This is the first time someone has actually explained to me how and where confidence comes from and not just say "you just have to believe in yourself!". I've always been the type of person that had to know every nook and cranny of something in order to believe in it. So the way you broke confidence down to a step-by-step kind of thing and explained it was extremely helpful to me. Thank you your videos are saving my senior year in high school 😭😂❤

Ugh, those P.E. classes... hated them, embarrasment granted for those of us who were not into sports. I totally get your story cause though I was good at baseball I sucked at soccer, basketball, voleyball, tennis... my fellows yelling at me... ew, bad memories. I was never more happy than that moment when I was told that in the last year of highschool here in Spain we didn't have to do P.E. I almost cried X'D
On the other hand, I've always been a good student and I have been drawing since ever, and got praised because of my creativity, so I'm confident about drawing, learning and writing, but not about sports. So that part of your story is practically the same as mine :)
Find your talents, that's where self confidence starts

We had a unit on FOOTBALL one year which I never understood in the slightest and I think I refused to participate so my gym teacher had me write a report on football to keep from failing me and I didn't really get that either but I must have written a half way decent paper about it... Even reading and writing about football was torture for me.

Basketball in PE went like this... The hot shot jocks showed off while the rest of us ran back and forth like lemmings. One year I had this friend and we spent the whole time taking and waking back and forth on the sideline and somehow got away with it. Lol.

I can definately relate to being the sensitive goody-two-shoes child who often felt misunderstood and didn't reveal their interests if they sounded too scary. I really agree with your point about how the little wins are what gives you the confidence for the big ones. As an artist I've had pieces that others have called "failed experiments" yet I saw them as major moments of growth and worth it because of what I learned. I would not have had the courage as soon to make larger- scale, more ambitiotious pieces if I had not done the smaller, less- successful ones as passionately as I did. Thanks for sharing your stories ❤ glad I found your channel 🙂

I'm short, 145 cm. I was good at sport, I was a runner and also play volleyball in Junior high, but I moved school when I was in high school, nobody know me and they had the competition between class. I was in the volleyball team but no one believe I can play so they put me in substitution, I was so upset and almost cried. (We actually never have any practice together so they didn't know I can play.) Then in the first game, we had no point for too long and about to loose the first game, so the teacher sent me in and I hitted the ball and scored many point for the team. I heard a loud cheering and I was so proud. The year after, we had another competition on Softball and then I was in the team in the first place, no one look at me the same way anymore, they know that I'm stronger than I look! Our class lost in the final round but it was so fun since we were helping and cheering each other!!!

Oh my goodness I've done the SAME THING in a gym class where a bunch of popular guys told me to run during kickball. I ran when I wasn't supposed to and made a total fool of myself 😣 I love your self introspection bc you're right, that experience led to me hating sports and is why I do a lot of exercise by myself. Great video!!

I exercise at home with youtube vidos because I can't bring myself to a gym. I thought I was just lazy but you girls just made me realise that I'm just scared of exercising in front of people because of previous experiences. I keep telling myself that when I'm fitter I will go to a gym. I'm reaching my goal for 2017 of exercising twice a week (before I was extremely inconsistent and therefore unfit) and I'm very happy about it, so maybe it is time to set a new goal 🙌

I took risks in pursuing art as a career and I've never seen small wins the way you do up until now. Looking back in my journey, I do have small wins like doing a live stage demo for a brand and conducting a workshop for five people. Right now, I'm putting the value and importance of my small wins. Now I realize that I'm actually making progress and I'm craving for more! I'm doing action now by taking more risks like revive my UA-cam channel or make my own line of stationery and creative products. Thank you Aileen for your story. We need more people like you in this world. Keep doing your thing. xx

This is my first time ever commenting on someone else's UA-cam channel and I am really entranced by this video. For that, I am eternally grateful for your effort and confidence in condensing and recounting your stories to us. I was a very confident girl back in high school: everyone knew me for my self-confidence in socialising, academics and personalities. However, one day, I was attacked by impudent and impertinent comments from my close friends which plunged my self-confidence level in a really deep pit. I was very grateful that high school was over and college started. I took small steps in making new friends and joined clubs but I wasn't consistent as flashbacks of that horrific moments in high school kept replaying in my mind, reminding me how despicable I was.
When uni started, I felt extremely refreshed and made even more new friends and even joined a social event where I met lots of amazing people. I was really grateful for that opportunity and I vowed to join more. Opportunities upon opportunities knocked on my door, but I kept rejecting them as I still felt doubtful of my communication skills. Aileen, you're right, small victories build confidence. I do have many small victories but I just don't intend to pursue them. Therefore, this year (2019), I shall put in more effort in harnessing my personal skills and self-confidence. Love you lots x.

    Ι want to hug you!
Me , as a person , I really enjoy helping others when I can. For example if someone needs water or information about bus stops etc and even more important things I think "WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?". For example , a girl in my class needed water and a paper cup in order to take a painkiller but it was very unlikely for her to find any because the class was outdoors. Anyway in a small house (offices and labs) where I went for the wc with some other girls I saw a teacher and asked him for a paper cup and he found one and gave it to me. I WAS SO HAPPY with the cup and went to the girl. I was like "mission accomplished" in my head.
I don't know if you feel that way sometimes but you're doing so much more not only for one girl.
Every video you make , you give yourself and every second is full of love. You can't see our eyes when you speak to us , but we're so greatful and you have to know it.
    I'm so greatful

I was sooo shy middle school and back. I remember watching a highschool play my freshman year and thinking “wow, I wish I was on stage.” It wasn’t until my sophomore year in highschool that I actually started trying out for theatre and became lead trumpet in band. I am now a junior and a lead in the musical. Besides that, trying out these things definitely helped my confidence grow and I am still growing☺️

Update: I've just watched the video and I never thought about it this way. I have always thought about it as something you're born with, not something that grows over time. I also saw it as one big thing, not much little ones. I saw it like you had confidence, or you didn't, not that you can have confidence in music, but not in sports. As I thought, this really helped me and I wanna thank you again Aileen.

I used to also think that confidence is either something that you're born with or it's due to a certain trait (like good looks for example). And even though we are all born with confidence (I've never seen an insecure toddler) we eventually lose some of it or gain some of it through out our experiences and feedback from our surroundings. Once I started studying the minds of successful people I realized that confidence is a SKILL. It is something that you intentionally train your mind to do. Our brain is a muscle. We exercise our body to be fit and we have to train, exercise, and program our minds as well. It doesn't happen overnight but the good news is that we can all be the people we want to be if we set that intention and are consistent with achieving it. :)

Funny thing, when you talk about your lack of confidence in sports. I had the same thing happen to me. And I focused on the win of hitting the ball & decided to learn the rules of baseball & since then I’ve been very confident in athletics. Baseball, basketball, track, volleyball, etc. Just from actually hitting the ball that one time in baseball & while at the same time making embarrassing mistakes because I didn’t know the rules. My point, we had the same experience (mostly), but we chose to place our focus on different parts of the outcome, therefore creating a self fulfilling belief. In the end everything happens for a reason. Your little wins have built you up a very successful life. Congrats!!! Here’s to many more wins!!!

This is so interesting and relatable. During high-school I had so much confidence in art, the school put all my work up in the hall, I used to overhear people in awe and I won awards. I loved bringing people joy through my work. Then I went to college and it felt like it was less about technical skill and more about capturing dark inner meaning. I got a bad grade and was labelled "more of an illustrator" which was meant as an insult. It has taken years to build confidence back up. It seems to take a lot more wins to recover from a single knock back. I'm now embracing the fact I prefer joyful art and create pet portraits, wildlife art and have written a childrens book with my daughter which I'm currently illustrating. I just need to shine more light on those wins again. Thankyou 🙏

THIS is truly beautiful. THANK you for sharing. it seems that when my confidence started was when I was a kid and I had it all. but then people calling me names like "goodie goodie or bookworm" made me doubt who I am or just wanted to fit in. not everyone understands but when you're not confident or have that self trust is so sad and you end up in depression or in a bad state of mind.
I kind of like the word "self growth" instead of self love. It just feels more realsitic.

I thought how can there be a role model when you are open minded and ready to allow inspirations from everywhere.. but in the wink of the moment .. after following you for quite a time.. I realized You are my role model.. It has nothing to do with open minded.. both can coexist.. The fact is I never before came across someone like you😍😍

Lavendaire, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this matter. I have a friend who lacks so much self confidence in herself. She has a constant nagging fear of failing and being judged because of those failures. She has had many experienced in the past where she was judged by her weight, her ability to do certain tasks, what she wears, and many more. I now hope to help her by trying to bring these small wins into her life to help build that confidence in her because of this video! Thank you so much again!! :)

But I don't want to give up yet, because even though my relationship with my artwork has been heavily scarred over the past 3 years, I know I'll never be my true self without expressing who I am and what I believe through it. I've got big tears streaming down my face, and I think I gained a little bit of confidence just watching a couple of your videos. I can't wait to watch more of your content.

Thank you so much for sharing! You helped me look at things from a different angle. I have struggled with self-confidence ever since I was in primary school (Australia). I still am, and I am hoping that I can grow in this area of my life. It is not always easy to feel confident. I know how it feels because I was also like that, mainly in high school. There were somewhat a few areas of interest that I felt or believed I was not good for, which have impacted on my confidence as a young woman. Just so you know, I also took the liberty of downloading your videos as a reminder for me. I really need this in my life. Thank you for this! God bless you and your UA-cam channel!!

You just gained a subscriber and I’m now watching all of your videos 😂

I love this! LOVE this! It's so important to remember those small wins that validate certain aspects, efforts, and passions in our lives. Our society currently and for a long time now has taught us that only "Big" wins are to be celebrated. That the small achievements don't mean anything or make a difference. Yet it is those CONSISTENT small wins that add up and truly make the most impact! Especially in our personal lives because they motivate us to be proactive, productive, creative....and to keep putting in the effort in the things that we love and are passionate about. ✨⭐🙏⭐✨

I have a two year old - when i heard you say you overheard your teacher saying how good you are at piano, that makes me think of and be aware of what i say to others about my son, especially if hes within earshot. Making an effort to not keep the good things about him to myself but sharing it with others and letting my son hear those good things. I did that last week after his dance class - grandma was in the car and i said, Kevin is a really good dancer! She agreed with me and praised my son. I think it was a great feeling for all =D

I recently a really important exam that was about to literally change my life, and so I've been struggling to get things done this week, I barely ate, drank a lot, and just kept thinking about how much of a failure I was. But now that I've seen this video I feel so much better. I don't think I've ever heard a better piece of advice. I feel so inspired and willing to get back the small confidence that I had and that disappeared when I got my exams results. There are so many hobbies that I have that no one knows about and in which I stopped practicing because I was feeling way less talented than others (like drawing or writing for example). You made me want to go back at it and try. Thank you so so much you don't know how much I needed this. ❤

Your a lot younger than me. But i look up to you because your very smart and very genuine Person. I wish i was as smart as you are. I have no confidence i tried so many times to get my master degree and as soon as i take i take a class i get anxiety and overwhelmed with full time job at the edge of failing class i drop it all together. That killed my confidence that all my friends have good jobs and thier degrees and im stuck where i was all these years.
