Immense opposition to him agreeing that Jews conspire to divide the west? Elon would be respected if he didn’t go on ketamine benders and say horrible stuff online weekly
Regarding the date for the new smaller car. Elon: "the first production line will be in Texas... it would take too long to complete the factory in Mexico". Sounds like if you know when the factory is going to be finished, you can infer that the smaller car will be in production by that date.
As a stockholder, I am so glad Elon finally learned to say "unfortunately because we're a publicly traded company I cannot comment on things that would have a material impact on our financials".
Wow! Elon has really learned to be careful when talking to the medias. "We're a public company I cannot comment on things that could have impacts on our financials" Good job sir, very professional!
Too bad he can’t use his own advice and apply that to Twitter. Maybe it would have saved his company hundreds of millions in ad revenue. Elon is a clown.
Thanks for the interview Sandy and the team! While I really appreciate this, I wish Sandy would've given Elon more time to speak, it so rare we're getting technical interviews with him
I'm not going to pretend I am great at interviewing people, but it was hard to watch Mr Munroe occasionally interrupt or talk over the person he was supposed to be interviewing. It's still an interesting interview, but if he wants my constructive criticism I would vote to let the interviewee spend at least twice as long talking as the interviewer. I think Fresh Air on NPR is a good example of guiding a conversation but letting the interviewee do most of the talking.
I like Sandy, I really do and watch a lot of his episodes. If I were to give him some advice when interviewing someone, I'd say don't tell us about you, let your guest talk as much as they want about themselves, and then ask them a simple questions that allows them to add more detail. No disrespect to Sandy, interviewing is a learned skill.
Agreed. I listened to this thinking we'd hear more from the person being interviewed, Elon Musk. Instead we heard a lot from Sandy, which is awesome, but there are a lot of other videos of Sandy talking, but not as many of Elon talking technology.
This felt like a chat between two engineering personalities more than an interview, and because of that I actually enjoyed it more than just a regular interview.
I don’t know many CEOs that can talk that engineering to the detail he does. Impressive, I’ve been doing engineering for 40 years and it’s really hard to keep abreast of so much.
LMFAO, Elon is a great example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. Level of ass-kissing here is insane - I mean going on about how he could wash the wing mirrors to stop them fogging up? WTF? Every Lexus I've owned since the 90's has had sonic demisters on the wing mirrors!
Note Elon's incredible interviewing skill here - just by a few select words said the entire time, he kept Sandy talking the entire time. A rare interviewer skill lol.
I would love to see Elon do something really radical. He has the ability to bring out retrofit kits to fit existing older pickup trucks. A kit for an F150 would also fit the Expedition and Navigators. The kits would sell like mad if priced around 15K.
Unfortunately Sandy's enthusiasm got the better of him 🙂it was fun to see him melt over Elon and the Cybertruck, but it made for a very poor interview/discussion. Thank you for the content as always and keep up the good work !
@@mini2nut67 I loved the topics, but yeah it was more fluff and "why is nobody else doing it" than the Hagerty video that went into the details and the how/why, etc. And then when Nazi Germany comparisons are noted..... ironically not about the person playing in antisemitic conspiracies, time to get some fresh air.
The way they were talking was kind of annoying. Sandy was saying "for me" and "I have a question" a lot. And sandy seems to be nervous. Just talk normally.
Yep ... and does anyone think an authoritarian government would allow Space X to launch rockets to orbit or Tesla to build the CT? Want to end SpaceX, end democracy; it is that simple. The US government (we the taxpayers) acted as Venture Capitalists, investing in both of Elon's big wins. We were Space X's first customers and lender to Tesla (as well an all kinds of subsidies for EV generally). That VC pick was a winner. SpaceX and Tesla build great products, employ many Americans and pay lots of taxes. Note 1: It is OK to shut the fuck up about things you do not know about Sandy and 2: It is OK to say something nice about government. ... they ended with allusions to a civil war. ... that would be a really bad outcome for the economy and products that we aspire to buy and enjoy owning.
I love how Sandy gets Elon to interview and somehow gets to the point where Elon gets to hear that Sandy hasn't been to the chiropractor in over a year-no wait a year and a half now. 😂😂😂 Really cracked me up. Elon had the patience of God.
This is a trip. Elon's demeanor and patience is crazy with everything going on rn. Shows how much respect he has for Sandy. Seems a bit like a missed opportunity tho given lack of prep/focus.
Elon Musk copies things that were developed 100 years ago.... However, it has not yet reached the level of 100 years ago because 100 years ago people had replaceable batteries in their cars!
The Hagerty video made my jaw drop on how much the Cybertruck advanced the art of the truck. Thankful for another juicy video to sink my teeth into. The world needs to know the story behind those hardworking engineers(incl Elon)
@@Trahloc checked out the Carmudgen show as well where he went into greater detail. Feel so bad for the engineers, when u see his passion for the CT. Especially when people pre-decide, without really knowing what went into the vehicle.

Back in 1992-ish, I was lucky to work with Sandy on the C-17 cargo jet. Sandy showed us engineers how to reduce part count on assemblies. This was a big part of us reducing the cost of the aircraft by $50M per unit.
@@danapeck5382 It was fun. Sandy is a change agent. So am I. He was getting some blowback in terms of his suggestions. He and I were discussing this. We did formal classes on reducing part count. DFMA. Design for Manufacturing and Assembly. The engineers loved it. We did literally thousands of redesign projects. I was working with a team on the Electrical Power Centers. Those are the cabinets behind the pilots. Has all of the circuit breakers and other electrical equipment. One of them had 400+ parts and when we finished, it was reduced to around 80 parts.
This is completely untrue, and the cost of the vehicle is much higher than was initially suggested, along with the range significantly decreased, and negative sentiments behind Elon Musk these days, I don't see a truck like this gaining any significant popularity. Lastly, if he wants to appeal to right-wing folk, a 100 thousand dollar electric truck, is probably not the way you do that.

Then you tried to be disingenuous by only mentioning the top tier 100K truck. You do know for makes a 109K Raptor right? You do know the average price for a truck in america is 59K right? Lowest model CyberTruck is 60k minus the 7500 tax credit and you are at 53k. & tesla can further lower prices as they ramp production.

It went off the rails so freakin’ fast LOL - and this really highlight just how unhinged it suddenly became. Sandy needs to take his meds 😅 It’s not even the opinion - it’s just that it is so out of place from the preceding interview.
As a slightly younger man of Sandy’s generation and an Engineering and electronics technician I have met too many of the problems that Sandy has encountered on our way forward. It’s very rewarding for many of us to see the Company’s that Elon Builds thriving and its by those recommendations of people such as Sandy encouraging the way we consider a better and faster way forward. I was so hoping this interview was going to be like the other Sandy Elon interview, which was tremendous. Sandy seemed totally unprepared and there was so much engineering talk he could have had here with Elon, but it just did not happen.
agreed. this interview was pretty uneventful and honestly kind of a waste of time. no substantial info or talk about 4680s...i have a million questions i'd love to ask him, but instead sandy was rambling about his chiropractor
Sandy is having a senior moment. He’s here to interview Elon and does 80% of the talking instead of letting your guest speak. Even when you ask questions, you then try to answer them and make guesses instead of just letting him to tell you lol. Sorry to say, but this is just 45 minutes of ego stroking and gushing. Would’ve love to hear some more challenging questions and some actual talking from Elon instead of him, just shaking his head yes as your ramble on. But you’re still the man !
But if you let that client speak, it turns into a pr disaster and a s#t show for revenue and business relationships. Sandy was threading the needle, drifting like a pro to keep that on track and had the balls to do what he did at the end. #teamsandy
Yeah, unfortunately he always does this when interviewing Elon. I want to hear more from Elon, like it'd be very interesting to hear more about the ethernet bus, does it use 2-wire, is it PoE, etc. Instead, it's mostly Sandy talking, and he doesn't even do follow-up based on what Elon says.
It was cringy to say the least. The guy should have had more interesting questions. I’m assuming it’s really late, he’s running on fumes and Elon being a crazy workaholic said hey let’s do it now. And he couldn’t pass up the opportunity. But yeah. Was not a very good interview and a sad waste of 45minutes for Elon
It's awesome to see Elon in these moments where he kind of relaxes and gives us insight into how he thinks and just how insightful yet rational he is. The breadth of knowledge he can draw upon from memory at any given time is insane, and you can tell that his mind is turning faster than a drill bit on autopilot because you almost hear computing
That is the beauty of being on the spectrum. Elon is only working it well to his advantage. When you harness the power of autism and are extremely high functioning, you can deliver very critical information and process thought in ways other cannot. We tend to take the human element out of it and take a more logical approach on thought when it comes to reciting knowledge. However, we are very awkward socially and sometimes say things off the cuff without thought. The downfall of being on the spectrum.
@@yashabaral9302 It make me laugh a lot. It's look like some random discussions in a bar in the middle of nowhere 😅. If you are interested in bad decisions that causes catastrophic collapse I would consider to check what's going on on Twitter rather than using some historical examples that you don't understand.
I feel like Sandy could have asked a dozen more specific questions about the CyberTruck and the ramping of 4680 batteries which goes hand in hand with CyberTruck production. Instead he hit sidetracked so many times. I wish Corey was there.
Love this. I tried the deep dive with 5 Tesla Executives. I love that Tesla Execs are taking time to do interviews and deep dives, but I can barely understand what those guys are saying. Made me appreciate how Elon always tries to make technical stuff understandable to the rest of us non-Engineers. So, here I am.
I love listening to Sandy and learning a lot of interesting points from him in each video. I also appreciate him for thanking Elon for being like a rock. Having said that, I would prefer to hear more from Elon about Cybertruck. I wish Sandy had managed the time better.
Mr. Musk and Mr. Munro, thank you so much for your discussion as well as your contribution to our society and environment. Integrity, honesty and hard work is required to make our society whole again. I hope and pray everyone else realizes what is truly important in life and acts accordingly!!!
The way Jim Farley is behaving lately, I would not be surprised if Ford and Tesla announce a HUGE partnership soon. Jim's a down to earth guy who is a patriot for his company and he doesn't want to see it go down because of bad business decisions. The F150 lightning is a good car, but their losses are catastrophic. Only Tesla can bring them back on track. I don't often, but I have massive respect for Farley and how he's been chomping down on humble pie.
Sandy, thank you for what you do. Please ask questions engineer to engineer next time you get an interview with Elon. This interview could of been an extremely unique deep dive into the engineering much like the 48 volt and ethernet part of the interview. There is possibly no-one who could talk to what it means when Elon says "production is hard" than you. Possibly your NDA kept you from having these discussions but walking the body in white with him would of been amazing.
I'm still confused why they have ethernet running about in the vehicle. Do you need ethernet to power speakers? I don't get it. Isn't running ethernet to speakers unnecessarily complicated? They said that they reduced wire weight by 82% with the 48 volt system. 400% more voltage, means you can drop the wire size dramatically, in addition to the CAT6 ethernet wire acting to communicate with everything, drops the wire harness requirements from 450 wires down to about 150 wires on the Cybertruck wiring harness. Watch the new Munro video just released with the Tesla engineering team! It was AMAZING!
Elon explained why, in just a few words, his companies are just burying the competition. He said in effect "a manager needs to understand the product.". So many managers understand accounting and law, but can't tell the difference between a Axle and a Ax.
Thanks so much Sandy for this interview! You got it on the head.... it's all about leadership. Elon said that the CT was not a "bet the company" vehicle and that is what allowed them to experiment. My guess is that OEMs see each qtr's financial performance as "betting the company" and that is why they cannot innovate, or if they do it's glacial speed. OEM management needs to learn how to risk failure again. They can't seem to and instead think that using R&D money for stock buy backs is more efficacious. Look for Mary Barra to retire by end of next year. She is pumping the stock to maximize her yearly bonus... then she will sell all she can at the higher price too. Get ready to see her congratulate her leadership on "saving GM" then she'll leave before GM's assured demise.
its not the same for established OEM's, they have multiple vehicle lineups bringing in money, they are not at any point betting the company on a single model.
I have not driven Cybertruck, but I got to see it at the Tesla store in Bethesda, MD two days ago. It is absolutely stunning beyond what I have seen in photos and videos. It is amazing!
wrong it looks stupid. Honestly I was like who ever thought this was a good idea. Nothing good about this product. He claims its better in ever way to every car and or truck. Better towing then a 3500 diesels, faster then a sports car, cheaper then a honda civic , more reliable then toyota? better looking then a alfa? Hosnestly elon what have you done to make the car business better?

I kind of wish Sandy would prepare a little bit before these interviews to have a series of engineering centric questions, because unfortunately, I think he talked a little bit too much in this interview, and understandably I would to if I were sitting down with Musk, but I would be more interested to hear more about the engineering and how/why certain decisions were made.
Great tangents that were good, and valid. But it did get overbearing when he started naming all the ancient empires that collapsed, back when we didn't even copper wires or glass. I was just thinking how rude people are when they interview Elon. It seems that people forget that he's the richest man in the world, and a genius. They end up wanting to lecture him like a child.. Joe Rogan did the same thing as Sandy, if I remember right.
Back in the early 90's at university we built prototype 2 wire data/power systems for cars, with a small IC at each corner. Our profersors had showed off a mark 3 escort (when the mark 3 was new in the mid 80's) to ford with a small tupperware sized container in each corner with a similar system - they scared the engineers by having driven the experimental car to them, not trailered it!

Absolutely riveting interview! It's a breath of fresh air to see engineers taking center stage in discussing groundbreaking vehicle developments. Elon Musk's approach, reminiscent of the bold moves of historical figures like Henry Ford, is a testament to the power of innovative leadership in the automotive industry. This conversation underscores a critical point: true innovation often requires stepping away from conventional corporate strategies, like quarterly financial performance, and daring to embrace risks. It's this kind of forward-thinking and risk-taking that has set Tesla apart, particularly in manufacturing innovation. It's not just about the vehicles themselves but the revolutionary production lines like the one planned for Model 2. This discussion also opens up intriguing questions about future integrations of advanced technologies like steer-by-wire in upcoming models. Kudos to Sandy for such a well-conducted interview, shedding light on the intricate blend of engineering brilliance and visionary leadership driving today's automotive revolution!
Perhaps a naïve DESIGN question ….. why no charging port up front, like a Rivian R1T? If you have an up-front charging port, then hauling a trailer on an EV road trip wouldn’t be such a horror story. With the exception of 1 charging station in Tennessee with 4 pull-thru stalls …. every charging station I’ve ever seen (in real life or photos, in North America), one has to detach the trailer AND park the trailer somewhere BEFORE being able to pull the EV into the charging stall …. because the charging port is in the rear of the EV … and a hooked-up trailer blocks a rear charging port. Don’t trucks pull trailers on road trips more than once in a blue moon?
Sandy, your awsome. Speaking your mind anbd sticking to your principals, this is the difference between people who love their country and people who just love themselves.
I think it depends on what the principal is. For instance, if you believe slavery should be brought back and you stick to that principle or belief, I'm not going to commend you on sticking to your principles.
This is the Elon I know. Great technical dive in, and excellent discussion with the master himself, Sandy. He seems well rested, focused and no doubt, Tesla is changing the world of making EVs which will earn it's place in history.
Elon has cemented his place in history with Tesla and SpaceX. The Cyber Truck was meant to make a statement and look at it, people just can't stop talking about it on social media. That in itself has brought more attention and eyes on Tesla than any other car manufacture has done in decades. I can't wait to see more vehicles from Tesla using the CT technology. It will bring the car industry out of its 40 years of stagnant technology. For the big automakers, get on board or be left behind! Thanks for the short but insightful interview Sandy and Elon.
It was a joy seeing how comfortable Papa Elon was being interviewed by Sandy. It was also clear as day the respect and acknowledgment they had for each others accomplishments. My big takeaway was actually the very last part confirming the brutal work ethic Elon has where, even on such a momentous occasion such as the official launch of an important and dear to his heart product, that he still didn't have time to pause and smell the roses.
This is the kind of interview that Elon geeks have being waiting to watch! Sick of X questions! And this was the first time I saw Elon leave before the interviewer and Sandy offered him a job!! That was hilarious! ❤

While I really appreciate this, I wish Sandy would've given Elon more time to speak, it so rare we're getting technical interviews with him
I think Sandy did fine, I appreciate his insights, I also recognize he was probably a little punchy and tired before he started this interview.

Because idiot Space Karen doesn't know anything technical.

Point taken! However, Elon is typically not talkative... rarely get full sentences from him.

I would love to see Elon do something really radical. He has the ability to bring out retrofit kits to fit existing older pickup trucks. A kit for an F150 would also fit the Expedition and Navigators. The kits would sell like mad if priced around 15K.

Agreed. I learned nothing new about the Cybertruck after this interview. It was basically a lot of fluff.

The way they were talking was kind of annoying. Sandy was saying "for me" and "I have a question" a lot. And sandy seems to be nervous. Just talk normally.
Yeah, I know Sandy isn't a media professional but this seemed like a big missed opportunity
Yep ... and does anyone think an authoritarian government would allow Space X to launch rockets to orbit or Tesla to build the CT?

@@danapeck5382 It was fun. Sandy is a change agent. So am I. He was getting some blowback in terms of his suggestions. He and I were discussing this. We did formal classes on reducing part count.

Ya this was a total missed opportunity.

This post may be prophetic.
That is a fairly accurate assessment.

This is great! How many other CEO's can talk about the technology of their product line, especially in the Automotive industry!
Zero. Most CEO are finance people who review and report numbers to the board/shareholders. The few who aren’t are basically sales people who are good are presenting stuff and making the results look better than they really are.
Great discussion, thankyou both. Interesting that of all the advances in future products that Elon chose to say was revolutionary was not a vehicle but the next generation production line they will use for the Model 2. A great reminder that Tesla's best USP and the one that's hardest to replicate by any other EV manufacturer including BYD is their manufacturing innovation and prowess.
Elon sandbagged the gen 3 platform as they've been doing for some time. Surprised some of what Sandy didn't know like the pilot next gen to be in TX.
The only "revolution" is in the doing, talk is great... The open box system has been around, just not implemented.
The machine that builds the machine...
BYD still make more EVs than Tesla and just as good.

The Mexico plant is delayed because of cost of capital and on the master plan part 3 day they discussed the cyber truck as a test bed for the V3 architecture with 48 volt plus new larger castings
This was not what I was expecting haha. I was hoping for more of a technical deep dive with honest and critical feedback
Legal difficulties there, too.

Great insights Elon Musk was able to get from Munro. Kudos!
I'm going to save the 1.2 million people some time: Don't watch this one, watch the other new Munro video on this channel with ALL the Tesla engineers at Tesla--just released today--it's PURE gold.
Great work sandy and also your awesome team
Thanks so much

Some hard hitting questions there Sandy. I'm glad to see honesty and not shying away from hard topics!
I can always count on your channel and always have to get the scoop. So much respect for you both!

The American constitution, not a new world order agenda.@@JasonWW2000
This is the Elon I know. Great technical dive in, and excellent discussion with the master himself, Sandy. He seems well rested, focused and no doubt, Tesla is changing the world of making EVs which will earn it's place in history.
Super exciting! And I'm grateful for the honesty that Munro couldn't hold back at the end.
I have been waiting for this, thanks team!
Hope you enjoyed it!
16 minutes into this interview and I'm learning alot from these two men. Great talk!
This is the kind of interview that Elon geeks have being waiting to watch! Sick of X questions!
And this was the first time I saw Elon leave before the interviewer and Sandy offered him a job!! That was hilarious! ❤
That job offer joke was cringe
He left because this man was wasting his time. He just cut him off and was like 👋 bye
I am very glad Sandy talked about the social issues at the end, we all need to vocally support someone who is willing to stand on principle.
I think it depends on what that principle is.
Sandy always hitting it out of the ballpark with his Elon Musk interviews, thanks Sandy!
The conversation at the end was the most interesting part. Great guys both of them
Great video as always! Glad we got confirmation from Elon that next gen vehicle will be engineered in Texas. I think most already knew this. What a time to be alive🎉
It is still hard to believe the CyberTruck has steer by wire! Simply mind blowing!
Meh, I'm not that crazy about it. I'd rather have real steering.
@@themonsterunderyourbed9408
Wdym real steering? Hydraulics which do exactly the same thing?
Might as well ask for no power steering and tear your deltoids trying to turn the damn thing.
@@themonsterunderyourbed9408Why? It is the best feature of it. It is the future. No need for mechanical linkages is nice.
The feedback system needs to be good. That is what I'm curious about the most. Being able to feel the road is important.
I have no doubts it would be safer. Other companies are doing it, but STILL HAVE mechanical linkages which just doubles the complexity, and is stupid. Either go full wire or go mechanical.
I just hope they don't nickle and dime people with "optional" updates that give you better steering feedback or something like that.
I haven't seen anyone take it offroad yet. Waiting for a rally driver to get their hands on the best version with the Tri Motors.
Also they better update it to do 360 turns and crabwalk.
Edit - Sorry if I sounded combative. I am actually generally curious on why people are against it.
Many people actually forget that the First EV to have Steer by Wire is actually the Lexus RZ 450e since 2022, i always wondered why Tesla used a joke WITHOUT Steer by Wire, a joke is perfect for it, more than a steering wheel, which is more for direct steering.
@@themonsterunderyourbed9408 Have you tried it?
This was less of an interview, and more of two friends chatting. I enjoyed it, but I wonder how much more we could have learned if it was an interview.

I think there was a lot more engineering stuff Sandy could have asked about, but I’m really glad he talked about the stuff he “wasnt supposed to”. It seems like Elon was interested in the subject as well.

It's nice to hear how enthusiastic Sandy is about the technically sensible innovations in the Cybertruck that Elon has finally implemented through his power. As an engineer, I would probably have talked too much and asked too little. But I would certainly have asked this, my main concern: When will the time come for 4 wheel motors to provide the drive?
For off road vehicles hopefully never. Dual motor with mechanically locking differentials allow you to get more power and torque to any single wheel.
Unsprung weight is no good. That’s why it’s not being done.
I love sandy reserved excited demeanor! I’m sure this channel have added 10 years to his lifespan
Great conversation. I liked it Sandy. Thanks. Even Billionaires need to be able to have a back and forth conversation and listen to another engineer. Nothing wrong with this.
I like how Sandy kept dropping hints of wanting to get his hands on 2 cyber beasts. I was waiting for Elon to say, Well, since you done so much for us unofficially. I might be able to arrange a couple CT’s to show up at your facility.
It would be a lot easier to invite him into the factory
