Journaling: How to Write Stream of Consciousness ✏️

  • I share a lot about morning pages and stream of consciousness writing, yet I haven't actually explained what it is exactly. Since I've been doing this for years, I forget that it doesn't come naturally at first. It's something that gets better with practice.
For me, stream of consciousness writing is a way to understand what's going on within, listen to my inner voice, and strengthen my intuition. I can confidently say that almost all of my accomplishments began in some form of stream of consciousness writing.

This is so weird, I discovered a similar technic, but for studying, I used to suck at math, and always I had an exam, I got so nervous, and when reading a book, I used to be so anxious and not feel good If there was something I couldn’t understand, but one day, I decided it was ridiculus, and that it wasn’t ok, so what I did was, If there was something I was having problems understanding, instead of thinking, I will take a pen, and write basically anything, from a draw that would describe the problem, or just writing a question like ¿ok what is the problem? ¿what is the part that I don’t understand? And from doing that everything else flowed, I kept writing and finally I was able to not just understand, but it was a deep understanding of the topic, I was so happy lol. But everything starts from not allowing yourself to get stuck, but rather just let your brain go. I hope you get my point, English is not my native language, I speak Spanish.

      @Dani_1012 6 років тому +5

Oh wow, that's a very smart way to learn things. If you don't understand something and are frustrated, just take a pen and find your own way of understanding it whether it's by drawing or writing it and explaining it your own way

Thanks for sharing - I remember when I first started I was SO judgmental with everything I was writing - it made me feel like a "bad person" at first because I saw I had so many judgmental thoughts. I see that as I "get better" at this, I am kinder to myself off the paper because I practice that non-judgement to myself and my thoughts. So much love, Jazz

I need this so much right now. I think I'm gonna give it a try. Today I had a bad day and , after talking to my loved ones, I felt this urge to write down everything that was making me angry and then to take a deep breath and write down new resolutions to make myself stronger everyday. I know what's the problem. I need to let go of negative people, but I don't know how. At least, I need to teach myself how to let go of their words. 💪 thanks Aileen, always on time ❤

Hi, I'm really grateful for the idea with asking myself "why". I have serious problems with my self-esteem and self-confidence which led me to depression without even realizing it myself. Normally this kind of lifestyle and raising your self-confidence advice videos never helped me at all, I was doubtful and actually they led me to even worse mood. A few days earlier I decided to go to a specialist and I still have to wait two months for the first visit, but just realizing that it's depression made me want to fight for myself.
Anyway, today I tried your advice and it made me realize things about myself. I think it's a great idea and I guess the first step to heal is understanding why we do what we do with a little compassion and consideration. Thank you for sharing and adding a small brick.

Hello, Lavendaire! I'm from Dominican Republic and I'm so happy that I found your channel. This is a wonderful way to focus on how we feel. I remember that in the last month, I was confused and sad about me and my goals and i dedicated some pages of my bullet journal to make a reflection of my day at night, like speaking to myself and telling me how I was feeling and what were the reasons why I felt like that and also what were the things that were stopping me, why I felt I didn't deserve some things and literally, later on, reading that I could find all the reasons and work to achieve my personal goals. I'm obsessed with learning English and your channel is really useful for me, I already know English but I have to improve my pronunciation. I love your content because I work every day in my self love. Thanks a lot!

thank you. I remember this method when I watched your videos, I thought it was good but a lot of times when my head was full of thoughts doubts and problems I still felt like I didn't want to try. its too much effort, it might just get me more and more depressed about my thoughts as I go because I tend to go darker and darker, but after a long time I tried it today. just now, I finished writing 8 a5 pages. seriously I didn't even notice that I flipped pages so many times while writing. since yesterday I felt so miserable and negativ, I got headaches from thinking about things there seemingly were no solutions for and today I decided to give it a go and I feel so much better. sure I was negativ in the beginning I wrote that I wanted to cry all day and the next days too but I feel good now. I feel so much more at peace. I'm so glad I tried it. it seemed like such a huge problem to tackle that I thought would take days, weeks to feel better again, but actually this was more than enough right now.
thank you for sharing all your insights, you are a real inspiration and a truly amazing person. best wishes 😊

I once worked with a therapist who recommended a meta-stream-of-consciousness exercise that was really helpful, where you basically do what you described for maybe 5-10 minutes, writing any thought that crosses through your mind. Then you go back and read what you've written, and do another 5-10 minutes of writing observations and reflections about what you just wrote, for example noting any patterns or revelations, challenging any unhealthy thoughts. They described it as learning how to be your own therapist.

I actually stopped journalling stream of consciousness for about six months now because what I noticed was I tend to spiral down some pretty negative thoughts and for me instead of just addressing them I tend to sort of validate the irrational negativity that I have by getting it on paper. I don't know how to write stream of consciousness as a way to heal.

郭女王 Tofu imagine you are your own best friend, your own motivator. When you see those negative thoughts, you can express them and let them out. Then reply back to yourself with love, as a best friend would, and see where that leads. You have multiple sides within you. Explore the positive side that believes in love and healing.

Lavendaire thanks such great advice. I use to journal a lot more often but have stopped for similar reasons. I felt like I wrote when things were bad in my life and sure it helped with getting it out but I was missing this component. Replying back to myself with love. Thank you for that perspective it’s helpful! Xo

@@lavendaire You dont know how much I needed this advice. I have been writing SOC for years. But I have always journaled negative thoughts and emotions hoping to one day feel better but everytime I felt that there were no changes at all. Thank you.

this was kind of what I needed right now. I have oral exam today. and feel no prepared at all. But now i am going to put pen to paper and write down all the things i actually know, stream of consciousness style.

Have you ever heard of "The secret"? It's a book which is exactly what you are talking about
That you should feel like something you want to happen in the future already happened and if you think that it's already happened, it will happen ( I hope you understand what I'm talking about hups)
and it works with all of the things you are talking about (Ok not with stream of consciousness but i think you know what i mean) Sooo i just wanted to say that there is this book and i think it's a good book to read if you work with something like this

This is very helpful. I’ve written in stream of consciousness several times and didn’t realize that’s what it was. Now I can do it consciously :). I just heard Paul Simon say in an interview that he wrote part of “Mrs. Robinson in S of C. That lead to my search that landed me here.

I'm so glad you made a video on this!! I tried doing your morning pages thing back in November and I was always a little unsure what to write or if I was doing it right or something. Turns out it's simpler than I thought 🤗 I love hat you connected it to mediation too! I never looked at it like that!

i do this by recording myself instead of writing.. because writing takes time, but recording is going with the flow of thoughts 100%.
i do journal yes, but for this, recording has always worked for me :) i can listen to it later and take notes on what needs to be changed or healed ..

you are absoulotly amazing! can you please make a video about books, like how many total books you have and where do you keep them and how you arrange them. Plus, ways to start reading books, how to finish a book, how to feel connected with a book and any tip you might have i'm sure we would love it and it will help somehow.

This helped me a lot when I had really bad anxiety phases, but I should to it more often. I think it's also good to do this in a Word document. I've done this a few times, when I was very mad at someone and it helped a lot to get my feelings down faster than with a pen :)

    • @heidibowie549

I rarely pick up a pen anymore, and I am more comfortable on a keyboard. Typing in Word is a great alternative!

    • @lavendaire

oh yeah i forgot to mention that! haha i'm so used to writing in notebooks because i love it, but lots of people would probably prefer typing too :)

I just started my first entry on Word today. and it was so enjoyable! usually writing with pen and paper does not work for me because my mind works faster than my hand, the thoughts just flow freely and it usually aches after I write a lot. So typing on Word as fast as my thoughts was really fun.
