The Koss Porta Pro is an iconic headphone that has been on the market now for almost 40 years. In this review, I discuss why they are my most used headphones despite having many more expensive models.

I think it does indeed hype but not in a puch above its price way but instead as a redefinition of its price category.
If you’re an audiophile, Porta Pros are a must have in your stable. They do nothing wrong in the sound department and are light and comfy. Beautiful retro style! Get Yaxi pads!
Always love to see people talk about these. They're one of my favorite headphones of all time. I mean. I've owned an Orpheus. I OWN a baby Orpheus. Various Stax. JM audio stuf. ZMF headphones. I've been around. I still always pick these up for a little bit of fun, a comfortable, reliable daily listen to good music.
10ish years ago I found these at a second hand store for like 5 euros and have been using them ever since(with a few cheap ear pad switches in between). The sound balance is just perfect to my ears. So pleasant. They're also extremely comfortable if you wear glasses.
Just A+++ all around and probably my favorite headphone ever
Great review.
You convinced me! Which koss pro porta is? There's a "classic" version, a pro porta 3.0? yaxi pads black ordered. I have mmcx and 2 pin cables (to 3.5mm and 4mm).
I've never soldered earphones and this is definitely an exciting approach to audio.
I wear these every day with the parts express headband and yaxi pads.
With the mods these are by far the most comfortable headphones that exist . They just float on your head like they're not even there. I can easily wear these 8 hours straight without the slightest bit of discomfort
Parts express mod takes the lightness to another level. Just such a good casual setup. I travel with mine so fold the original headband but just around the hous the parts express is a great choice too.
Omg I had a pair of these donkeys years ago! I still miss them.
They are a true classic.
Porta-Pro & KPH 30i... two of my all-time favs and practical.
Agree totally with you on these.......................out of the box they are stunning. Forget the rest these are the best.
Haven't worn the porta pros since I was a kid, but recently got a pair of the KPH30i and fell in love with them. Loved it so much, I had to buy a second pair. I have much more premium headphones in my collection, but there is just something wonderful about these koss headphones.
I never leave the house without these in my pocket
I agree. Had mine for absolutely years. Mine have Yaxi pads and are balanced also. They just sound like heaven.
hey there. wonderful video. i'd like to attempt the mods you've talked about here. question about the new cable soldering...there are two strands per side in the new cable, correct? are they soldered together and then to the driver as one? does that makes sense?
i think i may have answered one half of this question by noting that there are two points of connection per side of the headphones. last query...will it be obvious which new strand goes where? these are terribly newby oriented questions, i know.
Still got mine around with the purple yaxi pads. I still use it from time to time just to laid back and enjoy music.
Thanks for this! I use IEMs almost exclusively, because I wear glasses and find most headphones uncomfortable. Those look so light that I’m going to give them a try. (FYI: your links to the case and the pads are reversed; no big deal, but just thought you should know.)
Thanks for that will change them over now.
Yeh I wear glasses too and one thing i like is the pressure pads above the earcups provide a nice channel for my glasses to sit through. Very lightweight and with the pads the comfiest headphones I own.
Yea so I've been through just about every headphone and dac/amp. Even the rare to find stuff. Yet I keep coming back to the Porta Pro / KSC75. They are amazing headphones.
Thanks for this great video. I have just order extra pads and case for mine 😊
Excellent happy to hear, did you try any crazy color combos? I just bought the Rythm Beige and another set of black pads. Just looking for a special cable for the cherry on top :)
@@AudioLevels Actually, I liked the blue ones so got those on he way : )
The second I bought mine I put my m50x's away and didn't use them again. By far the best headphones in terms of value for money
I agree , these things are amazing ... Especially for the price point
Porta pros are great but I do prefer the KPH40 and KSC75. Slightly better sound (more open and balanced, KSC75 being the most open), and I love the look of the KPH40.... if only they were able to build in a folding mechanism like the porta pros
Okay , that came out of left field for me...Koss? For me it's My Grado SR60's that are about 20 years young. I might have to try those!
Still have my SR80 from the 90's, havent skipped a beat, i like the Koss's warmth and deeper bass, i think it makes them more versatile.... plus a lot more comfy, definetly check them out, at the price its a no brainer :)
but where do I get the cube?
does it have 7/10 res or less?
I had the when I was a kid and was great 30 years ago
But how did they compare to Koss KSC75X? Will Porta Pros actually be upgrade... Looking for boomy n punchy-er bass
the porta pro have fuller bass than the regular 75, dont know about the x
I am pretty sure I had a set of these in the 70s..pretty sure.. It WAS the 70s, don't remember it too clearly... Seem to remember listening to Peter Gabriel's first solo album on these, with Luxman class A amp and B&O cartridge on turntable, so that would place the year if I looked it up.. Also pretty sure they were kind of amazing.. Everything else was closed in cans and had various problems..
For a minute i thought the "supreme headphone" was in reference to the koss x SUPREME porta pro collab bahahahha
Has anyone tries these for warzone 2? Just seeing if these are any good for competitive gaming?
Amasing for gaming on a budget. Spacious sounding and very comfortable.
Tried Koss kph 40?
Found some at Goodwill along with AKG K701's and Grado SR80e's. They're quickly gaining favoritism.
For me, it’s my Sennheiser HD 25’s. They’re 35yo, all parts replaceable, durable as heck and self serviceable. Koss, though cheap, break too easily.
🔥
Too dark sounding for me...
Haven’t worn those since the uni and I’m very happily past them. The hair thing is a real pain. 🙂
I was disappointed picking these up. They are the worst sounding headphones in their pricerange that I've owned.
I don't understand how people can just praise their sound. They lose so much detail in the sound and the bass is
just about alright but bordering onto boomy. They sound tired without layers or dept in the sound.
Now ofcourse, maybe they will become fantastic once you mod them or whatever but I'm not going to do that
because I haven't done that to any of my previous headphones. Personally I feel like they belong in the 20 bucks price bracket.
And mine are going to be used as cheap travel headphones, and I guess that they will atleast do that alright.
Are you sure you have an original pair and not a rip-off? There are many fakes floating around. In my case I can say that I use my Porta Pro's almost everywhere. Listening to music, watching movies (wow), as a DJ in the club and whatelse... Have many (more expensive) headphones but I still prefer the Koss hands down.
@@mshaftenberg Yes, I buy from reputable store in Sweden. Why do you even mention DJ? Is that your benchmark for great sound or what? If you were to compare Koss Porta Pro to skull candy, you'd for sure have an argument there.
@@vertitis Ordered a pair of the KPH30I to see what the fuss is about. Hoping I'm not disappointed, either.
From what I have read online, the newer Porta Pro Utility sounds better than the non utility versions. I have also seen people recommend just using the porta pro band with either the KPH30i (back foam removed, or clear version that comes without it) or the KSC75, both with the option of slapping on some Grado G pads for a larger sound stage.
