And what federal law would that be? As far as I'm aware, no new federal laws that restrict body armor from civilians have passed as of yet. If a specific company is refusing to sell body armor to civilians that might be government contractual agreement or at the policy discretion of a company itself. With the exception of a couple of dark blue Democrat run states, there are very few states that make mere possession a crime unless one already has a prior felony criminal record. Both federal and all state makes it a crime to use body armor in commission of a felony crime.
@@Enjoyer.762 It's not federal law - all XSAPIs in existence are owned by the U.S. government due to exclusive contracts with Ceradyne the manufacturer. To own an XSAPI is owning stolen federal property. That's the law you'd be breaking in that regard.
@@Kagebunshin3 So the work around is finding a plate made to the same specs for testing purposes. And they offer nothing of similar construction, specs, on the civilian / LEO market?
@@Enjoyer.762 Well we literally have no idea how exactly XSAPIs are constructed nor the exact materials used - just that it must adhere to the mil-spec standards set forth by the military. I imagine anyone caught recording themselves tearing an XSAPI apart & uploading it would find themselves no-knock raided by Federal agencies very fast. But we somewhat know what mil-spec standards XSAPIs must adhere to, so there's nothing stopping a company from designing something similar to performance to an XSAPI. But just know that Ceradyne is pretty much the U.S. military's exclusive supplier of body armor and there's a # of plates outside of XSAPIs they've designed & sold to Tier 1 SoF & CIA personnel that both the government & Ceradyne refuse to publicly acknowledge the existence of that significantly outclass what we civilians are able to even purchase. If Ceradyne had an option to make hand-over-fist selling it to the civilian market, I think they would. However, the odds of someone purchasing it & sending it to a near-peer adversary to reverse engineer would be a nightmare to deal with even with ITAR controls in place. So the government basically said "make armor that meets these milspec standards & you're only allowed to sell it to us" while throwing $$$ at Ceradyne. It's a mutual business relationship that neither want to break from my point-of-view.
Great plate and testing! Actually pretty similar to that special russian plate that also used hex SiC tiles! If it had edge to edge coverage and, like you said, better glue and a bit more foam on the front it would be kind of perfect.

I'm not really qualified to answer something like that because it will be very dependent on the person. NIJ doesn't want anything over 44mm, and I believe the military allows 58mm.
Wonder why more people dont purchase this over say rma, ltc, hesco etc etc I've always been. Told if armor is light and cheap. They're is something usually wrong.
NIJ 07 RF1, 2, 3 are new rifle standards for rifle threat categories. See here: nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/next-revision-nij-performance-standard-ballistic-resistance-body-armor-nij-standard
I know this is going to sound critical, but at 15 yards, is it really that hard to hit the aiming point? I understand about the offset, but that’s too easy to calculate for. If you need help, I can give some lessons or recommend a ballistic calculator.
@@ChevTecGroup They’ll hit within a millimeter of one another at 15 yards. That’s the range he is shooting at. You only need to know your line of sight to line of fire offset, and check the range in a ballistic calculator to tell you how many mils or MOA to aim above. A rifle that prints 1MOA will print a single hole at 15 yards.
Typically at this close, the actual aiming point is the dot placed on the plate to accommodate for the drop I see with various guns. The CZ557 and 5.56 Compass are 1.5" low POA/POI at 45' with using the crosshairs. :D
the difference at 15 yards can be much more dramatic than you're implying. Barrel harmonics differences can be very strong in a long, thin barrel like the 22" compass in particular. They can move a group by a matter of inches as close as 15 yards. Remember that while the projectile is traveling at 3,000 fps or so, vibrations are moving through the barrel at the speed of sound in steel - roughly 10,500 fps. The crown of the barrel could oscillate to its maximum amplitude several times before the bullet leaves the barrel. The study "Study on barrel vibration characteristics of typical sniper rifle" by Ning Xu et. al. Showed a 1 mm maximum of crown deflection amplitude with a 7.62 rifle, which produces a deflection of the bore axis at 15 yards of .965 inches (if we assume the barrel used in Xu's study was 22". It appears shorter to me so the results should be considerably more dramatic with a 22") Remember also that the spin imparted on the bullet has an equal and opposite force imparted on the barrel, so it's oscillating in a oval, twisting pattern. This makes changing ammunition with the poor consistency of military rounds (which have high variability in charge grains, projectile concentricity etc) a real gamble in terms of consistency. If you're interested in learning more from a technical point of view, I recommend 'MECHANICAL VIBRATION' ISBN#9780134361307 which was the text used in my vibrations class. Good luck.

Where did you find the 338lm AP?
A collector has some. Used them in a video awhile back.
What is RF1/2 and RF3 from the chart?
NIJ 07 RF1, 2, 3 are new rifle standards for rifle threat categories. See here: nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/next-revision-nij-performance-standard-ballistic-resistance-body-armor-nij-standard
Whatever camera angle that doesn't get your face would be best
Dang so cold. 😮
Nice 👍
I know this is going to sound critical, but at 15 yards, is it really that hard to hit the aiming point? I understand about the offset, but that’s too easy to calculate for. If you need help, I can give some lessons or recommend a ballistic calculator.
He shoots a vast range of bullets and calibers. I know one of my rifles will hit quite different switching between 55gr and 62gn 5.56 ammo.
The study "Study on barrel vibration characteristics of typical sniper rifle" by
Ning Xu et. al. Showed a 1 mm maximum of crown deflection amplitude with a 7.62 rifle, which produces a deflection of the bore axis at 15 yards of .965 inches (if we assume the barrel used in Xu's study was 22". It appears shorter to me so the results should be considerably more dramatic with a 22")
Remember also that the spin imparted on the bullet has an equal and opposite force imparted on the barrel, so it's oscillating in a oval, twisting pattern. This makes changing ammunition with the poor consistency of military rounds (which have high variability in charge grains, projectile concentricity etc) a real gamble in terms of consistency.
If you're interested in learning more from a technical point of view, I recommend

which was the text used in my vibrations class. Good luck.
@@BuffRANGE understood, I’m just giving you a hard time and I’m glad you can take the jab without salt. That said, I’m going to keep giving you a hard time until you tell me where the intro music is from I asked about (not in this video). 😉 It’s been driving me nuts, I know I’ve heard it somewhere.
Whats the difference in alumina and the silica carbide....besides $100 lol
Weight. Sic weighs less than Alumina. It depending on the threat does better as well. But it degrades faster.
Where do you get M993 AP in the US?
Gun Broker.. Expect to pay $20/30rd for it.
First!
what do you think of 458 socom?
Not very good at penetrating armor. Wrecks pigs. Good on deer. Not as good as .308 for anything I'd ever use it for.
I have very little data about it. :(
Youve got the same voice as Whiteboy7thstreet
Is tactical scorpion made in USA?
Yes they are, or so says the label. I am not sure where their manufacturing facility is.
@@BuffRANGE thank you, I appreciate your tests! Provides a nice show how well it handles rated and non rated threats.
@@ACGBLR My research has concluded that their steel is made in house, but their ceramic and poly are from overseas along with a lot of their random stuff.
1. They have more products than most armor companies
2. They have all shapes and sizes. This leads me to believe they buy from someone else that has the capabilities. A small company like them having molds for dozens of different products make me question if they make it in house. Molds = $$$$
3. The non edge to edge ceramic is typical of Chinese plates.
4. Cheap Silicon is typical of Chinese plates.
5. Their import records. www.importgenius.com/search/East%20West%20Consolidated%2C%20LLC
In opposition to the troll who likes to post questions and then also foolishly answer their own questions discussing export records from the government had from a public website in which they have zero knowledge,Tactical Scorpion Gear produces all armor in USA.

Yes, it is 100% made in the USA.

I hate the elliptical, its a useless motion.
But it burns wicked calories compared to walking. Though hiking with a pack is my favorite, but it's hard to hike and read a book at the same time
I called up there asking for a discount code and got called every racist slur I've ever heard. My name is common among black people but I'm a white man from west Texas . I hung up on then only to find they actually messeged me thru my eBay account to tell me I'm a product of the public school system . Idk wtf their problem is but they lost any business I would've given them
This doesn’t sound like them at all?
yOU MUST SOUND BLACK
I tested they plate sent to me. In my opinion it is junk. They rip you off and are extremely rude if you don’t like what they do. No customer service! Don’t buy this stuff.
@@Mikolt1911 do tell more ? What plate was it ? Do you have video of it posted?
As Buff said, do tell more -- what plate? Did you take a video?
Tactical Scorpion is an absolute horrible company. I would do business with Warner Bros Acme company before them ever again.I purchased two 6-in gong targets,I have never received them. They blamed me saying I was just trying to get them for free... Tactical Scorpion is a joke of a company
