for BBC radio broadcast on the Saturday Club March 7, 1967. Wikipedia.
The Tempin Temptations
What great memories. Ed Sullivan was every Sunday night at my grandma's house. Always fun.
God I love David Ruffins voice
As good as it was when I saw it that night on Ed Sullivan 🎉
The Temps were top tier performer's that will never be beat in this century and beyond.
I wish we all was still there. So so good.
they make it look so easy. in the summer of souls doc, gladys knight discusses the intense practice. it's a must see.
Those guys can bring it.
Aw man takin' me back. They were so incredible.
Simply the best!!!
Ace lineup!!!
What’s cool is Letterman saved the theater for his program and now the Colbert show’s using it!!
Sullivan had soooo many acts!!
Wow! You can tell these gents put in the work! That knee split was inane. My 64 yo knees long for those days again. I remember watching this with my cousins when we were kids, trying to catch this moves! Excellent show Ed Sullivan ❤
That was phenomenal, soulful and joyful. They're just the cream of the crop, icons of icons. David Ruffin's voice and performance, just wow. Thanks for this, put a smile on my face.
This is pure gold!!!!
Paul and Blue had ALL the moves.💙🩵
I was a teen in the ‘60’s!! Loved all the mo-town performers!!
Motown music was full of it ... full of supreme talent, that is. So many good songs. The groups brought it with their great vocals, melodies and dance moves. And The Temptations were the cream of the crop.
What a time to be a kid / teen .
What great memories 💕
Sunday Night❤
The Temptations are hardcore badasses!❤
Music with Swag! ❤
The Temptations. Forever Motown✨️
Got me smiling ear to ear😁👍🏼Ed Sullivan introduced us to a variety of different entertainers, especially in Music. Amazing who all became famous by being on his show.
The Doors on Ed Sullivan! Legendary!
My Girl❤️❤️❤️
We used to congregate in the halls at school, lunch time and do long lines of us doing the temptation walk to their songs. This was great and brought back fabulous memories.
David looked like John Travolta with those dance moves! I can see where John got his influence.
Damn! I love them.
They just do not have that talent today! i mean Talent!
The Temptations - so much talent, so much soul...Legendary Icons with music that will never die. You don't see magic like this anymore.
That was fantastic!! Thank You.🏆🏆🏆
They did the show live in those days, and if you screwed up, nothing could be done because it was live. I loved to hear these acts do their songs live. Unlike today, what you see is what you get, and in those days, it was usually really good.
Thanks guys.
Thank you guys. This is PERFECTION
They had to kick the tempo up due to time constraints . . . . . live TV, ya know.
Great choice!
R.I.P. Dave Ruffin
