I love that you share the “oh no what do I do” and “how? Eek” and “am I going to ruin this?” Moments…. So we can know for sure we aren’t alone in this! It’s so easy to feel the uncomfortable feeling of maybe I’m not really an artist. The joy of discovery shines through in this video!
I’m a mixed media artist, and one of the reasons I started was because to do mixed media I could use material I had on hand and repurpose it and I was a single mom with no money at the time! So it’s a great way to be creative if you can’t go out and buy a ton of art supplies also mod podge is fantastic for applying paper to all kinds of surfaces, including canvas! As it dries, it kind of pulls the paper so you don’t have to worry about it warping or brunching up. Just run an old plastic credit or gift card over the still wet mod podge. Then you can pretty much apply any type of medium on top of mod podge!
I love how vulnerable you are in this process! All the ups and down of your process. This taught me why I become paralyzed in learning to draw. The different techniques are all important. You’re a great teacher by example. I’m encouraged now to just start at where I’m at. Thank you so much! And I love your art!
Sara, you are the most creative artist on this planet. So intrigued with how your mind works for these detailed projects. I love how the lantern turned out. Can’t wait to see the final image of the completed antique lady.
The vintage collage girl turned out amazing but I also really like the light up lantern. It is so nice to see you try new things and that you show your struggles you are really are helping in taking the fear out of trying something new, and to relax and play. Sometimes it is just about learning, experimenting and having fun. Not everything must be "perfect" or a masterpiece. I think as artists or just plain old adults we forget to enjoy the process and to relax and play. Thank you Sarah.
Love seeing the art journey you are on and how you share it for us all to learn along with you ❤ A light up coloring page 🤯 I neeeeed those little lights!
My favourite was the collage artwork. It's more meticulous, less "free" than usual collage, but the end result is a fabulous piece of art. Thanks so much for sharing this process! Must have taken many, many hours. Well worth it! (Loved this little sigh about your pan pastel background... now hidden)
I really enjoyed watching the lady come together - she is so beautiful and deserves a good name. Like Evelyn. I also really enjoyed seeing how you’re using the color cubes. I just got my color cubed and super excited to use them
Wonderful video. A treat to see the good, the bad and the ugly, lol. The vintage woman is truly a lovely piece of art. I would hang on my wall as well. Thanks for the fun!
I did a piece like your collage girl about 20 years ago for a school project. I had so much fun doing it, but yes it does take a long time and I remember saying lots of expletives during the process 😂. So glad you’re having fun with mixed media and love what you have created ☺️
This is a happy video. It's full of very creative ideas. She is really precise with the collage hair. I really like the end where her son enjoys the lamp picture lighting up. 🤩
Just discovered your channel as I watch mixed media videos vs coloring for the most part. This is the funnest video with mixed media I’ve ever seen! Your fabulous! Hilarious and SO creative. Looking forward to following you in the future!
That vintage collage portait was epicalky good. Now I want to collect vintage paper and try it myself. Thanks for sparking that creative itch by showing your process
I can't believe how much time and effort you put into the Vintage Girl - she came out fabulous, definitely frame-worthy:). My favorite was the lantern project - I think I'll give that a whirl for my Halloween gallery art display. But I think the overall lighting up your artwork could be a really fun project. Coloring pages and stencils are my favs for multi media art - now if I add some metal gears and light it up it takes it to another level of fun. Subscribed for the artistic inspiration!
Wow Sarah, My favorite is the "Vintage Girl" she is amazing! Second is the Lantern and then comes the gelli mat painted house. I had so much fun watching you with both your accomplishments and your failures! This video was such a great time. I really enjoyed watching you have FUN and isn't that what is best about ART? Please continue to do more of these super videos, I'll be sure to watch! Way To Go Girl!!!😁
I just discovered your channel. I LOVE this video. The vintage girl is so beautiful. It's great that you leave in all the messy bits. I immediately subscribed and am going to go back and watch your other videos.
hello, congratulations for your compositions! I love the collage you made on canvas! This is a great idea! It makes you want to try 😍 it’s very inspiring! I have some old newspapers lying around I'm going to try I think I'll have fun! thank you very much and continue your videos! have a nice day ☀️
Mixed media is so fun! The vintage woman is absolutely stunning 🩵 I love that you chose turquoise for the flowers. Also, the interactive light piece was a great idea!
Sarah, I love mixed media, and your art was extraordinary. Thank you for all the content and how you try to go out of your comfort zone this is inspiring for me so I thank you so much
Thank you so much Sarah, I really really enjoyed watching you create these two beautiful pieces of mixed media artwork. I really really love the portrait style one, it’s so unique and beautiful too.
That lantern was so incredibly cool with the light!! 🕯 I loved all of the pieces!! 💞 The lady was so beautiful! 😍 I like the toned vintage papers! 🤗 Mixed media creates depth and contrast in ways that one media just can't do!! 🥰
The Vintage Girl. Oh...I love both. Both projects are amazing!!! Can't wait to see your next Mix Media projects. The way you explained 'The Mistakes turn into new discoveries' love it. 🇦🇺
Omg this video was so inspiring!!! All of it looked so fun, and I actually liked how pretty much everything turned out. But the girl and the lantern were legit gorgeous. Absolutely display-worthy pieces, I'd be crazy proud if I managed to pull off anything even remotely that nice. Amazing job!!!
Amazing Sarah. They are all gorgeous. I have an incredible piece of mixed media done by a friend and know how much time and effort goes into making them. 🤩🤩🤩
I love when playing with an idea ends up with a new & unique piece, like a collaged coloring page or a mixed media one. Both turned out AMAZING, & the vintage girl on canvas blew me away! I did find the process very daunting. Wonder that anyone other than experienced artists or gung-ho beginners would attempt the required investment of time & art supplies, especially if the result was something that wasn't a keeper. But that's part of creating art & for each person to decide on their own.
Hoping you and your family are on the road to good health soon! Being sick is no fun! Take care of you, and we'll be here when you are back with more videos! We love you!!
THANK YOU! Thank you! Thank you!!!! This video was FABULOUS and really gave me a lot of ideas 😊 Sarah…. ALWAYS be YOU! I SO enjoy watching and listening to your videos. You make me feel like I can do ANYTHING! ❤
I love the lantern and flowers, it looks really cool 😄 Art is so much about having fun and enjoying the process, I find that I more often end up liking the pieces I made while having fun ✨
I liked vintage girl the best. This type of video is my favourite, where you take us through your thought process while creating art. Plus, you keep it real. 😀
OH MY GOODNESS! WOW!!!!!!! I LOVE this! ❣❣❣ I LOVE the vintage girl so much! 💖(it's my favourite) The gel plate colouring was cool... 😎👍🏼 The lantern are beautiful, and it's cool that it lights up. 😃😎👍🏼
Thank you for the email update- I did not realize I was not subscribed to your channel! I will go back through the archives absolutely get caught up. Blessings to your family.
Hi Sarah - I very much like this new approach because watching coloring is actually like watching paint dry and to see you go into mixed media... I really appreciate the change. There is always something new and interesting in mixed media... Very glad that this is happening. The channel has been a bit quiet of late. Jackie YUP very good video and new direction. I like the collage girl... The father you get away from the coloring book, the more I like it.
Beautiful pieces!! I’m always impressed by how your art has evolved over time, and how much DEDICATION it takes to make these videos. These projects must take so long to do. Thank you for creating and sharing with us!
Good to see you back with a new video. I was saying the other day to some other artists, that I had missed your content as well as Chloe's (since she has dropped back too from weekly). I watch on my TV and saw a great thumbnail that sucked me in and hey it's you. 🙂 I love this video for your. It is a great piece (the girl). It looks like so much fun, yet while I don't mind a piece that l take weeks to do, I think I wouldn't have the patience to do something like this right. I love the lantern too ❤ I'll be vague here, but I have to thank you for an opportunity I'm currently involved with. I feel so freaking fortunate and I know you were involved with it ❤
These are all so gorgeous! ❤ I love mixed media and also save scraps of paper, embellishments from cards, paper towel I used for blotting my brushes when using ink… I’m not a hoarder I’m a crafter 😅. I am also one of those strange people who really enjoys cutting out images so cutting out all those flowers I would find so relaxing 😂. I really want to give these colouring book collages a try - I find my biggest issue is coming up with an idea and getting started so using the flower page technique (or even a simplified version of the vintage girl) seems so much more accessible. On a side note, some of my favourite children book illustrations are the ones who have mixed media collages as the pictures.
Lovely canvas ! great work and very inspirational .. Thankyou and subscribed to see more of your art work .. p.s. I love Gell plate because I never know what I'm going to get
I'm so happy that you're going in this direction!!! I have also started doing multimedia and collage art lately, and I'm looking for ways to incorporate my huge stash of colored pages. The best part about this art form is that there are literally NO RULES!!! Who doesn't love that??? Your pieces turned out amazing!!! Can't wait to see what you do next!!!
I went through a paper dying phase recently and have a ton of colorful paper I had no idea what to do with. I finished the original project, but there was so much dye left over so more papers! I knew I was going to use the gel plate on some, but I am going to try the collage thing to. I've been doing collage, but not like that. Gonna go find a coloring page!
For me, at the moment I stopped to be afraid to "mess up", I started to really enjoy being creative
I wish i could let go as well !
@@geekistayou can too.
Love seeing your failures, most people hide. Thank you
You need to use ink jet printers.
thank u I needed this
I love that you share the “oh no what do I do” and “how? Eek” and “am I going to ruin this?” Moments…. So we can know for sure we aren’t alone in this! It’s so easy to feel the uncomfortable feeling of maybe I’m not really an artist. The joy of discovery shines through in this video!
The vintage girls is fabulous! The reverse painted coloring page of houses is also wonderful. Thank you.

u trying mixed media that's the best thing on the internet, please make more videos on mixed media art love to see u creating mixed media💙
My favourite was the collage artwork. It's more meticulous, less "free" than usual collage, but the end result is a fabulous piece of art. Thanks so much for sharing this process! Must have taken many, many hours. Well worth it! (Loved this little sigh about your pan pastel background... now hidden)
All three were absolutely amazing!! I really loved the reverse paiting (the house one)! Such a cool process with a cool result!
The vintage girl was my favorite, it's amazing how much effort you put into it. TFS
I really enjoyed watching the lady come together - she is so beautiful and deserves a good name. Like Evelyn. I also really enjoyed seeing how you’re using the color cubes. I just got my color cubed and super excited to use them
