      The thing about that opening scene at the beach is that, according to LegalEagle's analysis of Captain Marvel, Jonny would have been convicted of battery. And you'd have to be ignorant of the rules of soccer to make the argument that was made in the video. Going for the ball is okay. Going for the legs like Johnny did, is not. It's at the very least a penalty, if not a cardable offence. Danny certainly overreacted, but given everything that lead up to that, it's not unjustified.

      This video went viral when it was made many years ago. I have to believe it influenced Cobra Kai as you even hear references to “Daniel was a bully” in the show. Whoever wrote this should’ve been an attorney 😂. I enjoy your videos. Karate Kid was such a huge part of my childhood and though martial arts was never an interest of mine, it’s impossible to overstate how influential the original movie was to American kids in the 80s.

      I see it differently. Johnny's verbal aggression and threatened posture, and grabbing the radio and throwing it is a show of aggression. You can tell Daniel is concerned it may escalate into him hitting her, so he comes in to try and calm the situation. He wasn't going to be able to, but he didn't know that. Funny how Johnny's shove to the ground, the first aggressor, is just an oopsie but Daniel is just declared pure evil lol. Johnny smiled when Daniel came in to the dojo, Daniel was just looking to learn some self defense. He could have talked to Daniel after, but Johnny only knew how to handle situations aggressively, thus why he threw Allie's radio, a usual pre-sign of an someone on the verge of becoming an abuser. Gangs up on him with all friends instead of making a truce. Daniel was wrong to hose Johnny, but at that point he'd been bullied and humiliated by Johnny's gang and teens act out in anger in those situations. Then the 5 ganged up and even when Johnny's friend said he'd had enough, he continues to pummel him, no honor in 5 against 1. Miyagi had to jump in to protect Daniel, when you got 5 teens attacking you, kind of need to defend yourself so he did. I think the narrator did this for clinks, thought it would be interesting to look at it from 'Johnny's perspective', neither are really bad, they're just teens that don't know how to work things out.

    This video was indeed hilarious! It illustrates how anything can be re-framed and manipulated to appear to be something totally different. That's why it's so important to consider the context - the entire movie in this case. I do admit that Daniel can be a bit of a jerk at times. And Johnny is definitely a product of his upbringing, environment and his experiences - as we all are.

      You know what else could kill somebody? A person with a baaad attitude that learns karate. It’d be like a person that bought a gun after losing a fight that they started/instigated.
      That type of violence will not be tolerated.

      @@lareh5501 Except that's not at all what happened.. since Johnny's bad attitude instigated that fight (AFTER ASSAULTING HIS EX and destruction of property mind you) while Daniel tried to calm things down, he was assaulted for his efforts.. and then he assaults his Ex again... (pushing her into his group of friends who then RESTRAIN HER.. which is false imprisonment), it's at THAT point.. Daniel decides to defend himself and others.. from Johnny and his gang.
      If a Cop witnessed any of this. Johnny and his gang would of been arrested (for assault and battery and possibly false imprisonment).. and Daniel would of been seen as defending himself and attempting to defend Ali.
      The NEXT DAY, he's assaulted by Johnny and his gang again, then goes to Lunch finds out Ali use to date Johnny.. and then Johnny instigates yet another fight by placing a pie underneath Daniel.
      Johnny continues to bully him, and it's after Daniel's eye is all healed.. that he GOES to check out the Karate place.
      That's when they respond with the bikes.. so it's not at all like buying a gun after losing a fight that they started/instigated.. it's like someone trying to take self-defense classes after being assaulted and bullied by a serial abuser/assaulter/degenerate who crossed SEVERAL serious lines before Daniel tried to get self-defense classes.
      If you'd like I could go on, because Daniel only instigated once with water during Halloween after months of being abused/assaulted.. and something people love to conveniently ignore when considering Daniel's side or Johnny's side.. is Ali's side.. and not only was she assaulted, and her property was destroyed.. but Johnny also sexually assaults her (after forcing her to dance with him).. and she screams at him to never do that again.. and despite all this.. people wanna pretend this ABUSIVE EX BOYFRIEND is physically, emotionally and sexually abusive, manipulative and controlling, towards both his Ex and any boy she decides to talk to.. is somehow the secret hero, and Daniel was his bully.
      Yea, that makes sense.. Johnny displays several Sociopathic tendencies, and does try to actually kill Daniel.. even when some of his own friends realize he's going too far.
      Daniel never once tries to kill Johnny.. while comes close to death twice.
      If my ex-boyfriend behaved like Johnny.. I'd call the cops.. and get a restraining order.. for this psychotic guy..

      @@goldcakes Um, you're not allowed to just rip something you don't own from someone else's hands.. I don't know where you live.. but that is a crime.. "The law defines assault and battery as an unwanted touching that is done in a rude or angry manner. It can be as simple as shoving someone, blocking their way, spitting on them, grabbing someone’s arm, throwing something (liquid or otherwise) at them, or even grabbing something out of their hand".. Then the whole "You just broke my radio" came before Daniel intervened.. and he did try to de-escalate saying "Come on Man, what's going on?" this could not be interpreted by anyone as ESCALATION (Supreme court has ruled on this).. and since Johnny had already assaulted Ali and broke her radio.. it has become IN THE DEFENSE OF OTHERS/SELF DEFENSE.. Since Johnny had already escalated to physical violence/assault (by 4 counts btw 2 for Ali and 2 for Daniel).
      Before Daniel resorted to any attempt to fight back.
      Now most Cops might of just given a Johnny a warning for grabbing her Radio, and maybe after he damaged it.. but at the point Daniel charges Johnny.. he assaults Ali a 3rd time (shoving her into his friends who physically restrains her) which become False Imprisonment... and the entire Gang would be going to Jail and Daniel and Ali would be asked if they want to press charges and give statements.

    As a kid I thought Daniel was being picked on for no real reason. As I got older I slowly realized his flaws. When I heard about Cobra Kai, I binged the first movie and realized 1. Daniel shouldn't have involved himself in the first case. Ali showed no signs of fear or panic. Sure she was pissed off at Johnny, but that was all. Two the cobras were assholes, that is true but traditional bullies? Nope, they were actually well respected by everyone.
    Two, again the night of the Halloween dance, they left Daniel alone, so he should've taken that as a blessing and continued on dancing with Ali.
    Those were my observations from before Cobra Kai. I love both characters for their strengths and flaws. Yes they are both jerks....yet they have their good sides.

    • @Vynjira-chan
      @Vynjira-chan Рік тому +1

      Yikes at this comment, the Ali and Johnny confrontation had become physical before Daniel got involved..
      Also, no, they weren't Traditional Bullies, they were fairly extreme bullies even for the time.
      Johnny commits several crimes that should of gotten him jail time, while Daniel sprayed water on Johnny on Halloween? at a Party where kids where being egged...
      Daniel's Harmless Prank (water hose on Halloween) vs 2 attempts on Daniel's life, fairly consistent physical bullying for months, as well as threat and intimidation, false imprisonment on Ali (on the Beach) and on Daniel (with an intent to kill Daniel) Assault and Battery on Daniel and Ali.. Sexual Assault on Ali..
      Johnny wasn't just an asshole, he was sociopathic..
      Daniel might of been a bit hot headed but at no point does he come even close to the Sociopathy on full display by Johnny until literally the last couple of seconds in the film.

    • @Vynjira-chan
      @Vynjira-chan 2 місяці тому

      @Neo_Vandole 'Daniel attacked people.'
      Johnny literally assaults Ali before Daniel even gets involved.. Breaking her Radio (Destruction of Property) also before Daniel approaches. Before he is assaulted by Johnny (still having done nothing to Johnny).
      When Daniel if getting up he doesn't just Assault Ali again.. he physically restrains her with his Gang of Friends which is an Unlawful Restraint or False Imprisonment charge.. by the time Daniel resorts to Force.
      While you want to sit there and say Daniel attacked with "Full Force" and an "Intent to hurt them" this was after multiple Assault and Batteries, Destruction of Property and an Unlawful Restraint/False Imprisonment by Johnny..
      Which means his actions fell under Self Defense "An individual has the legal right to use reasonable force to defend another person who is the victim (or about to be the victim) of an assault."
      So Johnny did not "only use Force to Defend himself" that was Daniel from the start.
      _____
      Then Johnny and his gang surround Daniel on their Motorbikes and drive him off the Road off a hill.
      This act, is easily any number of Aggravated Assault charges "Aggravated assault is a violent crime that occurs when someone intentionally injures another person, usually with a weapon or another means that could cause serious bodily harm or death."
      The motorbike could actually be considered a Deadly Weapon. Which could also be an Attempted Murder charge on top of that.. and since we saw with him Conspiring with his Gang of friends in the planned attack.. we have Intent to use Deadly Force at the very least would be considered Reckless and Dangerous with Conspiracy Charges..
      Daniel did nothing under the law which would provocate this attack, and it was completely reasonable for him to seek training for Self-Defense after being assaulted previously. (leaving Daniel with a number of visible injuries)
      _______
      Would you like me to continue? because it only goes down hill from here.. with him SA'ing Ali and Attempted Murder charges for Halloween.
      ___
      'What is understandable in that age and considering the circumstances (the conflict was going on for month, Daniel was hitting on his girl).'
      Having been alive in the 80s, I can tell you that was not understandable behavior.
      In fact, it was so understood in the 80s.. that a movie made in the 80s literally portrayed Johnny as the Villain throughout the entire movie.. and everyone at the time understood that.
      Everyone in the 80s watching that movie seeing Johnny as the Villain and an Abusive Ex. Not Daniel "hitting on his girl". The movie made it clear they had broken up. Johnny's refusal to accept this.. was literally stated by his own friends in his first minute on screen:
      'Hey Johnny, forget it man, it's Ancient History.'
      "Hey Man, I thought they broke up."
      'She did, he didn't.'
      AKA, that wasn't his girl and in the 80s.. everyone in the Audience recognized it.
      Stop trying to revise history to this distorted and delusional narrative.

Johnny’s choreography is easily a close 3rd best in the series behind terry silver and Daryl, and he’s not far behind them at all. He’s athletic as hell, that kip up was actually smooth as hell. Plus the commentary is obviously trying to lead whoever (watched this vid) to their belief that Daniel was the real bully. Both Johnny and Daniel went back and forth messing with each other.

      Yes, but the video is satire. The point is that the Karate Kid films do exactly the same, but from Daniel's point of view. So the inverted perspective shows that in reality the story is about some kids who are taking turns being aggressive/defending themselves. It's not just one side being evil and the other side being good.

So the examples of Daniel being an aggressive POS aren't real? If a dog bit you, would you return several months later and kick that dog knowing you will get bit again? The beach scene shows how your "hot head" description leads to Daniel lacking control of violent impulses. Was Daniel "the bully", not in a traditional sense of the word, was he a short tempered, frustrated narcissistic punk, absolutely. He even got aggressive with Allie after spying on her at the formal country club dance. He is a jerk off, and it's reiterated in the TV series.

    When Johnny threw Ali's 'ghetto blaster' radio on the ground, Daniel probably thought it was a bigger deal than she did due to her family being wealthy compared to Daniel and his mom. I'm sure Ali could have gone out the next day and bought the latest model of Sony or Panasonic ghetto blaster on her dad's Visa (or Amex Platinum) card without even having to explain why, while for Daniel it might have been the equivalent of a once-a-year Christmas present that he couldn't easily replace if he broke it. It's fun but makes it seem one to one issue when Daniel had to deal with all of Cobra Kai. One to one problem okay five to one problem to much ask any one. I never took this video seriously, it was just satire and it didn't change my mind about the characters in the movie. Johnny and his friends bullied Daniel, even though Daniel wasn't a saint himself and was not 100% innocent, he was just mainly trying to survive school and avoid the Cobra Kais. In the series, I always saw flaws in both characters, and even though Daniel is no saint, Johnny is usually more immature of the two, but they both can be hot-headed, impulsive and childish at times. Daniel can be quite self-righteous at times, but Johnny can be self-destructive and bring chaos around him. I think they both played a role in their friction and falling out throughout the seasons.

    • @PhilipZeplinDK
      @PhilipZeplinDK 2 роки тому +1

      The writers messed up a little with Daniel, in that he is the one who keeps the situation escalating several times. For instance with the school dance, where, as far as we know, it's all over and done with by then - then he restarts it all by hosing the dude, and creates a car crash as he runs out. It's difficult to complain about getting bullied, when you directly antagonize and act provocatively towards your bullies, and you yourself keep the situation going.
      I mean this is all super over analyzing, the movie was never meant to be understood or looked at this way, so in a way it's silly even discussing it.
      But it's a little interesting that a film like Karate Kid, unintentionally ended up being a brilliant example of how reality is often a subjective experience, and the same reality can be viewed completely differently by different people.
      In the series, the way Johnny recalls everything, is actually also how humans tend to remember. See, you don't remember anything anymore. You remember memories of memories. Each time you remember something, that memory essentially replaces the original one. That means that each time you accidentally add little incorrect details to your memory, your brain will generally add those onto the memory by default the next time you think of it. Over time, this can largely warp how we remember our past experiences, versus how they actually transpired.

    Ever since the Beach incident, he’s been avoiding Johnny and his Cobra Kai boys every time he sees them, but they showed up, saw him minding his own business, and then messed around with him, and yeah, Daniel got aggressive, but because he’s a hothead, and he’s sick of them picking on him, cause he really didn’t do anything to them, especially to Johnny, and Johnny didn’t even Know Daniel.
    In fact, Johnny isn’t the Real Bully either, even though he and his boys bullied Daniel since he came to LA. But he was wrong to get jealous of a new kid that he barely knew talking with his EX Girlfriend, then treats him like a threat, and also get too riled up over his water hose prank, and nearly trying to kill him. Its a hilarious video, but Johnny was 100% the instigator. The way he treated Ali was completely wrong, even for the 80s. Daniel was hardly bad for sticking up for Ali and Johnny very clearly intended to push Daniel over with the radio. Sure, Daniel could have remained calm and walked away, but retaliating is not the same as starting the fight and Johnny clearly started it. As for running Daniel off the road later on, there's no justification for that. He could have been seriously injured or killed. Irresponsible doesn't even cover it.
    Daniel's biggest mistake was hosing Johnny at the dance, as it was unprovoked revenge. But again, this doesn't mean Daniel started this rivalry or that he was really the bully.

    I'm pretty sure the video started as a joke. A lot of it is what we would term in English "tongue-in-cheek". Note that they leave out anything that would look particularly bad to Johnny, like the country-club (restaurant) scene. It's fun to switch the perspective. The original movie clearly portrays the characters such that those of us growing up in the same timeframe would undeniably interpret as: Johnny is an entitled bully (who has a little gang of enforcers), Daniel is the (admittedly hot-headed) new kid who runs afoul of Johnny & his gang. Take it from someone who was bullied in Jr. High School by a bully with a little gang of friends & cousins that this was obvious and very, very relatable. This funny video appeared and then a bunch of people started taking it very seriously. Daniel's quick temper and overall immaturity is his character flaw. Even a hero needs a character flaw lest he become boring. It is our flaws that make us human; and make characters relatable. The original film was told from Daniel's perspective, so we knew nothing of what drove Johnny, other than his popularity, desire for Allie, and Kreese's militaristic training. But we do see at the end that Johnny has a good side to him--he wants to do the right thing, but is himself immature and had the wrong kind of guidance around him. Ultimately, I like this video because it is probably what actually spawned Cobra Kai the TV show to kick off. I love the show because it explores Johnny's side of the story much more. Though I have a complaint that I don't think they treated Daniel's character very gracefully--he essentially hasn't matured AT ALL despite having Mr. Miyagi to guide him for many years. It's easy to use his flaws to move the show along, but it seems unrealistic that he has had so little growth.

      Johhny was a pretty bad peeson in karate Kid though. He was definitely a bully. "Daniel added fuel to the fire by reciprocating punches" as opposed to just standing there and allowing Johnny to beat him up? I mean DUH, he had the right to defend himself.

    If you remember, Daniel kicks open a gate door, knocking down a kid. Then, he brags that he is learning karate, which is false. He hadn’t met Mr Miyagi yet. Proof lol.

    released prerelease screenshots reveal season 6 part 2 reveals there'll be 2 Cobra Kais: Johnny's American Cobra Kai and Kreese's Korean Cobra Kai: at the sekai taikai so the final teams are Anthony as male captain, Sam as female captain, Devon as 3rd fighter, Kenny as 4th fighter, Hawk as 5th fighter, and Demetrius as 6th fighter for American MiYagi-Do, Robby as male captain, (probably Tory as female captain,) Miguel as 3rd fighter, hopefully Aisha as 4th fighter, probably Chris as 5th fighter, and probably Mitch as 6th fighter for American Cobra Kai, and Kwon, some other blond, and 4 others whose names I don't know for Korean Cobra Kai.

    This video should be called The Karate Kid Story as told by CNN. This is a perfect example of how information can be manipulated in an attempt to persuade people. It's true that you can find good and bad in both characters but we all know that this is a humorous distortion of what really happened. Well done!

    Although that video was meant as satire, I do feel like a lot of the events in the film could have been avoided if Daniel had simply backed off instead of getting riled and attacking people... and he's the same in Cobra Kai. Johnny is merely trying to make a living as a karate instructor because it's the only thing he's good at, but Daniel is apparently unable to put the past behind him after 30 years and tries everything he can to undermine his business even though he has everything and Johnny has nothing... yeah, Daniel is a dick. Change my mind!

    • @SavageGerbil
      @SavageGerbil 2 роки тому +1

      Daniel was absolutely a dick in the first season. They're both flawed in the same ways, though.
      It's interesting when you think about it, it kind of pulls a 180 when you compare the first film to the show. In school, Johnny had the power. He was strong, had the friends, the training, and as a result his aggression was more effective.
      In the show, Daniel has the power, in the form of money and connections, so his aggression is more effective. The dick on the billboard was Johnny's garden hose, and the doubling of rent was Daniel's alternative to handing out an ass beating.

    Daniel and Johnny are both boys struggling to become men in the absence of positive men to learn from. Daniel was lucky and found someone willing to put up with his idiocy long enough to teach him strength of character. Kreese was cashing checks and making soldiers. Johnny was never cut out to be a soldier.

    This is why the first movie was the best one TBH. You had Johnny who was a good kid we became hot and tempered by Cobra Kai. While you have Daniel who is hot and tempered becoming cooled down by Myiagi. Could you imagine if they had it reversed and Daniel started in Cobra Kai and Johnny went to Myiagi.

    It’s funny. I think the person who made the video has a very warped view of Karate Kid but it’s intentional for comedy. Like obviously Johnny and his five friends didn’t need to chase Daniel down and pull Daniel down off the fence. Mr Miagi is not a “child batterer” lmao
