Ed Sullivan recognized talent and it didn’t matter the race. He paid for Bill Bogangles Robinson’s funeral because he was broke. Bill Robinson was an amazing tap dancer.
Don’t Send Me Away was a song that Otis was the lead.
There isn't anyone who can sing like the ones we had back then. All pure talent.
.... Dennis/Paul....grown man voices
Dennis and Paul are baritones. They have unique voices
Great reaction! Aint nobody like the Temptations. Otis has sung quite a few leads. Here are some: Don't send me away, I ain't got nothin', Read between the lines, Darling stand by me, For your love, (The Distants) Open your heart, Dreammaker, I see my child, The christmas song
You have to hear "I AIN'T GOT Nothing" HE and Richard street co - lead, Otis is all through the song
Don't send me away, early Temptations song in which Otis sang lead.He sang it quite well.
You are not wrong. I grew up listening to the Temptations and love David Ruffin, and especially Eddie, but when I moved into the Housing Projects Dennis became the voice of the Temptations for years and years. There is only one Dennis Edward. RIP Temptations.
Don't send me away... Otis Williams does lead vocal
That sound is the church sound. You can still here it the church.
Johnny Gill sings like Dennis & Paul.
Need to check out the full version from the cloud 9 album 1969
9plus minutes of absolute psychedelic funk
Johnny Gill has one of those voices
Otis founded the Temptations
don’t send me away- the temptations. otis sings lead on it
MAJ, there is such a modern mainstream vocalist...JAHEIM. Check him out.
Ed Sullivan had the most popular variety show; on Sundays. All black folk around the country used to look for the weekly TV schedule to see what black act Ed Sullivan would have on his show this week. He always showcased black act when their were not many on TV. Yes, I am 70 years old.
Otis Williams: Lead on "Don't Send Me Away" (in the mid 60's). There were another 2 for which i cannot remember off the top of my head but they were produced and written by him in the 80's.
Thank You, I’ve been trying to find a song that Otis Williams led for years
Ed started putting them on bc they were popular but came to like them. That even included Elvis who everyone said was corrupting the youth. The Temps and 4 Tops were the bomb. They all were great in concert.
Thank you for informing me, like I stated in the video I know absolutely nothing about the Ed Sullivan Show
If you were on Ed Sullivan's show you have made it as a old folks say you have arrived 😉 especially the black singers...yes the mics were hanging above them.
You are correct NO ONE sounds like Paul Williams and Dennis Edward anymore and they all use the ear plugs to stay on key. Listen to "You Make Me So Very Happy" Otis begins that song and he sounds wonderful ❤ That's the only one though lol
I AINT GOT NOTHING OTIS LEAD
Yes. They HAD those mics back then. BUT, this is a lip-synch of the 45 (single) edit of this song. Usually, though, on the Ed Sullivan Show, artists performed live or, at least, pre-recorded the performance that day at the Ed Sullivan studio. I suspect that the decision was made to lip synch the record rather than lose the character of the song. As for the singing style, it was pure gospel-soul. The style has changed over the years....and not for the better, IMO. Even white artists, back in the day, sang with a more soulful attitude. For other examples of this style, see Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Solomon Burke and too many more to list.
You're very nice looking....
