    I think Michelle Yeoh will take the Oscar. The thinking is Blanchett already has two Oscars and will eventually win again down the road because that’s how good she is. And this is M Yeoh only chance.

      I'm waiting on the gambling odds. I'd like to see how they're matching up.
      I'm leaning Blanchett to win, but if Yeoh is a promising underdog I'm gonna jump on that.

      I hope not. Cates performance is on another level. She is Daniel Day Lewis good. If they have no problem giving Frances 3 in a short time frame then I don't see why they wouldn't give it to Cate who is just as respected and loved.

      Ummm... That's kind of an insult towards Michelle, isn't it? Also, no, the whole "This person won't win because they've won in the past" is a myth. If it were true, why are there people who have won more than once? Some of them back-to-back.

      Cate and Michelle were both excellent, but I hope MIchelle wins. The fact that she wasn't even nominated for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is ridiculous. Nevertheless, if Cate wins, I'll be happy too.

    Thank you for mentioning the passing of Canadian acting great Gordon Pinsent and the movie "Away From Her". The movie was based on Alice Munro's short story "The Bear Came Over The Mountain" which I had read earlier and then was curious when the movie came out. Pinsent and Christie were wonderful but also rarely mentioned is Olympia Dukakis's performance as 'the other man's wife". RIP another Canadian legend Gordon Pinsent.

    I was surprised the local AMC didn't open the big house up for Cocaine Bear, instead keeping Ant Man in there.
    The other AMC here in SF will be showing RRR this coming week on a small screen too.

    I don't understand why Angela Bassett is the frontrunner just because she won the Golden Globe. Everyone says the Golden Globes mean nothing, but she wins, and then most people proclaim her the frontrunner. I'm not saying she won't win, but she hasn't won anything from people who actually vote for the Oscars. The response to Jamie Lee Curtis at SAG indicates she has a lot more support than prognosticators give her credit for.

    • @anujpramanik1819
      @anujpramanik1819 Рік тому

      I think it's because of the career narrative Bassett has and how many people consider her not winning the 1993 best actress award, a 'snub' retroactively. She also won the critics choice award and the HCAA over the weekend btw, so it's not just the Golden Globes.

    • @cmleidi
      @cmleidi Рік тому

      @@anujpramanik1819 She was seen as a frontrunner right after the Globes though. I think you're right it is the narrative that drove it, but it feels pundit based right now rather than Oscar voter based. SAG should have been a slum dunk for Angela Bassett, so that's why I wonder if the support within the voting bodies is not as fervent as it is within the critics awards.

    Quantumania's 69.9% drop was technically bigger than BvS's 69.1% 2nd wkend drop. Only Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows P2 with 72% has a bigger 2nd wkend drop for movies with a $100m+ domestic opening. Shouldn't be surprising though given its historically low (for the MCU) B CinemaScore & 75% PostTrak Score!
    The MCU brand is still so strong that it's going to take not 1 or 2 but at least 3 consecutive box office flops for them to feel genuine panic. Despite very mixed reviews, DS 2 ($956m) & Thor 4 ($761m) w/o China & Russia still outperformed DS 1 ($544m) & Thor 3 ($715m). NWH w/o China did $1.92bn compared to FFH's $927m. Even BP 2 and the unique circumstances that movie went through still grossed $860m! All it takes is good reviews & box office for GotG 3 & also good reviews for Secret Invasion & Loki S2 this year and ppl will move on to talking about something else!

    lmao, you know, I often asked why Universal Florida had the Marvel section back in the 90s. Apparently Marvel made a deal BEFORE Disney where they can't set up a park below the "Mason Dixon line". At least there are Mutants in Florida, bwa wa wa waaaaaaaa No really, they have Storm and Wolverine at Universal Florida.

    Comedy is universal. A good joke is a good joke, whether in front of a good/bad crowd or simply hanging with your friends.
    If as a comedian you feel the need to move to Austin so certain (insert topic) jokes may land better with the local crowd, maybe you're not as funny as you thought? People get offended everywhere, following Rogan to a less critical local crowd doesn't make your set funnier.

    EEAAO is such an overrated movie. It really is the Emperors new Clothes of this Awards Season. Tar, Banshees, Top Gun and Women Talking outclass it in every aspect. I hope the international voters prevent it from Winning Best Picture.

      They are moving there for two reasons
      1. Joe Rogan and his clout
      2. Texas is cheaper to live in than California (because of taxes) and Austin is the closest they can feel like to a similar place.

    • @Locusto199

    Are you guys worried about the Oscar ratings trend the last few years?

      @Gavin48 except the Jab wasn't rushed out. How can people be this ignorant still in 2023? It's been in development for decades. Anyway my point still stands, people who choose their poison by eating foods with ingredients you can't even pronounce nor define, are living in glass houses.
