There is no overhang of the rear jaw when swiveled to the right. He should have gotten closer to the corner. If the frame is in the way underneath, double up a 2x12x12 platform and mount the vise on a platform corner, then mount the platform on the table. You can countersink bolts so the platform lays flat. That's why the platform is doubled. Also, if you use wing nuts you can make the platform easily removeable.

Nice video. I have the same bench and vise which is yet to be mounted.
What size bolts did you use?
Could you have placed the base so that one of the holes was in the corner of the bench top without being affected by the metal legs of the bench underneath? I’m trying ti figure out how I’ll mount mine. Also, have you secured the workbench to the wall or floor at all to avoid it moving when using the vise? Thanks!!

Just wanted to update that the Yost ADI-5 has .43” holes. The aforementioned 1/2” bolts WILL NOT FIT. Not sure if they updated the vise, or if the 1/2” bolt suggestion was in error.
Edit: After re-watching, a 5/16” drill was used for the final hole, leading me to believe a 1/2” bolt was never used.

Good video, thanks. How did you decide whether to put the vise on the Right or left corner?

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  2 роки тому +1

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. We really wanted it on the left side however the work bench will be going into a room where the left side will be flush with the wall.
This unfortunately would not give us the space to utilize the vise to its full potential.
Keep us posted on your project, thanks again for watching.

How thick is the wood bench top? My vise is around 68 pounds, so I was thinking of bolting down a sheet of maple plywood on top of my metal-topped 56-inch Harbor Freight toop chest & then bolting the vise through both the plywood & chest top. Not sure if 1/2" would suffice or should I use a 3/4" sheet........

Thanks for watching, you are very welcome. This exact bench comes with a 1” thick wood top. Hope this helps.

Because of this channel I was able to assemble my craftsman work bench! Subscribed!! How much does the vise weight?? I'm in the market for one and don't know the limits of bench. The 5 inch vise that I want is 27lbs and the 6 inch model is 38lbs. Do you think the 6 inch is too heavy?

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Thanks for sharing this & we subscribed to your channel as well.
We don’t recall the exact weight however we love the 5”. A 6” should work great as well.
This is an awesome bench & we have been very happy having it.

You could always swivel the vice to access the rear hole (instead of extending the jaw).

This is way after the fact but I would recommend replacing the bolts with longer ones. You want enough thread protrusion past the end of the nut to ensure the bolts don't back off prematurely.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders It's Ben (not Brian) and yes, unfortunately I've already ordered one but thank you. Might be wise to mention specific model in the video and provide that affiliate link in the description... I would've probably ordered it that way had you done that. Thanks again for the fast response and I look forward to it - hope I have the same positive experience with mine! Also, side note, but you could've also just rotated the vise to access the back bolt, rather than crank it all the way out for access... Keep up the good work! Regards - Ben
