- After a short season of spirited driving with the 6 liter LS engine the rear differential in our 1966 Buick Skylark decided to leave the chat! With some help from some great Quick Performance products we upgraded the rear differential to a bolt-in Ford 9 inch with limited slip and 3.25 gears. No, this one is NOT FOR SALE! As always, thanks for watching!

Leave those calipers alone!! Stop doing burnouts! They are dumb! You mess up your tires and that’s not your car!! Stop it.
Ha! Burnouts are good for the soul!
@@MortskeRepair and thy make your heart go fast and that's healthy, learn healthy science man gosh.
Why are you watching this channel 🤣
I'm going to tell your Dad what you're doing Mortske!!! 😝
Go do burnouts with your dad in the car.😄
Mortske should be at 1 million subs by now. We need to make his channel grow! Some of the best content on UA-cam and always an hour video! Love it 🇺🇸
I agree what can we do to make this channel grow
@@gerrygwilson2849 tell everyone and share it if you can. Just keep liking the videos. He puts out the best content. And who doesn't love duff dog?!
I remember watching Your Fathers Reaction when you first showed the Buick Skylark to him, The look on his face was priceless. It wasn't a look of anger or disappointment, he may have had some initial concern but once he had taken a drive, The smile he had was from ear to ear you can tell he is proud of you Mortske. As all way's thank you for your time and effort in putting these cars together cheers.
I wonder what his Dad did with that beautiful Buick motor he built? Ls swap on a classic Buick, sad
@@tomwinkle1597 Don’t see how that’s sad. It’ll keep that old Buick going long into the future when parts for the Buick engine are much harder to find
This is still my favourite car we've had on the channel so far, I love it. Great post Mort, thanks.
I wanted to commit again on how I appreciate the 'small business' segments from Studio D. It's the personal interest that keeps enthusiasts going and growing. Keep it up Duff! And don't let that other guy push you around.
Great to hear!
Morstke Law. 1 inch of spline engagement will work until it doesn't. If the factory one doesnt bottom out in the trans and will go all the way to the seal like you showed I always leave 5/8ths of an inch for play. 2 fingers seems like alot, when you say it like that though, no fingers seem best because I dont even want 1 finger.
Bahaha, right on!
Just wait 'till you turn 50.
The way that Skylark squats down on one corner during a one wheel peel reminds me of a dog taking a leak by a tree...🤣
Something like that!
All I can say is you have made that old Buick one fine car. I would love to drive something like this every day. People hate LS swaps but they give old vehicles new life totally worth it.
YOU SAID,, TRUE!!!
*insert huge eye roll @ Jeanie* seriously! Stay in your lane lady!
I loved the burn out & I’m sure your Dad would have a big smile seeing it!!! Came out great 👍🏻
Love the video!
❤Love to Duffers❤
Loved this one...
Plenty of Duff; plenty of engineering, plenty of humor-perfect balance. Thank you Mortske and Duff!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great upgrade! After all, you got Dads approval. 😊. Always my Monday morning start to a great day! Morske in the morning, and Puddin in the the evening! 🤣🤣🤣 My Mondays are always great like this! 😊😊😊😊
AGREED & THEY BOTH HAMMER ON EACH OTHER, LOL.
Great upgrade to the Buick. Can't beat a performance built 9 bolt rear-end. That's the sweetest ride Duff has been in, no mouse turds to sniff. By the way, that's a nice Ford wrecker you put in the garage earlier. Love the body style of those years.
Love how Duff likes being chauffeured in the Buick haha...seems like the only car he does that in. Car is looking good!
On this weeks "Well that's pretty neat" with Mortske! My vote for your awesome small business segment of the week. Thank you for everything you do buddy!
Glad you are doing something for your dad. Lost mine a few years ago and I miss those moments! Keep up the great content!
Oh hell yeah!!! It's another MULLET MORTSKE MONDAY!!!
Love that Buick, reminds me of my old neighbor that had one when I was a kid. He would ask me to help him with it and I really enjoyed spending time with him. He passed away 50 years ago sure left me with some fond memories. Thanks.
Good times!
Such a sweet ride... Duff says that it is so nice, he needs to be chauffeured around from the executive back seat! Looking forward to the next video where you complete this part of the project. Also, I have to throw some attaboys to Mojo... I hope he continues to get over being camera shy and shares his words of wisdom with us fans.
He's the man!
The old Ford tow truck is gorgeous. That’d be my Sunday go-to-meeting vehicle. 👍
I thot the same!
I appreciate a man that has that big of a gun safe.
You will have your hot rod wheel chair and Duff's front paws will work but will have one of those carts strapped to the rear legs! hahaha Dare to dream!!!!!! Duff will always be with you.
Good morning Mort, nice to see your dad's car again, few more upgrades, sweet. Really enjoy your program. Take care and stay warm. 👍
Mike and the guys at quick performance do good work. Nice upgrades on the rig. Thanks for helping to keep Buicks relevant. 👍
I have a 31 spline unit under my 68 LeMans, and a 28 spline one waiting to go under the 65 GTO. Nice stuff and decent price, got them to me fast too.
They sure do!
Think Buicks are awesome. Are replacement parts harder to come by?
Hey Mortske!! Good job on the swap...your Dad is lucky to have a son like you!! Y'all be safe!!
God Bless!!
Thanks Michael!
Your video comment segment should be called a “Mortske Minute”. A fun little theme song for an intro would be rad.
What I like is a fact that you explained everything you're working on as you go along and make it seem so simple. Looks like you made a great upgrade. Keep up the great work and the awesome videos 👍✌️🇺🇲
Will do!
Good episode! I like the format youve decided on. I hope to see more loose ends tied up( cough ramp truck cough)! Great job as always.
LS swap for father's day, sweet. Bulletproofing your dads car, priceless !
A great tribute to your dad and grandfather. Duff looks good in a Buick.
You can tell it now peels two wheels, "By the way that it is".
Exactly!
Best saying for 2023. We break things and we show yah.
Love itwatching the build videos. It's great watching a true mechanic work on old metal but it's awesome to see a craftsmen work on metal he cares about!!
Thanks 👍
Thanks again for another fine hour of entertainment and automotive fixing we all love! You and Duff rule on the UA-cam. Please keep it up........
Will do!
Your doing it Tight Duff Dog. Having a father when you get older is a True Blessing, my Father would have been 75 USMC, he went to Biker Heaven in 89- I’m still not the same Son, but each Day I still have memories of us wrenching, on his Hot Rod, he would get really mad when my mother would rub the white letters off herb72 Grand Prix SJ with air shocks and Mags!!🇺🇸🥃💥I was with them both the he night we drove it off the showroom Floor ! Bill Mc David Pontiac DFW TX Yellow & Tan top & interior, man when we went To Corpus to see grandma it was a Thrill , hold on to your ass son!🇺🇸😎
Pop is a Very Fortunate Man to have a Car as Such & I Guess Having a Son like you is not the Worst thing in the World, I imagine 🤣. That is a Sweet Old Ride. Appreciate you having us along I’ll catch you on the next one, Keep it Safe Out There Sir
Our pleasure David!
You have a good relationship with your father. That's worth its weight in gold. My dad was a country boy born in 1912 at home in northern Minnesota near Goodrich which is near thief River falls. We used to put clutches in studebakers etc. Together. Your dad's got a nice car there. I think you'll probably be borrowing it. Duff Seems to like it
Duff 's small automotive business spot light is a good name for the segment you did . Smiles 😃 from Canada 🇨🇦
Looks like Duff Dog approves of the ride laying back there, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Same to you Donald!
I have to admit I’ve got a soft spot for that Skylark! Dad has great taste! And the ol lacquer paint would look like a million bucks with a buff & polish!
Duff is the best!!!!!!!! He is a good boy.....give him an extra treat from plz.!
Mort love the old stuff reminds of growing up in the 60s 70s brings back a lot of memories I appreciate you brother
Fantastic work. Good to see you care about your father. He is a blessed Dad. And I really needed your humer today. Mad me laugh. Thanks. Keep up the great work
Glad to help!
Love to see your Dad’s reaction to the new rear end. Getting in and pinning it to the carpet 😄 I hope he gets to enjoy his car for many years to come. Great job Mortske. Very fun to watch you make it happen!
I hope so too!
Buick produced some lovely cars back in the day, pure quality too.
I wonder how many Buick folks from the US travel to Scotland to pay homage to their founder, David Dunbar Buick👍👍🏴
Never knew that!
I really enjoy your show and the great work you do. You are great entertainment and you and Duff are fun to learn from and watch. I think that Buick deserves a restore along with the added performance upgrades you have already added. What happened to the headliner above and behind your head? A opened can of beverage? The paint needs to be cleaned up, waxed and polished. Yes replace the radio with a factory looking face, but with a modern upgrade in speakers and stereo system behind the factory looking face. Tighten up the front and rear suspension with up graded coil springs on all 4 corners, stiffer shock's on all four wheel's. Upgrade front and rear sway bars to a much larger diameter sway bar. Air conditioner??? Hmmmm Depends on if you like it hot or not?? Definitely upgrade the head lights to newer and brighter light's..... I hope that you read this. I enjoy your work on the 50's and 60's sedans.
That is the perfect update for that car. The best thing about Monday is waking up and watching Mortske first thing. It's been my routine for at least a couple of years. Actually I think you're the first automotive channel I subscribed to. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and projects with us👍
Much appreciated Craig!
The Mortske Minute
Musing With Mortske
Dang! The bull gear jumped the heifer sprocket again hahaha. That is a mighty fine upgrade!! Keep the shiny side up mortske
I'll do my best!
Love this car AND that white tow rig! Great stuff Mortske! Tell Duff not to break this rear end lol.
I had a 67 GS when I turned 16 and burnouts were so much fun in front of the local pizza shop. So much rubber.
Thanks for letting us tag a long on the current adventure you did pops a good deed I'm sure his paps approved see you on your next adventure
Man that car is super nice. Hope you guys have that car for a very long time God Bless my friend and have a great one. Keep it in the family if you can.
Great car. You need to install a CB radio plus an 8 track player and you're set! Come summer you can drive to the disco and pick up babes!
You just can't beat a Ford 9 inch-- bullet proof!!👍👍👍
Exactly
What a great little car. if it were mine (and only since you asked) I would do literally whatever it takes to get that gorgeous original speedometer working again. I mean, the LS is nice, but I'd rather run the original tranny if it meant having functioning gauges. The tiny plastic digital readout is a mega buzzkill in comparison. To a man who hates Cragars and flexi-hoses, I am sure you get what I mean, agree or not!
Awesome Mortske Monday! Maybe the name for your regularly scheduled programming should The Mortske Minute! Keeping it simple! Seems I recall you questioning wether or not that stock rear end could handle that LS! Seems you were right! 😂👍👊🙏
20,000th woo hoo !..... Your Dad showin' you the love over this yet ?....." 'Cause that's what we do.... We break things and we show ya".....LOL
This weeks test drive was reminiscent of the movie Driving Miss Daisy. Surprised that there wasn't a clip included. Keep up the good work Mortske crew.
Will do!
You can tell that car drives great just by watching you Cruse it godda love a Buick
"after several burnouts the rear end decided to, I don't know what happened..." That kinda sounds like something I told my dad back in the 70's :)
haha
Whoa, Indiana speeds are crazy. I've "seen people" on the highway doing 80-85mph on average, it's a brisk pace. And I'm in New Zealand, we don't have as many long, straight roads as you guys. But for the Buick; my picks would be rear tires first. Then stereo and headlights next
Nice video as always and your Dad has a great son. Love seeing duff. Always a great way to start my week
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great episode. You should call the editorial portion "Mortske Musings" .
I like it
Awesome job beautiful car .
You should call it "The Mortske informed"
I thank it's cool your keeping the drum brakes. Thank you for not putting a chrome diff cover on.
Always good to see a proper fresh rear end breakin procedure, it only takes a little time to help them live their longest life.Offshore parts generally look good but can have some durability issues, a crap shoot.
I think that you do enough of this that you should buy or build a set up for measuring the space for tires and wheels so you can allllllways get the correct size on everything the first time!!!! Filling the rear wheel wells is MONSTER in making a car really look cool!!
That rear end is one fine piece of engineering, maybe "Duffdogs Kibble Bits" for a tidbits name
i picked up on your show a year ago. watched all previous. never missed a friday since, unless i had to work. it’s evolved. really good. love duff cuz i like dogs more than people, and he is obviously an exception. 12 pack of bud goes in the freezer an hour before i press play. thanks for the show.
monday
Our pleasure!
Great job on this upgrade. Sometimes reading those destructions before assembly actually pay off on assembly. Glad to see poor old Duff got to take a ride this week. I'm pretty sure anything you want to do on this project we will all still watch with our normal enthusiasm. Thanks for giving us a reason to look forward to Mondays!
Our pleasure Gary!
Duff is chillin live a villain in the back set ! I been spying on this 4 door hard top. Glide to see a vid on her finally !
Another great video, Thanks. I have adopted the Mortske Rule and will emulate it daily for the rest of my life.
haha
Bring on more return projects! Will it starts are cool but building projects is even better. Great work keep it up!
Nice job on getting that pulled together! Dad will be happy!
I think so too!
Never doubt the old timers they have seen. It all
Yup
Morning Mr Mortske and Duff from Alabama
My childhood buddy's Dad had an Electra 225.. what a beast😂
Hey! If 1 minute doesn't suffice, 5 never will! 🤣🤣
That's what she said!
@@MortskeRepair lmao! I had a feeling you'd say that. 🤣
Heck, anyone complaining about the cut scenes being used too often….
Ignore em. I always laugh at them, even though i have seen them many times. Especially the “YAYYYY” one.
Which are the strongest days of the week?
Saturday and Sunday, the rest are weekdays.
Bahaha, classic!
Looks like driving Miss Daisy with Duff. You could call the info clips Monday updates with Mortske
Keep the updates coming(spotlights). Love the history!!! Have a couple two tree Duff's head spin around in a circle(psychedelic) and go Duffaloooo Duffalooooo Duffaloooooo(Wayne's worldesque) welcome to the Duffalooo SPotlight minute.......then at the end go the Duff ya know and have Duff's head shot across like the shooting star with a rainbow behind it!!!!!!!!!
I slay me!
I just installed a Quick Performance Ford 9 inch in my AMC Hornet. Great product, great people over there. I also went with drum brakes and the bare steel housing, and painted it black. I have installed two other QP 9 inches for customers and both had Wilwood disc brakes and powder coating. One was powder coated orange, so I loved Mortske's comment on that.
Awesome!
Keep doing what you want to do, my dog(Belle)and I enjoy you and Duff.
Thank you! Will do!
Been catching up on Puddin' material this week. Time for some Mortske Repair!!!
I'm surprised the 10 bolt in independence lasted like it did.. long live independence, enjoy your retirement. Btw this content is awesome. Keep up the good work man.
Thank you!
Grew up on Buicks. Great memories. Our 2 door 67 Buick Special vert had the same crack in the steering wheel even. Cool your keeping the lineage going.
Such a beauty of an automobile - got a soft spot for those Buicks, thanks for another awesome upload Morske!
Our pleasure!
Not gonna lie, that spider gear carnage was mint!
I did same thing to my Monte SS , I had never did a rear end swap, so I just started pull stuff out on ground lol finally got QP in. But they want 500 more for drum brakes so with with disc, but everything went well great product been five years now! Great job
Really like the body style of that Buick. Dad has to be proud of that ride 👍👍
Dufffffy riding like TOP DAWG in that Buick..............................................
Dude! That Ford Tow Truck is sweet. I dig that land yacht Buick
Great looking car. Great update on its reliability. Just what every guy needs when retired. Still has lots of little projects to pick at when bored, but it starts the first flick of the key and just drives.
I'd probably paint the calipers something subtle too. Never been a fan of advertising what I have.
Mr Mortske that is a good looking cool car and now it's all New ish again, you did a good job and iam sure your father is very proud, great video, Thankyou.
Thanks much James!
Love this car! For your little segments about history, suppliers, etc....Pammy thinks you should call them "Mortske's Morsels"...
Good suggestion!
Another Mortske manufacturers moment sounds good
“Knowledge with Mortske and Duf”
You made the right choices on the Buick upgrades the LS swap us the 9" Ford rear-end will definitely hold up to to that LS. That 66 Buick favors the 66 chevelle, glad you are keeping the "show and or tell" segment. Pops is gonna enjoy that ride.
Mortkes moments..? Or history moments..? Or memories. Or memorable moments..lol or Mortkes Madness moments..
