Great video! Journaling is very therapeutic for me. I started using this and art therapy to help improve my mental state. For me, I use the journal to write out my feelings (good or bad) about situations. This has helped me get into problem solving mode because the emotion is not bottled in anymore, and I’m not letting emotion cloud my decisions. I also use it to talk about things that may seem mundane, like rearranging my cabinets, but I talk about the why as well as the benefits that I got out of it.

Just found your channel. So pleased. Something near and dear to my heart. I ' ve been journaling since High school. There have been chunks of time when I have stopped- sometimes weeks or months. But I always find my way back to it. My Journal is my friend.
I call my daily journal texture of life. Reason for that is to avoid myself from forgetting what I have done on a certain day. I can always look back to check what things I bought, what amount of money I banked, or what important news I read. The more sentimental things would be written as essays pretty much like Michel de Montaigne's genre. Anyway, gratitude statements is new for me. I might add them in my daily texture of life. Thanks for your insight.
I credit a journal writing workshop instructor for getting me into journal writing. She was the coach I needed. She would call once a week to ask how I was doing and when I would tell her I was stuck, she would encourage me to start again. I was recuperating from a depression, and the journal writing habit took off. It helped immensely.
I have watched several videos about starting Journaling, but it was you among all who best explained "what's in it for me" to write a journal.... Thank you!
This is great! I've been writing consistently for six years. Intuitively, I've done step 1 and 2. Now I know that there's a purpose behind it and that research backs it up. Thanks for the video.
I journal every day, several times per day. I started about 13 years ago when I was trying to process the negative emotions of a bad relationship and then I kept it going. I find it very relaxing. Also helps me organize my thoughts so my thinking isn't so scattershot. Usually what I write is pretty banal, but I rarely read over it anyway. Over the past decade and a half, I know I've written several million words. I guess it's a kind of accomplishment?
Good advice there.... Also try some negative psychology. My old English teacher used to say, "Write about people, not things". True enough! Still, I find that while it is easy for us to gossip about other people, it is difficult when we put ourselves under the spotlight or microscope. The way I overcome this is to start writing about "things" in the form of a "project log". I begin by discussing some creative project I am working on, then I get into talking about my interactions with other people whom I cross paths with in relation to my project. I also begin analysing my own progress and personal development as they unfold from the said project. Before I know it, I am writing about people I have met, and also about myself; so the journal becomes as much about me as anything or anyone else. The "project" can be just about anything, such as: a trip/vacation, painting a picture, building a cabin, and so on. The world's your oyster. Enjoy!
I'll add # 3 into my routine, great idea. I also like to end an entry with to-do's for the next day no matter how trivial it may seem. It's fun looking back and seeing something like 'dry clean tux' since I'll remember that event. It's also very satisfying to cross off errands I procrastinated on.

This may be an Older Video But I'm Glad I Found it, I've been trying to get into Journaling Daily and I think these Tips will Definitely Help. I will Definitely be Checking Out the Rest of you're Videos.
Hi, I “journal” in five main areas. 1. Personal studies, (usually on biblical or spiritual matters). 2. Penmanship practice, (usually inspirational quotes). 3. Work or professional logs (a work notebook). 4. Current events/state of the world. 5. Short film and short story ideas. Would you recommend my writings be in separate journals or combined into a single journal? I ask because for the most part, the common thread in all my writing is that they all come in the form of brain dumps. An idea pops into my mind and I want to write it down. The problem is that in order to keep my writings organized, this means carrying five journals everywhere I go. Suggestions? BTW, thank you for this video. It was a great help.
Be very careful about writing down short short story or novel ideas. I was a professional writer for thirty years, and often an editor, as well. I know writing down ideas is common advice, and it has worked for some writers, but it's rare. As one pro put it, "It leads to a notebook filled with most bad ideas that you'll try to write. It won't work, and you'll get discouraged." Instead, when you get an idea, try to forget it. Try hard. If after thirty days it's still nagging at you, don't write down the idea, plant your butt and write the story. Whether you journal every day or not, if you want to be successful at writing fiction, you do need to write fiction very nearly every day. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise.
Ok, idk if it will help but this is the way I do it. I have the same problem as you, so what I did was to write everything in one journal, and I add post-its to it, as if it was a book, I use every color I can possibly use, so it's easier to identify what I wrote about

If you’re not a teacher… well you have a gift in how you explain things. You explain things simply and sincerely and you recap what you’ve taught. I love writing but now at 73 arthritis has set into my hands and I hate my handwriting and it’s difficult to do. I used to take such pride in my penmanship but now it’s a source of frustration. Best not to hold onto things too fiercely… all things go.
This is the only video I clicked the like button in a long time, just because of the way you asked it. It sounded so wholesome. I don’t even like the video’s I like, but this was an exeption keep up the good work. This video really helped my journaling :)
Thank you for posting this video. I just came across your video as I’m going through some major stress in my life right now. Your tips on three times it’s best to journal has been enlightening and has helped me reframe my thinking on journaling. It doesn’t have to be once a day! Thank you for the inspiration. Looking forward to more videos!
That's actually really good life advice. came here looking for how to journal write a Journal for an assignment and could have possibly left with something that will limit my anxiety. I think I'll give it a go.
I've been journaling for decades. I switched to digital notebooks, but I'm going back to a traditional pen and paper. How would you recommend getting a young person to start journaling and reap the benefits rather than it feeling like an assignment?
Excellent question! I would recommend a "dialogue technique". Draw a doodle of some sort and ask them to finish the drawing and write a story. Or write a simple question for them, ask them to answer it, and then they write a simple question for you! This has worked with my young ones on rainy days when we turn off their screen time! :)
I use both handwritten and digital. Seems to work for me. I carry around my notebook and during the day I'll write in it so that I'm not rude and punching keys on my phone, like during meetings. Then at the end of day I scan all my handwritten stuff into my weekly journal I set up in Evernote. Then if there's something important I noted I can add a tag to it and find it later. Journaling for me is like a major brain dump. I have a stressful job and it helps to slow down and write stuff or type it out. Once I get it documented I forget it and move on.
If you're talking about the law of manifestation, stay away from it. It's childish nonsense, and it can quickly ruin your life. The universe doesn't work that way, and life doesn't work that way. If you want to write down something like that, then be smart and write down your plan that details the work you're going to do to get what you want. A good plan, a good education, and hard, smart work are how things are really manifested. And SMART is the key, with education next. Smart work is how people rise above the masses, Hard work without the smart tacked in front of it just gives you a bad back and a lousy retirement package, often just social security.
I just got heavily motivated for writing a journal....this video was very usefull for me. I am taking my 1 St step towards this greatly benefiting habbit and i sware to stick to it .... Thank You
Wow!! Great video...I did an elearning course today on the subject of daily journaling and it said- tell the story of your day- what was your accomplishment/what challenged you/ what did you think went well/ what did not go as planned- kind of like the retrospectives that you spoke about in the other video. It also said breakdown your priorities in all areas of life and see if there are any overlaps which you need to avoid. Reflect on the decisions that have been taken.
I'm one of those people who has been keeping a diary from way back. I started my diary on July 5, 1976, when I was 15. It was on-and-off for a while, but then it became a daily part of my life. I write about what happened, what I'm thinking and feeling. One of my favorite books is "A Book of One's Own -- People and Their Diaries", by Thomas H. Mallon, PhD, and published in 1983.
I have journalism since I was 15 (I am now 58). But i am not a daily journaller. I find that I am more consistent when I am dealing with really highs, or really lows.
I had a recent dream, about where I used to work, someone said, Dan you write all this stuff down, do you ever go back and read it ? TBH, rarely if at all....or I find it years later and sometimes, nothing has changed....guess I should pay more attention ?? I am grateful I found this and can improve...
I generally journal because I don't have anyone to talk to about things. The gratitude journal I've been pretty good about doing daily. My other journaling is consistent for a while, and then I might have a month long "hole". Mostly my journal is a bitch session, but by the end I generally feel better and often have some answers to things that I didn't see before. After about 20 years, I burned my box of journals. This last 20 years, I read them first before I burned them. It was REALLY interesting to read about things I went through 10-20 years ago from a current perspective!
I don’t journal everyday, I journal when I have an epiphany about what interests me of, like current events, religion etc. I do journal when I have an input to put into the book. It’s relaxing for me, it helps me relieve stress and reflect upon my actions. Like I write like 18 times in a month .
Writing everyday is not essential, but it does help. One trick to help you write every day is to carry a pocket journal. As you go through the day, just make quick little notes about what happens. Just a sentence, a memory jogger, is the right term. This can give you something to write about before you go to bed. If there's nothing worthwhile in the memory joggers that day, then there's no need to make a journal entry. But if there is something, you'll remember it. To use a [phrase I've heard somewhere not long ago, Research shows that writing in a journal can cause epiphanies. In fact, this is one of the main reasons people have kept a journal for thousands of years. Thinking things out in writing has led to more epiphanies, and more inventions, for that matter, than any other technique. ,And research shows that cursive writing works best because it affects the brain very differently than print. So thank your lucky stars if you know how to write in cursive. If not, it's very, very smart to learn how. Of all forms of writing, electronic journals are by far the least effective. Which doesn't mean they can't work for some people.
I encourage my students to journal and I use this analogy to encourage them. First I ask them, "how many of you have ever had an upset stomach and after throwing up, you felt better ?" Most hands go up. I tell them, that that is what Journaling does for me and I tell them I call it Mental Throw up. Lol. When I have a thought that I can tell I'm stuck on or it's creating some level of stress, that simply by writing it down, seems to unlock the block and allows me to move on, so to speak.
Sir. Can you go into detail explaining a little bit more about stream of consciousness, and the other two phases of journaling? I'm still a little bit confused.
Hi dear professor Thank you so much for your help and advice. I really appreciate your job. I wish you peace and happiness under the sky of prosperity. All the best. Have a good time. Your follower from Algeria not Nigeria
I’m 16 and I have 2 journals, in one I write everything that happened during my day and all that things. And in the other one I write every idea or thought it comes to my mind, like how I’ve been feeling lately or “deep” questions to make my think about that, for example, I try to solve paradoxes or try to answer things like, hay do I think what I think? What’s my purpose right now?. I don’t use my journal as a planner cause it doesn’t work for me, instead I have a board above my desk so I can see what do I need to do
I used to journal. When I was reporting my actions, I felt useless and depressed. When I was reporting my thoughts and philosophies I felt even more useless and depressed. It was getting worse and worse, until I decided to stop. Journaling is for pesimists with happy life, not for optimists with miserable life. Now I don't journal and I feel much happier and optimistic again. I think I am a great example why journaling is not for everyone.
I found this useful and your channel goals fitted well with my aspirations. Sorry to see you no longer post videos. I hope all is well with you. Have a good 2023. :-)

I was recuperating from a depression, and the journal writing habit took off. It helped immensely.
She sounds like a good mentor :)
Thank you so much, I really stressed out of what should I write to my journal and your video helps me a lot.
I have watched several videos about starting Journaling, but it was you among all who best explained "what's in it for me" to write a journal.... Thank you!
Thank you! Best journaling video I’ve watched so far. I’m looking forward to putting these into practice.
I enjoy journaling. It is a creative outlet for frustrations confusions and much more unknown to bring to life.
I started journaling this year and I love it.
If it helped you to honour God and your commitments, then, yes, it would be an accomplishment.
Enjoy!
writing my thoughts down when i feel overwhelmed is my favourite thing ever! makes a weight feel off of my chest
I'll add # 3 into my routine, great idea. I also like to end an entry with to-do's for the next day no matter how trivial it may seem. It's fun looking back and seeing something like 'dry clean tux' since I'll remember that event. It's also very satisfying to cross off errands I procrastinated on.
I start journal when i was 8
And.. i love it
Its relaxing!, Now i'm 17
I still like to journal every day in my journals.. i love it! Its so fun and relaxing to mee hhe
From no decoration and just basic journal..
Now its more aesthetic with more decoration and Better writing skills!
This may be an Older Video But I'm Glad I Found it, I've been trying to get into Journaling Daily and I think these Tips will Definitely Help. I will Definitely be Checking Out the Rest of you're Videos.
Glad it was helpful!
I am only 9 years old and i love journaling...all the colours just hypmatizing me 😍😍
Hi, I “journal” in five main areas.
It won't work, and you'll get discouraged."
Instead, when you get an idea, try to forget it. Try hard. If after thirty days it's still nagging at you, don't write down the idea, plant your butt and write the story. Whether you journal every day or not, if you want to be successful at writing fiction, you do need to write fiction very nearly every day. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise.
@@jamesaritchie1 this was enlightening. Thank you.
Ok, idk if it will help but this is the way I do it. I have the same problem as you, so what I did was to write everything in one journal, and I add post-its to it, as if it was a book, I use every color I can possibly use, so it's easier to identify what I wrote about
You could put tabs on pages denoting topic.
@@ramirolopez5381 - try using Ipad. It is easy to copy and paste your pages in the order that you want it to appear. It has been a lifesaver for me and it is available to you 24/7.
Thank you, writing before a big event is new n great idea... Will help me reflect a lot on the unwanted n overrated anxiety i m having... Or whatever feeling. I usually get soo stuck up with the event of exam... I can't even write n then after the event i write n it's like u don't remember all that went through before that event... Which will be beneficial for next time...
You’re so cute 🥺 you look like this shy history teacher that is nice to everyone, great video ! Imma start journaling now
Yah he is soooo cute😍😍
Hey, thanks so much for the video! It’s given me a realistic drive to journal!
I'm so glad!
This was awesome! Most comprehensive 6 minutes of journaling I've experienced. Thank you!
That's actually really good life advice. came here looking for how to journal write a Journal for an assignment and could have possibly left with something that will limit my anxiety. I think I'll give it a go.
You just changed my life, sir. I love you.
This actually makes me think of a few people that mention that they write what they want down every day until they achieve it.
Yess
If you're talking about the law of manifestation, stay away from it. It's childish nonsense, and it can quickly ruin your life. The universe doesn't work that way, and life doesn't work that way.
If you want to write down something like that, then be smart and write down your plan that details the work you're going to do to get what you want. A good plan, a good education, and hard, smart work are how things are really manifested. And SMART is the key, with education next. Smart work is how people rise above the masses, Hard work without the smart tacked in front of it just gives you a bad back and a lousy retirement package, often just social security.
@@jamesaritchie1 but manifestation is real tho
@@jamesaritchie1 manifestation works, you have to truly trick your brain to believe or else what you are manifesting will not show
I just got heavily motivated for writing a journal....this video was very usefull for me. I am taking my 1 St step towards this greatly benefiting habbit and i sware to stick to it .... Thank You
Hey dude. I appreciate this video, and I mentioned you in my first journal entry haha! Peace and love, brother.
Breaking down your priorities is a nice way to start identifying meaningful goals. Excellent feedback! Thank you!
Hmmm, tell the story of your day, that's a great tip, thank you!
Can you please share with us the details about or the links to the elearning course? I'd like to check it out for myself. Thanks!!!!
@@ShyamKumar-zb2mw It was on LinkedIn learning. I am unable to provide you with the link as it is a tie-up with my organization
I have been doing written, audio, and videos journal, since age 15, and I am 80 now, living in Queretaro, since 2021.
Thank you sir ☺️ this really motivated me to write a journal 📗
Subscribed the channel right after looking at its title. I've been journalling since I was 8
Great ideas! I feel that this is what journaling is about. I am going to write these.
Wonderful!
I’m grateful for this video and channel.
Thank you for teaching me on writing on a journal I have no idea to do on the finals of the exams thank you sir so much
This if very informative! You just received +1 encouragement from me!
These are simple, practical and helpful techniques. Thank you for this video!
Thank you so much for all these clear and precise tips.I'm gonna to suscribe immediately to your channel.
One of the best youtube videos I’ve ever seen! So helpful!
Thank you. I am going to try. I need this
I generally journal because I don't have anyone to talk to about things.
Thank you sir for helping me write a journal now I have alot of ideas for the final exam thank you so much
These are some very good journal tips.
I don’t journal everyday, I journal when I have an epiphany about what interests me of, like current events, religion etc. I do journal when I have an input to put into the book. It’s relaxing for me, it helps me relieve stress and reflect upon my actions.
Like I write like 18 times in a month .
Same here
18 times per month is an excellent track record. Nice work! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you my friend very helpful and informative video!
You legit gave the correct motivation to start writing journal
Sir. Can you go into detail explaining a little bit more about stream of consciousness, and the other two phases of journaling? I'm still a little bit confused.
Hi dear professor
Thank you so much for your help and advice.
I really appreciate your job. I wish you peace and happiness under the sky of prosperity.
All the best.
Have a good time.

I don’t use my journal as a planner cause it doesn’t work for me, instead I have a board above my desk so I can see what do I need to do
I find it easier just to draw or paint things im thinking in my journal cant exprss though writing what i can with art kinda weird but it works
your video its really help me for how to start flr journaling, tysm sir. ilysm
Thanks, I just started journaling a few weeks ago. I mainly use it to vent and scream. Write what I'm grateful for. How I'm feeling.
I journal because I wanna make a memory of what I did or what happen on that specific day.
this just gave me an idea thank u very much!!!!
i loveeeee ur channel too!
Thank you , Scott For someone who loves writing, you sir have just given me a present! BTW, I’m your new subscriber
Thanks for the advice, Scott! This motivated me to start a journa
Glad to hear it!
Your vídeo help me so muchhh. Thanks and Hi from Spain ❤️😊

Great video! This method is called expressive writing (by J.W. Pennebaker) and it‘s an amazing technique
Thank you !
Another great way to create good motivation and content in journal writing is to have several questions about your life and day.
Thanks for this!
That was very helpful! I wanted to start this for a long time, but didn't know how... Thank you!
Thank you, I loved your video ❤️
I don't like to move as fast as other people, I move at my own pace and I've been a diarist for the last 27 years cause I love pens and I love my writing. I practiced every day and learned my writing from my mother's handwriting techniques and in this mad technologically advanced society I'm very happy that I maintained man's greatest achievement....the written word. Phones will get you nowhere.
I try to write but idk how to Start , can u help me?
