We have the same kit... saw it in the live stream yesterday! That's always the case... the ONE you REALLY REALLY need, is nowhere to be found! I was lucky with this one!
That is a first class smoke machine. I had one. A great friend pulled a repo on it and I got a leak tamer. U can’t just use air like the Snap On. It makes smoke or nothing. The flow ball is there though. Always enjoy and learn from VW Master.
Thomas EXOVCDS Enjoyed the trip to the part store. Do u have to pay for the smoke machine too? Do the other guys in the shop appreciate your generosity? We do
I bought it to make my life easier... I can't rely on the boss to "think ahead" and purchase stuff that we might need. I have bought many things that should be considered "shop tools"... it's all good. If & when I leave / quit, those tools are leaving with me! =)
Hi Thomas, thanks for the video. My 1993 Eurovan smells of gas when it's hot outside. Do you suspect the EVAP canister might be done for? Thanks, Chris
Possibly. Check for signs of leak at the canister, around the filler neck, under the fuel tank and in the engine bay. If you don't see signs of leakage, you'll have to follow the smell to the source.
Thomas just saw this video. I'm replacing the metal filler part on my Eurovan/t4 previous owner screwed it up to make it a screw on cap instead of original tab type that my 97 came with. Do you have a part # or year of Vanagon that seal is from?
If the door handle has the same key code as the ignition switch... remove the door handle and have a lock smith code a new key. Or get the key from the dealer (give them the VIN of the car). You can bypass the ignition yourself, but I don't have time right now to explain.
Any time fuel is allowed to evaporate out of the fuel tank... it's a loss of fuel and yes, can affect fuel economy (fuel disappears without engine running... but at a slow rate). I have not tried to change it without dropping the tank... it might be possible, not sure. I dropped the tank because I was not sure where exactly the leak was and what was involved to fix it.
Guy walks over and, in the middle of your confirmation smoke test, attempts to loosen the gas cap! Jeez. Nice fix considering it was probably never designed to be repaired!
Can I ask, In Canada if you're buying genuine parts for repairs do you buy directly from a Volkswagen dealer or is there a separate retail outlet for trade supplies? Over here in UK we have TPS - tps.trade/ which is part of the VW group, which specialise in genuine parts only supplying to shops/garages. For a shop to purchase from them , they'd need to open an account, and then anything ordered gets delivered to the shop the same day.
We have parts stores that stock genuine Dealer parts... but only a select number of parts. We have to buy direct from the Dealer when we can't find it through our regular parts suppliers.
That's one odd shaped fuel tank, making the fuel gauge display an accurate value must have been a pig, odd non linear values stored in the computer i suppose.
I have a couple of universal oring kits and rarely can I find one to match what I need .

Was lucky to find an o-ring to fit! =)

I'm thinking about upgrading to the newer / smaller version... this one is a bit big.

@@EXOVCDS thanks I'll check that out!
no seal in the diagram that may be a case of built in redundancy for the tank
Nice Job mate 👍
Thank you!

Thank you.
My Touareg got a fuel pump recall...Ya!!! supposed to get a letter soon to take it in for a replacement..
Interesting... does it say specifically which Models are affected?
I have a question I want to buy a 1994 vw golf but the only problem is the owner lost the keys what should I do to put in neutral? The ignition switch

does that affect your fuel mileage? Can you change it without dropping the tank?

The big center section is enough for an accurate level.
