    Pitching on top of previous batch yeast cake and fermenting under pressure has taken my beers to a whole new level

    Brewed this one 5 weeks ago, and it came out amazing. 🍻 It's videos like this making myself a better brewer. No shortcuts for Lagers. 😅

    Cheers Gash! There is lots of difference between lagers for sure! Started studying for the BJCP certification program with last night's beer categories being "Pale Lagers". Praga Pils (Czech Premium Pale Lager) and Spaten Munchner Hell (Munich Helles) were my picks of the night. Beautiful balance between malt sweetness, hop flavour and aroma and bitterness.

    Thanks very much gash. Could you please put into some type of order about which you felt were the most important parts about making the lager. Such as: 1. Step mash. 2. Decoction. 3. Cold crashing technique etc. Please keep up the great work as it is much appreciated

    Thanks amigo, high quality content as usual. I’ve brewed a long time and just can’t get
    Myself to do a decoction, but you may have me convinced. The wheat is surprising. So is the hot whirpool, so you maintain it at 99-100c? Isn’t that just a boil addition then?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  3 місяці тому

      Just put the hops in and whirlpool, no need to keep the heat on. 99% of breweries do hot whirlpools, especially if it isn't an NEIPA. Cheers!

    Great video mate. Just wondering about your mash pH - it seems quite high for a pilsner. Is the pH impacted by the step mash or the decoction? Cheers

    Man, I love these videos thanks mate. What are your thought using Nova with the recipe? Assume it will compromise the end product as well?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork

      Yeah not quite the same though it's worth a try!

    • @fergalconnon3133
      @fergalconnon3133 Рік тому

      I was thinking the same thing. All the same steps except changing to novalager yeast with the added benefit of an easier fermentation. Cheers for the video Gash. So many worthy beers in Melbourne for this series.

  • @stevenmcmaster
    @stevenmcmaster Рік тому

    I thought the deconcoction had to have grain in the boil, which helped develop flavour from the starches still present in the barley germ.
    is this is process the same as its really only the wort that needs boiling before mash out. ie, with or without the grain doesnt matter.

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Рік тому

      There's many ways to achieve the outcome it actually doesn't have to boil at all, just hit 95c as I explained in the video. Also this video was of a first attempt with Gen4 not all went to plan as explained. I've brewed this beer many times in different ways now. Cheers!

    Hi mate you don't include acidulated malt in your recipe or any acid. How do you moderate your pH?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Рік тому

      You can add both, even under purity laws. What i suggest is following your normal Brewing practices see how the pH goes and then think about where you go from there. There's no one answer for all, it takes work and experience to find what you need to do

  • @JohnKovacs-eu5yv

    Hey Mate , what is the water profile you used for this beer ?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork

    • @HomeBrewNetwork

  • @jakeleishman9344
    @jakeleishman9344 Рік тому

    Not sure if I missed it in the video but are you worrying about the PH or does the step mash take care of it for you?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Рік тому

      I do check pH, first time I'd follow your normal procedure, then see how it goes, next time adjust for any changes and see how that goes, there's no accurate maths with this stuff.

      @jakeleishman9344 Рік тому

    Can you please let me know exactly what you changed (if anything) with the no-chill approach to this beer?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Рік тому

      Nothing.

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Рік тому

      But watch your temps, you don't want to Cube too low, close to 80c.. so if it's heading that way after 10mins or 15mins into the whirlpool just cube it.

    • @martyr011
      @martyr011 Рік тому

      And for a double batch on the 65L Brewzilla you'd use 360g hops total in the whirlpool? Seems like heaps!?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Рік тому

      @@martyr011 you want 40ibus. Its about 7g per litre. Work that out in your profile.
