its called the disturbing video game iceberg, not the scary video game iceberg. those words have different meaning.
Great point
Disturbing really depends on how easily you get disturbed by things. Someone could say doom is disturbing to them even though it really isn’t that horrific to most people today.
A lot of factual errors in this video, especially with the terminology.
Right and things that are immediately available upon googling
Gonna agree with you here, I feel like if you're gonna do an iceberg you should do some actual research, even if you haven't played the game.
with deltarune, which isnt like. disturbing but has more disturbing elements than undertale obviously "i havent played this game but it looks cute so theres def no disturbing stuff" like cmon dude googling "deltarune disturbing" pops up so many easy results

common trend in youtube now.
The Fatal Frame section is just straight up wrong. Like whoever wrote this combined 1 and 2 together.
Fatal Frame 1 is about Miku trying to find her BROTHER Mafuyu. Fatal Frame 2 is about Mio and Mayu, twin sisters that get trapped in the Lost Village.
I was about to comment this lol... glad someone else said it. These games are popular and have been out for more than a decade - a single google search would get this right. I'm disinclined to watch the rest of the video if this is the level of effort put in.
@@freezehorn that was my thoughts exactly. I like the other sourcebrew videos but I don't know what's going on with this one. Maybe AI like other people have suggested?
Not my dumbass thinking of Hatsune Miku. 😭
I’ll be honest, you probably could’ve straight up skipped the first tier and nobody would’ve blamed you, lol
^ was trying to think of a nice way to say this. Every single thing on this list i'm pretty sure most if not all of us already are aware of or didn't fit the theme
I mean "basic shit" is a part of the iceberg format.
Agreed. If you're going to keep it in then do it justice - talk about the beating heart inside the liberty statue in gta, the ghosts in the northern mountains of San Andreas, the creepy Mario face at least. Otherwise, just skip it. It feels like a blend of missed opportunity and misunderstood wrapped in formality.
@@Jhud69 Doesn't mean we wanna see the same stuff over and over again
I've noticed a trend of people skipping the first and sometimes second tiers
1:25:23 The original OneShot was disturbing because you literally had one shot to finish the game and deliver the sun to it's rightful place to save everyone. If you close the game, next time you boot it up, the sun is broken, all you hear is a disturbing soundtrack, later with a message popping up saying "You killed Niko."
You can curate these icebergs you know lol you don’t need to include the blatantly irrelevant games and probably mostly all of the first tier
"There's cannibalism, gore and overall super disturbing scenes. It's not that diaturbing though."
"Hotline Miami just sees you brutally killing criminals while you go down a hole of mental illness and wear animal masks. You also take care of a drug addicted sexual assault victim. The second game literally lets you skip the first stage due to content and has you shooting up stores. But nah. These aren't disturbing games."
How desensitized are you?

Max Payne isn't a rockstar game it's a remedy game the same developers of alan wake, rockstar does own the IP and they developed the third game
Yeah. Quite the blunder there.
Mafuyu Hinasaki wasn't Miku's sister either. It appears there were multiple errors in this part of list. I guess we can treat them like easter eggs.
@@MRBIGBACK69420no they're talking about the wrong info on the Fatal Frame part of this video

Cook cook is an evil bastard lol
Correction for the Dead by Daylight section: The Ghost Face killer is NOT a collaboration with the Scream franchise. They couldn't get the rights to any of those guys, so they just got the rights to the iconic mask (the mask and Scream are owned by two different entities) and created their own killer.
Tbh that works since in the franchise Ghostface is many people anyway.

I find it annoying when "disturbing games/movies/etc" icebergs or other videos include media that just happens to have some disturbing moments sprinkled in, without the thing as a whole being disturbing. Like, most works of fiction have some disturbing elements somewhere in them, but saying that most games/movies in the world are disturbing is just stupid.

The reason Undertale is on the list because if you kill monsters instead of befriending them the game gets progressively darker. To the point where the full genocide run feels like an Undertale creepypasta.

There is more misinformation in this video, like how he said the first Fatal Frame was about a woman looking for her sister, the first game was actually about a girl looking for her brother
Nah. Put some respect on silent hill 4
Honestly, I can't bear to watch past the first tier. You made a video titled "explained" yet you mostly fail to actually explain and discuss as to why some of these games are included on this iceberg, being mostly resorted to your opinion only, almost seeming like there was almost no research made aside from a very basic look on the games you weren't familiar with. If you don't wanna talk about certain games it is best to just exclude them completely from the video instead of just "don't know exactly what's disturbing about this" "probably isn't disturbing actually".
Some context for the Mortal Kombat developer being diagnosed with PTSD. They do make these animators study actual beheadings and murders to make the animations more "realistic."
Bullshit.
Gonna be honest, this is one of the most disappointing iceburg "explained" videos I've tried to watch, on account of the fact there is no writing and explanation for these games and their disturbing scenes/themes/content.
So many of the entries are just skimming the names, and the most basic bullet points about the game. It just sounds like you're reading out a compilation list of games that you got from reddit threads?
I mean this with no ill intent or hate, just critism from someone who loves watching UA-camrs do actual deep dives about content. But as others have pointed out, there was no actual research or writing done for this video - you can't keep defaulting to "so you should check it out" and "I never played this/ this doesn't look disturbing so--" in a video titled "iceburg explained". And even the few things that are said about some of these games are filled with mistakes, that would be very easy to catch if proper research was done.
Agreed, even other UA-camrs delve a little bit deeper before moving on to the next section.

This list feels off
Dont put "explained" in the title if you arent gonna EXPLAIN how or why any of the games might be considered disturbing. This whole video reeks of ai generated summary slop tbh
In fairness, I dont think many of the school shooter game devs had, 'satire' or 'artistic' intent when they were making them, that we can give in restrospective.
I disagree with the fnaf part. Jumpscares were never the scary part for the original (at least for me). It's the feeling of complete hopelessness, not being able to move takes away so much agency from the player. Only bad thing about the original Fnaf game is that, that feeling of dread wears off after you die a couple of times.
Also old Minecraft was actually pretty spooky. The ambient cave sounds, the spooky disks, endermen, the fog gave it a pretty uneasy vibe, wouldn't say the modern versions are scary at all though.
Hey everybody! This dude wasn't engrossed in the concept of jumpscares of the original five nights at freddies! Also he's scared by minecraft!
To bad that that's what fnaf is. Nothing but jumpscares fan games are better the actual game series its self.
@walkingtalkingstevenhawkin6831 his opinion was valid asf. what you said was just waste of bandwidth
@@walkingtalkingstevenhawkin6831 Minecraft is far scarier. The eerie feeling of a monster hanging around every corner with the capacity to kill you if you're not careful is tense. Losing in FNaF is constant trial and error until you win which loses most of its fear factor through saturation and frustration, although the atmosphere is what makes it scary at all to begin with.
*Jumpscares are the cheapest form of horror,* having a kid scream "BOO" in your ears before pelting him through the closest window isn't scary - it's startling.
@@scrittleyeah yeah, that shitty OOOHHH A SCARY ZOMBIE IS GOING TO KILL ME OOOHHH is fucking scary in old Minecraft, of course of course I fucking believe you zoomer
I'm guessing Minecraft is here cos of the earlier versions, which can be quite creepy, unsettling, or even paranoia-inducing.
Early Minecraft's worlds were massive but liminal. The animal types roaming around were few and sparse, and there were no villagers yet, so you'd feel isolated. At first, you'd think that you're the only sentient being around, till you find dungeons or some block formation that doesn't seem natural/random, making you wonder stuff like who _else_ is in your (single-player) game. That on top of Minecraft being new and less known, making it hard to know what was really in the game. This's prolly what made the "Herobrine" creepypasta work so well.
And don't forget the deliberately creepy cave noises, lol. I mean, why??
THIS! esp the cave noises! If you were a new player before all the new annoyingly upbeat music, it would be dead silent and then spooky azz cave noise. I remember hearing it for the first time and thinking i accidently downloaded a horror mod or something. 😅
Exactly! I used to be terrified of nights in Minecraft, especially since nights were DARK dark, like, "you need to turn up your monitor brightness" dark. And if you are totally new at the game without any spoilers on how to play it, it can be pretty tense. Which is why I'm a bit annoyed he skipped Minecraft entirely. Yes, it's a baby block game, but come on, it HAS some disturbing atmosphere to it at times.
@@Jhud69 I remember _never_ venturing out at night in my first time playing back in Alpha. I wasn't familiar with the night critters and avoided spoilers (which weren't that many yet). There were no Beds then, so you'd have to stay busy inside your shelter or literally wait the night out. And there was no sprinting, either, so the slow monsters could actually catch up to you.
@@darkdest6664 When the devs and community were discussing about cave noises, the latter was thinking about natural cave ambience, and fans made some mock-ups that were nice. C418, ofc, had different ideas, lol. I'm glad they did it, tho.
Speaking of, they also added cave noise-style sounds to the deep oceans via the Aquatic update. I've read that there are four, but I've yet to hear one in-game.
I've never even played the game but I'm going to have a beef with you for dissing The Walking Dead when you literally have Minecraft on the same tier list 😭
i'm pretty sure he didn't make this list with the way he keeps clarifying he hasn't played most of these games and doesn't find most of them scary or disturbing.
Tier 1 was a struggle ngl
really disappointed in this one. i put icebergs on for background noise late at night and yours have always been pretty decent quality and never bothered me before, but a lot of titles in this one were covered with a lack of information and especially respect for the games. at some point after the first tier you came off as disregarding and putting down any game that you hadn't personally played, and repeatedly saying "this game isn't even a horror game" while the iceberg is supposed to be about * disturbing * titles, not particularly horror games. lots of great games were completely discredited and that's quite a letdown :( i'm not even a superfan of any of the titles mentioned, i just think there's little point in doing an iceberg if you don't actually enjoy the subject matter.
I love you source brew but this has got to be one of the worst iceberg videos I’ve seen.
First of all it’s not even an iceberg more so a compilation. The first game is resident evil and the last game is Kanye quest…. Like wtf 😭?? I thought it was supposed to get more disturbing the deeper you go.
Second like 95% of these games aren’t even remotely scary or intended to be. Minecraft, undertale, night in the woods. Like dude cmon… throw in Lego Batman while your at it.
And last of all, these games aren’t really obscure either. Nearly all of these have been covered to death on this site. There were maybe 3 games that I had never heard of before.
I get that it’s just the first tier and what not, but why even cover it? You even admitted that most of these aren’t scary or unknown, and used that as a reason to rush through the entries. Which if the entries aren’t interesting and you aren’t going to do more than a 2 sentence explanation then why even do it at all? Lite summaries on well known games that aren’t even scary… for 2 hours. The whole time I was waiting for the obscure and interesting entries and then all the sudden the video was over and your like “yea sorry guys I know that was ass but I gotchu next time” like wtf dude you just wasted my time with this chat gpt ass video.
I thought it was going to be an explanation of specific mysteries from various games. I agree that this video is pointless.
Disturbing and scary aren't the same words dude.
Also, icebergs go from most well known to least known. Love how this has been a trend for, what, 4 years and people still don't understand the basic rules of it?
And yes, undertale is disturbing. Especially when you go down the genocide route. You see villages that on the Pacific route was filled with people, now being empty as everyone hides from you.
Minecraft is disturbing at times because of the cave sounds, the lore, and the warden.
But seriously, disturbing and scary are two completely different words. Words have meaning.
To add onto what I said with Undertale, there's legit the lab In the Pacific route. Which is filled with body horror, and evidence that the monsters are still sentient in some way.
But hey, there's no disturbing stuff in Undertale.
Minecraft is scary, have you ever been low on hearts in a dark cave all by yourself? Minecraft absolutely has a horror element that scares me more as an adult than it did when I was a kid.
@@camharkness 1) the iceberg is very bad. It's supposed to be a horror iceberg but there's almost no difference between tier 1 and tier 2,
2) Scaling on prevalence has been done before and much better than how it's been executed here. Most of these entries are indistinguishable blends of mascot horror everyone knows. Do we need to include every mascot horror title from 2014-2022? Couldn't he remove duplicated/irrelevant titles instead? I'm not saying things like Baldi aren't scary, it's just that other mascot horrors of a similar calibre have already been covered like exe and FNaF,
3) the iceberg's coverage is very unfaithful. The creator definitely has a bias for FNaF and other titles while sharing no care for RPG horror like Ao Oni. It listens like he's reading off a script, there's almost no space to breathe between each entry.
We know how icebergs work, but this one has so much filler it's unbearable. We've heard ALL of these entries before.
Awesome video, but I think you got the wrong game for Call of cthulu, it probably refers to Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Same thought here.
This blows.
Bro is just listing games out and telling you if it was spooky or not. WTF is the point bro. Go in depth or don’t make the video at all.
@@iwantmygarlicbread Ain't no way you want an in-depth analysis of fucking Minecraft in here
Like these are the early entries (I do agree that he prolly should've just jumped to deeper tiers tho)
That Duck Season game was actually done pretty well honestly. You think it would've been a complete flop but it had it's scary ass moments
Holy shit this video was poorly written.
There should definitely be an iceberg for controversies with developers in games, such as valves “ nightmare folder “ or how they used the real corpse of a guy to make a model.
...did you just call Undertale 3D? Did you mispeak or....
Edit: Look I know it's not Silent Hill or anything, but Undertale has more than a few spooky moments.
Yea there's the dark tone and meta deconstruction of No Mercy, but there's also things like The True Lab or the final battle in Neutral, things that compared to the rest of the game can catch you off guard when compared to the rest of the game.
Are you trying to advocate for a spookier rating? If I recall correctly, nothing in undertale is PRESENTED as spooky or scary, spoopy is as far as the game goes. Genocide is disturbing sure but in a thoughtful way not horror. Though I've known people cry at the thought of a ghost so to each their own
@@1dfr33 No I feel like it's placement in tier one is fine, there are much scarier games than it. I just was unsatisfied with how it was talked about here.
Gonna put my notes there while going through the video:
Probably the scariest moment in Undertale is the Flowey fight, you know the one. I agree the rest of the game isn’t very spooky but that fight still creeps me out otherwise.
I kinda wish you actually talked about Minecraft, yes everybody knows this game and yes overall it’s not super creepy but it DOES have pretty scary atmosphere at times. And I think the Mario 64 entry was supposed to be about that one Eel thing in the underwater level, I don’t play Mario either but I know a lot of people were terrified by the eel as a kid.
Also I think the „MOTHER” the iceberg is relating to is the Earthbound precursor you thought about first, since the other game is way too niche to be this early in the iceberg.
Fun fact: Dying Light is a Polish game! Probably the most popular one next to Witcher series.
You're right with the eel in mario 64 but there's also some other bits that are relevant, but sort of spoilery (for a 25+ year old game lol)
The whole level with the eel apparently can trigger fear for people with thalassophobia (can't comment on that),
Big Boo's Haunt is the other creepy level. The whole level involves boos/ghosts which would have been creepy for kids that didn't know that they are a staple enemy in the mario series.
There's a haunted piano in that level that jumpscares you, it's an empty room with a piano that tries to eat mario by chomping at him.
Hazy Maze Cave is a bit creepy. The portal that mario has to jump into to access this level is basically a void, it looks sort of like tar. The level itself is pretty dark and as the name says it's a cave which is kind of claustrophobic
Bob-omb battlefield has a chain chomp in the first section of the game which suddenly bites out at you as you approach it.
The first boss fight with Bowser is a trap. You walk down a hallway towards a painting that looks like Peach and then it suddenly changes to an image of bowser, then a trap door opens underneath mario. The second boss fight has an infinite staircase that leads up to it, with some creepy looping music. The staircase only allows you up it if you have enough stars.
there's also just quite a lot of creepypastas surrounding SM64 because apparently a lot of content was cut from the game
papers please is absolutely horror for anyone who actually went through these kinds of procedures, not every horror game needs to have a monster

Man, soon as i saw the suffering in the thumbnail, i got this desire to play it again. I really hope they remake or at least remaster that. It was one of my favourite games as a kid.
It’s made me really happy to see The Suffering series start to get a small resurgence of attention these past couple of years. I really wish Warner bros would stop scratching their asses and actually do something with the ip.
I think today a remaster or remake would do very well. Or even better another sequel. In todays gaming landscape I think it would stand out more than it did in the ps2 era and could easilly be as popular as resident evil or silent hill
The Suffering is the only reason I got here lol
look, I know making content is hard, but you can't go into a video like this and just go like "I don't know much about it though" for every other entry. Sure, I get it that not everyone has played all these games, but do your research at least? It sounds lazy when you just write something off as "not as disturbing" if you think the game itself is what's disturbing about it, and even lazier when you can't get simple information about the games right such as who made the game in the first place or what the story is about.
this iceberg has back 4 blood after manhunt and silent hill what am i even watching
it has fucking punisher for ps2 its actual nonsense😭
What made Five Nights at Freddy's and Minecraft so scary was the fear of the unknown. We didn't have so much lore or so much knowledge of the mechanics. Both games also had a very lonely atmosphere, something they lack now, and that allowed for rumors like Herobrine to thrive. We weren't exactly afraid of what was there, but we were horrified of what could be.

To add more to the list, Twisted Metal: Black should be here. If you're unfamiliar with the game or series, Twisted Metal is a car combat game published by Sony were you're in an arena or map with other cars, you have infinite machine gun attached to your car and you get missiles and other things from the ground (like Mario Kart) to shoot the living f-k out of other cars. You win if you're the last man standing. TM1 and 2 had that edgy but lighthearted tone. They have that mean-spirited, 90's Beavis and Butt-Head humor sprinkled around. TM BLACK was made by the same devs who created the first two TM games. Singletrec created TM 1, 2 and after they were bought by another company the key people who worked on these games formed a new studio called Incognito to work again with Sony (TM3&4 were created by different devs).
Plot of these games are about a guy who has supernatural powers named Calypso. He created the Twisted Metal contest and whoever wins will get their wish granted. However, he's a massive troll. He will take you wish and twist it. If you want a lot of money, he'll drown you to death with money. If you want be famous and want the world to know your face, he'll stretch your face around the world so that the whole world LITERALLY know your face.. you get the idea. Each character gets his own ending.
Anyway, now despite the fact it was made by the same devs, they decided to go to a whole new direction. The game heavily focus on story and disturbing, horror-like atmosphere. TM Black no longer have that humor but instead it's full on edgy reboot, in fact it's the first M rated TM game (previous ones were T rated). The characters received heavy redesigns, Sweet Tooth went from a goofy clown (like 60's Adam West Joker) to the more well-known creepy serial killer version and Mr. Grimm went from the literal Grim Reaper who is a soul junkie to a cannibalistic veteran who fought in Vietnam. Every single character have tragic or f-ed up backstory as they're all come from an asylum. It's far less colorful then the PS1 games. It's a game I highly recommend anyone to play, but it's hard asf.
Twisted Metal 2012 was also like Black but Black was much darker.
Genuine question but did you use AI to write this list? This is one of the worst ice burg videos I've ever watched. It's littered with mistakes that could've been corrected with a quick google search, and you just skim through a lot of these without going into detail. You should actually make an effort to play some of these instead of saying "oh yeah i didn't play this one probaby scary though" *goes to the next game*
I say this as someone who really likes your content and im disappointed with the recent uploads. I'm sensing these being pumped out for quick clicks
Who knew this iceberg could be more disturbing than my uncle's dance moves at family gatherings...
The main route of Deltarune isn't too bad other than the endings of each chapter where the mc rips out their own soul so they can stop being controlled by the player. But the alternate route of the second chapter has a character named Noelle, who is very innocent and optimistic, being literally forced by the player through the mc, Kris, to freeze every enemy against her will, even being able to see their frozen bodies afterwards. In normal gameplay, you don't actually hurt anyone, just charming them out of hurting you like Undertale. This causes Noelle to become depressed and have PTSD, especially after she freezes Berdly, their friend. It's not too bad but definitely a bit more disturbing than Undertale just because it emphasizes the fact that YOU, the player, are FORCING people who wouldn't normally hurt anyone into killing people.
That’s interesting… love the concept and message I got from this description, though art is subjective and everyone will have their own different interpretations and take aways - regardless of its form.
@@HavianEla I know! I was just clarifying since sourcebrew didn't know what was disturbing about it and in case others didn't know either. Like I said, I wouldn't call it THAT disturbing, much like a good amount of stuff on this list so far, but I would call it just disturbing enough to brush the surface of this iceberg.
@@pipthefae THISSS!!! That's exactly what I would expect to be said in a video which tries to explain a list of disturbing games, so I was severely disappointed to how it was presented. Not only the weird route, but also the themes with Kris and spamton lacking freedom and the despair of being nothing more than a puppet to a higher being
always a good time when sourcebrew drops a new iceberg
comments made seconds before disaster
fear and hunger is also notoriously stupidly difficult
games like Minecraft and Mario 64 are only considered "disturbing" because of rumors that circulated around them, stories people would tell about secrets and strange encounters that aren't actually real
A lot of the games are glossed over instead of actually explaining what's disturbing about them.
This is not like your usual stuff :/ I doesn't seems like you're actually interested in what you're talking about.
The most disturbing game to ever exist is…….Postal 3.
Cry Of Fear is Fucking Disturbing Game
“ Undertale is a pretty well known 3D indie game “
please stop talking about empty source engine maps that shit isn't even scary
Doing a disturbing games iceberg before That Creepy Reading would finish it. Let's go!!!
I like your videos don’t get me wrong, and I say this with no hate, only with criticism, but if this is how disappointing part 1 is, then I’m not excited for part 2. Spent 1 hour 51 mins watching a video that really didn’t go over anything “disturbing”. And overall felt rushed and written by someone who didn’t even try to research anything about the games mentioned.
Slender was absolutely the grandfather of modern indie horror games
it's been a while since we last seen yah. glad you posted a new Iceberg
I like your videos usually but this was kinda...well boring. Barely explaining things, glancing over actual disturbing parts especially in the first tier, factual error (the Undertale part made me laugh) and it genuinely feels like you're just reading some wiki article at times (or is it Chatgpt?).
It’s always a wonderful day when sourcebrew gives us a new iceberg video to watch.
I'm sorry, but when he literally skipped the Minecraft entry, I felt offended. From what I think, the reason why Minecraft is in here is because of how eerily lonely it is, this feeling being more prominent in single player. It makes you question why Steve, Alex, or any character you play as is so different from the other mobs. It also makes you question what happened to the other beings similar to the player and wonder if other beings besides them still exist in the world.
ik beggers can't be choosers and this is free, but a link in the desc to an unlisted version without the constant "eeeeeeeeee-oooooooooooo-eeeeeeeeeeeee-oooooooooooo" in the background would be highly appreciated
The music was driving me INSANE
@@illumiyanii i couldn't watch it cuz i couldn't tune it out lol
The Clock Tower part... That's the wrong game.
You ended up showing a different game with the same name.
Knew LISA was gonna get mentioned
It's a good game, I recommend playing it
And then replay it with the desolate expanse mod
The ranking on this iceberg seems to be a bit all over the place lol,
Why are Horror Clown, Granny, and Mother on the first tier when they are relatively obscure indie games, yet tier 2 has a ton of really well known games that sold millions of copies like Postal, Back 4 Blood, SOMA, hellblade, prey, stalker, backroom games, heavy rain?
1:08:19 What ISN'T banned in Australia?
Mascot horror + streamer/UA-camr bait = success
Fun fact: Slender The Arrival was written by Joseph Delage who was a co writer for Marble Hornets and who also played Alex Kralie
oh boy, I can't wait to get to the ryona and guro fetish games
Fatal Frame is also known as Zero in europe, although it has a slight difference being called Project Zero instead of straight up just Zero
Undertale has one of the most upsetting places, the lab, and one of the fights there are just depressing, like not even joking here. They feel broken and hopeless. Deltarune does have quite off putting moments too, specially related to stuff outside the main game route.
I needed this for my mental health. Bless you Mr.Sourcebrew
I better see Twisted Metal: Black on here or I'm gonna riot.
played a demo of the suffering because it came with shaolin monks and I shat bricks it was the first game I played as a child with such an oppresive and horrifying vibe
That’s funny I remember playing the shaolin monks demo on the suffering
even in the pacifist route, isn't there a whole thing about how alphys accidentally fused a bunch of living beings together into amalgams? and the whole thing about how asgore has killed. moreso spooky bits than the majority of the (pacifist route) game, but the alphys one seems weird to not mention.
The best Iceberg channel. Great voice, great detail and long videos! ❤
Left 4 Dead has never been scary to me until like 2 weeks ago when I was doing Last Man On Earth and could hear a charger screeching in the background. Not even cos they're hard to avoid, but something about being alone suddenly made those noises kind of terrifying
postal mentioned
POSTAL MENTION LET'S GOOOOOOO
Ooh, I can definitely tell that this is going to be a long iceberg series.
