Here’s an idea for a follow up video from this: Editing. Software and hardware used, techniques, and all the other stuff that goes into editing and publishing a video on UA-cam. Just like camera settings it’s subjective, but like many other viewers I really like how you put videos together.
i just started messing around with moto videos myself, if you are looking into a really good free editing software, check out DaVinci Resolved. Found out about it a few weeks ago, tried, video looks amazing. lots of feature and will render to through 4K unlike some other programs that say they do but dont. If okay with paying, i noticed everyone tends to go for final cut pro for mac or premier
Dude! This is the SPOT! I just ordered a Go Pro 7 twenty minutes ago... with almost Zero idea of how to make it work with my bikes, (or how to make it work at ALL)... and you just opened the DOOR, Bro. Thanks!
I recently just got his whole setup for my GT Air 2, one VERY important point: be sure you have the right type of microphone for your GoPro. It must have a 3.5mm / 3 pole plug (not a 4 pole plug that resembles an earphones plug). There are microphones that are 4 pole, but those only work on phones (that have a 3.5mm mini stereo jack) not a GoPro. The simplest way to know which is which is to count the number of black insulating bands on the plug: a 4 pole plug has three, a 3 pole plug has two. Be sure your GoPro mic has two black bands. Im using the GoPro Hero 5 so i needed to use the extra audio jack connecter that connects to the microphone jack.
With the go pro 8 i put it in a media mod and avoided using that adapter for the mic. It's little nullify but beats having something else on the side of my helmet. It's a cleaner look.
I've wanted to record my rides since I started riding and didn't know what to get so thank you, this helped a lot. I picked up a Hero 7 Black, ND Filters & a Chin Mount for my RF-1200. Can't wait to set it up!
I’ve got a similar setup, same helmet different GoPro, how do you go with audio? My external mic picks up too much engine noise from the bike - stock pipe and pretty quiet.
@@colbyclark2479 It's been great. Never had any issues and the picture quality is amazing. I can't speak on the newer models, but I'd recommend the 7 for sure
You’re awesome and been watching your channel for a long time. Just something to consider. If someone has a hero 7 or older then this setup works. But I found that for hero 8 all you need is a mount, panda mic and GoPro media mod, done. Easiest and best setup. Just a suggestion. Thanks for what you do.
I use basically the same setup and it is AMAZING! I stopped using 60fps because 1st too mainstream, 2nd they're WAY overrated and 3rd eliminates the sense of speed..i filmed a weekend in the mountains at 60fps and it was completely ruined, we were going 70+km/h on average, looked like we pushed our bikes by feet going 10..24fps, more realistic and immersive. The only differences in my setup are the side mount (i like to have the gopro lens in the dead center of the helmet), color profile set to Flat (as a filmmaker i'm used to Log profiles) and max ISO at 1600, i'm using an ND16 all the time and seems to work just fine, i just take it out if i film night rides. Just a little correction: what you said about image stabilization is right, but the GoPro hero 5 won't allow I.S. at 4k and/or 24fps. I'm also using a 2€ laptop boom microphone with an aux extension cord and works like a charm, too bad the Icon Variant is garbage and lets in way too much wind.
I am so glad I found this video. It is the most informative video I have found. I just got a Gopro 10 and I have been wondering how to mount it and also how to get good sound. You have answered all my questions. Thank you very much!
I have mine very similar but with the gopro mount and small straight extender, I also sanded the extender and tips of the part with the rubber on so I can angle it back a little more, so close and clean on the front. I also use Sugru to stick it down strong, then mask it and paint it to make it a bit cleaner looking. My mic adaptor is in a similar place too, but I've started using external audio again as either the gopro mic adaptor connector or gopro connector might be damaged. Audio is great until I accelerate or go above 50 mph and it just crackles and ruins the footage, I refuse to pay £50 for another adaptor, such a rip off, still gutted I can't use it all the time though. My stereo mic works great sitting on top of the cheek pad, no tickling of my mouth or nose lol, it is a bigger mic though, one of those Sony ones, had it almost four years and still works great. I have got others including the PP that I've tried over the past couple years or so, but for me the Sony is better.
Won't work on my O'Neal off-road helmet, or my Icon street full face, so "(for EVERY helmet)" is mis-leading. That said, it's a cool product and I appreciate you letting us know about it.
actually you can make your own mount to fasteb the base plastic mount to about any helmet, I used JB weld to make a molded mount to fit a Bilt mondular helmet
For others using the purple panda mic, don't use the adapter they send out. The first one died within a month, the replacement within a week. It took me forever to figure out it was the adapter that was the issue, and not the microphone itself. My footage would only have buzzing white noise, and no actual audio. Order a TRRS to TRS adaptor and you should be good to go.
Another option for ND filter is a company called Camera Butter. They stick on and off with a reusable sticky section. I use them for the gopro on my quadcopter. They hold up great to abuse as well.
I got one stop solutions for all my confusions. Best way to mount a go-pro on helmet, a good idea about that dramatic effect (gained by playing with shutter speed and ND filter thing) and idea about settings for audio. Thank you so much brother, love from India!
I would love to know if you add any effects within premier to clean-up the audio? My Panigale V2 is quite loud and I have a hard time hearing myself talk while on the throttle. *Thanks Moto!*
ND32 is 5 stops down, so with each stop you're losing half the light. Anything that's under extreme sunshine gotta be ND32 and at dusk ND8 at least to keep the shutter speed under control.
thanks for this tip man. i have both hero 5 and hero 8. i'm going to try the settings you mentioned on my 8. I prefer using the hero8 for now because of the hypersmooth 2.0, it's way more stable and smooth especially here where I'm from where the roads are bumpy as hell! more power man! :)
Have you found a way to enable quick capture with audio when using an external mic? It’s too difficult to turn the GoPro on and then begin filming while moving, and you’ve normally missed the moment…
Thanks bro I needed this video. I bought my 8 black back in December and haven't been able to find that sweet spot. Going to try and do the settings now
@@Frankie_Freedom Nobody has a fix for it. I bought a different mic (giant squid mic) and it doesn't have that problem but the sound isn't as nice as the purple. It's definitely a purple panda problem.
Depends on the weight of your mount and what cam u use but I’d imagine it might tug a little more with wind but nothing to crazy bc it’s in front of u and not like to the side where it can catch more wind but idk I’m not a pro😂
Would be amazing if you offered the LUT as well. I recently picked up a used gopro hero 5 and I'm excited to put together a motorvlog set up based on this!
If you're gonna colour grade your footage you should always shoot in the flat colour profile. Shooting in gopro colour and then colour grading just unnecessarily degrades the image and takes away flexibility and dynamic range. If you're having to set the iso max to 3200 you're not using the appropriate ND for the lighting condition. Great video on mounting position but settings are garbage.
Not sure how you stuck the GoPro adapter to the VHB tape cos it don’t stick the adapter is rubberised! Even gaffa tape and all types of double sided don’t stick. I wanted to use high quality Velcro or dual lock not a chance
Excellent and informative...I'm watching closely and it appears I could do the chin mount on a Shoi Modular helmet, yes/. What is your take on mounting this and mic on a modular helmet? I am currently using a Sena 10C Evo, and it works fine, but the battery drain is very high...
Hi! Just a question! Why need a micprohpone adapter if you can buy and connect directly a microphone in the Gopro? I didn't buy my gopro yet I'm just would like to know it is impossible to use without adapter? Thanks for answer! Ride safe!
I have a wired setup microphone in my helmet also . The purple panda but I haven't figured out a way to hold my mic in place even though its behind the cheek pad?

i got a brand new cbr 600rr the bike feels like it wants to get out from under me and its hard to not throttle it too much in first into 2nd. any tips on when its best to shift so the bike doesnt feel like its gonna fly away ?
Was your purple panda 3.5 jack a TRS or TRRS style? I bought the purple panda a week ago and since it uses TRRS it's incompatible with the GoPro 3.5 adapter.
Good info man. Sadly, I have an HJC i90 helmet and they designed it where the air intake for the mouth area is right in the way of any chin mount. Ugh. I didn't think about that when I bought the thing of course. I have to use three or four GoPro adapter pieces to make it even work, which is very bulky. I get by, but it's not ideal. I am getting some ideas from your video so thanks! Oh, when you use the GoPro mic adapter is there some setting on the camera you have to select? I have the HERO 6 black. ;)
I'm so confused. I thought the cam would come with mic and other bits required. And hoped it would auto adjust to bright and dark conditions. I only wanted one incase of an accident but I'm not going through all this hassle.
Been looking for a chin mount for my new Biltwell Lane Splitter - just picked one up from Chin Mounts, thanks for the recommendation, stoked to try it out!
Hey, I think if you wrap your mt-09 as the same color of your helmet it might turn out great. Only a suggestion, since we haven't had Mt-09 content for a while. Love your videos, easily one of my favorite youtube channels. Haven't missed a single video of yours!
Concerning the nd filters, the magnets for the 8 are really good with speed, not so much when you knock it by accident with your hand... broke one today at a light 🙄
Right on man, very useful info. I'm using a very similar setup and I agree hero 5 / purple panda combo seems to be a good mix. I use the Shoei GT Air 2 helmet and it actually has a lot of space around the mouth and it's very quiet. I didn't think about the space being a benefit till you mentioned that. Thanks!
i have the chin mount for my HJC arpha 70 carbon but it seems i can't lean the camera back enuff to make it so that is isnt filming my instrument cluster and very little of the road in front of me ....the camera is push back towards the helmet as far as i can make it and i am using the same gopro "holder" as you are in the video..any ideas why i can't push the camera back towards the helmet enuff to film farther in front of the bike and not have my view as the instrument cluster the entire ride?
Good idea on heating the glue pad with a heat gun before applying. I never knew that. I mount my second GoPro on the side of the helmet inline with my right ear. So that would be center side. I like my Hero 7 Black. I may get another? I was looking for a good used Hero 5 but people are asking way too much for a used camera. I may as well put a few extra bucks to the pot and get another Hero 7 Black when the price drops to 229 again......and it will. Great video, full of good information. Barry
you said not to use cheap ND filters. I have a hero 6 and bought those Chinese kits with ND 4 to 32 that are mounted replacing the original cover lens. Do you have any bad experience with these more affordable filters?!
If you don't want to spend $35 for a chin mount use jb weld original clay. Its usually $6. Use masking tape to mask off where you want to place the camera and mold the jb weld with the gopro mount. Let sit for 10 minutes to harden then remove from helmet. Remove masking tape and let it sit over night so it fully cures. Apply the double side 3m tape then your finished. Total cost is less then $10 and literally works on every helmet.

I cannot see a chin mount for the Shark Spartan, is there one available?
One thing you forgot - what is the best way to stop/start the video camera whilst on the move .... thanks
What’s the best power source option, just extra batteries?
I do not see a link for the hero 8 side plug to put on if using a mic?
Does it really hold that well? I’m still on the fence about adhesives
i got a brand new cbr 600rr the bike feels like it wants to get out from under me and its hard to not throttle it too much in first into 2nd. any tips on when its best to shift so the bike doesnt feel like its gonna fly away ?
I have the HERO 6 black. ;)
Would that chin mount work on a Shoei helmet?
I'm so confused. I thought the cam would come with mic and other bits required. And hoped it would auto adjust to bright and dark conditions. I only wanted one incase of an accident but I'm not going through all this hassle.
Been looking for a chin mount for my new Biltwell Lane Splitter - just picked one up from Chin Mounts, thanks for the recommendation, stoked to try it out!
What if the Microphone adapter gets rained and wet?
Will it have issues?
Hey, I think if you wrap your mt-09 as the same color of your helmet it might turn out great. Only a suggestion, since we haven't had Mt-09 content for a while. Love your videos, easily one of my favorite youtube channels. Haven't missed a single video of yours!
Might throw my setup together again and make a video for old times sake
Concerning the nd filters, the magnets for the 8 are really good with speed, not so much when you knock it by accident with your hand... broke one today at a light 🙄
Will this work for a modular helmet?
Hey!!! I bought my bike at woods too!! Aren’t they amazing!!
You're the best motovlogger, hands down. Cheers from Taiwan!
Hello have a question what app do you use for editing your video?
Is the m3 stickers tough enough? Like there’s no need to worry about it falling?
If you don't want to spend $35 for a chin mount use jb weld original clay. Its usually $6. Use masking tape to mask off where you want to place the camera and mold the jb weld with the gopro mount. Let sit for 10 minutes to harden then remove from helmet. Remove masking tape and let it sit over night so it fully cures. Apply the double side 3m tape then your finished. Total cost is less then $10 and literally works on every helmet.
I saw these a couple weeks but unfortunately they don’t have a mount for my Fly Carbon
think you forgot to link the hero 8 battery door adapter w a hole for microphone adapter
and the 3m adhesive
Just ordered a gopro helment mount from chin mounts because of you 3/6/24 thank you

How do you deal with overheating?
A quick question from a Newbie..... with the Microphone on, can I activate the Go-Pro using my voice? I've found that because my motorbike gloves are quite thick, then I can't tell whether I'm in 'record' mode or not.... thanks.
