I really don't understand that part though. He has an index. It's extremely immersive. You would have to be thinking about that it's just vr to be "aware" of it, or have some big distraction around you, like a automatic vacuum cleaner or something.
@@OutOfNameIdeas2 The Index is about as immersive as the quest 2 to be honest, they're scarily close in resolution/display, the Quest 2 can even be used completely wirelessly which is kinda a game changer for immersion, but has the disadvantage of no knuckles controllers. I'm only slightly worried about connecting software-controlled motors to mechanisms which could potentially pull my fingers in ways they are not meant to bend.
If this is the same glove and creator I've seen before then I believe he's stated that the motors can't actually produce enough force to cause injury even at full power. Could've been someone else though.
People like this need to be cherished and their ideas nurtured, big respect for having him on, what a future we will have with kids like this pushing the boundaries!!
Man, Lucas just impresses the hell out of me. I truly wish him nothing but the best in his future - and not just because I want sweet ass VR gloves in the near future.
This is amazing. I imagined a whole body suit like this back when I was a kid. Of course I never had the education or skills to build it, but it’s cool that we’re moving in that direction, if slowly.
It doesn't have to be this complicated, with gears and whatnot. I've been trying to give away a multi-billion dollar idea for ages just because I want to see it done
Inlay stretch fabric gloves with position sensor electrodes. Bam. Done. The electrodes would read the distance between each one in relation to the other electrodes and will accurately read the distance.

@@ForceInEvHorizon Nice thanks for the info brother! 300's not bad really. I've got a RTX 3080 graphics cars so I'm looking to get one that runs on my pc.
Linus, you should do more collaborations like this, bring more people like Lucas that are working at the frontier of some tech and give them a nice platform to show what are they doing. This content is way better than anything else you have done before.
This is so cool! It reminds me of the sensor glove me and my teammates made for our Final Thesis for my Bachelors Degree and it's bringing back so many memories. Might I suggest that for weight and bulk reduction you can use Linear Actuator Servos instead of the rotational servos? I used them for our prototype and they work exactly how a regular servo would but with the benefits of having linear action. Iirc, the only manufacturers that make those is Actuonix. They're slightly more expensive, but they're super nice and they're Canada based. This was so fun to just watch in action, I hope Lucas makes more progress in the VR Space!
I hope we get more of this kind of stuff from LTT, like exposure for young engineers and cool tech projects that need a big media push. Love to see it!
It would be amazing if Linus used his resources to help streamline and manufacture these gloves. If you made them available for purchase at a decent price then this would be the next big vr accessory that everyone would want. This kid has serious gifts and I’m sure he will do amazing with or without help from LTT, but I think it would be a great partnership
Idk if Linus has that kind of wealth, his company is still pretty small and manufacturing something like this would cost millions and millions just on startup alone. Would be cool to see though maybe if Linus invests at least partially in its development but he certainly can’t be the sole investor
That was honestly a very cool video. Reminds me of that crazy audio setup that cost 35,000$ where Linus said he wouldn't cry (XD). Love these kinds of videos where you have the inventor/professional go through the item with you. Keep it up!
Finally Lucas gets to the big tech-tube!!! I've discovered his project a few months ago on thrill seeker's channel, and I was shocked it's actually possible. The minute I have the option to built those I will.
Bearded Linus is a savage. I love it. He went from weird nerd that people joke about on the internet, to attractive nerd that people joke about on the internet. But now he seems more free.
Been following Lucas and his progress for a while and love that he gets such a stage show these off. Eventually, and I look forward to it, these might become legitimate (and perhaps even threatening to some) competitors for those gloves that cost way more than your usual consumer wants to spend on.
"it's a sex thing" just the summary of this video. I love seeing innovators and their creations like this as well as massive technological leaps like this too
Adam: "It will be the best 5 seconds of Linus' life" Linus: "I KNEW it was a sex thing!" Linus, the amount of innuendo (and other not so subtle phrases) in this video made my evening. I was feeling really down so thank you.
As someone who likes to fly helicopters in DCS I loved the feeling of beeing in VR, however, the million dials that you needed a mouse/keyboard for really broke the immersion. Until gloves are in a consumer friendly price/form I will be rocking headtracking and G9. But I cant wait for this inovation.
If you like that but would like the feeling of actually turning knobs/switches you should try VTOL VR. Granted it's nowhere near as in-depth graphically or physically as DCS - but still a lot of fun + immersive
@@TheWaluigiman1 I have a 3K Euro helicopter setup. Which is good. Or rather as good as it gets without it being in VR. The problem is when you have been in, VR you have noticed the true feeling of how impressive size is conveyed in VR.
For that kind of immersion checkout The Warthog Project here on youtube. He even said in one of his videos that he rocks his amazing cockpit in VR from time to time. If you are accustomed to the setup, you can "fly it blind".
Honestly linus, I freakin love your humour! Way to little people are okay with messing around sexual or dark humour, it's nice to see humour hasnt died!
dude, this is amazing. not a lot of people have the selflessness to go open source and i think that decision alone is going to make the journey towards mainstream gloves speed up exponentially.
Yeah, it definitely feels like the most natural solution, as Linus said, it's kinda the same way our fingers work in the first place, but in the opposite direction
which is obvious as it simulates the tendons and natural design of the body thus making it far more natural while still being really simple. Obviously there's more robust systems but string based is generally good enough for most of the stuff
Just a slight correction, at 5:20 you say that the index knuckles only have open and closed positions for the fingers, however this is not the case, the knuckles support a full range of open to closed tracking through the touch sensors, though it can be a little wonky particularly when perspiration is involved, and many games don't make use of the full range of motion. Still, I've been waiting to consumer level force and touch feedback solutions for years and so I'm so happy to see the DIY hobbyist space making moves in that area too.
@@SkeleTonHammer Ah right, yeah, I can see that being a problem. One-size-fits-all design only works so far. Would be nice if valve could supply and support a range of controller sizes.

Then for a follow up, give 2 staff members 4 days and LTT knowledge and resources to produce the next prototype. It would be amazing to see how far you guys to go in a few days and massive reach.
I've been watching this project for months now and slowly working on making my own. It is an amazing project, and Lucas just keeps making new updates, and even announced that he is working on an omnidirectional treadmill as well, which will be really cool to see where that goes
This is amazing! The tech is really cool and well thought out. I've been following Lucas for a while now, and I love that he made it onto LTT! Indie projects FTW!

Even if you combined them both, you'd still be acutely aware that you're in VR, even if just because you need to be aware of where in the room you're standing to not punch the TV/monitor/insert expensive fragile item.
@@mataskart9894 what?
i own a quest 2, and the most crappy part about it IS the display, the fov is terrible lmao
@@noimageavailable2934 110 fov? That's 30 degrees higher then the quest 2

I'm only slightly worried about connecting software-controlled motors to mechanisms which could potentially pull my fingers in ways they are not meant to bend.
They aren’t very strong motors
If this is the same glove and creator I've seen before then I believe he's stated that the motors can't actually produce enough force to cause injury even at full power. Could've been someone else though.
bro, trust me. those things aren't nearly strong enough for that, I've built a pair.
the servos most likely wont be strong enough to do any damage, and wont have enough range either
@@RidgeVR how's your experience been with them
this absolutely amazing, being able to "feel" objects and have force feedback, this guy is going places.
Great progress and wonderful job Lucas! Looking forward to the updates! 👏😎
Favourite 3d printing guy:D
So glad to see Lucas' work getting more exposure! LTT should really cover more industry-leading VR tech like this!
Really glad to see Lucas' work getting more exposure! I've been following his progress for some time now.
I really want this kinda stuff to go mainstream. It would be sick to see this as a finished product, but still at a reasonable price.
Linus: "What was I doing at your age"
Same thing as all boys at that age just not in VR
😂
Such a great feature on the channel, it's cool you reached out :)
People like this need to be cherished and their ideas nurtured, big respect for having him on, what a future we will have with kids like this pushing the boundaries!!

4:05 that moment where the pillow cost more than the gloves haha
$69 nice
Why so expensive
im glad lucas is getting more attention for this project
This would result in one-size-fits-all vr gloves that accurately model your hand in vr and would track your hand with 100% efficiency
I’ve never had my jaw drop involuntarily so many times in a single video. That kid is absolutely my hero.
Never played VR seems like alot of fun in general, but seeing where the future is going for it makes me smile and excited for the future of gaming. Congrats to this guy too he's going places.
Congratulations bro
You should totally get one is life changing and you could use it as your own personal theater. Loved watching movies with it it feels soo... immersive.
The cheapest and one of the best VR headphone you can get is Oculus quest 2. Linus, you should do more collaborations like this, bring more people like Lucas that are working at the frontier of some tech and give them a nice platform to show what are they doing. This content is way better than anything else you have done before.
Lucas is so innocent but not being able to say NO to Linus's questions is telling 🤣
I mean... who is he to tell you how to use _your_ glove? ;)
NO WAY! I've been following Lucas since the start of the development! Now he's in an LTT video! Wow!
been following this on YT and their discord for a year or more now, pretty cool to see them get some recognition! Lucas and co are awesome.

I'm so happy to see Lucas on the show. He deserves all the exposure he can get for such a brilliant project.
I've been part of Lucas's server for a while now, I'm so proud our community has made it here
I like this format of showing off new and or prototype tech a lot please do more.
thanks to you ALL @ LTT.

This kid is going places. At least I hope. Keep working on it, it won't be easy, but man, you've got talent! Big props, I am amazed!

"The power of the ba... the sun, in the palm of my hands."
That was honestly a very cool video.
Reminds me of that crazy audio setup that cost 35,000$ where Linus said he wouldn't cry (XD). Love these kinds of videos where you have the inventor/professional go through the item with you. Keep it up!
Linus feels like such a dad in this video with his jokes
I hope he gets recognized by a big companies and gets paid really well to develop this further.
Dude definitely deserves it.
This guy is amazing. I hope he figures out better and better ways to improve it as he works.
"it's a sex thing" just the summary of this video. I love seeing innovators and their creations like this as well as massive technological leaps like this too
Linus needs to invest in this kid asap!!! I haven't seen Linus this excited in awhile. Lucas is doing amazing work and excited to see the future.
Adam: "It will be the best 5 seconds of Linus' life"
Linus: "I KNEW it was a sex thing!"
Linus, the amount of innuendo (and other not so subtle phrases) in this video made my evening.
Have you tried to use a HOTAS system?
Been watching this guy on tiktok for a year, glad to see him getting more recognition.
dude, this is amazing. not a lot of people have the selflessness to go open source and i think that decision alone is going to make the journey towards mainstream gloves speed up exponentially.
Linus: So you say your a few weeks away from final product shipping? Lucas: Yeah.
Us two years later:
I always knew the secret to haptic feedback in VR was gonna be a tension string setup like this.
Yeah, it definitely feels like the most natural solution, as Linus said, it's kinda the same way our fingers work in the first place, but in the opposite direction
Same... ever since I saw this exact approach demoed 15 years ago.
which is obvious as it simulates the tendons and natural design of the body thus making it far more natural while still being really simple. Obviously there's more robust systems but string based is generally good enough for most of the stuff
You must like the word "obvious"
@@TheMalevolentSpoon obviously
My word... This just hit on a new LTT series. Bringing brilliant open source prototyping projects in and doing an episode like this. Then for a follow up, give 2 staff members 4 days and LTT knowledge and resources to produce the next prototype. It would be amazing to see how far you guys to go in a few days and massive reach.
Based on the very first clip, I know this is going to be a awesome video as always.
Nice to see Linus partnering up with smaler creators.
I've been watching this project for months now and slowly working on making my own. It is an amazing project, and Lucas just keeps making new updates, and even announced that he is working on an omnidirectional treadmill as well, which will be really cool to see where that goes
