- I absolutely love repurposing children’s cardboard books! Not only are they dirt cheap at the thrift store & we can breathe new life into them…but they are so sturdy with well made spines and the pages can handle a gazillion layers (perfect for mixed media!). Also…they come in so many different shapes & sizes!
*You can see how I covered up these pages in this videos here

I love your journal Soraya! The blue and orange are beautiful together as well as the hot pink, your page really sings with the hot pink and yet the blue compliments it very well (love the shade you are using! Is it cobalt blue?) Look forward to your next post featuring this gorgeous upcycle! A feast of colour and your mysterious exotic ladies ❤💛🧡💙 they tell a story all on their own 💕
Thank you so much Sandra…I’m a sucker for hot pinks and reds & oranges🥰swoon!!!
The blue I’m using is from Dick Blick…it’s Blick Acrylic in Blue Deep (super reasonably priced at aprox 3$)
Yes…the ladies always show up 🤣🤗
@@sorayanulliah 😁😄🧡💙😍
Such a beautiful Art journal Soraya. I love it❤🫶🏽❤️
Thank you so much Lisa…it’s in it’s very early stages so I’ll be posting more videos as I go along 🤗
Hi Soraya. I love what I call The Green Painting 😂✌🏼🌷
Hi Diane…thanks so much! I was experimenting with that Canary Green …oftentimes, I have to make a conscious effort to steer away from the hot colours!
Beautiful journal, Soraya!
Thanks so much Patricia! It’s a work in progress 🤗
Happy New Year! Great segment. I’ve been playing a bit with board books. Yours today inspired me to get back into it. 😅
That’s awesome 🤩 Children’s cardboard books are theeeeeee absolute best for repurposing into art journals!! They can handle any amount of layers! Thanks for watching and have fun in your little books 🖌️👩🎨🎨
Love this idea!!!
Did you have to gesso the pages prior to painting?
@@kathyb5740 I was wondering the same thing 🤔
Hi Kathy…no…I just cover the page 100% with collage (I use mod podge for glue). It’s a bit tedious t first because you cn only work one layout/spread at a time so the pages don’t glue together 🤕but totally worth it once it’s done. I usually work on a few cardboard books at once. I made a video on using children’s cardboard books as art journals

…they are just perfect…super cheap at the thrift store, come in all shapes and sizes…the spine holds well when it expands as you fill it up with mixed media, can take any amount of layers plus you’re recycling 🥰 Happy Creating 🖌️👩🎨🎨
Hi Sandra…please see the response I gave to Kathy…& I also made a video on this

If you have any other questions, I’ll be happy to answer them and or make another video 🤗
PS
And actually, the cardboard book I’m applying collage to in my creating first layers video is the exact same book I’m painting the cover for in this video!
@@sorayanulliah it is beautiful! Watching the link you posted to us now Soraya. Your journals you created from these books are beautiful! Who knew we could create journals from children's board books? I love it! I am currently upcycling old personal journals and cookery books for my abstracts and fun warm up exercises.
Soraya, I have been following your art as soon as I found you recently. Thank you for being so inspiring in sharing your journey and where you currently are! Do you have a plan to create a video on how you start creating one of your board book journals? Specifically, do yo use gesso before you start a spread, or do you always just collage on the spread first, then start to add layers? Thanks in advance. I have tons of board books I collected but have trouble starting. Do you ever struggle with the start? I find that is a common problem among artists.
Hi Lisa…thank you so much for bring here…welcome to my channel 🤗
I made a video on how I build up my pages, you can watch it here
ua-cam.com/video/hixnP4-NwlE/v-deo.html
You can also visit my Playlist section and videos are grouped together. I apply collage to the pages of my cardboard book to cover them completely. It’s a bit tricky in this first stage because you have to work on one spread at a time so the pages don’t stuck together from the glue (that’s why it’s great to work on multiple books at one time!).
I don’t usually have difficulty starting in my cardboard books because it’s not a blank white page…the collage definitely helps!
I hope this answers your questions but if you have anymore, please don’t hesitate to reach out🤗
Happy creating 🖌️🎨👩🎨
