I ran a twin diesel engined wooden boat for 15 years, the engine covers was open and the fans were running while we sorted the lines out. Cooking gas was shut off at the bottle and the system was bled after use, the locker was drained overboard. Fire extinguishers were every where to hand, old ones were in reserve. Don't throw em they work after date and when the new ones are empty. Some times it's the pressure of getting the boat into the water that makes crew forget procedures. DONT LET ANYONE PRESSURISE YOU, DO YOUR CHECKS. The main thing is nobody was hurt.
Just shows how forgetting 1 thing can result in several thousand dollars of repairs 😱! Don't know why people just don't create a small Pre-launch checklist, laminate it, and hang it on the helm. Would do away with a lot of problems. But nope.
Halo Alfred, I saw some videos on YT with boats and yachts on fire until they sank. In four cases the fire was caused by the explosion of lithium batteries. In others, it was due to lack of maintenance and corrosion of electrical wiring. In one of the larger boat fires I saw cases where within 10 minutes the boat was completely on fire. The problem is that so far they have not been able to invent a non-flammable material in the construction of boats and yachts. Fiberglass is highly flammable, and so are many internal components of boats. Airplanes already use a lot of non-flammable material. Can you imagine a fire on the high seas of a yacht loaded with people? My congratulations for the beautiful and valuable videos you have made, Greetings from Rio de Janeiro.
Nice job by the marina crew, for quick thinking and grabbing multiple hoses to put out the fire! So often, people panic and freeze. Those marina guys were calm and professional - and look how fast the hauled out the boat with the fork lift - well done! And great job getting the video!
The Miami/Dade Fire department is miles away and also this boat wasn't near any actual place a Fire Truck could reach. They got excellent help from the workers at Loggerhead.
The thought of that was always on my mind. Running blowers wasn't good enough for me, I would also manually lift the hatch and stick my head in for a sniff test! As long as it passed, I would still power the hatch up a few inches for ventilation before starting 'em up. Also, had 2 boats with enclosed engine compartments, both had onboard fire suppression systems installed.
Alfred, that’s why you always run the blowers, and open the hatches when fueling, or starting any gasoline powered engine up, no matter how much in a hurry you are. The boat owner was so lucky that the crew at the boat repair and storage facility put out the fire in time w/o a total loss. Years ago, when working as a US Park Ranger at Lake Mead, I investigated 3 boat flash fires in one shift and also had to treat burn patients and fill out EMS reports too. That didn’t include the 3 additional Motor Vehicle Accidents resulting in rollovers with EMS that I also investigated. That day was unusually busy because I was inundated with Accident reports and EMS reports too. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. Yet, I was so glad when my shift was over!
Dude got lucky... Usually when you have fumes in the bilge its an explosion... Last one I witnessed blew the wheelhouse apart, and burned the boat to the waterline... Sad day for the boat owner, but he is okay. He got really lucky all things considered!
Always turn on your Blower! The guys did a great job in controlling the fire, but one of the worse thing you can do is use water on gas or oil fire. it can spread or cause a flash back.
I'd bet that he had a fuel line leak that caused the fire. If you have an inboard or sterndrive engine, you need to periodically check things in the engine compartment, like the fuel lines. Running the blower is important though. Thank God they got that fire out so quickly. I've seen the videos shot in placed like Ft. Lauderdale where a boat that was fully engulfed in flames floated down a canal, being blown into several other boats and in no time like three or four other boats caught fire and they in turn each caused several other boats to burn for a total of ten boats wound up being destroyed by fire. Boats are extremely flamable objects along with being explosive too.
Its unbelievable how often this happens. People forget to turn on the fan in the ingine compartment....or simply open the hatch to clear the fumes. This is a Must Do for all inboard/onboard boats.
Many years ago the Coast Guard just finished the topside safety inspection on the charter boat I worked on. As they were exiting the gangway, a private boat in the marina exploded. The fuel tank was being pumped out due to it sinking in a storm. The owner used a nylon rope to dip the tank. Static - kaboom. He was launched into the ICW. BADLY BURNED. please educate yourself. Fire on a boat is the worst. Have fun and be safe.
I can’t believe they put that boat back inside after such a short amount of time. Commercial insurance agents are fainting all around the country right now.
John K I don't know the layout of the marina. But I was thinking that maybe they were taking it inside to get to the front of the building, where the fire dept would have easier access to the boat.
the other thing is undersized wiring. don't be cheap on it.. always go down a size or two.. All my wiring , are two sizes down. my lights, nav lights are all 10 gauge. instrument wires, from 12-14 gauge, battery cable and winch are all 1-0 gauge. My boat was built by Luhrs, 1972 built like a tank. by the way, i carry 4 ext, 2 powder, 2 co2, and Auto in the engine room, with a 30lb co2.
Nice boat too! I love boats with cabins. Did not see flames, but where there is smoke, there is fire. CG copter got there very quick. Unbelievable. Unless, they just happen to be passing by coincidentally. Probably motor went aflame. Yes, fire extinguishers are a must, more than one as well. They are required by CG regulations, of course
Caution and prep, boat, car, pickup, truck, airplaine, all the same and need done. Guess Fred is pissed at Alfred now, distracted by the excitement and didn't catch him in the water getting us these shots.
Looks like they were trying to eliminate evidence of a gas spill on the water before the fire department or EPA showed up. This video can probably get them some pretty decent fines and trouble.
Or more than likely they were trying to disperse the gasoline on the water so it doesn't ignite and burn the dock down that would be my first guess. Probably melted the fuel line and dumping all the water inside the boat to put the fire out cause the bilge pump to turn on and pump the gasoline out of the boat onto the water.
There are several videos on UA-cam here that you can watch and see when a boat explodes due to not running the blower. Watch a few and it will give you some incentive to remember! People who survive such explosions rarely have much hearing left. Just sayin.
I had this exact thing happen to me on a boat I once owned. The flame arrestor was coast guard approved. I believe the explosion was cause by a battery terminal getting hot when I was cranking the engine. And of course I didn't use my blower. I jumped out of the boat like John McClain and lived to learn from my mistake.
This is why you vent before during and after fueling before u hit that key make sure your blower is blowing and it’s been blowing for at least ten minutes then crank that puppy up shouldn’t have a problem if done correctly, but in this case they should’ve let it burn insurance would’ve gotten him a new boat now he has a burnt marshmellow for a boat
When did this happened ? I was at Black Point yesterday but returning after 6pm… it was the craziest day I’ve seen yesterday ! 2 people crash with other boats and with the rocks while waiting in line to pull out of the ramp 🙄
I don't understand this mistake. My father taught me about how critical the blower is when I was like 10 yrs.old. he had a 1968 18' Donzi. They had an engine cover like a big hatch door with vents on all four corners. He yelled at me when I forgot . He really lost it. It hurt my feelings at the time. Hard lesson that would've been worse if it had lit up.. my engine in my jetboat is fully exposed with the Bassett headers. Maybe an unconscious choice.
ALFREAD,hello, gee what great luck, no really raking fire, my sister, came to FLA in80, same time as the MARIEL BOATLIFT,SHE TOLD ME ABOUT A VERY LARGE CABIN CRUSIER,OWNED BY AN MD,, he put the FUEL INTO A VENT PIPE AND STARTED TO PUMP GAS,had no idea how much, but there was an explosian& fire, he was burned, but it burned to the waterline,, MD without BRAINS ! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
They got lucky! More than 1 fire extinguisher to cuz if it does go its got nothing but fuel! 30 miles out about 2am could smell fiberglass burning could tell where it was coming from back home found out it was a boat 100 miles away burned to the water line
An important aspect of this video is the apparent lack of the fire department. Did they show up out of camera range? These people got lucky. This situation could have gone the wrong direction so fast.
in our navy small boats, less than 50 ft, if we couldn't put out our FB fire in 5 min or less, we abandoned ship. withen that time, that fiberglass, oils would separate and now you have a bravo fire and good luck putting that out with water.,.
Had a boat burn up off the coast can't remember the cause but the smell was horrendous we were offshore and the fire was offshore about 60 miles away it smelled so bad like someone was doing fiberglass work. At the time I was like who glasses a boat and takes it out the same day! LOL
My engine caught fire once. I removed the cowl as my first mate calmly handed me the extinguisher. I put out the fire as the wives were about to jump ship. The whole thing happened in less than a minute. The ranger showed up and asked if we had a fire. I said it was just a little fire as we were already on our way.
There is an astounding statistic from OSHA. Something like 1 in 3 rescuers in life threatening situations die in the attempt to help. Absolute insanity to stand in the smoke produced by that fire. Poisonous fumes produced by fire kill more people than the actual heat or flames. I know that this appears to be a success but if there had something that produced poisonous fumes when burnt it could have turned out really bad.
AM: "I almost fell in the water guys"

better hope sir fred has eaten lol

Boat on fire, fire put out, so chill out Dude!

Slow, Fire Dept response!! New engine OUCH!!!
Nice work by the dock crew, at Lagerhead!

Wow, gotta run that blower!
Great job Alfred 👍✌️
The thought of that was always on my mind.

My dad used to do the same thing lift up the hatch run the blowers and wait a few minutes for the fumes to clear he never did take a chance

Chit show is guaranteed action. Thanks for the camera work Alfred. Just don't fall in the water. Fred is always waiting for an opportunity
I saw a boat who's captain didnt put on the bilge blower before starting up. BOOM! People flying through the air and boat burned to the waterline!
:(

When I saw, Anthony run!!! The Chit show was live!!

That is a tragedy. Be very careful around that area.
I've always had suspicions that Fred is a dragon in disguise.
Happy Monday! Great work Alfred.
Its not over yet wait for it as Fred appears and Alfred jumps to dry land. Lol
Good morning from Minnesota Alfred! Bummer about the guys boat, that’s not a way to start the day!

@@calaannkihata There is a rear entrance to that Boat warehouse, maybe they are going there with the boat.

Fred was like- I am waiting for it! Damn… when I smash the like instead of tapping it do I get a prize?
Yeah, I saw one explode and burn to the water line. Same, forgot the blower.
You can salvage that, Albert!😄😄😄 wait for it...

I should really start running my blower. Always forget. Maybe he wasn’t using a coast guard approved flame arrestor.

That’s the beginning of a bad day
If you were that boat next to it.... wouldn't you be moving your boat WITH A QUICKNESS!!!
Invention idea.... Ignition interlock with bilge blower and fume detector.
why was that dude spraying the water?
This is why you vent before during and after fueling before u hit that key make sure your blower is blowing and it’s been blowing for at least ten minutes then crank that puppy up shouldn’t have a problem if done correctly, but in this case they should’ve let it burn insurance would’ve gotten him a new boat now he has a burnt marshmellow for a boat

My 1st time visiting this marina and this happens. WOW..!
The blower should be part of the ignition switch (like an electric fuel pump), with a proper delay before it can start the engine(s).
They got lucky! More than 1 fire extinguisher to cuz if it does go its got nothing but fuel! 30 miles out about 2am could smell fiberglass burning could tell where it was coming from back home found out it was a boat 100 miles away burned to the water line
When they spray the water like that our friend that means there’s gasoline
With a name like mine... I know money when I see it. THAT WAS another Money Shot by the King Alfred.
Most blower fires are explosions not just a small fire. At least the ones I’ve seen.
They said it started small and quickly got larger.
Glad no one was hurt.
An important aspect of this video is the apparent lack of the fire department. Did they show up out of camera range? These people got lucky. This situation could have gone the wrong direction so fast.
fortunately just a fire. failure to use compartment blowers can cause big explosions.

Boats burn like a Roman candle
There’s a guy behind the boat on fire who has a lit cigarette in his yap.
I swear I could smell the smoke from here.
They were crazy to put that boat inside so soon after the fire, they should have left it outside for a day
So why was the guy in the orange just standing by and not doing a damn thing? Was that the owner?
Pretty sad emergency response for a fire a fuel dock. Garden hoses instead extinguishers.
With no Fire truck for miles around, the loggerhead staff used what they had at their disposal to at least stop the Fire from spreading.

Bust out another thousand
Oh lord Jesus it’s a fire! I didn’t grab my shoes or nuthin’ Jesus!
Was it a dockhand the started the engine or the owner
Break out another thousand!!!

What time was this? I spoke to you a couple times going out and coming in, (multiple personalities lol)
Morning
Fred had a BBQ
Probably not turning the blower on before starting motor.
Stand in the water and Fred will give you a ride closer.
Fred set the fire so you'd jump in the water.
The CO2 or mabye a chem dry I cant see it that well extinguisher saved the day.
Watch the employees using water hoses to disperse the oil sheen on the water. Illegal.
If it was fumes it would have blown up l think it was electrical.
Feel sorry for the boat owner but the video was cool
Watch out Fred is next to you!
Fred has done that more than once, Alfred doesn't like any "close Encounters" to happen to him.
So is there a boat on fire or?
Great job to Freedom guys.
Where are ALL the fire exting. ????
I hope Fred is ok
bro next project "toast". or you just do " Blup blup blup".
every boat should have fire suppression system
@3.09, did that guy walking on warf have a cigarette in his mouth 🙁
Yes, Crazy ! That's a gas Dock !
wow, 5 dollars a gallon,sign says...
Why are they hosing down the water?
Gas can burn on top of water and sometimes you can't see it.
Never seen a boat on fire before? Drama queen!!
Everyday J.T stop acting like a snowflake in my comment section
Huh, why didn’t you call 911 instead of filming this?
Filming this is his job for starters. Second, 911 probably got 30 calls about that fire from everyone else
Petrol engines... oh America!!
What’s going on baby lol
a marina with out a fire extinguisher ????????????
And a gas station no less !
bad things happens
