4:38 The Jim McCarty Signature Les Paul Custom.
Jim McCarty is best known for his work with the Band Cactus.
Before that he played with Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels.
It was Jim McCarty's Gibson Byrdland and Twin Reverb setup that inspired Ted Nugent (both Michigan musicians).
Being from Michigan I'm a big Jim McCarty fan as he still plays locally from time to time.

I agree about the P90 pickups sounding great. When Gibson instructed Seth Lover to design the PAF Humbucker the goal was to have it sound exactly like the P90. They are made of the very same materials and I think they came close.
I just purchased my first P90 equipped guitar and it has become my favorite.

I just purchased a Tokai Custom Shop 1954 Reissue Goldtop. Real lacquer finish, long neck tenon and Hide Glue construction.
The wood used on this Tokai is completely ribbon flamed African Mahogany all through the body and neck.

CME’s e-mail to today had a 1964 Hagstrom III that was pretty quirky/interesting, strat style, their usual bridge and vibrato tailpiece, but only 1 knob and 6 switches, one for each pickup, a tone switch, a mute and “top”???? The input jack went sideways into a raised hump on the pickguard, but it had a replaced neck pickup (original is dead, or just needs re-wiring) and that jack hump seems to have broken many times because it’s all cracked and glued again. Red finish is pretty much player grade, but the neck is replaced with a Hagstrom II… and they still want $995 for it. Guess they’re rare enough to still have some value?

The Tokai Gold Top is a 1981 LS50 or LS60 with replaced hardware and $3k+ is unbelievable. Even if it was an LS80 you'd be looking at $2k tops.

I have an Epiphone LesPaul Special I with P90s and it is just a mahogany plank. Bolt on neck, but it is really resonant. I did replace the lightning bar tailpiece for another wraptail with 6 saddles for intonation, but it will make your ears bleed with a little Peavey Rage in doors Lol. I am having trouble with the 12 inch flat fretboard at 61 with arthritis and a torn labrum from a shattered shoulder and arm. But wow those P90s are hot! Those are beautiful guitars,

Yea, the prices were absolutely ridiculous last year, but it was a lot of fun to see so many guitars in person again after COVID. I went to thin the herd and ended up buying two more (a Mexican Fender Jazz fretless and a Taylor K14c). I'll probably go back this year and try some swaps.

2017 firebirds went for around 2k. Picked up a vintage sunburst model from Sweetwater for 1k on closeout. The ‘sword’ on the custom inlay was a rocket I think.

Hello Austin, just out of curiosity, what would you pay for a 2016 Gibson Les Paul Traditional w/hard shell case? I bought it used in December of 2015 and paid $1425 for it. It had a sunken bridge which was replaced with a "Tone Pros" tune o matic. Evidently whoever had it before me did not take very good care of it. So it got a new bridge, fret leveled and a bone nut. There's really nothing special about it except for the fact that these were fashioned after a 1958 guitar. The neck is "sort of" chunky and it fits in my hand perfectly, and I have small hands. The finish is Honey Burst and there are no breaks or repairs done to it. I know that music stores have a "pawn shop" license but I wanted to run it by you first. Unfortunately I have no photos for you, but I can guarantee this is a players grade guitar. There's a little bit of finish checking here and there as I play it a lot. This guitar was born on September the 26th of 2015 so it was just 3 months old when I got it. Anyway, your thoughts?

    • @ahoneyman
      @ahoneyman 2 роки тому

No breaks in the neck is a good thing. The Tone Pro bridge isn't really good or bad. The big problem would be buckle rash/worming on the back of the guitar. Off the top of my head price it at $1800 and take $1600 if local pickup. Pawn shop would throw you $1100 and price it at $1900. Depending on the shop they might price it at $2000 and let it sit there for months.

@@ahoneyman Thanks for the info on this one. I will sell it only as a last resort situation. It's the best Les Paul I've ever owned and I really don't want to part with it, I'm not that desperate yet. Just wanted to see what it's worth so I asked Trogley to see the value in this one. There's nothing special about it, straight from the factory with no mods or anything like that.

$650.00 USD is definitely "wholesale", if you compare it with the $9,000.000 price demanded for those off-white Firebirds. Considering that Gibson has puffed up their brand name to that huge extent, I can tell you that I would not turn my nose up at the notion of getting another Gibson model of Epiphone build quality for less than $1,000 USD, if it had to strictly be about having the logo in the headstock.

I can remember when Hotwheels came out with the flip flop paint on cars . Not long after you started seeing real life cars with that amazing paint. I couldn't tell you who Cris Derose is but that sure is a nice guitar and having a wooden bridge I'd bet it resonates well. The first and second guitar you were having trouble reading the price both looked like they were marked as $4999. I wish we could've seen what that acoustic behind that Gibson was. I looked sort of like Flying V. The grayish Washburn ont the opposite side the Gibson wasnt to expensive and looked nice. I'm wondering if the US map guitar was done in the same color as a student desk was in purpose

If you wanna get into japanese vintage Les Pauls, know that manufacturers made low, mid, and high end versions of the basically the same models. Think of it like Gibson Les Paul Standard and Gibson Les Paul Standard Custom Shops - And what we see today is people asking custom shop prices for standard guitars. But real collectors know the difference, and to these collectors too does it matter that everything is stock.

I went to the Tacoma show a few weeks ago, and it was pretty disappointing. I was looking for mid priced guitars ($2000 and under) and it was slim pickings. Almost everything was overpriced. I felt like grabbing a bullhorn and announcing that "I can find everything you're selling for considerably less online!". I did pick up a really decent quality hardshell case that fits a Les Paul for $40 though. So, not a total bust.
