    You certainly do exhaustive checks on the armour You test , and its really interesting to see the results , regardless of whoever or whichever oversight is used , the fact is this is real life testing in the sort of conditions this equipment is likely to be used in , not just some sanitary lab at a Govt' facility , so I would say it has it's own form of validity every bit as valid as those from "Accredited" institutions simply because Your methods & practices are utterly transparent . Thanks Matt . Have a Scooby Snack ,You deserve one .

    I wonder if the most likely scenario of m855a1 out of a 14.5” barrel would’ve stopped by this plate? Ie. In this test a much longer barrel was used.

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  2 роки тому

      It's entirely possible. I can't test every barrel length, and typically why I try to start worst case scenario and then move down. Since I at times I only have 1 plate, I can only do so much :(

    • @prototype3a

      FWIW, 4.6x30 is less muzzle energy than 5.7x28.

    • @inferninx
      @inferninx 3 роки тому

      @@prototype3a muzzle energy doesn’t really matter as much as velocity and surface striking area. If the round is moving fast and the bullet is small in diameter, it’s gonna pop a plate better than a heavier, larger diameter round moving slower.

    • @prototype3a
      @prototype3a 3 роки тому +1

      @@inferninx My point was that AFAIK, FN 5.7 FMJ doesn't really punch through much of anything so I wouldn't expect 4.6 to either. Just look at 55gr 556 FMJ. Similar diameter, similar weight, MUCH faster.

    off topic, but with cmmg announcing a 4.6x30 banshee platform with 40rnd mags, I was wondering if you'll be using it in armor tests. 4.6x30 was the mp7 round and we may see it become prominent on the civ market since it's cheaper to manufacture than 5.7.

    • @inferninx
      @inferninx 3 роки тому

      I highly doubt it’ll be more prevalent than the 5.7 unless it gets widely adopted by the market. It’s literally a spicy .22mag, and you’ll never be able to get the steel core AP ammo that makes it effective. They need to actually make a handgun or two chambered in it for it to be as popular as the 5.7x28, in addition to being adopted into many different weapons platforms. Now, if HK finally gave us what we want, which is a semi auto version, i think it would go a long way to making it much more prevalent In our current market.

    • @jordanhorst6
      @jordanhorst6 3 роки тому

      @@inferninx I've watched some comparisons and it's much more powerful than 22wmr. As for the market, there has been a good amount of adoption in Europe so i don't see why it couldn't have the same here. Also the case dimensions and treatment process make 4.6 easier to manufacture than 5.7

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  3 роки тому +3

      In theory yes it is easier to manufacturer because the 5.7 needs a lacquer/polymer coating, but it's not like that tech isn't already used for steel case ammo. 5.7 can use the same 5.56 bullets up to 55gr in weight. To answer your question, I've already requested one, and you can betcha I'll dive as deep as I can into reviewing the 4.6

    • @inferninx
      @inferninx 3 роки тому

      @@jordanhorst6 I mean honestly I don’t see how it can be much more powerful, given case powder volume dimensions and bullet grain weights of both calibers. There’s only so much case space for powder, so they can only push the bullet so hot. Unless they use some super fast burning pistol powder, there’s really not gonna be a huge advantage over a 5.7 or even a .22mag coming out of the same barrel length. There’s a reason why MP7 operators who have actually used it in combat have had best results when they partially magdump a person. It wasn’t designed as a semi auto pistol cartridge, and it’s main purpose Is an smg cartridge with full auto in mind.
      But I’m all for adopting another cool cartridge if we can get it for a good price. Again, the limitation is that this is a very controlled weapons platform, so the ammunition is hard to come by and really expensive when you do find it since no one stateside owns an MP7. I doubt one company making a 4.6x30 caliber chambered AR is gonna change that dynamic much.

      They say they are multi-curve and the ones you reviewed here are BS3+MC1012 so I'm guessing they're the same plates. Level IV is nice but I figured since they already protect against m855, the edge-to-edge protection and lighter weight made them the obvious choice.
