Awesome! It's exciting to see the shape of Linda's new interior emerge. I love your music choices. The outro with the chunky percussion and drone footage is super nice. Good work, Canice!
Nice one Canice, agree with previous viewer re the jolly tune, we actually’Shazamed’ it, it reminds us of the carry on films, - Carry on canaling 👍🏻 always a pleasure, Joe & Georgie ⚓️🌹
Maybe Sea Captain is right, you should be living in a padded cell ! Personally we here in France think your hard work is paying off. Excellent progress. May we also say, your tools are high class and very impressive. Brilliant 🤩
As I was filming this it was getting to freezing, but now it is back to grey and boring again. Hard to know what’s coming in terms of global trends, because El Niño might throw a bit of excitement our way this year. Most of Northern Europe is snowing at the moment. ☃️
It is a very nice finish and colour. However, because of my filthy gloves there are black marks all over it… 😂😂😂 It is a massive improvement… It’s starting to be a nice space to spend time in! I feel a little claustrophobic when I return to Jorja….
The padded ceiling looks like a real comfy quilt. Shame it’s on the ceiling lol. Seriously, looks good and homey. The padded cell is so “in” this year😂
You see, in future people will think I’m a genius when there are no instances of cranial failure as a result of the extensive padding.. It’s a fine line between genius and madness!😂😂😂
Canice a quick tip to make dead straight router cuts every time, get a piece of Square thin ply ( or Perspex ) the same width as your router face plate and screw it to the plate so you have a 90 degree edge to the blade then just use a clamp or something straight near where you want to cut as a the guide and Bosh ! You have dead straight cuts every time. 🙂
This saves me so much time reading the instructions!😂 Thank you. As you saw I just got straight to it an butchered my way through it. I was thinking the other bits in the box are needed for something! 😂😂😂
I was so saying the same thing the Capt was.. I was wondering where the straight jacket got off to... Looks nice though Canice. Good idea all around with that fabric.
Cheap solution to insuring the work can continue in comfort over the winter. Also, there are so many things I’ve bought ages ago that I need to use up to creat more space!😂😂
You certainly got a lot of work done between the tours. Loved seeing the wood stove burning. I watched this while eating pretzels with my wood stove blasting away. The ceiling looks like a tufted mattress. Good use of the fabric. Maybe you can use some of it for curtains 🤔 I already know the answer to that. 🤣😂 Just having that one section done makes Linda look so much more like a home. So nostalgic revisiting your first weld! 🔥 Was that before or after you started wearing protective gear.? Have fun on the tours and stay warm. 😊🤗 Kathy
How dare you insinuate that I would change the curtains!😂😂😂😂 I’ve been ruthless on my time keeping and making sure I’m on top of exercise, food and rest. So far so good. Admittedly I’ve no social life but it can wait until the new year. My mission is to get a video out every weekend. Then fly out to see the folks in Tenerife. 😀
@@canicebannon The Curtains!!!! The bane of my existence 🤣😂😅 I am glad you are taking care of yourself, even with your hectic schedule. I hope you do a video of your trip to Tenerife, nothing better a Bannon family video where your dad and brother plot your demise 😱 Linda will become the center of the London social scene when she is finished! Everyone will want to gather around your new sink, AND the Baby Blake 🚽 ☺️ My mother, bless her, is now 106 & 8 months old, along with my dog, take up my time. I look forward to more videos……but don’t burn yourself out, and I don’t mean with your welding. Have a good week Canice! 😊🤗 Kathy
It's looking very nice! I am afraid the insulation material that you use is not absorbing moisture and will be very wet after living or cooking aboard. I recommend pure sheep wool. That material will absorb moisture and still keep insulating. But on the horizontal parts you will have to use some other material to prevent drops hanging onto the ceiling en organizing rust. I recommend amarflex, the self sticking kind. That combines very good with sheep wool or even with your synthetic wool. A damp tight layer will not work on a boat, to many apertures.
It would be interesting to know how effective the new insulation is. Do you have any way of knowing that? Perhaps the sea captain could volunteer to stand on the roof to feel how much heat is coming through. And an earlier comment raises a good point, a moisture barrier would probably work wonders keeping the insulation dry. Here in USA! USA! USA! builders use a wrap (trade name Tyvek) for that purpose. You could use it to replace the calico, and then put the panels over that.
Vapour barrier is expensive. And I do plan to use it… however in the short term I just want to use up materials in the boat and clear the floor. Also the calico will cut into to put in ventilation and I don’t want to do that to an expensive vapour barrier…. You can see frost disappear off the roof the minute I light the fire where in Jorja that’s not the case. You got me thinking, next time I light the fire there should be an obvious difference between the two parts of the roof. Of course it won’t get frosty again!😂😂😂
Loving it ! That looks toasty and warm already ! Are you going to leave the calico in when you board the ceiling up? Nice to see the sea captain being his vile usual self ! X
I may put in a plastic/membrane over it, before I put the wood up! I’ll probably leave it in place. But I know that I will be cutting into it in the future to add ventilation….. it’s just there to keep the insulation in place for now….😀
I dunno. Though the Cap'n thinks you're a feckin' idjit, you do seem to somehow get the job done. Some very creative, but apparently sound thinking and problem solving goes on there. Myself, I'd probably have a bit too much Irish cream and whiskey on hand and on board. For sure, I'd get the job done eventually, but with a huge amount of caution and overthinking. You definitely have a different approach to the whole problem of renovation, when compared to, say, "The Narrowboat That James Built," and your approach to life might make for an interesting interview on Chris Mears' channel "Narrowboat in Slow Time." Possibly the best interview of all time would be Chris Mears interviewing the Sea Captain. That could be comedy gold.
Hi Peter! It’s a good point you make about my approach to renovation. I do wonder myself at times. I think the key is that I’m doing this work within the limitations of being off grid and limited funds. The calico is so much cheaper than the wood I’ll need, but (I’m only telling you this) remember the oak panels? They are going into the roof once I figure out how I’m doing that….. plus I may need to find more. 😂 I’m going to have a look at Chris’s Channel…..
You have a black bucket with the text 'Karwei", which is from a Dutch DIY chain of stores. It translates to chore or job - but in the sense of a DIY project. I guess it came with the boat? Also why is Jorja doubled up when there seems to be so much space behind the boat she is doubled up with?
Well spotted. Linda was in the Netherlands for the first 18 months of my ownership. I bought the Kartwei bucket myself as that was the nearest hardware store near me. As for the mooring. The space behind Jorja is the landing spot for the lock. Canal and River Trust don’t allow moong there even though nobody uses that bit as the landing spot. You can see the yellow painted bollard on the bank, those are the landing bollards.

Hi Carl, I’m not exactly sure what I’ll end up using as the wood finish. By doing what I’ve done, I’ve insulated the roof and improved the look of the space. I can readjust and improve the arrangement of the battens later when I decide the final finish. There are vents tat need to be installed at some point..
@@canicebannon Oh I see I have always been facilitated how the woods fixed to the metal and stays put with the high temperature changes from winter to summer.
In fairness to Beth, she does work full time! I on the other hand run a two hour walking tour that gives me time in the rest of the day to work on Linda.

Padded cell. 😂😂At least it's a warm cell. Good job. 👍
Hi Will. Weirdly the stove warms the boat up even without the insulation. Although the insulation below the waterline is doing most of the work….😀
I thought the calico was an inspired choice! It must feel so much more rewarding to be be adding to the space rather than taking things out.
It is a very nice finish and colour. However, because of my filthy gloves there are black marks all over it… 😂😂😂
