    When I'm using wheat & oats I'll change the potential gravity received on beersmith of each of these adjuncts from 1.035 to 1.025 because its always rated higher for some reason I read this in multiple brew books ... fun brewing

    Looks great. 90min mash might help with mash efficiency since a high amount of flaked grains were used. They’re not capable of self-conversion so needs a little more time in the mash for enzymes from other grains to act on them.

      @HomeBrewNetwork  Рік тому +1

      This is true though it can also break down the sugars you're trying to keep if temps aren't accurately maintained. I do 75-90 mashes for my low carb beers and some lagers, bruts etc. Cheers!

    Just had my first glass of this out of my tap. Absolutely delicious, never been able to get much aroma out of my beers in the 3 years I've been brewing, but this has big time aroma. Thanks Gash it's everything I've always wanted in a homebrew. Ended up getting good pre boil gravity so I didn't end up using the Dextrose

    Recent homebrew starter here. Really enjoying your walkthroughs and perspectives. I've learnt more in one video than the endless trawling of the internet. I won't lie, i'm refreshing youtube twice a day for the Hopstomper brew (even though i'm subscribed and have notifications on!). We used to live near Stomping Ground and the Hopstomper is my absolute favourite IPA. Its balance of flavour is my idea of the ideal brew. My wife had some shipped to QLD for me for my bday (bless her) and it's only made my heart grow fonder. So needless to say, i'm chomping at the bit to learn how to make a clone. Big appreciation for your passion and consistency in sharing your videos over the years. There is truly a treasure trove of learning and discovery in all of your uploads.

    Great vid thanks! I've noticed the same problems using wheat and oats. I've heard that those adjuncts can coat the barley and cause less extraction from the barley. I wonder if it would be worth mashing the barley separate from the cereals then adding the two together. Seems like that would be a lot of work though.

    Another cracking vid, thanks Gash. I love london fog, but it does have some interesting qualities. It needs a slightly higher rest temp or will over-attenuate, seems to hug the top of the fermenter and not drop and definitely needs a week in keg before drinking for some reason before the hop aromas shine through. Having said that, it's a great cropping yeast, and can be used for a lot of styles. I'm currently on my fourth reuse making a brown ale

    Awesome video once again, thank you for sharing all your knowledge. As a new home brewer I am able to learn so much from these videos. I liked the whirlpool arm you created, I have one question. As you are in the southern hemisphere would your whirlpool be more effective if you set it in an anti-clockwise direction? Looks like yours is going clockwise. Keep them coming, I will definitely be trying one of these soon. Rob

    Hello!
    Some questions:
    - After putting the yeast, how many days pass until the first dryhopping?
    - How many days is the first dryhopping kept in the fermenter? At what temperature?
    - From the first dryhopping, how many days pass until the second dryhopping?
    - at what temperature do you do the second dryhopping?
    - How many days do you leave the second dryhopping in the fermenter.
    Thanks!!!

    Hi Gash, in Altona so great to see you using our local waters and vendors to brew!
    I noticed you corrected your gravity using Dextrose in this video. My Robobrew3 is habitually shy on gravity, 10 points sometimes, and I correct with Pilsner DME during the boil as I'm worried that I'm short on both flavour and sugars.
    Do you think I could go with just Dextrose as you did? Have you experience with correcting with DME?

  • @fulhamhomestead212
    @fulhamhomestead212 3 роки тому

    I brewed this the day after you put the video up and I had the same issues with being a few points down but I didn't add any dextrose so my final gravity was 5.4%. Flow was slowish but got there. Dry hopped for the first time which was pretty easy. Cold crashed and kegged it.
    OMG, what a fabulous brew full of aroma and flavour. Doing another one Friday the same but I will be prepared to add some Dex. I might have found our Fulham Homestead signature beer (FDDHNEIPA). Thankyou so much for sharing.

      I dont have that problem, I've never had a burnt brew in the brewzilla/robobrew the closest I get to one is actually with a lot of wheat or oats, I think thats just a lot of fine material settling down the bottom, but mine has never burnt.. Maybe you crush is too fine?? also only use the small element during the mash Cheers!

    Hey there thanks for a great video and especially sharing on Brewfather - that's how I came across this for my first go at a DDH NEIPA! I've got a stovetop brew fermenting now based on your steps. I just wanted to ask...your steps go straight from dry hopping to cold crash, do I not need to do a secondary fermentation with sugar? Maybe you add your own CO2 with a tank but a lot of the brews I've followed have a step for adding sugar in the fermenter and leaving for another 2 weeks. Cheers for any answer mate

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  2 роки тому

      Yes I carbonate with a CO2 bottle, no second ferment, NEIPAs do not like a second ferment. Cheers!

    Hey man, thanks for sharing. I'm new to your channel and AG brewing having cut my teeth on extract and partial grain the past 2 years.
    I brewed this yesterday (my third AG brew) on an electric single vessel I built myself. I was aiming for a 40L batch in the keg with around 45L in my unitank. That means about 56L pre-boil in my 15gal kettle, so a bit of a squeeze. I didn't get there in the end - I'm missing 5L I can't work out where they went - better luck next time. The learning curve is steep but fun.
    I used rolled oats instead of easy oats. I cooked them first but only until hey started to break apart - not porridge. I still didn't hit gravity and so added 300g of Dex and also extended the boil to 75 min and hit 1.060. Mash efficiency worked out at about 71%. I've hit 79-80% on my previous 2 brews (IPA) and so will try this again with the lower efficiency dialled in and no dex.
    Keep up the vids. Good to have solid homebrew content in this corner of the pacific.
    Cheers from nz.

    Hiya Gash, lovely beer mate!
    Quick question regarding water volumes.
    I'm aiming to do a 20L 6.6% ABV NEIPA (Brewzilla user) and Brewfather is telling me to use 25.3L mash water for my 6.18kg malt bill and sparge with only 4.1L water to get my total water to just over 29L. In this video your mash water was 21L and then you sparged up to 30L. Is this the approach you take with most of your beers? 20L mash water and sparge up to 30L? Do you tend to make your batch volume enough for a 19L keg?
    If I follow Brewfather and sparge with just 4.1L water I'm worried I will miss my numbers and my efficiency will be off. Don't suppose you have any words of wisdom/advice?
    Cheers.

Have I got the right idea or is the 35L the better way to go for this style of brew? Thanks and keep up the vids

      I'd go for the 65L gives you more options, although I do have a brand new in box 35L here for sale cheap if you're in Melbourne. Cheers!

    I find when I keg a beer it always tastes better one week later, also, I ordered a PH meter from Kegland I just got it the other day, it took 5 weeks to get here, I am in the Otway ranges, usually things take anywhere from 2 to 4 days to arrive, that bloody virus

    What days would you dry hop if you used kviek yeast along with what fermentation cycle/Temps would u go with for this recipe

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  3 роки тому

      Go in early, even when you pitch the yeast, but only if doing a decent pitch, if you're doing the very small pitch, maybe wait till next day for the first, then see how its going, if its roaring along maybe drop them all in, if its going ok then wait a day or two and then drop another in. Cheers!

    Are you cold crashing in a keg? I only just started really trying to put together some recipes, but since we're very limited in space at home, we're really just doing 1 gallon brews to figure things out. I'm still a bit unfamiliar with cold crashing, what is your process?

    Gash, just wondering how you sanitise your wort chiller? For an immersion chiller I add it to the boil for 15 min but if I run boiling wort through counterflow chiller I have to run the cold water through it to stop the rubber from melting/bursting!
    Smithy

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  3 роки тому +1

      Hot water shouldnt melt the rubber, it will make it softer, but you should never have pressure in the rubber pipe, never shut off the output at any time.
      I usually have 5 or 10l Ieft in my water heating pot (HLT) and I just hook it up and run 80-90c water through it while I'm mashing or boiling, just 15 to 20mins and thats all I do, at the end of boil I just switch it over to the Brewzilla.
      If you dont have a pump on your HLT you can do it beforehand, even the day before, if its cleaned and sanitised, it'll be fine, if your worried about bugs getting in it or something you cover the ends of the pipes, or just ditch the first cup of wort coming through into a jug or something then go straight into you fermenter.
      Cheers!

    Dude I thought something was wrong with my setup when you paused on the wheat malt. Maybe in future just add a paused symbol and the time that you are going to pause it for with a countdown of some sorts to let me know. Was honnestly looking at my GFX card and other parts when you paused the vid but the audio kept going.
    All in all thanks for the info. Cheers.

  • @nordlands8798
    @nordlands8798 3 роки тому

    I like that you describe every step of your process. However you talk about "dropping points", but as opposed to what? If you know that your efficiency is usually lower with flaked additions, why don't you dial in your efficiency for those recipes based on your experience? Btw. the addition of dextrose to make up for lower efficiency explains 1-2 points lower FG, I would have used DME for that purpose.

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  3 роки тому

      I dont use wheat often or flaked oats and usually this time forget to adjust while I'm making the recipe. I'd much rather use dextrose for a few points, just because it doesnt add anything except the points, where as LDME will add colour and some non fermentables, albeit small. I'd use LDME if thats all I had. Cheers!

    • @nordlands8798
      @nordlands8798 3 роки тому

      @@HomeBrewNetwork Thanks for the explanation, though I thought LDME would add approximately the same colour and unfermentable sugars as if you upped the base malt to compensate for lower efficiency? I guess it maybe tastes different though, I have not tried it as I have so far just increased or decreased my boil-off rate to partially compensate when I miss recipe targets, and try to adjust next time.

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  3 роки тому +1

      @@nordlands8798 LDME is a nightmare in a brewery, expensive and rarely used to make adjustments. Once you open a bag in a steamy brewery its use it all or toss it out. Of course at the home level it maybe be easier to store. Its just as highly processed as the Dex so there's no real advantage when you're just using it to adjust gravity. I don't think in all my years of brewing and breweries I dont think Ive ever seen a bag a of ldme laying around for adjustments, though regularly I see dex or even just sugar. I guess it comes down to my schooling too, it was one of the home brew myths we studied, there's lots around about simple sugars! Though I totally agree, if you have the time and space to adjust via extra boil that's a good way to do it! I think I'm so use to the limitations of single vessel brewing these days I just go with the flow! If it ever started ruining my beer then I'd take action :) Cheers!
