He wasn't the bad guy but he wasn't always the good guy either and he is NOT innocent. The true bad guy is John Kreese and Terry Silver isn't far behind. Yes David (Kreese's bully), the Captain in the war, and Sensei Kim are all evil too but how Kreese and Silver acted and continue to act are true testaments as to how evil they are. Johnny, Chozen, and Mike Barnes have fought hard to right their wrongs of the past. Danny boy is SO ARROGANT with his holier than though attitude these days. I hope he learns a thing or two in the end and stays on top in a more humble way.

@@Pete_Finch I appreciate the kind words. Glad to hear things are going better for you. I imagine having a background in science and history might make it difficult for you to think about how Jesus Christ would fit in with all of that. But I would say, don't dismiss Him without looking into it for yourself. I have friends with doctorates in the science fields, with backgrounds in biology and chemistry who would be the first to tell anyone how Jesus Christ has changed their lives. As for me, I was very much a skeptic and a cynic when it came to religion. I saw the hypocrisies and it turned me off. But Jesus Christ is not about religion; He's about having a relationship with us. I would encourage you to take some time to study the Gospels and the New Testament and ask the Lord to show you if He's real. If you are willing to do it with sincerity and humility, He will make Himself real to you. And I'll tell you this - once you have an encounter with Jesus Christ, all the doubt and the skepticism just melts away. He is willing to make Himself real to all who seek to know if He is real. And He'll do that for you.

I’m sorry, but the people who’s mantra is “No Mercy” are most likely the bad guys. This show completely cuts out the growth that occurred at the end of Karate Kid. All for the Kobra Kai kids turned their back on Kobra Kai when they realized how dishonorable and toxic it was. Remember when they all bowed to Mr. Miyagi and JOHNNY hands DANNY the trophy? The movie already showed that they had found a mutual respect for each other. That was the whole point. It didn’t matter who won or lost. They settled everything by giving their all on the mat. This series completely regresses both Johnny and Danny 8n the worst ways.

@@andrewmiller3055 No; even with Kreese, they explain the origin of his behavior and his perspective. Despite at least one character (can't remember which. Larusso's wife, maybe?) saying he's a sociopath, they clearly explain how he lost his path due to PTSD from 'nam. Its clear he's an antagonist, but he's not blatantly evil. You could argue for a lot of the things he says, and we also might do well to remember that some of the lessons Johnny teaches due ultimately source themselves from Kreese.
Kreese is fucked up and there's nothing to be done for it, but that doesn't mean there isn't a reason for his behavior. Kreese in this show is a good example of why sociopaths generally make shitty characters, no matter if you cast them as villains as heroes... You want depth to a character. Also, in season 3, when they were defending the tournament and all that, they (almost/in a way) showed Kreese, Danny, and Johnny as almost equal ideologies the way they cut between their speeches and showed them in the... whatever you call that anime/comic thing where you show a shot of one person in one location next to shots of other people in other locations.
Kreese is wrong, but he's not completely wrong; in a war, you might have to make tough choices and you do want the best of the best and to win at all costs, more or less. Compare that to villains that just want power/whatever and come off conceited. Some villains aren't even enjoyable to think about, and people act like having an annoying villain is somehow a good thing, like that bitch in GOT who tore the letter from the king into pieces, but I guess not everyone agrees with me on that one. Still, he's not blatantly evil.

I think a lot of you guys are missing the point. Of course Johnny's side of the story makes him look like the good guy. This feels very true to life. Most people only have selective memories, not to mention, our own perspectives where we usually view ourselves favorably. Add to that the fact that Johnny is recalling memories from 34 years ago whereas we're nitpicking after probably watching The Karate Kid within the past couple of years. Of course he's going to remember things wrong.
And don't forget that Daniel, too, selectively edits his story to make himself like purely the victim. He doesn't mention turning the hose on Johnny or taunting him and his friends on campus. He exaggerates being pushed down a hill to being pushed down a "cliff". This is not to say Daniel is the "bully" or a bad guy. Neither one of them is truly a bad guy. They're both human. 1. Arrogant and selfish Mother larusso who moved danny away from his home, friends and family without consulting him properly
      2. Freddy fernandez and his so called buddies who actually encouraged the beach conflict then when he lost his neighbor and friends treated him like a crab - what a bunch of posers and hypocrites

He just doesn't hasn't learned "perspective" and "empathy" and that colours the memories a bit. He's the rocket straight from the 80's.
You must remember that Johnny is a loner. He was taught by dubious father figures and a friendship circle just like him, so he was in an echo-chamber all throughout his teen and adult life. After that, he went through life alone- never really learning anything other than how he was brought up.
He remained a 16 yeard old kid, UNTIL Miguel walked into his life and he got the first real introduction to what life is like or look like, from people who have been brought up differently. This opens up a whole new phase of learning as Miguel causes him to be more and more exposed to things, people and viewpoints he never really encountered or experienced- and that's what changes him. He finally grows up and goes past 16.

Probably my favorite scene of both seasons. I just love the background song in this scene and you can feel the heartbreaking nostalgia of Johnny and how his life before Karate Kid began was the peak of his life. Cobra Kai has been a great show overall but I really hope in Season three they don't go way Hollywood and cheesy like I kind of feel in Season 2. Season 2 was nice but for me it felt like they are going way too dramatic and also going off Johnny's story path for my opinion. I still love it, but just thinking with the show coming back to Netflix and rewatching scenes, that the show's strength is in Johnny's story arc and path. I just hope they don't focus too much on that Miyagi Do and that love triangle shit. The show's action scenes were always a bit over-the-top, even in Season one, but I just hope they don't have to do a full-blown Hollywood fight scene like the last episode. But still a great show and hope they keep everything in place.

many people would argue with his legal right to defend himself but, I will not argue with that part of the youtube video, daniel is the real bully in the karate kid - just like danny had the legal right to defend himself after being shoved violently with the radio johnny had the right to keep the fight going though, de esculating the situation by leaving the scene entirely which was false as johnny was frustrated and heart broken and achieved his goals besides, how worse could he have made it - danny was already on the sand and wasn't getting back up.
Johnny sure must have been angry when he saw danny again at the high school so johnny decided to get Danny booted off the soccer team using familiarity tactics - oh what a great bloke johnny was

This just shows how people don’t share the full story to things, he literally leaves out all the parts where he was pretty much a bully or an asshole, and I’m sure he really did intend to just have a “civil conversation” but that’s not how it went down when he went to chat with her and he ofcourse left that out..and he also left out how he rode him off a hill and left out how John was no longer with the girl and that Daniel didn’t even know John existed that night on the beach..it’s things like this that should’ve been mentioned but he had a narrative to support so

Even though Johnny was one of the bad guys in the 1980's, the two saddest parts of the whole thing is that Johnny was being manipulated by Kreese and both Johnny and Daniel loved Allie even though it was all for nothing. I would not be surprised if Allie becomes another villain later on.

The one constantly messing things up is Sam. Tori tried and tried again to make thing chill and civil, and Sam just out here blaming her for everything bad, and was just “Sorry Miguel, gotta hurt you for something I’m going through” woman, normal won’t exist for a while, and yeah.

Well let’s see, he bullied a kid in high school, he beat up minors, I understand the minors that he beat up were jerks but it is still a crime, he beats up one of Daniel’s employees in public, he abandoned his kid (Robby) when he was birthed, and he reopened cobra Kai to teach a kid karate not because he actually wanted to teach karate, but because he couldn’t stand the thought of his high school rival (Daniel) being more successful than him, that is extremely petty of him. He also acted like a jerk when his high school rival, the guy he bullied, decides to do a nice gesture and fix his car FOR FREE. Do I have to go on or did that answer your question?
Look, as I said, in the later seasons, he acknowledged his faults and became a better man, if you were to ask me if men should strive to be like Johnny Lawrence from the later seasons then sure, however, overall, you shouldn’t do some of these things that Johnny has done.
