    Hi Thomas,
    thank you so much for your video, I was stuck in how to get the old pump out, but once I saw how hard you had to turn, I grabbed in with two hands and gave it a hard push to the left and it worked. Since it was evening I did all the connections with a new pump on my work bench, and tomorrow I am going to install all. I just hop I get the pump in the locking plate and turned, we'll see. Once again, thank you very much.

    Fantastic, as always. We recently finished replacing the timing chains on my 1999 T4 and ended up with a crank, no-start situation that was traced back to no fuel pressure. I’ll be replacing the fuel pump next and watched this a few more times. Thank you!

    Tom Wingarde Guten Abend! Make sure that the fuel hoses are correctly clamped using clamps that have sleeves (same style as factory clamps). If the clamps are not tight enough or if the plastic tube is not clamped evenly... fuel pressure can leak out, resulting in hot start issues (long cranking time).

      I just got the new pump and sending unit. This vehicle came in with a 06 T bird both had been sitting for 5 years. the Tbird needed the tank dropped to remove all the bad fuel and the pumps. Its a saddle bag tank and both pumps had rotted away. I also had to replace the fuel filter and injectors. I suspect the injectors will need to be replaced on the Eurovan as well.

      the vw lived. did not need anything else but filter and pump. Cleaned out the fuel rail with sea foam and compressed air and the engine started. I suspect the fuel tank had less water in it than the tbird. I did some research and found the tbirds tank have problems with trapping water.

      @x-man4702 check the site for a fuel sender and rubber cover seal. I've only had to replace one plastic tank cover (that has the in & out fuel fitting) due to cracking. Worst case, the rubber seal & sender can be reused. If the seal is looking dry / has small cracks... use some silicone grease to help revitalize it. Parts are getting scares, get what you can, reuse what you have to. =-(

      Garth Goldberg I can't compete with the diagnostic channels, so for the most part, I don't include it (diagnosis) in my videos... unless it is an easy diagnosis (not a lot of time involved). Remember, It would be additional video / memory used in my video glasses and additional editing time on the weekend. So I just stick to recording the actual work that needs to be done.
      The pump did not hold pressure. Customer complaint was long cranking time. Pressure dropped from 40psi to 0 in a few seconds... not good. New pump held pressure & no more long crank to start (cold or warm).

      Key on engine off... is the check engine light ON? It should be. Have you checked for any fault codes? If the light is not on, then the ECM (engine computer is not awake). If it is on (and you don't have any ways to check for fault codes), it could be one of a number of issues... crankshaft position sensor, fuse or wiring issue for the ignition coils / injectors. When did this problem start? Died while driving or wouldn't start one day?

    • @benpenuliar3852
      @benpenuliar3852 4 роки тому

      It’s was two months ago when my wife was driving and the car starting to loose power. Then we got it towed to a local shop and diagnosed as fuel pump, so I towed the van back home and change the fuel pump (Bosch) by a friend mechanic. This was the third time changing the fuel pump. If it is a ignition/injector wire problem. Would this cost the fuel pump to burn out? Thank you

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  4 роки тому

      Third time... so the prior 2 times the engine ran again with the new pump?
      No, ignition or injector faults should not cause the fuel pump to burn out. They are all on their own circuits... aside from the fuel pump relay that feeds power to the injectors & fuel pump.

  • @benpenuliar3852
    @benpenuliar3852 7 років тому

    I have one more question...6 months ago a got a check engine and the reading was PO411 and PO0455. I didn’t drive the van for a week and half....now it won’t fire up (battery, starter are fine). Here’s what I’ve change so far evap purge valve, relay. Do you think it’s the gas pump? Thank in advance Sir!

    • @EXOVCDS

      Does it crank ("starter is fine" doesn't tell me if it cranks)? If you don't hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to ON, tap the bottom of the fuel tank while someone cranks the engine... provided it cranks.

    I'm sorry to disturb you, but I'm reduced to desperation.
    I have a VW T4 5 cylinder 2.5 liter engine with automatic transmission.
    my electrician added an ISB port to the electrical system, but from that moment the motor starts but no power reaches the spark plugs.
    we also replaced the coil thinking that the problem was there.
    but nothing, the current reaches the coil but not the spark plugs.
    does she have an idea?
    Thanks for any information they can give you.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 місяців тому

      I don't know what an ISB port is
      What does your electrician think the problem is? He knows better what he did than I do. If it happened after he worked on the van, then it has to do with what he did.
      Post a video on your channel, so that I can hear the engine when you are trying to start the engine.
      Show me how you are checking for spark.

      @@EXOVCDS sorry, I spelled it wrong, USB port to charge your cell phone. and he claims that after doing the work he also moved the van. except that when the vehicle was collected, the motor turned but no explosion was heard. we excluded the pump because it has an LPG system and it doesn't start with that either. he checked the fuses and relays, the current reaches the coil but not the spark plugs, he disconnected a spark plug cable and inserted a spark plug, it actually doesn't turn on. I'm a little embarrassed to ask him if I can make a video, I think I'll take the VW T4 to another mechanic. I also think that things don't break by themselves, but he's good and I don't know what to think. but she is very kind as always :-), I love my t4 I hope they repair it for me. :-)

      Are you sure that the timing belt is ok? If the timing belt does not turn the camshaft, spark will not go to the spark plugs.

    • @FGiordy
      @FGiordy 8 місяців тому

      @@EXOVCDS I will ask him to check, thanks :-). but taking what the electrician told me as true, can the timing belt fail so suddenly? he turned off the engine that was running and then it never started again. he's too weird. and I have no reason not to believe him. I don't think he's hiding anything from me.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 місяців тому

      @FGiordy I have no idea what is wrong... just like you and your electrician. A timing belt is a simple thing to check... and yes, they can fail suddenly when they are old. Simply stalling the vehicle by letting the clutch out wrong, can cause a weak belt to break. Listening to the sound of the engine trying to start... can tell you if the belt is ok or not.

    Hi can you please tell me how long you think this whole replacement took? Thanks in advance. Simon from Downunder

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому

      Simon Templer I just checked mitchell labor guide... 1.9hs is suggested. You can gain access to the pump without moving the seat or carpet, but the carpet will have to be "cut" to gain access to the pump cover. If I remember correctly from my visit to Australia last year, more beer breaks are taken Downunder than here in Canada... so it's a bit hard to say how long it should / will take! :-)

    Hi Thomas, I have a 93 Eurovan MV 5spd 2.5 gas engine. No start. No fuel pump noise when key is on. Power to fuse (18) for 1 second when key is on and constant power when cranking. Power to relay, clicks when key on. Jumped 87 and 30 with a jumper wire and still nothing from pump. Beating on bottom of tank dose nothing. Is there anything else I can check before I rip the seats and carpet out? Is there a place I can test the wiring to the pump elsewhere?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  4 роки тому

      The red/yellow wire that goes to the fuel pump can be found behind the fuse box (lower left hand corner where it goes under the carpet). I wouldn't pierce the wire to check for voltage... if you have an inductive amp clamp, you can check if current is present when the key is cycled. Most likely the pump is stuck, or the contacts within the pump are completely shot. Your best bet is to remove the carpet to gain access to the connector (to check for voltage at the pump)... once you confirm that voltage is present, you're only a couple of steps away from removing the pump.

      Thomas EXOVCDS I thought maybe the key switch?? I jumped the hall sensor and the coil sparks.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  5 років тому +1

      Spark will only happen if the Hall Sensor in the distributor is sending a signal to the ECM... which then sends a signal to trigger the ignition coil. If the Hall sensor is bad... no spark. If the timing belt is broken, the distributor will not turn and you will not have spark. Check fuse 18 (if I remember correctly) for power while you are cranking. Fuse 18 should be for the fuel pump. If the fuse has power, then the pump could be "stuck". While someone is cranking the engine (with the ignition key), hit the bottom of the fuel tank with your open palm hand. Disconnect the ignition coil and check for power (using a test light) at one of the 2 outer pins when the key is ON. Attach an LED test light to battery + and then hold it against the center pin of the coil connector... have someone crank the engine. The LED light should flicker.
