Making the Squiggle Ring Box
Вставка

- This was an interesting build for one of my earliest clients. The objective was to store rings and cuff links. The wood is jatoba which is quite dense. Each squiggle is 3/4" thick and received 3/8" radius roundovers on either edge to give a half-round profile. The finish is Rubio Monocoat.

The whole time I was thinking "uhh...how is this a box?" and at the end I just smiled - what a cool piece! Very unique, elegant, and well made. Thanks for sharing.
Haha thank you! I wondered that a bit myself during the build.
Holy guacamole! That is amazing! You definitely thought “outside the box” for this one!
I couldn’t see it until it was there! Absolutely stunning 🤩 🤙
Very cool piece. Nicely done.
Beautiful, I enjoy your videos and talent.
Cool ! All I need is a $5000 CNC machine to put my wife's wedding band in .
What a cool design!
Thanks Blake!
When you made the squiggle wine rack, it was my thing of the week on Because We Make. Had this dropped before we recorded this week I totally would have picked another of your squiggle designs. This is fantastic, and it turns jewelry storage into art!
Thanks Vincent!! I remember discussing the wine rack on the podcast and talking about leaving the edges square and sharp. I went round this time and think it really takes it to the next level.
Интересная идея 👍

That's a really awesome design! I have a piece of purple heart several times that size, but I don't know if I'm brave enough to try something like that. I've had the wood so long because I hate how dense it is.
Nice Work, but it would be more artistic if you would cut your reference piece by hand not cnc.
Hi! I'm korea carpenter
I use monocoat too,
box so smart.
Ficou lindo esse trabalho. Parabéns! 😁👍
Not a CNC fan. Letting a computer do your work is not wood working it is design and let a machine do it. I'd like to make a box like that but just the materials are prohibitive.
A CNC is just another tool that takes time to learn and use properly. I’ll tell you this, it’s much more difficult to use than a thickness planer but no one knocks someone for using one.
I would never have thought about building something like that, that's a piece of art. Very cool design.
Thank you Andrew!
Wow, what an interesting design idea. Thanks
waoww so creative thx a lot for sharing
That's a cool design.
Really beautiful work, John! It looks amazing! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Very well designed and outstanding craftsmanship. The is a unique and beautiful box.
That is really nice. It leaves all of us without CNC machines looking thru the window.
Great work but too OCD for me.
very cool!
If anyone ever robs your house, they'll never think to look for jewelry in there because it looks like an art piece. Very cool!
WOW! Very cool and original. Always at the top!
Congratulations on your work! Have a wonderful 2022 with great health and success!
Thank you! You too!!
Thanks for reminding me I need to order bandsaw blades. Nice looking work there
Very cool 👌
What a beautiful piece.. so tempted now to buy a CNC machine..
nicely done
Well what a good idea !!! I will have to give that a try, Stewart, south west Australia.
Very cool. Nice work and thanks for showing the correction you made. It is one of my favorite parts of woodworking
A million views for this piece 🙌🏿
Beautiful box! Really love the creativity.
What a beautiful piece. Love the elegance of it.
Great project & build! I would have put hinges on one end & a latch on the other. That way it keeps it together as one piece. Anyway, that is a beautiful piece of woodworking! 👍👍😉😉
Thanks Steve! Hinges were definitely considered but a touch out of budget for this one. Would’ve been a cool look though.
Wow this is very unique
very cool design
I love it💕
Cool design. Didn't quite get the shine from that Rubio that most people get. That's a bit disappointing.
Thanks! Ya. A good portion of this is end grain because of the curves. A second coat definitely would’ve brought out some sheen.
Etonnant, bravo pour l'idée et la réalisation.
What a very cool piece, it came together really great. Enjoy watching your creations.
Thanks Don!
Man I am so jealous of that jointer
Just a tip on the Rubio - I found that its not actually 3:1... If you do that you end up with left over in the big tin. if you do 11:3 (3.6666:1) then it works out correctly.
I’ve noticed the same thing, running out of accelerator. I wonder if the 11:3 ratio is just as effective.
@@parillaworks it seems to work perfectly fine still for me. It actually says "appr. 3 units A to 1 unit B" on the tin, so I assume it can't be too picky...
Looking great, John!!
This was a creative idea! A re-imagining of the box from the ground up.
Thanks James!
Very nice!!! Love this idea !!!
That turned out awesome John!👍🏻 I’ve never worked with that kind of wood before! It looks hard! Thank you for sharing your skills with us!
Thanks Bill! I can’t wait to get rid of the remainder of that board…it can be a pain to work with.
Very unique! nice build. Would you try bent lamination next time?
Thanks! I looked into it and may consider it next time. In this case, I was worried about the recesses and didn’t want to have extra to think about haha
Seeing different shapes using same techniques headed for the shop
I might use the technique soon in a desktop…we’ll see!
Unexpected outcome.
So nice !
Nice job
Nice!
Outstanding work.
Thank you Peter!
