This was a huge help! I bought one as an "open box" that had no instructions. Instructions from Lowes omit the cross bar. I'm glad you pointed out that each leg should be one inch inside the top (instructions should have noted that). I can't wait to add the drawers if they ever come back in stock.
A couple tips that helped me: after drilling the pilot holes (with the frame off, as instructed), screw in about a two turns to prep each hole. Secondly, to add the backsplash, just set the table forward with the front on the ground (protected, of course) and use painters tape to hold the backsplash in place while drilling. This was much easier at a 45 degree angle than straight up.
Thanks for watching, and we really appreciate you sharing your experience. Any and all helpful tips are greatly appreciated.
This workbench continues to fit our mission daily, so happy we purchased it. You will love the drawers. Looking forward to hearing back from you Glenn.
😎👍
I used vice grips from my sawhorse to clamp the backsplash to the wood. Didn’t even use a marker. Thanks for the idea.
Thanks for the great video. I put mine together today - by myself. Coulda had help, but noooo, not this old boy!. You see, I'm 72 years, work from a wheel chair because I'm a right leg, above the knee, amputee and do dialysis three times a week - but I ain't no weakling. To me, that wooden top was hard to handle - it was HEAVY. First, I set the heavy wooden part across two saw horses in my shed and assembled the metal frame atop it. Using those bolts, washers and screws was aggravating, almost lost my religion. I guess my big hands was the problem - I didn't use all the washers, At least when you fumbled and dropped one, It fell into and was caught by the upright work bench's leg. After assembling the frame and tightening down the its nuts and bolts, I set the frame, right-side-up on the floor and placed the heavy wooden bench to the top. Since I didn't want to get out of my wheel chair and sit on the floor, to screw the top to the frame, I used #10 x 5/8 self drilling screws to reach under and drill. Beat doing 1/8 inch pilot holes and using their screws. I wish it wasn't so tall, because I'm gonna use it to hold my new Dillon 550C bullet reloading press and reloading equipment. I'll certainly have no problem sitting in my wheel chair under the work bench as I reload. Lowe's had free assembly, but if I had let them, there's no way it would have fit in my 05 Honda CR-V to get it home. I wonder what the assembled bench weighs. It is HEAVY. I put four on those 3-wheel triangular caster furniture moving things under it (got them from Amazon) so I can roll it around in my shed. To me, it is a stout, well made work bench.
We are very honored you took the time to share your experience. Your method is very appropriate and impressive under the circumstances you mentioned. Impressive!
Well done on your behalf and you are spot on, the wood top table portion is heavy.
We have enjoyed this workbench since the very day we purchased it, it has served our mission well.
It is almost a special guest in 100% of our DIY videos moving forward. 😁
We added the drawers and liner, as well as installed a swivel vise to it. WE LOVE IT.
Using this as a reloading station for you is a great idea. We hope this workbench serves you well as it has us, not one single day has it let us down.

Just bought it. Watched your video. Finished mined and looks great. Great job!
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. That’s awesome!!
We love this bench & have never regretted purchasing it. It’s the perfect size & we love the famous Craftsman red combined with the wood finish.
😎👍
Thanks for the detailed video! Thinking of getting one of these benches for ski tuning and needed to make sure there's enough overhang on the front side to add clamps to hold skis. Looks like it will work well for that.
Christopher, thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. This bench has been perfect for us. We absolutely love it!
It should work out perfectly for your mission as well. Very well built design & very DIY friendly to put together.
Keep us posted on if you get one. 😎👍
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Got one today and putting it together now. Maybe it’ll make an appearance in a future video over on our channel @StowedStuff

This workbench has been nothing shy of perfect, we have zero complaints. Enjoy your weekend, thanks again Joe.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I just finished putting mine together and already enjoying it. Great job again on the video!

Awesome. 😎👍
Got mine all done. Thx for the great video
You are very welcome, did you build it today? How do you like it so far?
We couldn’t be happier with our bench. We are uploading our boat video series over the next few weeks & we use this bench in every video.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I built mine last Saturday. And I love it

Awesome! 😎👍
Thank you so much. You explained it perfectly.
You are very welcome Monica, thank YOU!!! 😁👍🧰
I have looked at the tabletop 30 times and Can Not tell which side is treated. They both look the same 🙄
I know what you mean. The most glaring contrast is that there are more knot holes on the underside, compared to the top.
Mine was lighter on one side. The dark side had a lot of square patterns and wouldn’t look good exposed.
Great tutorial, thank you.

Thanks so much! This was really helpful as the instructions that came with the bench were not very clear. Can you share what socket wrench you used?
Great video and tutorial on installation. After having it for awhile, have you noticed if it transfers vibration at all? Like for cutting or sawing does it shake or wiggle? On the fence on getting this one or a heavier yet more expensive bench. Any info would be great, thank you!
Thanks for watching & we installed the drawer kit very soon after. That added quite a lot of weight to the bench itself. We have never noticed any shake, wiggle, or vibration. This bench has exceeded all expectations!!!
We love it! 😁👍
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Awesome, glad to hear it. May have to look into the drawer kit if I go that route to give it that added weight

So the darker wood side has to be facing down, and the lighter wood should be the top/main side? I can't tell which side is the coated/more durable side, seems like they're both coated idk, but I do feel like the lighter wood is less bright so not sure
Good morning, we are drinking our morning coffee answering any and all questions for the DIY community.
Does one side have a slightly more smooth finish than the other side…as if they spent just a few more minutes sanding that side and perfecting its finish? If so, that’s the more likely side to have displayed on top for better presentation. Keep us posted.

Do you know what the height of the bench is from the floor to the underside of the top? I'm looking at getting some rolling storage cabinets to put under my bench (which I haven't assembled yet), but I'm not sure what will fit under there. Thanks!
Hey what’s up Mike, we just went to the workbench & measured. Total height from floor to bottom portion of wood platform is: 39 3/4”
Hope this helps. 😎👍
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thanks so much! I appreciate you doing that for me.

Hey man, that’s what we’re here for. We DIYers need to stick together!!!
😎👍
Hey mike, did you happen to add the rolling storage below the bench? I was thinking of doing the same thing and wondered if it worked?
@@TReagan81 Hi Terry. I didn't end up going with the rolling storage underneath the workbench. I stuffed a vacuum and a couple of stools underneath it instead. I think there are a couple other videos floating around about adding drawers to this bench. Good luck!
Is it wobbly at all?
Thanks for watching, its firm and strong. Not wobbly at all. We love it! 😁👍🧰
do you actually bolt the vice directly to the table?
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. We did, we love it. Just used it today for the filming of a Gimble Bearing tutorial.
😎👍
But how can I get drawers I don’t see them

Definitely recommend adding the drawers, this workbench is the BEST!!!
Craftsman discontinued the drawers about a year ago.
I wish the top was 1.25 inch thick
Definitely understandable. 😎👍
