    Just want to thank you! I have a '78 242gt and not a car person at alllllll.....you've given me a glimmer of possibility i might be able to adjust my own belts! Love your energy, and the kiddos and cat!

      Thanks! They’re good cars but they take work like everything that’s old, good luck with the GT

    Thanks for explaining. I never understood the purpose of the multi piece crank pulleys on the early cars until now.

    The AC pulley tensioning setup will be familiar to air cooled VW guys. Everyone else now has this clear, simply-explained video to help them understand.
    This is really good. Accessible information like this helps keep a lot of bricks on the road instead of cubed and melted.

      Thanks for the compliment, also I did not know the air cooled motors had a similar set up, that’s good to know too

      I guess I’ll have to shoot a video for the b230 too, they’re a little less tricky

    Thank you for your helpful video. I have an 86’ 245.... the belt configuration is the same but has tensioners on the power steering pump and a/c . There were some differences on the 86’ but your video was a useful guide and I was able to change all 4 belts successfully. I appreciate how you are able to make a clear video, articulate the process simply, work on your car, and most importantly communicate with your kids in a patient loving way while you’re doing it. Much respect. Thanks again.

  • @jakebushman9435
    @jakebushman9435 3 роки тому +1

    This probably sounds dumb, but when installing the ac belt do you sandwich the belt between the two plates and install is as a single pulley, or do you put the back plate on, spacers, belt and bolt the top plate over it?

    • @240rescue
      @240rescue  3 роки тому +1

      That’s not a dumb question, in the video you can see how I do it, I assemble and torque the crank pulley assembly by itself and stretch the belt onto it afterward

      @@240rescue thank you so much, I have all the belts, my car has an AC delete kit (was installed long before I bought the car) so that v belt connects up to my power steering. I've been intimidated to do the job but that was the one section I was struggling with, thanks for making it super easy!

    At 11:28, how did you get the belt on far enough to the point you could turn it and snap it on? I tried doing that and I ended up breaking my belt a little bit :(
    Life saving video though, thank you so much for posting!

    • @240rescue
      @240rescue  9 місяців тому

      The 6 fasteners that hold the pulley to the crank are small and can strip and or break, make sure they’re good before cranking on them

    The part where the belt goes on, do you clean it, it looks like it has surface rust,

    Hey there! Always wanted to know are this numbers on the orange sticker on the belt cover.

    • @240rescue
      @240rescue  3 роки тому +1

      The numbers designated the last 3 digits of the engine number and stand for what type of engine it was and possibly what transmission combination so the factory knew which car to put it in. The 846, 847, 944, and 945 all mean a 1984 B23 and I’m assuming a with a M46 transmission, the green books should have a more detailed list

    • @240rescue
      @240rescue  3 роки тому +1

      The 500s should be correct for 77, my 77 is 516, but it’s not uncommon for timing covers to have been switched around or motors swapped, such as in my ‘75 in the video

    Are these engines non interference?

    • @240rescue
      @240rescue  Рік тому

      All the US redblocks running their stock 8v head and stock cams should be non interference, overseas had b200 that is interference I believe, and once you start changing the cam to more lift you run the risk of it being interference too

    Hey great videos. Have you ever experienced a water leak from what appears to be a freeze plug?? I have a 1982 244 Volvo that I am trying to fix I am in San Antonio to by the way, new subscriber👍

      That’s close by, I also have an 82 244, but haven’t made a video about it yet. I have not personally experienced a leaking freeze plug but I have seen it happen on other 240s, did this happen during the last big freeze?

    • @ecirlos4902

      Probably, it is sitting in my garage, like for 5 years, it was running before I noticed a noise from the transmission mount and I stop it. Now it won’t start. Just change the timing belt and water pump. I think I have a gas problem. Any chance you can take a look? 😁 Keep up those great videos they help a lot. Do some on that 1982👍👍

      Fuel pumps seem to be good I hear them run but I think there is a problem with the k-jet tronic like you mentioned. You don’t know a mechanic that can work on this cars over here in San Antonio? I can’t find a good one. Thanks for the reply. Hey come and do a video of my Volvo😁 it’s in my garage with good space to work on and for a video.
