Brit here and have to say how disheartening to see so many people saying that Greggs is Britains best bakery, when really majority of their products are reheated from frozen, and full of mush. No comparison with their sausage rolls with proper butchers sausage rolls.
It's nice to see someone from another country that actually gets British food. All your videos in the UK have been top-notch so far. The UK gets a bad reputation for its cuisine, when in reality we have some of the best food in the world when it's cooked and prepared properly. Your comment about eating sausage and mash on a beach somewhere is spot on, our food predominantly is in tune with our climate, long winter days call for warm, tasty comfort food…loved your reaction to the Shepherds pie, it’s one of my favs…spot on Ben.
Them cold winter days, u get in put your feet up and have a beer and a beef stew with dumplings, or a nice roast dinner, very brown and dark looking to go with our weather 99% of the time. Hearty food for dark grey weathers🤝
It's really nice to see you not only embrace so much british food but clearly getting a decent understanding of it too. Knowing that the difference between cottage pie and shepherds pie is (for the most part) lamb vs beef etc. Couple pronounciation issues here and there ;) but nah in all seriousness watching your british food journey feels very wholesome

I've grown up eating these foods on a weekly basis for the majority of my life and it's funny watching someone from another country show such enthusiasm for such easy to make food. It is good food, don't get me wrong, it's to the point. It's the same with pie and mash which you should try and get from East London if you can with the parsley sauce and you should finish that off with apple crumble and custard.
Those are Garden peas Ben.. mushy peas are processed marrowfat peas.. they both go with different types of food.. don't change your ways.. love the way you get stuck in..😊
Iv watched you for years and sp proud you get to try British. I finally get to relate to what you try. Please, next try the STEAK AND ALE PIE or THE ENFLISH STYLE KEBAB

I really don’t want your channel to end hopefully we can still see you posting more content on Korean dishes much love from Scotland 🏴 bro 👊
The pubs, especially in Shoreditch or central areas where a lot of corporations are head-quartered, have a big social culture. Going to the pub a bit earlier, especially on a Thursday or Friday for colleague bonding is highly encouraged. I work for an advertising company that's based in Soho, and every Thursday the company puts on a free drinks and a massive charcuterie and snack spread at 5pm and there's a local we frequent once the food is gone - even though we technically finish at 6. Some naughty ones leave earlier. It might have been me at the pub 😂😂😂
Yeah them Thursday nights in london are the Friday of the regular world, all work friends going out and being hungover together Friday morning at work haha! My girlfriend works in an office in Canary Wharf and I’ve been taken along a few times, great nights out
Toad > Bangers and Mash - but both good. If the foods not wrong and not cold then delivery drivers get a tip always. Edit: If you have a M&S nearby (Marks and Spencer) and an oven go grab some food there. The Gastropub meal deals usually hit pretty good for like £10-12
Youuu tried it😊😊😊😅😅 shepherd's pie! Aww Im so happy you liked it! Knew you would..its warming food...especially in a country where its raining and cold alot...you get it. It warms your belly and your soul. Lol😅. Bangers and mash is next level comfort food too.😮😮😂😊😊😊 thanks Ben!
The English loves the outside when it is not raining, and when it is day time, they would just stand outside and drink with their friends (or solo). Sometimes it can be because it would be illegal to smoke inside so they have to stand outside to smoke, and their friends stand there with them. As for not eating dinner in the pub at 5pm, it depends on the pub, some pubs are not for food and some are more for drinking, and it also depends on the day. Go to most pubs on a sunday afternoon then you are more inclined to find food eating crowd vs Monday night.
Definitely not weird! I think A lot of us here grew up on bangers mash and beans when our parents needed an easy night, but it definitely wasn't a disappointment lol
There's two version of that dish for any other Americans that are watching Bens videos. The Sheppards pie and the Cottage pie. Sheppards pie should be with minced Lamb/mutton and Cottage is with minced beef. Just for the record, british people don't eat this kind of food every day. We can eat colourful vegatables lol
Personally I love to have baked beans with my Bangers, Mash and Onion gravy. Try traditional Lancashire Hotpot with accompaniment of Pickled Red Cabbage.
I love Ben's videos, he's a guy who just loves his food, and gives us a take on the British classics with no prior experience, and mostly he likes it. Good sign that the bad rep we have is wrong, sure we do have bad food, but done well British food is pretty darn good! Ben - Nah, don't get rid of the eating noise, it's part of the way you do it!
Have some fresh peas or green beans and LASHINGS of Heinz Tomato Ketchup with your bangers and mash, Ben… you’ll be in heaven! There really isn’t anything more comforting for these cold and rainy autumn nights. ☔️
P.S: Your sadness at the end of the video - about Cumberland sausages (😂) and not wanting to go home - is tugging at my heartstrings. We’ve loved having you here. x
Mushy peas are made with marrowfat peas which taste completely different to garden peas anyway, I'd always add a couple of veggies to sausage and mash, cabbage is great and Shepherds pie isn't particularly Irish, I'd definitely say it was equally British/Irish, my Mum would always make Shepherds pie with the leftovers from a leg of lamb from the Sunday roast, and just sort of tear it into chunky pieces, the big thing for me which makes sausage and mash though is the onion gravy, it's brown food for sure, but homey, comforting and delicious, nice video!
loving this series so far, coming from someone who's from the UK you've done a great job! looking forward to the next two weeks of british classics! people give the UK such a bad rap but ben just shows that our food and our culture is amazing! thank you for visiting the UK
Ben there is seriously nothing more British than going to your local supermarket and picking out a meal deal wether it’s Tesco or co-op, so it’s one thing you should definitely try out a few items😂
Glad to see you enjoying the British foods. Many countries have quite fancy looking dishes and British foods don’t look anything special comparatively. But they’re just as you say, hearty filling meals with good flavours to “warn the cockles” as they say. Whilst you’re here (if you still are) try the variety of sausages we have here. Cumberland sausage is beautiful, but we also have a variety of flavoured sausage which are all unique and incredible. Just like you said, I could eat bangers and mash any day, with a good gravy you can never go wrong. Glad you’re enjoying your visit mate.
I like the eating noise haha. Just started watching ur vids from these British dishes and I’ve found them so enjoyable! So gratifying to see you try these dishes for the first time and genuinely loving them! Good stuff.
Mate, glad you enjoyed these classic dishes so much, there's many more you should try. Lamb Hot Pot is a winner, Irish stew (beef) with dumplings, fish pie etc, lots of super hearty comfort food that's perfect for Autumn / Winter, enjoy!
This guy gets it. We know we don't have the variety or sophistication of some other food cultures but the stuff we do well absolutely bangs and as you say is appropriate to the environment.
Yes! Shepherds pie with cheesy top and peas is a staple dinner in our house, bangers and mash we usually have peas or carrots but onion gravy is a must . Next time get some of that mustard out to go with the sausages and some mint sauce with the shepherds pie . So nice to see you enjoying classic British food !
Oh mate, you should have some Hendersons relish with that. In Yorkshire you can't eat either of those without it. Such comfort food. We do put cheese on a cottage pie too and bake it. Yup pubs are always packed. We love a drink 😂xx
i acctually laughed out loud when you dropped the fork cuz it was a fork dropping moment 😭😭 ahahah i’m actually so happy that you enjoyed these simple dishes cuz i love them with my whole heart too 🤞🏽👍🏽 lastly i rlly loved the way you understood how these dishes are perfect for the british climate!! bangers and mash/shepards pie on a cold, gloomy day>>>>>>
Shepherds pie is one of my all time favourites. So glad to find you enjoying it. Just started watching your videos a few days ago. Been stuck in bed with a really bad sprained ankle and found your channel. I wish there was more of the drinking while you eat, that one was fun when you were drinking for every S word.
Dude, you gotta eat the peas on the same fork of Shepherds Pie. Most British dishes are about flavour combo's. That's why the Full English rules, the combinations are endless.
Hi BenDean you have now had the Best of British, Bangers and Mash and Shepherds Pie is just out of this world its so delicious. You are now 100% Brit eating these mighty fine foods, they are what make Great Britain great! You should try pie and mash next you will love that too.
If you like these, there's a lot of regional dishes around the UK that are, essentially meat and potatoes. Couple mash ones from Scotland - stovies (basically crushed / mashed potato with beef and a bit of veg, eaten with oat cakes), and mince and tatties. So almost like a deconstructed cottage pie.
Deconstructed cottage pie lol. Actually we do eat mince and potatos in England also ... not that common anymore though but when i was a kid it was common, and a staple of school dinners.
You’re right, cold and grey (and a lot of rain) means you need cheering up which is why I think comfort food became king here. Us Brits can’t do without it…
Hello Ben, you were speaking about food in different environments and how they taste different. This is definitely true with fish and chips as they taste better by the sea. If possible you should give it a go
this is so nice to see honestly someone not from here appreciating our food americans primarily hate on our food but have yet to try it, proving them wrong yet again :D

Those are Garden peas Ben.. mushy peas are processed marrowfat peas.. they both go with different types of food.. don't change your ways.. love the way you get stuck in..😊
Your voice is so relaxing I could listen to you talk all day!
Iv watched you for years and sp proud you get to try British. I finally get to relate to what you try. Please, next try the STEAK AND ALE PIE or THE ENFLISH STYLE KEBAB
Ben to the bangers and mash- “that is all I really need in life”
us to Ben “your videos are all we need in life” ♥️
Ben you’re killing it on UA-cam!
You have such a unique way with words when you’re narrating on your videos.
Please ignore all the negative comments you’re doing fantastic!
I really don’t want your channel to end hopefully we can still see you posting more content on Korean dishes much love from Scotland 🏴 bro 👊
There are good reasons that these dishes have been around for so long, and on this day you found out why: genuine harty old fashioned simple tastes.
My girlfriend works in an office in Canary Wharf and I’ve been taken along a few times, great nights out
I absolutely love bangers n mash. Here in NZ, we also add either peas, corn, carrots or beans and smother them with the brown onion gravy. So good!
These are classic comfort foods. Hits the spot everytime. You can’t go wrong with these dishes 👍🏼
There both rank
@@alfiebud2677 *They're. And they DO both rank top of the fucking culinary charts, thanks for pointing that out
Toad > Bangers and Mash - but both good. If the foods not wrong and not cold then delivery drivers get a tip always.
Edit: If you have a M&S nearby (Marks and Spencer) and an oven go grab some food there. The Gastropub meal deals usually hit pretty good for like £10-12
Brits are already good at TV dinners due to geography and M&S is next level.
There has to have been an American that saw this comment and thought you we’re talking about the animal 💀
I know I'm weird here but I love hiens baked beans with bangers and mash, the combination of potato sausage gravy and beans is shockingly good
Imma have to try this one😂
Beans with your bangers and mash is elite!
This is wierd? Beans, mash and meat is super normal to me but idk i pay little attention to others eating habits, sounds perfectly fine to me 🤷♂️
Definitely not weird! I think A lot of us here grew up on bangers mash and beans when our parents needed an easy night, but it definitely wasn't a disappointment lol
@@EyesDontCrythat weird part is instead of replacing the gravy with beans, he has both
There's two version of that dish for any other Americans that are watching Bens videos. The Sheppards pie and the Cottage pie. Sheppards pie should be with minced Lamb/mutton and Cottage is with minced beef. Just for the record, british people don't eat this kind of food every day. We can eat colourful vegatables lol
*Shepherd (it’s like sheep herd 😅)
@@redeye1016cheers mate can’t even blame iPhone autocorrect on that either 😂
and neither are from Ireland like he said
Personally I love to have baked beans with my Bangers, Mash and Onion gravy. Try traditional Lancashire Hotpot with accompaniment of Pickled Red Cabbage.
Freak! You have beans AND onion gravy???
Sure do, Mmmmm!@@davebrown9707
We’ve loved having you here. x
Ketchup and gravy
HP brown is better than red with bangers and mash and gravy as it adds the peppery zing to it
Mushy peas are made with marrowfat peas which taste completely different to garden peas anyway, I'd always add a couple of veggies to sausage and mash, cabbage is great and Shepherds pie isn't particularly Irish, I'd definitely say it was equally British/Irish, my Mum would always make Shepherds pie with the leftovers from a leg of lamb from the Sunday roast, and just sort of tear it into chunky pieces, the big thing for me which makes sausage and mash though is the onion gravy, it's brown food for sure, but homey, comforting and delicious, nice video!
the smell of red onion gravy being made makes me gan rubbery, if you aren't hungry before you'll sure as shit be hungry after you smell it my days
loving this series so far, coming from someone who's from the UK you've done a great job! looking forward to the next two weeks of british classics! people give the UK such a bad rap but ben just shows that our food and our culture is amazing! thank you for visiting the UK
I'm here living in Spain (pretty far from a tourist are) and this video is making my mouth water! Can't beat that homely taste of English food!
Hell, I'm impressed he actually knows the difference between a cottage and a shepherd's pie!
Ben there is seriously nothing more British than going to your local supermarket and picking out a meal deal wether it’s Tesco or co-op, so it’s one thing you should definitely try out a few items😂
We wish you would stay too. You are one of us now, once you eat bangers and mash in the UK that basically makes you full British.
The background video with the cozy lounge with the fireplace going was a nice compliment to this "comfort food" video. It's the details Ben puts in. 👌
"That's a fork-dropper" 😆
Glad to see you enjoying the British foods. Many countries have quite fancy looking dishes and British foods don’t look anything special comparatively. But they’re just as you say, hearty filling meals with good flavours to “warn the cockles” as they say.
Whilst you’re here (if you still are) try the variety of sausages we have here. Cumberland sausage is beautiful, but we also have a variety of flavoured sausage which are all unique and incredible. Just like you said, I could eat bangers and mash any day, with a good gravy you can never go wrong.
Glad you’re enjoying your visit mate.
"WARM the cockles of one's heart..." (you hit the 'N' by mistake or the damn auto-correct kicked in - LOL!).
I like the eating noise haha. Just started watching ur vids from these British dishes and I’ve found them so enjoyable! So gratifying to see you try these dishes for the first time and genuinely loving them! Good stuff.
I’ve watched all your reviews last couple of weeks. Love them all. Great to see you experiencing all our typical food over here in the UK.
Mate, glad you enjoyed these classic dishes so much, there's many more you should try. Lamb Hot Pot is a winner, Irish stew (beef) with dumplings, fish pie etc, lots of super hearty comfort food that's perfect for Autumn / Winter, enjoy!
I always though Irish stew was made with lamb or mutton?
This guy gets it. We know we don't have the variety or sophistication of some other food cultures but the stuff we do well absolutely bangs and as you say is appropriate to the environment.
Very happy you popped up in my recommendations! Binged your vids and your style of eating is unique 😘
Bangers and mash so good, simple but hits the spot every time. Good with some bread too. You need to try mint sauce with a roast dinner
Ben please try Brick Lane's salt beef bagels from Beigel Bake! They are insane
i live 10 mins from this place and get them so much it's concerning; cheap and so delicious!!
💯
Fr tho
@@lxsa. 10 mins from my office, but queues are insane. They are really good, but you'll find better in NYC
And then walk down to City Spice for a curry.
omg you're doing this so well with the classics!!!
Love seeing people enjoy the classic English comforts - Ben, big up, mate, just subscribed - keep putting out quality content ❤
Oh mate, you should have some Hendersons relish with that. In Yorkshire you can't eat either of those without it. Such comfort food. We do put cheese on a cottage pie too and bake it. Yup pubs are always packed. We love a drink 😂xx
i acctually laughed out loud when you dropped the fork cuz it was a fork dropping moment 😭😭 ahahah i’m actually so happy that you enjoyed these simple dishes cuz i love them with my whole heart too 🤞🏽👍🏽 lastly i rlly loved the way you understood how these dishes are perfect for the british climate!! bangers and mash/shepards pie on a cold, gloomy day>>>>>>
i’m loving this british era ben!! ashame ur going so soon
W for the algorithm, so glad I found your channel - love watching your videos.
Recently discovered the joy of bangers and mash with beer battered onion rings, covered in gravy its banging 🎉
£25 for bangers and mash is robbery, even for London. It's also piss easy to make too.
The delivery fees are insane plus tip too. That’s probably why.
@@posemwen Yeah that is true, delivery app fees are getting out of control
Thank you for trying (and liking!) our food. Please keep the eating sounds!!
Dude, you gotta eat the peas on the same fork of Shepherds Pie. Most British dishes are about flavour combo's. That's why the Full English rules, the combinations are endless.
Exactly this. When I saw him scoffing all the peas at the start I was thinking 'stop, you're using all the peas up'.
My guy is eating like a 🇬🇧 gangster !
Cheers from 🇺🇸
Love ur reaction on u tasting food I knew u were gonna like the Shepherds Pie 👏🏻
Don't watch many food videos nowadays but for some reason I just really enjoy watching yours Ben. This series is sick too 👊
Hi BenDean you have now had the Best of British, Bangers and Mash and Shepherds Pie is just out of this world its so delicious. You are now 100% Brit eating these mighty fine foods, they are what make Great Britain great! You should try pie and mash next you will love that too.
Shepherds Pie comes from all across UK not just from Ireland. In fact the oldest surviving recipe is from Scotland.
Thanks for making this excellent series about our foods. You did well!
Bangers and Mash, comfort food at its finest. Glad you enjoyed it Ben. Shepherds Pie looked delicious too, made by someone who loves to cook no doubt.
He should go to Iceland and sample some of our weird ass frozen shit. Baked beans pizza
😂😂😂
🤣
Awww man!! I love good old stick to the ribs comfort winter foods like bangers & mash cottage/ shepherds pie Beef stew & dumplings
If possible you should give it a go
best food reviews videos you always keep it real no fake reactions
this is so nice to see honestly someone not from here appreciating our food americans primarily hate on our food but have yet to try it, proving them wrong yet again :D
I have to make sure I’m eating something whilst watching your videos because man you make me feel hungry I’ve craving bangers and mash at 11pm😂
Another suggestion would be pie's maybe? Like a steak and ale one 🤤
And yeah everyone loves a good drink after work 😂 sometimes I do it to avoid rush hour
that's the excuse I give :D
@@NickHunter it's the excuse we all use 👍😂
Chicken and leak aswell.
Oh man shepards pie is so good its my favourite, I'm almost offended you didn't have worcestershire sauce with it though😂
