1. Morning pages (first thing you see or think when waking up). 2. Freestyle aka brain dumping (inner dialogue to deal with anxiety and stress). 3. Bullet journal (organizational system of everything in one book). 4. Unsent letter (help with closure, write to someone not in your life, try writing to future self). 5. One sentence (daily affirmations, quick life update, book list). 6. Gratitude (focus on what you have). I use 2,4, and 6. I'm going to try "night pages" because I find myself getting ideas before I sleep :) Journaling is truly powerful!
@@MalamaLife how does journaling help in anxiety, pls help me I’m suffering from anxiety ,,,, I tried writing but there is no consistency ... what do I do
Mental clarity is becoming increasingly difficult with social media, working from home, zoom fatigue, etc. there’s something powerful about writing with a pen and paper, free of technology. thank you for this video
I agree with you completely! I feel like journaling is the only time I get to pick up a pen and write on paper nowadays :) thank you so much for watching
I am at home with my husband and 3 kids, sometimes I feel so stressed and I loose my temper and meditating, exercising and journaling has been the 3 things that have saved me since this crisis begun. I love what you said about journaling being our time to be ourselves, a time to say everything we think and feel just the way it is. Thank you Sophie for this wonderful video, I will keep on journaling and I will use some of this new techniques you said, blessings to you, Cristina
I was making the same mistake like you did, when I focused on aesthetics side of bullet journalling, I was stressful that I could not produce a ‘great’ looking journal like everyone else in social media.. I even bought the expensive journal. In the end it became a unenjoyable experience. I abandoned the journalling routine. Until last year when I had anxiety disorder, I started to write daily journal, not thinking anything about template, just write (or draw), and it was liberating, journalling becoming my routine and it was part of my healing. Now I’m adding habit tracker to my journal, monthly focus, and daily to do. It helped to be more mindful in making decision.
Thanks for sharing! It's important to me that I enjoy the journaling experience, so I try to make it as simple as possible. Otherwise, I know I won't be consistent with it. That's great you will be adding a habit tracker. It keeps me focused on my goals :) thank you for watching
I can relate to this soo much! I got kind of frustrated when starting to journal this year, because I always felt like I was not doing it good enough. Seeing this more realistic kind of jouraling definitely gave me a new motivation boost to just journal in whatever style feels good for myself and not trying to reach the „pinterest/instagram aesthetics“.

I was JUST thinking of “journaling” a thought this morning, skipped it, and then this video popped up. Your channel is so relaxing and such a good reminder. I have been wanting my little girls to get into journaling even though they can’t write yet. Just a drawing about the day and I will write the caption. Thanks for the inspo!
Thank you for sharing, been watching your vlogs for almost a week and i really love it. It's therapeutic, the tone & the way you speak, and of course the content of your videos is calming my mind. 😊
I do a mix in my journaling. I use freestyle and gratitude. I started bullet journaling which is almost like a planner to me but like you I focused on the aesthetic that I got tired of it. I stopped for awhile but am back journaling since i turned 50. Ive been writing journals on and off since I was in grade school, but as I got older I got busier and stopped. With me turning 50 in middle of pandemic, journaling has become a form of therapy. Thanks for sharing the techniques.
I love journaling. I always write the morning pages, but I combine them with the free style. I have learned this from "The artist's way". Every morning I write three pages, using my inner dialogue to flow. I have tried the bullet journal, but apparently is not for me
I used to journal but somehow just stopped doing it. Thank you for reminding me to get back to it. Your video surely gave me so many memories of my journaling journey :)
Oh my God, it’s like you are me. I have the exact same habits. It s so good reading that I m not alone with my habits. I am happy that I found your channel. You are truly helping me in a lot of ways. I am thankful for you 🙏❤️
Hi I write in my journal every morning or before sleeping. It s important for me to write all what s happened in my life all my future goals. Thank so much lovely day
This is such a lovely, calming and graceful channel. I've been researching slow living and ways of living more intentionally. Glad I found your channel..you have a very soothing presence and are very beautiful from the inside to the out. Great jounalling ideas, can't wait to try them out 💕
Ur vedio for me like a dessert for which u eagerly wait after a meal...I got ur vedio yesterday but I was very busy and tired but now it's weekend in my country and I will make a huge cup of tea and will enjoy ur vedio....u r such a great inspirstion to me....
I journaled alot when I lived in the country in my late 20's. I lived in Stowe, Vermont then life sped up when I returned to NYC. The hectic & work week left little time to be reflective. It was a shift into action mode. But I managed to switch my writing style to a form of instructions to myself since by my mid 30's since I had jumped into my passion full time & became a street artist. I would write out my step by step routine and short term future goals. I developed my inner nurturing dialog during those 7 years as a street artist. I spent all that time alone (directing) myself to produce and sell art, learning all the emotional ups & downs of that terrain. Around that time, age 35. I started using a Genesh mantra. You can look it up on UA-cam. It changed my thought cadence . It Condensed & configured my thought pattern. . So now I write paragraphs of poetry . Later I became an art teacher & while teaching I made a collection of these instructional poetic paragraphs. Which give non artist and artist insight into the creative process as well as life perspective. I hope to publish some day. ❤️
Your videos have something special! I love your voice, it's so peaceful! And it also helps me to learn a better english while I'm feeling so relaxed! Greetings from Spain 🇪🇸
Thanks for this, Sophie! I’ll try have that MORNING PAGES as well. As for me, I always do FREE-WRITING. After dumping my thoughts, I would usually make graphs or spider web to summarize or to point out the main themes. Usually, I do free-writing when I am worried about something or when I am trying to figure out solutions to my problems. It really helps me a lot as well. I have 3 journals. One is being used for my every day to do list. One is being used for my finances including my savings, expenses, budget, etc. It helps me reflect on the things I bought and how much more I can spend for the month. The last one is used to jot down the essential items I need to buy and the items I am getting rid of. I also write 5ere my mini projects like learning how to make soaps or learn how to make oat milk. Basically, that journal is dedicated for my slow living, minimalistic, and more sustainable lifestyle goals. This is like my main journal this year since this is where I do free writing. Again, thanks for this Sophie. I am also still working on my capsule wardrobe. I will post it on Instagram as soon as I am done. It really is super hard to let go of some items that have sentimental value huhu but I have already separated them in a box. I might sell them or donate them by the end of February.
Thank you so much for sharing this! super interesting to read what other people do to keep their thoughts organized :) also I would love if you share your capsule wardrobe. Seeing other people's neat and organized closet is oddly satisfying :) thank you for watching Anne.
Every day I write down three positive things that happened during that day. I feel that it helps me to focus on the good things in my life. This is especially important during lockdown when we are surrounded by so much negativity. Also, I find your vlogs very peaceful and calming to watch. You are so lucky to to live somewhere that you can go outside into the sunshine every day (a luxury that I don’t have) Thank you for your videos, I appreciate them 💛
Never thought how powerful journaling is. I even have moments wherein I just don't want to write but end up writing most. I learned that it is when you think that you need it least that it makes more sense to find refuge in writing.
🇬🇧 I love to journal, I’ve been doing this for over a year now. I do Journalling where I write about what’s been happening each day, I do Gratitude, Art Journalling and scripting (LOA), I have to do lists. All these have become my everyday rituals (part from Art Journalling, I do this when I want to be creative) and has helped me on my journey of self care, which is what we all need in times like these. Also keeps my mind occupied in lockdown, stops me from getting bored, I also have started reading old classics and annotating, so lots to do to keep your mind occupied and also teaching yourself too......sorry going off in one now haha 😂 x
I love the idea of art journaling Carolyn ❤ I used to doodle and draw all the time, but since have forgotten how much I enjoy it. I love that you prioritize journaling and have so many techniques of your own :) thanks for sharing
I loved these ideas for journaling. I dont do it currently but you inspired me. I always have anxiety. Hoping this will calm my inner thoughts. Thank you for these ideas.
So much wisdom in this video, I’ve been journaling for about 3 years now and I’ve been looking for some new ways to journal! This video was super helpful, I’m going to try morning pages and a letter to my future self.✨✨✨
my favorite way of journaling is the unsent letter.Actually it's more like my prayer in the journal 😅.I am one of those who are guilty on not praying before sleeping and waking up in the morning.it really helps me a lot and it's really calming like I'm a step closer to our Savior!I started journaling way back 2009.as a student apprentice in a foreign country, journaling helps me overcome every hardwork, disappointment and even anger...I think I should be writing unsent letter again not just bulleting!thank you for sharing us the importance of journaling!more powers!❤️
Inspiring video ✨ I love doing morning pages/free writing. I generally do it after meditation and write about what happened the day before, or dreams, or any insights during meditation. It has helped me so much to understand and assimilate my dreams, also to know myself better and watch myself out. What o love most about journaling is That o really get into the present moment. I find myself very concentrated on myself when writing. Love your channel ✨💕
I love that you do it after meditation. What a great way to organize your thoughts before writing them down. I'm sure there's so much you want to write about afterwards :) Thank you so much Alba
Hello from Australia. 😊 Have been binge watching your videos, as they are just so good. I turn 59 in 2022 and I need to change my mindset with many things and create new habits. You are both inspiring me and motivating me. Thank you so very much. Best wishes for your New Year. Ours begins in 1 hr and 10 mins. ☺ 🐨💐
Such useful tips to someone Who re-start journaling After... More thank 10 Years. I really appreciated when you put the Daily tasks and months.. I'm gonna try to make this work for me too, thank you! You are so kind and relaxing to listen to and to Watch .. to be honest your videos are part of my morning routine 😅❤️ kisses from Italy 😘😘🌹
I love writing, but I have trouble with organizing my journal so stricktly hihi. I always kind of miss the point of a bullet journal. As I have two little kids, for now I just use it as a way of playing. I add all kinds of beautiful illustrations, I jot down recipes and thoughts. Its a jumble. My good intention is to make the next one into a "real" bullet journal. I do use a bambook for lists and to dos, and the great thing is that I can actually wipe it clean when it's done. I love your method too, because you can look back and see what you've accompliced. Love your videos, they are very inspiring and a lovely way to start my day.
For folks who are curious about morning pages (which I love), it was developed by Julia Cameron and it’s one of the core practices in her book on creative recovery, The Artist’s Way. You write three pages of stream of consciousness writing first thing in the morning. Usually takes about 30 minutes or so. Cheers!
Thanks for this video and all your videos. I love them all. I agree on everything you say here about journaling. It's also my very favorite thing to do for myself and my wellbeing. Just wanted to send you a little word of encourageent for your effort and time you take to share these beautiful and positive messages with the world.
Yes, I recognize the aesthetics part. Having a journal that is not aesthetically pleasing has stopped me many times from making it a routine. I just started writing a journal again, and your tips are very helpful. I will try to focus on the process and not the end result of beautiful looking pages😀.
I really enjoy your videos, thank you for making them! I have been watching your videos these couple of days. It is calming and helpful. You are the only UA-camr I can watch for hours.
I keep an Agenda where I write different things that help me to keep focus, to be clear and motivated 🌎 It has been very useful. Finally, I realize the usefulness of it.
thank you for contributing this to us! i love how calm you are it is amazing! and really thank you cause i’ve just been seeing journals especially bullet journals that i think focus on aesthetics more and watching how you do it made me feel more relaxed. again thank you for this:)
Awesome content as usual, so addicted to your videos Ms. Sophie. ♥️ I started journaling during gradeschool days, i write everythings running on my mind, big or small achievements, my frustrations, my every day whereabouts.
I love you and your videos are very comfortable and relaxition , I have been using the organization for two years I used to organize my thoughts better .. Thank you♥️♥️
I really do enjoy your videos - so soothing to watch and listen to. I love the scenery, the classical music, the quotes you add, your voice, all of it. :) Thank you for producing these! I just started using a bullet journal late last year, and I've certainly learned you need to make it your own. Certain aspects are more or less useful for me, so I add or remove as desired. I've been keeping a thought journal for 2 years now, since my dad passed. It just helped me to write things down, more than I would have thought. Now I include any thoughts about major events, or any time I have a new idea about something, like a new discovery. I'm also documenting my journey into learning more about my faith. I do type my thought journal just b/c my hand gets tired after writing. :) I appreciate the techniques mentioned in your video - very helpful!
I love that you have your own way of bullet journaling as well. I have only benefited from it :) Thank you so much for sharing Diana. I really appreciate it!
What a coincidence I recently had to give myself this talk too. As always, thank you for your knowledge and for sharing it. My story: my SIL planned a mani/pedi party for a wedding in her family and invited everyone, including me. I do nails, so I was wondering who was going to service this party because I had no clue what was going on. Moments later she text me, “I need your help on this date.” I was furious because she expected me to help without asking me first. After I calmed down, I told myself, no, I don’t have to do this. So I gave her an excuse on why I couldn’t help. She seemed fine with my answer, but I kept beating myself up and questioning myself. Why? Because I know she’s going to talk crap behind my back. I know her. Then, I told myself. That’s on her, I can’t help it. I chose myself that day and it was hard but I feel such much better being the “bad/selfish” person than resentment. If you lose anyway, might as well do what you want.
Feeling guilty when we say No seems to be part of our DNA. However, this is something we need to work on. So good for you. You do you, let them talk. Brene Brown once said that “when you work hard to keep the peace on the outside, you wage a war internally. It’s not your job to make sure you don’t disappoint anyone.”
Wow, watching this video was as relaxing as meditation. Your voice is so calming. Excellent video, editing and especially SOUND. Great music choices, mixing, recording… To answer the question: I’ve journaled almost every day for many years. I used to use pen and paper, but found they were casualties of wear and tear. I started keeping a digital journal about 25 years ago and still have most of them (although again, occasional data loss, file corruption etc. still steals the occasional entry.) I mostly just write free form, but incorporate most of the other techniques from time to time whenever the urge strikes me.
You are amazing woman :) I've started watching your channel since couple days and it's fantastic for me to watch your way to be minimalist and your tips for life. You are so calm and chill in yourself and I fell in love with it :) Keep going with this channel. Congrats for you :)
May I say your just simple Amazing ❤ such a lovely life you both have. So many wonderful videos. A massive thanks 😊🙏 I enjoy every day to day lifestyle you both have Sophie ❤❤
Really great ideas Sophie!! I love the way you go through different ways of journaling! One type of journaling I did at work. I would put my thoughts about work in a daily email to myself. Often it would be about the successes I was having, but sometimes it was about the conflicts and hassles I was having. I would revisit them a few months later to see if the issues had been resolved. Often times the went away on their own! It was interesting to read those a few years later just to see how much I had grown!
What's your favorite way of journaling? :)
I’ve never really tried a structure to it. I just let my thoughts ramble, especially when I feel confused about something.
Thank you so much new subscribers here❤️❤️

It's such a great way to be present in the moment :) I'm glad you do it too!
I hope that you get back into it :) I know that it's such a valuable tool for me
Oh my God, it’s like you are me. I have the exact same habits. It s so good reading that I m not alone with my habits. I am happy that I found your channel. You are truly helping me in a lot of ways. I am thankful for you 🙏❤️
I am so happy to hear that we have so many similarities :) thank you so much for supporting my channel. I am so glad these videos are helpful to you 😍
Hi I write in my journal every morning or before sleeping. It s important for me to write all what s happened in my life all my future goals.
Thank so much lovely day
I find it incredibly important to reflect on our days ❤
This is such a lovely, calming and graceful channel. I've been researching slow living and ways of living more intentionally. Glad I found your channel..you have a very soothing presence and are very beautiful from the inside to the out. Great jounalling ideas, can't wait to try them out 💕
Thank you so much for your kind comment 🥰 I'm so happy to hear that these videos are calming. Much love from Maui
Great! I often express gratitude in my journal and sometimes I write letters to God, or letters of gratitude to my parents who are deceased. Thanks!
Ur vedio for me like a dessert for which u eagerly wait after a meal...I got ur vedio yesterday but I was very busy and tired but now it's weekend in my country and I will make a huge cup of tea and will enjoy ur vedio....u r such a great inspirstion to me....
Thank you so much 🥰 that is so kind of you
I journaled alot when I lived in the country in my late 20's. ❤️
I used to write daily goals in my planner.i don't write thoughts or other things.this is new to me.planning day is a productive for me.
I love that! such a good reminder to see your goals throughout the day :)
@@MalamaLife yeah.really i checked

Recently came across your channel, and girl i love your presence.. Listening to you makes me calm
Thank you so much for supporting! it means a lot
@@MalamaLife 🌼🌿 Thank you as well. Yes! I will post the capsule wardrobe once I'm done!🌼 Take care! 🤎
Every day I write down three positive things that happened during that day. I feel that it helps me to focus on the good things in my life. This is especially important during lockdown when we are surrounded by so much negativity. Also, I find your vlogs very peaceful and calming to watch. You are so lucky to to live somewhere that you can go outside into the sunshine every day (a luxury that I don’t have) Thank you for your videos, I appreciate them 💛
Sending you some sunshine from Maui! Journaling has helped me so much during lock down as well
Never thought how powerful journaling is. I even have moments wherein I just don't want to write but end up writing most. I learned that it is when you think that you need it least that it makes more sense to find refuge in writing.
So true! Just opening up my journal is sometimes the most difficult task. Once I start, I can't stop 🤣 thank you for watching
@@MalamaLife Definitely! Loving your videos and hope to connect with you :)
I hop that you will try Janna. It really helped me deal with my anxieties!
My goodness, 5 seconds in and I already feel at peace - using these techniques later!
Thank you Nicole 🥰 you're so sweet. Happy to hear that!
So much wisdom in this video, I’ve been journaling for about 3 years now and I’ve been looking for some new ways to journal! This video was super helpful, I’m going to try morning pages and a letter to my future self.✨✨✨
Thank you so much :) I hope you keep it going. I think it's so good for our mental health.
The place where you live is very calm .there is positive vibe all around
I live on Maui :) so lucky to live on a beautiful island
@@MalamaLife ❤️❤️
my favorite way of journaling is the unsent letter.Actually it's more like my prayer in the journal 😅.I am one of those who are guilty on not praying before sleeping and waking up in the morning.it really helps me a lot and it's really calming like I'm a step closer to our Savior!I started journaling way back 2009.as a student apprentice in a foreign country, journaling helps me overcome every hardwork, disappointment and even anger...I think I should be writing unsent letter again not just bulleting!thank you for sharing us the importance of journaling!more powers!❤️
You are so right! it is really calming and soothing to write out whatever is on our mind. I hope you start writing the letters again :)
@@MalamaLife Thank you!yup i will!anyway, new subie here!😊 please continue to inspire others!
Inspiring video ✨
I love doing morning pages/free writing.

You are so amazing, Sophie. 🌿
Your videos and your voice give me so much relaxation and a pure sense of joy.
Thank you very much, 💚💛
Thank you so much 💕😊 that is so incredibly sweet! So glad these videos are relaxing
Cheers!
Powerful video! Writing is a way of thinking, but in a calming, organized, fruitful way
So true :) thank you so much for watching
Thanks for this video and all your videos. I love them all. I agree on everything you say here about journaling. It's also my very favorite thing to do for myself and my wellbeing. Just wanted to send you a little word of encourageent for your effort and time you take to share these beautiful and positive messages with the world.
Sophie’s videos are my reminders when sometimes I lose track in life. 😂 Really grateful for your videos, Sophie. 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much Aime 🥰 that is so sweet! I definitely need reminders sometimes
Watching your videos before falling asleep. This makes me relax and gives clarity in some aspects of my struggling thoughts. Tnx!
Thank you for watching! Hope it was relaxing 😘❤
Yes, I recognize the aesthetics part. Having a journal that is not aesthetically pleasing has stopped me many times from making it a routine. I just started writing a journal again, and your tips are very helpful. I will try to focus on the process and not the end result of beautiful looking pages😀.
I really admire the beautiful bullet journals, but sometimes my hand can't even keep up with my thoughts 😁 thanks and best wishes ❤
@@MalamaLife That’s good to hear. I started a bullet journal this week, and I love how my mind already feels lighter!

That's so great that you use journaling to organize your thoughts. I personally love it. Thank you for watching
I'm here for your peaceful voice.
🥰 thanks Shaira
I love your Pronunciation and smiling....
Thanks, I’ve been meaning to start journaling again and this is a good reminder.
I hope you get started again :) such a great mindful practice
I love writing stories or my daydreams that come to mind.
Not sure if it is considered journaling but i call it " Imagination journaling"😀😀😀🤗🤗
It’s not your job to make sure you don’t disappoint anyone.”
you just gets better everytime😭❤️ your relaxing videos yes I miss this💕
Aww thank you so much! you are so sweet
Gratitude journaling.
Inspirational video. Thank you, Sophie.
Gratitude journaling always humbles me :) thank you so much
Wow, watching this video was as relaxing as meditation.

Thank you so much Mark. I love that you write about your successes. I don't know why I only write about my problems haha :) I hope you are doing well
