What surprised me about 72S was Kirk's return to wah wah land after he genuinely took himself to exciting and uncharted places with his "Portals" EP. Tipping his hat to his classic rock influences from Scorpions to Blackmore, Kirk also used awesome new exotic sounds and solos that he never really tried in Metallica much. "The Maiden and the Monster" and " The Incantation" had fantastic ideas and musical storytelling that, I really was psyched and hoping for more exploration on 72S. I really like 72S as an album overall, but would loved Kirk to have tapped into his solo style more on it.
Wish he’d just get back into those weird ass solos on MOP and AJFA he did as well as RTL. He could definitely do it.
that's why i say now that kirk may have lost his drive for metallica, not necessarily music.
I personally think, that Room of Mirrors solo is great - maybe 8/10 for me. Yes, it is easy and simple but it really fits the song, it sounds great, punchy and fun and it is probably the best improvised studio solo made by Kirk. I can't help myself but I really love that solo. And the one in 72 seasons song is good too.
It shines ever brighter when is next to the horrendous suck that’s the Darkness solo
@@beinmetal So true, that solo is really one of his worst.
The last album feels as a whole like that to me - like is it full of contrasts like this.
@@beinmetalyea. However screaming had a good solo IMO.
@@beinmetal you really need to get the fuck out of the Ukraine man
Surely the unforgiven is his best improvised studio solo
When the rating of the weakest death magnetic solo is the same as the strongest 72 seasons solo ☠️
Because 72 Seasons is not an album. It's a bunch of stock riffs that sound like AI generated. This crap should have never been released. Bradley Hall would easily make a better Metallica style album in one day if he were up for a challenge.
@@tomkovjak666 Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Either have the same opinion about every Metallica album, or calm down. Not everything is the best, or worst to ever happen.
Wich was Bs, The end of the line solo is far from 6, is 3 at best, and honestly THAT is the worse Hammett solo ever, people over hate IDHS and since DM is a nostalgia album now... well
@@MeatisMagic256 One can have a different opinion about each and every album. It got nothing to do with nostalgia, 72 season is just utter crap and Kirk's part is absolutely the worst part of it. Stop being such a douchy fanbased crybaby "oh no, , how could anyone trashtalk muh medaliqa!1!11!!!".
I didn't even trashtalk. Listening to 72S is as enjoyable to me as sliding down razor blades with your bare ass. No single "wow" moment. HTSD was pretty good, Lulu and 72S should never make it out of the studio. But people will still worship everything with Metallica logo on it.
Disposable Heroes solo is my favourite
Preach
For some reason I always agreed but never understood why
Disposable Heroes is just one of their best songs
Disposable Heroes is their single most underrated solo ever
@MBBGun14, same!
The End Of The Line's solo sounds like it was written by Kerry King😭
Or maybe Kirk had a stroke playing it
Someone that acknowledges that "The Struggle Within" solo is great, not just the part after it
Theres sooo many scales modes and effects kirk could use but he continues to use pentatonic stops + wah wah. You never truly stop learning to play guitar, i think its sad kirk doesnt try to branch out more
Appreciated you keeping Dave's solos out of it 😂
yes, because the video is called “Best and Worst KIRK HAMMETT solos”
I love that you put Bleeding Me up and gave it such a strong 9/10 score. I love that song and think Kirk’s solo is tremendous, even if it’s the usual pentatonics and Wah. But he did also us a slide for some other leads, which was awesome.
another awesome video!
i’m so glad you put the struggle within slo, that wah part still gives me goosebumps after 100 times of listening
The world went to shit when kirk lost his phone... all the bs that happened since then can be linked back to that moment
Apparently his whole talent and creativity was on that iphone.
dude… the profile picture you have is ABSOLUTELY WILD 😂😂😂, but yeah Kirk losing his phone must seem like a big deal
Yoooo new video! Kirk's solos! Nice!
Props to you for pulling the "Got Milk?" meme from 1993. You rock.
The God that Failed is my favorite solo on The Black Album.
Honestly my favourite by kirk
I like that you recognized Room of Mirrors as OK, because I heard it and thought "alright, it is just like Hardwired: at least for one song, Kirk is back."
I think I would previously have said Master of Puppets for strongest solo on its album a few years ago, but I've since had Damage Inc grow on me a lot. It just is phrased so perfectly to go with the rhythm part and has so many memorable licks!
In fact, I put Damage there first, but then decided to balance the whole selection with a more melodic one, that is Sanitarium. Based on the ratings of the 84-91, nearly any solo could have been the strongest one, that was the golden age of Kirk
I like some of the solos on 72 seasons a lot! I like the titular track's, but especially room of mirrors and Inamorata. His solos on inamorata fit the song perfectly and really help the climax's of both parts of the song at least for me :3
I personally found the best of Kirk on Inamorata in the whole album, esp the final solo, the way it landed on the final note really took my heart. It is pentatonic though but as you said the way it gelled up with the rhythm was fantastic.
Black Album has nothing but great moments, makes it hard for me to choose the best Kirk solo on that album
Sandman really is an outlier there, to the sucky side. Any other song from the Black Album features an astonishing solo
@@beinmetalbut it's tons of fun
@@michakrzyzanowski8554agreed, you just feel like a total badass when you play it.
@@revertingtonothing985 the phrasing is legendary
Скучал по подобным видосам)
The comment for Struggle Within you said, I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT agree. It needs more attention, just such a sick track that unfortunately gets pushed aside because of all the other hits from the Black Album
THE STRUGGLE WITHIN!! I made a comment on the original video back then stating how underrated it was. Glad it got its recognition!!
Blackened solo is fucking brutal too!
So glad the bleeding me solo is the strongest on the list. Such an underrated song. In my opinion, one of the best contributions from Kirk
I can't believe you returned...
You even brought with you a separate award winning mustache.
My favorite song of all time is the day that never comes. Probably because I'm still waiting for it. Hard to pick a favorite. I'll put a instrumental Metallica mix on every so often at work. Noone is as good as they once were. I think what kept kirk from becoming more was actually Metallica. They got a sound and it's all got to fit in that box to keep it Metallica. When you got that kinda money you probably don't put the work in either. Guitar is something that never gets easier. Really got to work at it.
I think Inamorata solo (that kirk played) is prob the best on the album doe.
Esp the final solo I love the final riff( the one right before 'misery my misery' part) too.
Am I the only one who think that Inammorata solos (especially the last one) are fucking epic?
That solo is just not counted cuz its pentatonic, anything pentatonic played by musicians nowadays is considered 'meh' no matter how well it gels up with the soul, groove and rhythm of the song.
@@SuyashPandeyShubh Thats really a shame.
Aside from the unforgiven solo my all time favorite solo in black album is that the outro solo of wherever I may roam, what a kickass outro solo
Inamorata for ME is the best on 72 . Pulls emotion out of me like the old stuff
I think it would be cool to see a video like this from you, but metalica harmonies
It feels wrong to be this early but Al’s it feels so good at the sametime
The Day That Never Comes solo 🔥🔥🔥🔥
My friend of misery needs more recognition
Most people shit on solos on HTSD but imo they are quite good. Atlas rise, Am I savage and split have great solos.
His second solo on Inamorata is his best work on 72S in my opinion. Kinda messy but it has so much feel
one's solo is not even comparable to dyers eve and shortest straw
Death Magnetic was a great great album, i can't believe its 15 years old now
Ride the Lightning and Blackened are my two favorite Kirk solos.
Love that fade to black and one 10/10
Didnt get kill em all though. Were you saying 4 horseman has the best and worst solo?
Dave Mustardstain wrote the rest of the solos. Kirk just recorded them.
@@justbenelson I did know Dave had solos on there didn't realise they were all lifted (I swear the final solo on hit the lights was someone else)
@@chrishopkins5651Lloyd Grant. Kirk also changed all Dave's solos they aren't the same
@@deletedhero5579 I know I remember seeing dave somewhere talking about it
"I said just don't take my solos...and they took my solos "
I personally would swap out One with Shortest Straw, Sanitarium with Disposable Heroes, Day that Never Comes with Unforgiven 3
Frayeds end of sanity is my fav solo from justice
I got a chub
Unpopular opinion but murder one is my favorite solo from hardwire to self destruct, it has some odd charm to it!
3:32 That`s just straightup insulting
For me:
Kill ‘Em All - Best: First Four Horseman solo Worst: Motorbreath
Ride The Lightning - Best: Ride The Lightning Worst: Escape
Master of Puppets - Best: Damage Inc Worst: Leper Messiah
And Justice For All - Best: One Worst: Eye of The Beholder
The Black Album -
Best: Wherever I May Roam Worst: Don’t Tread On Me
Load - Best: The Outlaw Torn first solo Worst: The House That Jack Built
Reload - Best: Fuel Worst: Slither
Death Magnetic - Best: The Day That Never Comes Worst: The End Of The Line
Hardwired…To Self Destruct - Best: Spit Out The Bone Worst: Confusion
72 Seasons - Best: 72 Seasons Worst: If Darkness Had A Son
the four horsemens first solo is the only solo on KEA that Kirk wrote
1. My favorite solo on Death Magnetic is That Was Just Your Life.
2. 100% agree about The Struggle Within solo.
3. The riff James plays under The Frayed Ends of Sanity solo is more interesting than the actual solo.
Stay safe & fvck Putin 🤘
Lol yeah, that Frayed riff is awesome. In fact, it’s borderline solo for it’s constant variations and stuff
I have to disagree. Whilst his solos on 72 seasons aren’t his careers beat, there still are some great leads like on the title track or room of mirrors for example
I love all Metallica solos kkkk
Why Fade instead of RTL's Title track?
It’s a day ending in Y: another day for Andrey to call thrash metal “trash metal” and spew out the most pedestrian opinions ever.
For me, The Outlaw Torn is 12/10😊
And Blackened for me is also 10/10
In my opinion, the last solo on Inamorata is the best one on the album. 9/10, maybe even a 10/10
personally, I believe the Dyer's Eve deserved #1 but both are perfect
Just heard Britney Spears AI version of nothing else matters. Still in shock
I must be the only fan of the End of the Line soko
Enter Sandman's solo is literally the first solo I've relistened over and over again, why weakest lol...
(well, actually maybe the first one was free bird solo)
I'm no musician or musical expert but I would say in terms of how the actual Solo works in movement within the song. Like does it flow well along with the rest of the song? Does the lead up the actual solo pay off?
Or it could be in terms in general. Since Kirk's style has always been the Wah Pedal style of playing Guitar. That could also play a factor in the rating
-Plus the actual solos here are more than likely ranked from a actual scale of how a musician would rank them...like how you said the Sandman Solo is your most replayed so, I would assume you enjoy it
But I would also assume that you don't play guitar (Again just making neutral assumptions. So correct me if I'm wrong), but I'm just saying that maybe a musician (who's at least an intermediate level or around advanced) would rank the actual solos differently...as compared to somebody like me, who doesn't know the first thing to playing a guitar at all lol-
Wait, what’s the deal with kill ‘em all?
All the solos are Mustaine's
"Mustaine wrote all solos" stuff
Just probably trying to keep the Mustaine fanboys from losing there mindseven though the solos are different
Escape😢😢😢
i saw a video of kirk's worst solos once, even the comment said they were bad.
basically all of them were from new albums (DM-72), but i liked all of them, i dont understand the hate at all, i think he still makes great solos.
Id probably pick wherever i may roam for black album honestly. To me that song is the one. For MOP definitely disposable heroes. Aside from that solid list.
Even the weakest solo on Master of Puppets sound epics and badass
Blackened is my favorite Kirk solo. SACRILEGE!!!
Best kirk solo imo is The Shortest Straw
iryo but The End of the Line solo is worse than Room of Mirrors
honestly? just my opinion but the inamorata solo(s) are priceless
Am I tripping or are the weak and strong sides reversed? Solos with higher score go to the weak side while the ones with lower scores go to the strong side
On master of puppets it should be disposable heroes, that is one if not the best metallica solo
Unforgiven 3 solo not best on DM?
I still have to watch the video but inamorata has got two good solos, the second very goos
Kirk’s best solo is on Dyers Eve
No
yes@@kremit6361
Personally I think Shadow Follows is his best solo on AJFA.
Coincidentally(?) the weakest 72 song is the one with the weakest solo(IDHAS) and the best one is the one with the strongest solo(ROM).
room of mirrors is not the best song ☠️
it is@@thelilpeanutdotgov
kirk why is only one of your arms ripped??
cuz one is weak (as in weak solos) and the other is strong (as in strong solos)

As annoying as sandman CAN be, that solo is so good
Gonna be honest and say Darkness' solo is better than the End of the Line or the ManUNkind solo but that's just me
Honestly I still love pretty much all his solos, he's so expressive and it's always something new, it's nice to hear something so fresh from one of the original shredders
Yes, Fade to Black is great. But Creeping Death is also a 10, and gotta be rated higher because of the melt your faceness of it. You could say its rating goes to 11.
I'll see myself out immediately..
judas kiss has the best solos on death megnetic
No way you put frayed ends of sanity as the worst. Its one of the best solos made by kirk
Nah i agree with him.its kinda the worst.Even beholder sounds better
enter sandman solo? the weakest🤯🤯
NO WAYY
Andriy hates sandman, so it was expected, even a low 6/10 rating, but is his opinion.
If you ask me, (you´re not, but i will answer anyway), Sandman is a fantastic solo, is really well phrased and imo Kirks´best wah solo. TechniQue wise is also harder to play than must of the Black Album solos. Not saying is the best on that album but definetly really good.
i dont understand why u gave enter sandman solo a 6. i just dont
Which solos are weak on 72? All, all is the answer.
I thought inamorata had the best solo on 72 seasons and IDHAS had the weakest. And overall best in their career was One.
Come on, Harvester of Sorrow had the weakest solo on AJFA. Kirk had no idea what to do with it and it shows.
Oof, imo Fuel is totally overrated here, otherwise kinda agree. I'd rate 72S solos a bit higher though. Also Spit is at least a 9
I'm surprised that you put Enter Sandman as the weakest one on the black album. I personally hate the My Friend of Misery solo, one of my least favorite solos ever
Frayed ends of sanity as the weakest?!?!?! hard disagree, First off that solo rips, the weakest from AJFA is Harvester or Sorrow. That solo was an afterthought and you can't convince me otherwise.
Unpopular opinion but I think Battery has the weakest solo on Master of Puppets, the beginning is just so random and definitely doesn't fit the epic bridge, always leaves me disappointed.
When it comes to Ride the Lightning, Creeping Death or Fight Fire with Fire are definitely the strongest.
you have the thing flip flopped. the strong solos are on the weak side and the weak solos are on the strong side😂
Frayed Ends of Sanity was an amazing song. Only marred by a shit solo.
Regress after black album but death magnetic have some good moments. Rest of is the same bla bla bla wah wah - nothing special just random pentatonic notes.
Ajfa weakest is harvester of sorrow
He lost his talent when he stopped smoking weed...😱😱😱 I hate to say that, I hate when people say that kind of shit!!! Joke aside...when he's in the studio with Lars and Greg Fidelman, something's wrong...🙄 I m not a fan of their work anyway...producing a record is all about making choices...what can I say? I m just a die hard fan who can't accept everything because it's my favorite band...solos are not inspired, that's reality
