Something to lighten to mood when talking about Berserk, When Kentaro Miura died the thread on /a/ mourning his death was made & a user decided to post ragebait so a Janny did the only funny thing I have seen a Janny do and banned the user for an entire boat arc (8 years) which sent me into a bout of hysterics for a while.
On Miura switching to digital to make the manga panels... I don't know where I heard this but I remember people saying saying Miura was making good progress on Berserk when he initially switched until someone showed him how to zoom in on the pages to add extra detail. This is probably just a community in-joke about how slow releases where & how detailed they were as well.
It's sort of an artist in joke, really. I also make comics and I work traditionally like Miura (though I use different materials than a mangaka). The "addiction to the zoom tool" is a real thing that can happen to traditional artists switching to digital (and just newer artists in general). This definitely introduces a LOT of issues basically and slows your process down a lot. Doing lines pixel by pixel is not good, but also being so zoomed in you lose track of how the picture looks as a whole so things get wonky much easier. It can be an adjustment for traditional artists because we're used to not being able to zoom at all, so when we get a tool that allows us to do it we can go wild abusing it haha.
My all time favourite berserk meme was a comment I read not long after Miura’s death. > Spent years on the boat 😒 > They finally get to the island 😊 > Author dies 😢 > They get back on the fucking boat 💀

I have a stupid theory: Casca's and Guts destiny was to die in the eclipse, but both of then survive. That means the Moon Child is a product of FREE WILL, a direct enemy of destiny and the God Hand
Yeah he’s Christ, he’s the messiah compared to Griffith’s antichrist. The Biblical theory for Berserk was the only way, Guts cannot be the one to bring peace on Earth, like David who could not build the temple, that will be for his son Solomon, the Christ archtype, The Moonlight Boy. Guts is here instead as Michael, as John the Baptist, as Joseph, as David, as the Jacob the “Struggler.” Another funny parallel is that like King Saul, the antichrist archetype, who hunted down the true King David who had the true lineage of the messiah, Guts is the same (hunted and branded) and if we follow this theory, is the father of the true king and messiah. Only thing is this may mean the moonlight boy may have to sacrifice himself or a portion of himself, as Christ died, he too may.

Guts won't use the behelit to upgrade the Dragonslayer, he won't need to. Griffith is slowly losing control over the body as the moonlight boy grows more powerful. The body has also been infected with byrates from the Dragonslayer and will continuously build up madness like Ganishka. Griffith is not a physical being, he is exclusively an astral body and he possesses the body like Schierke does Guts dead eye. People make the mistake that they think Guts and Skull knight are parallel when in reality Griffith and Gaiseric are the parallel. This is pointed out to us when Charlotte tells the history of Midland. King from no where, unbeatable in battle, becomes king, goes mad, his old rival/ friend gets revenge and resets the world. Guts will be given that chance with his behelit and it will transform to become special like the egg of the king, but it's opposite. Instead of unbelievable suffering creating despair and transforming into the Godhand it will be something akin to hope (though much less cheesy) and Daemons like Flora transformed into. It's also worth mentioning that Void is an element in Japanese mythos, I'll call it Kū. The Godhand are aspects of the 5 elements, Slan fire, Conrad earth, ubik water, Void kū and Femto Air. We've seen the 4 cardinal kings but not one for the aspect of kū, that's what the moonlight boy is growing into. If there is a battle at the end he will be the deciding factor more than any other.
For the Behelit itself, given how possessive he is over it, I think it's Puck's, and so he'll try to use it if anyone. That will be a disaster that will either narrowly be averted, or he will be the foundation for the next Godhand, deposing the current ones and allowing Guts and Skull Knight their vengeance.

It would be a disservice to Miura’s life, work, and legacy to refuse to see what he worked on his entire life til the end
1:03:21 This is such a non-issue. This doesn’t just apply to Berserk, but rather any form of animation / drawing. Not only does it take time to create unique designs for non-important characters, but it also removes the visual attraction of the main characters. I believe the name "Femto" originates from "femte," which is the Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish word for "fifth." It could also derive from "femmta/femmti," which is Icelandic for the same.

I think Femto’s media reference isn’t in his name but in his appearance. Check out Phantom of the Paradise, it’s a glam rock musical film from the mid 70s
I have one thing to point out. Tone wise it hasn't changed much from the day Guts realized Casca's all he got left to save, sure there's a tiny bit less brutality as it was in the chapters prior. They did remind us during Elfhelm with the dreamscape of Casca being that of the Eclipse and what broke her. Since then with the continuation I think more so that with the author gone and enough notes to complete the story, right now they are regaining their footing. Which is timed pretty well considering what happened. Quite an interesting dive into Berserk, a lot that I've known about but a few that were new but also freshly informative. Before even reading Berserk myself, I always had an impression that it was about a warrior struggling with humanity in some aspect with a lot of dark themes that weren't to be treaded lightly. ALSO ALSO, there is a video I am surprised you weren't aware of with this one loser who made the actual argument that "Casca liked it" as well as several people who argue unironically that Griffith not only: "did nothing wrong" but was also a victim. A victim who was, if memory serves, interacting with a higher being or something. Like this avid defender of Griffith was almost fetishistic (good luck pronouncing that word on the first try). Berserk's dark in nature but has a lot of interesting things to discuss even if right now many are torn on their sides about its direction. It is hands down the greatest story period. Almost finished watching the video. Though it does remind me just how maddening the response from the hardcore fans that they distrusted with such vitriol be the SAME MAN who directed and helped Kentaro directly with the Eclipse. The most shocking event in Berserk and what ultimately got so many invested in its story. Some stupidly think that it peaked at the Eclipse or think it should've ended then and there. But the last thing to say is that... I am surprised there are a lot more fan animations out there than what had been popularly spread out. Pretty decent video even if some pronunciations of terms are a bit different than what I'm used to.
Ha peaked at the eclipse some people are just you know 😂 what a lie and should’ve ended like why would you end a story like that some people just don’t need to write stories and it shows
@@yungcancer3389 I am a little confused by your words, but I get the gist of it. Some people just aren't built to tell stories nor are capable of writing them. I'm just thankful someone like Shankar (of Netflix Castlevania) has not gotten their grubby hands on it.
Praying this blows you up you deserve it so much dude the amount of effort into researching and recording iceberg videos are insane and I hope to see more berserk stuff from you too in the future. Good luck man!!
I'd heard about Berserk for the last 7 or 8 years but never checked it out. I just watched Berserk 1997 and it was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. amazing characters, narrative, and each still is a work of art in itself. I could barely watch for all the times I had to cap screens and organize them into my Art Inspo folder.
The Dragonslayer is already upgraded. Before, it was a blade that existed in our world but had a foot in the next layer (interstice) from fighting other world forces, but since the scene where Skull Knight tried to strike Griffith at the world tree, the world of Berserk is now more in the interstice layer than before, meaning the Dragonslayer would have more power since the “window has shifted.” Just my theory.
Great iceberg! Well presented information, good voice, no annoying bits/sounds. Despite what people say, editing thus kind of video is no easy task! Great job!
17:09 It’s pretty obvious that most Berserk characters are White, since the series clearly takes place in a Late Medieval/ Early Modern European type setting. The series itself takes place in Europe as we’ve seen in the manga and Midland is called Midland because it’s located in the middle of the continent, so basically Poland/ East Germany area.
I personally think Miura’s digital art is fantastic, the elf island pages are some of the densest with detail and most beautiful pages in the manga. the art probably peaks for me at the climax of FOTME
If there was ever a live action Berserk, I’d imagine Casca would be more tanned/brown than being black. Like it’s based in Europe so maybe she’s Turkish or southern Euro like Greek, Italian or Spanish where they can be quite brown.
I heard somewhere that berserk 97 actually had a bigger budget and the studio cut budget from other projects to work on berserk , I think it's more dialogue heavy with more still frames is because it's literally impossible for them to animate a 100 horses in the background or the insane detail of kentaro miura also the focus on dialogue scenes helps in character development soo much

I can see the argument for both black swordsman -> golden age and golden age -> black swordsman Although I think looking at berserk from the perspective of what it would be like when the eclipse hadn’t happened yet, black swordsman coming first is a lot better because it makes you spend a lot of the golden age speculating on how things are going to fall apart

Do you think we’ll get any new berserk chapters soon? Will it really be another TEN years before the manga reaches a conclusion? Will I ever get a new berserk anime with “Forces” in it? 😱
Lmao i remember the memes at the time and the rejoicing when they “finally got off that fucking boat” or “they escaped the boat! the most powerful villain in berserk,” it was tough times but the community was so fun
Yeah, me too. I've heard great things about Berserk from people I trust. I didn't give it a read until after Miura's death. I think my first contact was when youtube showed me the 1997 anime, but every once in a while it goes off script.
This series holds a special place in my heart. I heard of Gut’s theme in memes but my friend would introduce me into it through the movies, I remember laughing out loud how goofy the CGI looked, when we got to the eclipse part I kept telling to “turn it off!”. But it wouldn’t be a year later that I actually read Berserk, sometimes I forget I have the first Volume of the thick books in my closet I got as a gift from my brother in law. I fell in love with this series and seeing chibi Puck makes me so happy :) 2:19am Sept 27 24 Friday
I have not read Berserk yet. Only watched the golden arc Trilogy and the remastered anime, also seen some of the 1997 episodes. I really enjoyed this video and your style of editing, you also have a way of speech/english that is understandable without subtitles, unlike many other people from similar videos i have heard of. I plan to starting Berserk soon, i am glad i had a further motivation to do so. Still i wanna congratulate you on your job well done and i hope you get way more views. P.S. Just to add to the shitpost, i believe the ending of Berserk could be one ironic twist of fate where Casca ascends into becoming an angel and fucks Guts in front of some defeated and powerless Griffith.
The demon tail thing is just his thing for carrying sword, you can see it on some other panels, before having a dragonslayer he used that kind of thing for carrying swords.
I think that the guts is Zodd's descendent theory kind of works if you take it as Guts is from when Zodd was a human before becoming an apostle and Guts comes from some point down the family tree not directly as a son.
1997 didn't have a small budget, it had almost double the funding of a prime time show. By todays standard, a very small budget, but certainly not for the time
I tried to watch berserk years ago and thought that the 2016 version was the only version. I recently found out about the 1997 and watched all of it and then continued to read the manga in probably record time. Im disappointed in myself for not giving it the proper chance before as it is one of my favorites of all time now. Im also deeply sadened that a genius like kento couldn't finish his master piece. I hope he rests in peace, and if anyone continues the story that they give kentos genius the ending it deserves.
29:10 I don't really think this theory got dunked on too hard. Skull knight isn't literally guts from the future, but it was revealed that skull knight also experienced an eclipse, and guts sees his memory it. Guts literally says "is he the same as me?" after seeing it.
Great work well put together video.I can tell Berserk's creator was a fan of a lot of classic horror Griffith looks too much like Phantom of Paradise Winslow's Phantom outfit, and his liking of the cenobites from Hellraiser shows and other horror movies from back in the day I can go on. I'm an artist and the artwork of Beserk has always drawn me to it it's such a well-written comic I always liked Casca you just don't see too many darker skinned women in manga and anime and I liked how she was a tuff tomboy before she was traumatized.
Studio Eclypse is a Patreon scam. They don't have a team and don't credit their artists. They pay individual animators to make scenes for trailers and clips (explaining their wild artstyle shifts) and make fake WIP shots. Their Patreon has consisted solely of fanart since the trailer dropped aside from some WIPs for shots already in the trailer.
I'm surprised Evil Dead 2 didn't get mentioned anywhere on here. With Ash getting his hair turned white and losing his hand right before Berserk was made. People think it inspired Guts except the author said he never saw the movie. Or that the reason why the first few volumes were not drawn as well as later is because Mira was contractility working on another manga at the time and couldn't keep up the quality on both. So gila his own manga suffer.

I think Femto’s media reference isn’t in his name but in his appearance. Check out Phantom of the Paradise, it’s a glam rock musical film from the mid 70s
That movie is a fever dream
Thank you it means alot bro! Glad you enjoyed!
I'd heard about Berserk for the last 7 or 8 years but never checked it out. I just watched Berserk 1997 and it was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. amazing characters, narrative, and each still is a work of art in itself. I could barely watch for all the times I had to cap screens and organize them into my Art Inspo folder.
the elden ring sword memorial is a reference but the text isnt, there are multiple ones that mark where battles were fought
I think you're right. I meant more so a immediate upgrade that will allow him to maybe gut Griffith
He was able to cut a piece of hair from Griffith head so yea
I started reading and collecting the deluxe editions in March and finished it last month best fictional series I’ve ever read
For sure
GREAT VIDEO !!!
This was incredible man, thank you so much for making this. I already know im gonna end up watching this like 20x's over.
Apostle = Silent T
Your basically accentuating the L in Salmon...
Lol
dude can't pronounce anything right. wait till he says behelit
*Oh I do that-*
Should I name my Kid Guts?
Yeah
Yes
Hell no
Well if you have the guts to do that go ahead
Yes
Great iceberg! Well presented information, good voice, no annoying bits/sounds.
Despite what people say, editing thus kind of video is no easy task!
Great job!
I appreciate it a ton man! This is my longest video and yea the editing process took a while lol
@@MonoManiaYT learn to pronounce words you sound like a fucking moron
17:09 It’s pretty obvious that most Berserk characters are White, since the series clearly takes place in a Late Medieval/ Early Modern European type setting. The series itself takes place in Europe as we’ve seen in the manga and Midland is called Midland because it’s located in the middle of the continent, so basically Poland/ East Germany area.
I personally think Miura’s digital art is fantastic, the elf island pages are some of the densest with detail and most beautiful pages in the manga. the art probably peaks for me at the climax of FOTME
FOTME for sure has some insane art. and I agree I think its just a acquired taste for the digital art.
Nice video!
Way off topic off of Berserk as a whole, but I love that you use Etika's outro and are keeping it alive
Bro i thought this was going to be an extremely popular video but im surprised how little vews this has. Keep it up
I appreciate it man! I got you!
When you say that avenging his mother is generic, keep in mind that all the examples you gave of the same trope came out after berserk.
Great vid
Thank you bro!
Excellent video. Thanks again for covering
Thank you im glad you enjoyed!
I love the elden ring sfx throughout the entire game, sucha nice touch.
I see the Wendigoon and Greymads inspiration. Good work.
If there was ever a live action Berserk, I’d imagine Casca would be more tanned/brown than being black. Like it’s based in Europe so maybe she’s Turkish or southern Euro like Greek, Italian or Spanish where they can be quite brown.
Again, nice video Bro
So the series will be done by the time I'm 60 maybe. Great pacing!
We will read the final chapter in the nursing home together
Now that what I call perfect video 👍
Its crazy that you mention that cause i was in middle school in 2007 and graduated hs in 2016 lmaoo boat arc was goated tho
I heard somewhere that berserk 97 actually had a bigger budget and the studio cut budget from other projects to work on berserk , I think it's more dialogue heavy with more still frames is because it's literally impossible for them to animate a 100 horses in the background or the insane detail of kentaro miura also the focus on dialogue scenes helps in character development soo much
Great video, thank you for doing it!
No problem! Glad you enjoyed
Thank you for this.
You promised me sauce, i watched to the end and you abandoned me.
Im sorry my brother
Literally just look up the title lmao and put berserk after it...
Bros down bad

In case you didn't know Honoré de Balzac was a famous writer.
Pretty sure I saw this video months ago maybe re uploaded in a new account but dam i thought i was tripping still good vid
15:38 puck is feeling true happiness right there man 😭
sad to see no comments on the berserk cardgame, but still great work!
Yea thats one of the only ones I missed there are some cool cards to come out of it tho
I can see the argument for both
black swordsman -> golden age and golden age -> black swordsman
Although I think looking at berserk from the perspective of what it would be like when the eclipse hadn’t happened yet, black swordsman coming first is a lot better because it makes you spend a lot of the golden age speculating on how things are going to fall apart
I like the theory that void is the 5th element in a Japanese spiritual system that a different channel discussed, and that the original god hand had some kind of elemental connection before the current god hand, his ritual sets in place the 5 finger godhand and sets in motion the idea of evils plan
IF UR NAME IS GUTS CONSIDER YOURSELF AN OPP💔💔
Who gave Griffith UA-cam access
GRIFFITHHHHH!!!
@@MonoManiaYT 𝑃𝑙𝑢ℎ
Who would be a good opp to consider? 🤔
no my name is Gotz
The trilogy was great abridged version. Not scared to say it.
I agree its my favorite adaptation lowkey
Great video! I have to get into Berserk someday.
For sure go read it!
Ya the dragon slayer size inconsistency is aggravating, and also sometimes the the blade narrows down toward the tip and sometimes it doesn’t
Same I’m obsessed with berserk
I think the name "Femto" is a play on the word "Phantom". Miura based Griffith/Femto's helmet design on the lead in "Phantom of the Paradise."
Dope ass video 🔥🔥‼️🗣️
This series holds a special place in my heart. I heard of Gut’s theme in memes but my friend would introduce me into it through the movies, I remember laughing out loud how goofy the CGI looked, when we got to the eclipse part I kept telling to “turn it off!”. But it wouldn’t be a year later that I actually read Berserk, sometimes I forget I have the first Volume of the thick books in my closet I got as a gift from my brother in law. I fell in love with this series and seeing chibi Puck makes me so happy :)

I appreciate it a ton man thanks! Yes for sure start reading it
The demon tail thing is just his thing for carrying sword, you can see it on some other panels, before having a dragonslayer he used that kind of thing for carrying swords.
Ancient nun is Fia from Elden Ring
I made that connection after uploading lol
I think that the guts is Zodd's descendent theory kind of works if you take it as Guts is from when Zodd was a human before becoming an apostle and Guts comes from some point down the family tree not directly as a son.
1997 didn't have a small budget, it had almost double the funding of a prime time show. By todays standard, a very small budget, but certainly not for the time
forgot to talk about chesnut puck, and overtaking his whole character up until miuras death basically
RIP to both Studio Eclipse and Studio Taka
I didnt hear about studio Taka until after uploading this. Taka was for sure one of the best ones its a shame.
@@MonoManiaYT I still think it was a scam.
Studio Eclipse is a scam though
Nah screw studio eclypse, they were almost certainly scammers. Studio Taka’s closure is directly linked to their grifting.
@@kugelblitzkrieg is there more on the story?
I tried to watch berserk years ago and thought that the 2016 version was the only version. I recently found out about the 1997 and watched all of it and then continued to read the manga in probably record time. Im disappointed in myself for not giving it the proper chance before as it is one of my favorites of all time now. Im also deeply sadened that a genius like kento couldn't finish his master piece. I hope he rests in peace, and if anyone continues the story that they give kentos genius the ending it deserves.
The band of the hawk tuah.... I can't this any more.
your brain is fried my nigga
Griffith ain’t a hawk, he a hawk tuah, and casca gave guts that ha- yeah no im done
Yes! I forgot to mention Hellraiser Thank you!
@@MonoManiaYT No prob have a nice day great work.
Your pronunciations of “apostle” and “behelit” are crazy lol
best iceberg ever
I appreciate it!
So gila his own manga suffer.
well done sir
Thank you sir!
51:07 i see what you did there lil bro
