Great Video, when you popped the oil pan and the diff, nightmare rust. I have worked on a bike that had hub bearings sat in water, they were a total wreck just like the car.

Body and frame wise this car is in great shape for its age and would be an awesome start for a project to get it back on the road, and it would be great to leave as much of it as it is! It’s a pity about all the driveline being almost destroyed by rust. The waterline on the doors was definitely a hint of what was to come. Thanks Mortske!
That is the most rust ive ever seen in a driveline! Just last week I got a 68 mustang 289 up and running after sitting with the carb open and no hood in a field for 5 years. I let it sit in tranny fluid for a week then spent a couple hours getting the 289 to make a full revolution, and now its up and running and found that it has a big cam in it too! Keep up the great content!

The 56 is one of my favourite body styles it started the tear drop rear wheel well that carried over to the 57 Belair , much better look than the squared off rear wheel well of the 55 !
I do enjoy Mortske Mondays and the car overall looks good but it appears the drivetrain on this one is smoked. That was a lot of water damage in that motor. Some days you get 7s and 11s and some days you roll snake eyes. Love the channel, keep up the good work.

The ole "Mortske magic" won't work with this motor 🤔😁! However, the body/frame appears to be in great shape. Might make someone a good project. Thanks to you and Mr Duff for sharing!
Greetings Mr Mortske, to bad about the drive train, it really is a nice car otherwise. Hopefully someone gets it to bring it back. Great program Mort and keep up the good work. Take care 👍
Love the Channel and your Production Style. This 56 is pretty cool. If it were mine I would just clean it up and leave it a Patina Build. Could be fun to put something like a 4.3 l v6 out of an s-10. Good gas mileage and reliability. Ehh who am i kidding, I would probably just drive the s-10...
So i just got an old truck bad on the road, and the oil pan in in looked just like this one. It was full of water and froze. The ol small block was a 4 bolt, so I beat the slugs out of it and rebuilt it. Drove it yesterday for the first time, and wouldn't you know the trans has no 3rd gear 🙄. Keep the good content rollin
Tough one Mortske. But that baby has good bones. Great frame, rockers, body panels with no whiskey dents. Ya might wanna hang on to her and think about a future project. Hard to find a better '56 or '50 anything! Yo Duff! Woof!!!
So did they drain the oil and let it sit, or did it run out when it sat in water? Either way, that sucks! Such a beautiful car. Thanks for another great video. 😊
I hope no one buys it, not wishing you any harm, it's just that I'd love to watch you work your magic on it. In the mean time, I'm going to watch your episode in transforming the 88 Suburban!!!
I think that since I don’t currently have a driveline for this, I’d go with an LS swap and make it a daily driver. I know, I know… overdone. But since I’ve never done one, it wouldn’t be overdone at my place

Omg, better off dead! I loved that movie when I was a kid, my brothers best friend had a 68 exactly like the one in the movie. I watched that movie all the time just cause of the little French girl working on the car at the end.
I would lift the body off the frame, buy a LOT of e vap o rust, soak the rear center section, try to free it up, then the trans, then try to clean up and rebuild the engine. It wasn’t run after the water went in, it looks worse than it is
That’s a crazy solid project for a very fair price. Shame about the Titanic’s drivetrain but no shocker there. I’d slap a less trashed drivetrain in her, get the hot rod look goin’ and drive the hell out of it. Maybe a 2dr conversion in the distant future. Plenty of room for turbos up front too!!
Don't know what brand your torch head is but harbor freight sells a head and hose kit for torch tanks, and a company around me called Indiana oxygen co.also sells a torch head and hoses kit
That '56 would be perfect for a 2-door conversion because there's not much rust repair to be done and all the weld areas are solid. And...it would make a great hot rod project because all the stuff that usually gets replaced is already toast so it can just get removed and tossed. Disc brakes up front and a 9-inch in the rear would be good, with anyold smallblock and T5 would make it a great street runner. No need to be cutting-edge, just a clean, old-school hot rod like my friends had in high school. Good then, good now!
Mort I'm not real sure that is a 265. Reason being is the oil filter on the bottom end. The 265 in 55 and 56 had a upright cannister that bolted to the thermostat housing up top. With the older 283 on the bottom end it was a cannister that had a drop in filter. Latter they could be adapted to the better spin on Frams. I had both a 55 and a 56 265 and both were top side oil cannisters. Me thinks some one may have dropped in a 283 at some point.
I actually like 4 door cars, never was on the "2 door only" bandwagon. I would love to have this car but I just don't have the budget to do it justice. I really think you should keep this one and do a little here and there. At the very least it would be content for ya. Thanks for doin what ya do to keep us entertained and inspiring us to do something rather than just dream about it!
1955 was a 12 volt generator also. Those front bumper guards are expensive Looks like a Awsome car Hope u fix it up. My favorite tri 5 Great content keep it up
That oil pan is a good thing for 2 reasons, it will hold more oil which is good or you could clean it up and use it for donations so you don’t lose the shop! 😅
I like the 56s over the 57s, being a four door doesn't bother me. I would put in a new engine and a 5speed and just do some minor body work and gut the interior. Thanks for another great video and you can talk as much as you want.
My dad had a 56 Chevy for a little while and I remember the first time I ever drove it. The main thing that I remember about it is how easy and smooth the steering was even though it didn't have power steering , it felt like it did.

Interesting
I actually like 4 door cars, never was on the "2 door only" bandwagon. I would love to have this car but I just don't have the budget to do it justice. I really think you should keep this one and do a little here and there. At the very least it would be content for ya. Thanks for doin what ya do to keep us entertained and inspiring us to do something rather than just dream about it!
The crankshaft from the TITANIC LOL!!!!!!!!!!
1955 was a 12 volt generator also. Those front bumper guards are expensive Looks like a Awsome car Hope u fix it up. My favorite tri 5 Great content keep it up
All radios were where dealer installed not factory to bad it’s not a wonder bar radio
1957 had the drain plug in rear diff
I’d put 350 4 speed manual and have fun driving
That oil pan is a good thing for 2 reasons, it will hold more oil which is good or you could clean it up and use it for donations so you don’t lose the shop! 😅
Great point!
I like the 56s over the 57s, being a four door doesn't bother me. I would put in a new engine and a 5speed and just do some minor body work and gut the interior. Thanks for another great video and you can talk as much as you want.
Right on
My dad had a 56 Chevy for a little while and I remember the first time I ever drove it. The main thing that I remember about it is how easy and smooth the steering was even though it didn't have power steering , it felt like it did.
i think thats why the steering wheels were so big, too compensate for that.
Hi Mortske . Thought Duff might still be running after that encounter with Bambi . Another sweet car but when you get the parts please do more on that bubble top
Will do!
Hey and hello 👋 from the city of brotherly love (otherwise once called the armpit of America). Too bad Miss '56 had sat in Lake Rust for too many years. Sure to make someone a nice project.
Thanks again for providing us all with entertaining content. Your shows are my high point of the week. Don't listen to the moaning Karens and keep doing what you're doing. You have more fans then complainers. Give Sir Duff a pat on the head for his hood opening exploits 😸
(Oh, Miss '56s paint color was Pinecrest green)
Our pleasure Andrew!
Oh no! The pleasure is all mine!
Glad to see another Will It Run video. Unfortunately, you can't win them all. I think if the lubricants had been kept in the engine, tranny and diff, despite sitting in water, it would have had a chance of recovery.
Yeah.... Agree other Dan.
That was a good one to watch, great job.
Glad you enjoyed it
