    Those strong deliveries in China are fighting stiff headwinds. Joblessness is up, foreign capital is fleeing, and China is in a real estate, banking and public debt crisis that looks like Enron x 1000. Consumer spending is anemic. Yet Tesla can still set minor sales records. Really, it's kind of astonishing.
    Thanks for your reporting, Rob.

    One thing I have not heard regarding Steer-By-Wire is how easy it would be to implement it in left and right hand drive vehicles. You can put the steering wheel anywhere when you don't need a steering column. Since they don't use driver side instrument panel, they can even design a vehicle with a dual mount and move the steering wheel to either side as needed.

    6:30 As the pack bears some of the structure of the car now, it's arguable that the pack energy density is higher than stated is it's energy/weight rather than energy/(function's weight)

    • @celeron55
      @celeron55 5 місяців тому +1

      This is very true. If the goal was to get the pack's energy density as high as possible, the pack would be way lighter. But then the vehicle would require more structure, negating all that. It barely makes sense to do any of these comparisons.

    6:38 I understand the cell level lower energy density for the 4680 w.r.t. 2170 which is approx 7% lower, but why the pack level density is approx 12% lower. Isn't the structural pack design supposed to help offset some of the energy density loss at cell level? With 800V architecture and minimum wiring and the glued structural design with reduced casing, I was expecting much better figure. Can anyone highlight on this?

    Rob - WHY is NO ONE asking Tesla about SILICONE anodes in conference calls?? It's like the main thing at battery day years ago and now we have no news on it. Meanwhile, other companies are prepping next generation density platforms. I can't imagine Tesla would be a lagger here, but with Amprius across the street (physically) showing off 500 wh/kg with sub 8 min recharge ability (using silicone anodes) it seems we're not getting what we expected by now. Any news specifically on this feature? It's a big deal. My hope is they can't talk about 5 min charge time batteries until they are all in with it, otherwise it may hurt current sales maybe.

    Once this tech is matured alongside all the supply chain the compact will take both those technologies.
    It's roadster all over again.
    And the fact that it's a utility vehicle makes it the platform that can excuse the design resulting from this form follows function approach.

    I have not heard much on the semi for quite a while, which is a little disappointing. I'm wondering if they are purposefully delaying the ramp-up so they can integrate some of the CT tech into the semi (e.g. drive by wire, 48v, etc.). 1ST RUN OF CYBERTRUCKS IS TOO CHEAP. BUYERS HIT THE JACK POT

  • @hillmans69
    @hillmans69 5 місяців тому +1

    Business owners will look at the functionality, cost of ownership, purchase price, longevity, fueling cost, maintenance costs and it is a no-brainer from a business point of view. They will also love having their advertising on the side and back of this attention-getting (screams "futuristic") bad-ass vehicle. Draws eyes like an eye magnet!
    The Cybertruck is designed to last a million miles, body and motors and battery. All other pickups 250,000 to 333,333 miles. Tundra averages 150,000 to 250,000. Multiply other pickup prices by three or four when comparing cost.
    Now that we know Tesla has implemented a Range Extender Battery (REB) and its associated data/power/cooling, Tesla and/or the Aftermarket *will* (bet on it!) add to this capability. How does it connect to the Cybertruck? Permanent or quick disconnect? Can't wait to see this in a Munro teardown! Does anybody know if Tesla and/or SpaceX has engineered and open patented a new standard quick disconnect trailer connector that implements data/power/cooling? A quick disconnect will enable rentals of REBs and permanent trailer-mounted REBs. Will they be able to be fork-liftable and quickly installed by rental companies such as U-Haul? Will they be able to be trailer mounted? Different configurations, dimensions and capacities? Trailer rooftop solar chargeable? I have only one trailer I tow, but I'd love to add an under-trailer REB so I don't suffer any range penalty when towing it. Thousands, if not millions, of RV trailers would benefit from this. No noisy, stinky, fossil-fueled generator!
    Cybertruck w/FSD on a job site and need some materials pronto? Online or phone in the order and send the Cybertruck, BY ITSELF, to pick up the order while your entire crew keeps working. Priceless. Salesreps that make calls? Have to do paperwork and proposals in your vehicle? Do them while the vehicle is driving itself and you to your next appointment.
    Two years late? Anybody remember what happened just after the November 2019 unveiling, called the Covid-19 global pandemic that totally screwed up the entire planet's schedules? Plant shutdowns. Lockdowns. No in-person team meetings. Death and destruction.
    Cybertruck is revolutionary? The next generation (colloquially known as the Model 2) vehicle, at $25k, will blow the world away! It's in development now (production line planning according to Elon), for initial production at Giga-Texas, followed by Giga-Mexico (second), Giga-Berlin, and the next Giga-Shanghai once the "unboxed" manufacturing technique is perfected at HQ in Austin, TX. Other Giga-factories to follow for Model 2 production? Giga-India? Giga-Brazil? Giga-Spain (for Africa deliveries of Model 2s)? Giga-Indonesia? Time will tell.

      Not hype. Each car model, and each production line teaches them a little more and each one incorporates more of what they learned with the goal to bring production up and costs down. It's a learning process though and they have now learned enough they think they can make a cheap car and still sell it as a good margin meaning they have brought production up to a high point of efficiency. The machine that makes the machine.

      i'll give him this, and it's why i sank a lot of money into tesla back in 2012, he realized that battery technology had finally reached a level that made it's use feasible as the primary power source for an automobile and the wherewithal to make it happen. as for the other stuff, he's simply indulging himself by trying to make good, without reason, on his childhood images of the future.
