- This little apothecary chest was a present for my dad and was made to hold small pocket knives. The chest is made of white oak and finished with walnut oil. The drawers are 2" x 2" and have solid brass knobs from Lee Valley.

❤️ All of it, but the last drawer delivery was extra ❤️❤️
I want one of these little cabinets. By the way nowadays I cannot sleep unless I watch two or three of parillaworks video. Please post more video!
Loved your comment about watching “Encanto”! Totally obsessed with that movie. lol 😂 This is a sweet little set of apothecary drawers. 👍
Hahaha! Yep Encanto for days over Christmas. Nicely done!
Love the proportions on this one and all the tiny roundovers make it look so polished/refined
Thank you!!
I enjoy all of your apothecary cabinet builds. Wondering if you ever get photos of them once they're placed in someone's home or office. Those would be cool to see. Even though they're beautiful pieces, I sometimes have trouble imagining how/where they're used.
Hey Jim. Thanks for your comment. I don’t really have any photos of these pieces “in place” so to speak. The first large one made on this channel is still where it is as shown in the finished photos (entryway to our house). The smaller ones usually go on a desk or maybe a hutch if some kind. I have a little one on my nightstand that holds watches and other knick knacks.
I initially thought this said “my smaller apothecary cabinet yeet” and therefore am I little sad it didn’t get yeeted.
Absolutely! Why wouldn't we want to have the plans?! I'm sure your dad loved it as much as we do!
I made an apothecary chest with 96 drawers smaller than those ones. Keeping the fronts aligned is quite a job and I line marked and numbered each one first.
That's a lovely small cabinet.
I've always wanted to make a large one , but this has inspired me to make a small one first ( so I can make the mistakes on a small one )
Thanks !
lovely piece.
great result
Amazing work, John! Beautiful little thing! 😃
Happy new year! And stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Impressive precision work and I love your jig solutions. Nicely done!
Excellent work, as usual, John~! It's impressive the way you're able to scale up or down your cabinet design. I can't wait to see what's next~!
Yay!! Happy New Year, John! Hope you're well and staying healthy.
This is soooo cute!!
We've watched Encanto at least a dozen times since it came out. Our kids can't get enough. 😂 Awesome project as usual!
If we aren’t watching it, we’re listening to the soundtrack! My 3 year old seems to make all of the entertainment decisions these days. 🤣
@@parillaworks Dude seriously. My kids are constantly asking our Google Home to play the soundtrack on Spotify. 😂
Terrific craftsmanship and artistry. Thanks for sharing this insightful video. Wishing you and your family a blessed new year. Cheers
Love all your projects but this one is my favourite.
Love It, Excellent!
Seriously awesome work. One of these days I might get to something.
Good
I really like that John! Bet your Dad liked it? I need to make one for myself! 😃 Be great if you would come up with some plans! 👌 Thank you for sharing!
As always, very nice build! Happy New Year to you & your family! 👍👍😉😉
Thanks Steve!
Ooooooo nice if I could I would make one of these but I am bad at things
I love this! I have no practical use for one. But I want one!!! I have some quarter sawn white oak that are in small pieces (from a turner). I've kept them wondering what I could use them for. This would be perfect!!! I just love these Apothecary Chests. I must say... I laughed out loud when you delivered the last drawer on your mini bike. TOO FUNNY!!
You could use it for jewelry, some money, pluggs/charger. Wires.. Nail polish.. Haha, anything that could fit into it.
Make a reason :) 😍
And yes!! If you make plans in the future, I'll buy it 😍
Same here. Another excellent video with very informative commentary- much better than having music playing from beginning to end- a real turn-off for me.
Noted! Thank you!
nice
I like your design. I started playing with wood a little over a year ago. Knowing little to nothing but hoping to learn as retirement age is coming. Not into furniture right now. Being Kindling and saw dust are my forte. I like smaller things. I always wanted to do an Advent Calendar for mini bottles. And now that I am playing wood. I would like to do an Apothecary chest for an Advent (mini bottle) Calendar. I think I could do your design.
Would love the plans!
You really are an artist. A request, if you are using wood to show your creativity, then try to plant some 🌲 trees also. How wonderful would it be to give back what Mother Nature gives us. Thanks
Love this build and yes would like plans.
Thanks Bill!
Would you be willing to walk through how you use your jig for the dados? I'm curious how you align the different length pieces to ensure the dados all line up during assembly. I can see that some of the pieces have pencil lines, but that feels, less accurate I guess, than the precision results you are getting.
Sure, I’ll try to put something together. Maybe when I release plans I’ll go over it. The short of it is, the jig is sized to fit the short sides. Anything longer or shorter is eyeballed against a marked line. I know that doesn’t seem accurate but when splitting the difference between 1/16” or 1/32”, it’s fairly accurate to eyeball it.
Hi, I have already the plans for you 9 draw chest. It would be nice to have the plans for this one too. So please "on my knees and my hands folded" LOL make some plans for this awesome peace of mini furniture.
And sorry for my bad english.
Stay save and see you on the next one ;-)
Cheers and a big hug from France Tim
Thanks for buying the other plans! It seems enough people want them for this build so I’ll try to get that started soon.
GOOD news ... no best news today :-) Thanks a lot
Plans would be great! Probably a great project to cut your teeth on as a novice. Great work as always!
Thank you! I think I’ll get them started soon!
That last step looks very important. 🚲
It’s taken me a long time to realize the mini bike is essential to my builds.
Hi John, what are your favorite places to get get hardware? Namely the card frame pulls.
Hey Cheston. The ones from this video are from D Lawless. Good price for the quality. Woodcraft has a good option that I used to use most often. And Lee valley had some pricier options that I usually present to clients if they are willing to pay the premium.
Gorgeous work as always John.
I noticed you drilled into the 3/8" faces with the dowelmax in the face configuration; what did you do to mitigate the issue of the clamp pads hitting the aluminum spacer that screws into the inner face of the main body? I frequently use my dowelmax for 1/2" material and using cauls on the clamping pads gets annoying after a while.
Thank you. For 3/8” I treat it like 1/2” and end up with an overhang that gets flush trimmed afterwards. Because of this, the top and bottom panels need to be cut longer by about 1/4”. I always forget how long the overhang is. Sometimes I get 1/16”, sometimes 1/8”. Depends which spacers I use.
@@parillaworks Gotcha. Thanks for the info. 👍
Beautiful work! Can you please provide a link to the knobs you used? It's hard to identify the one you used on the Lee Valley website. Thanks!
Thanks! I used the brass 5/16" ones in this link: www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/hardware/knobs/cabinet/67978-lee-valley-small-turned-knobs?item=05H2201
@@parillaworks Thanks so much!
I want plans
Curious as to why you used dominos instead of just maybe two dowels in the cross section for the legs? The standup jig seems cool and I’m not familiar with it which might be my answer. It seems like if you’re off by a little bit, given how narrow the cross section is, it could easily blow out the sides if you aren’t spot on. In theory a dowel could as well but… i don’t know. Not judging or anything, just curious why one over the other for that particular instance. Thanks.
The stretcher is only 1.25” wide which was a touch too narrow to comfortably and reliably fit 2 dowels. Luckily I had the Domino as an option. The Domino has reference pins that pop in and out as needed. It’s essentially a little stop block that lets me butt the workpiece against it for repeatable cuts.
@@parillaworks ahh that makes sense. Awesome, thank you for explaining that.
Looks great. Have you thought about upping the joinery game at all? Dovetail case or sliding dovetail dividers? Not criticizing, but from my own experience nailing new techniques feels great. This is coming from the hobby side of things, doing it in a production environment might not be feasible.
I consider it every now and again. I cut some dovetails when I first got started with woodworking and didn’t enjoy it much. Sliding dovetails would definitely be useful from a strength perspective though.
Very nice! Do you think it's big enough to hold all of your Lego mini figures? As I recall, you have quite a few.
Haha it’s big enough for about 30 of them. So I may need a few to 100 more drawers. 😂
push sticks please
Charming build.
Don't let your health insurance see your upsidedown domino methods tho.
😂 that was a good one!
Ha! I won’t lie it was a bit dicey to start but I think with a clamp it’ll be a bit safer.
I was cringing seeing it..
Just don't talk about Bruno
I did it with the Woodbex plans.
ur crazy to work with the domino like that, just let the wood crack u will hard dmg ur fingers or even lose it. not good at all to show this in youtube.
