- In this video I make a swivel base from scratch out of 3/4" steel plate. This project wouldn't have been possible without my Torchmate 4400 Plasma Table. This thing has bee absolutely game changing in the shop!

Great job detailing the entire process. Beautiful result.
Wow. Carbide cutters do not like interrupted cutting. Glad you did it right. Well done sir.
This has been my favorite video of yours thus far
That’s nice. Remids me of my 4 yrs in machine shop at HS in the early 70’s.
i just so happy that you decided to give that vice to me ,damn nice of you, thanks
Hope you cold blue the base. Great video of a custom piece. That plasma cutter earned it's pay.✌
Less speed and more feed is what needs to happen on turning something like that. Always a fun dance learning feeds and speeds on machine tools.
Man of many talents! Nice work.
Thanks for sharing,
DC
Chris, Love how you take on anything. Super job on the swivel base. Thanks for providing all of the information you share.
Thank for watching!
Awesome as usual Chris!!!
Thank you matt!
Thanks for the upload, Been looking at ways to make one for a both my 6" offset & 8" mill vice and this was def a good overview on your project not to mention few cool tools added to the dream box :) if i ever get back to work again lol.
Strange how in life we can have health issues or such that take us out of the game and make us broke you feel there is no coming back but we will still enjoy those few moments in the workshop and watching videos like this that remind us to keep trying :)
Great build.
Superb work again Chris!
Wow that thing looks great, Nice job 👍 👍
Nice video. The build is fantastic. That PAPR is cool and smart. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Oh man! I need a swivel base from scratch.. but I'm not equipped to fabricate that. Just found a 220lb chas parker no.2 6inch jaws with the swivel base broken!!! Amazing work as per usual
That is a really nice job!
Thank you for watching!
I like your style. You earned my subscription!!
Excellent, excellent work as well as very informative instructional video...Thank You
Great video. Thank you. I like your double-speed, narrated video style.
Thank you for watching!
well done that man.
SMART using the PAFR!
Now thats quality work and skill to turn separate parts to look like one very interesting to watch and I really enjoyed it thanks for sharing stay safe all the best god bless
Thanks for watching, it was a really fun project and i enjoyed blending the plates together and making it look like a solid cast piece. I cant wait to do more projects like this!
Very worthy base for that awesome Wilton vice.
Awesome job it turned out very well. Hopefully it gets great use out of it. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Can't wait to see ur next videos. Keep Making. Fab On. Weld On. God Bless.
Ahh I just inherited a 5" Wilton vise too, but the base was missing.. Wish I had the knowlege and tools to make one like you, that was awesome!
Nicely done mate. The plasma cutter did a surprisingly good job on such thick material.
i ordered those same pferd discs and all i can say i wow....the eat metal like butter :)
They are amazing!
IIRC starting the cutting torch right on the intended cut line creates a hole, 1/2 of which remains in the work (one of your tabs had that sort of notch?). If you start enough off the line in the waste for the burn thru (farther off line for thicker material cuz longer burn thru), then progress the pass in a short radius onto the work you should get a cleaner start/stop. I'll definitely try those abrasives. Sweet build, looking forward to the finish vid.
Awesome, I like vises and have about 10 of them in my tiny shop! Great fab job!
Very nice swivel base build. Amazing how many times such swivel abilities comes in extremely handy using a bench vice. Thumbs Up for sure.
This was a great video build. Thank you !
Well, you just made yourself a nice lil product to sell. Congrats!
Oh man you have a lot of nice tools! Congrats on that and thank you for sharing another awesome project!
Damn Chris! That thing turned out freakin awesome! Awesome vid.
Thank you!!
Nicely done. Love those Wilton vises. They’re certainly worth saving. They have such a nice smooth and straight operation that makes them fantastic.
I noticed the missing end cap. Some Wilton peeps, say you can use a freeze plug in it's place. Just a thought. Loved your finish work!
Also, thanks for the safety tip. I’m going to look into that papr
Man i've been looking for a video like this like a week ago, nice timing bro. It's really useful for people outside of the US as we really don't have the option of getting the missing parts online
Looks great man 🤙
Great job on the swivel base! Even unfinished it looks awesome! 👌🦾
Really looking forward on seeing the vise and swivel base painted :-)
Would love to see you paint up the vise and base. Can't wait for that video to come out! Great job!
Nice Job, Thanks for sharing.
this was cool!
Thanks!
Cool project! If your torchmate software has overcut function, you might want to use it to get rid of those little tabs that hold inner parts from falling through. As an example, if you set overcut to 5mm on a hole, the torch will go extra 5mm past the cut beginning, preventing those tabs from forming.
Thanks for the tip! Great idea! Usually I work with much thinner material and haven’t had any issue but I’ll keep that in mind for the thick stuff! Appreciate it
Great build, very professional!
Great job
The clamps on my Wilton bullet vise the heads look like large acorn nuts. I love them because you can just crank down on them. Also I rarely change the swivel
Great work Chris! Now its time to do a cool restoration act on this vice just like the one you did some time ago on that Chas Parker 205-p vice. That my friend was a piece of art. TREMENDOUS!!! keep working...be safe.
Thank you! Im gong to do this one up nice!
@@MakeEverything go for it man. you got skills.
Looks good
great job- looks like a perfect match
Awesome project! Ive been looking for an old wilton. Looking forward to the restoration
Great job, now clean up the vise with wire wheel, and paint orange 🍊
Very nice Job! Have you considered bead blasting the base? Will make it look more uniform and cast-like.
The factory cast iron bases on the larger Wiltons have a habit of breaking, my C3 has no base due to that fact, your base will be indestructible. Nice job!
Thanks for watching! It’s a beast!
Nice!!!!
I always enjoy watching you fab stuff. It surprised me when you got out that swage block. It sure looked like one of the blocks I sold. But I know I have seen some others that look like mine. I sure wish I still had the ability to make the tooling I was making and selling.
Thank you for watching! Thats one of your blocks! I got it from Chris Cash, its great!
@@MakeEverything Wow Thanks hope you get years of use.
Love it! I’m not clear, is there any function to the cutouts in the swivel plate or is just kind of what the original cast ones look like?
First hit like, then watch video. Greetings from Serbia!
Thank you!
slow down the part the out side is spinning really fast. The center seamed to cut nice, as it is going at the right speed. Check out this old Tony for some tips. Great video.
sweet job wish the sound was better
I even got a new mic for this one
Solo se necesita una máquina de miles de dólares! 😂
Hi there great video! I just picked up a 3.5 inch Wilton that I need to make a swivel base for! Would you be willing to share the drawings so I can plasma cut it was well? Thanks in advance!
Any chance you'd cut a swivel base out on your cnc for my wilton? I haven't found a replacement.
HI , GREATE BULD, WELL DONE. WHAT IS IN THE BELT PACK YOU ARE WEARING? . REGARRDS R.
Its a powered respirator system that is filtering the air and putting it back up through my welding hood. its called the PAPR unit. bit.ly/3stwSD2
Very cool. (Also, new microphone?)
👍
Would you be willing to make a base for a 4 inch Wilton bullet vice?? I do not have access to any of the tools you used to make this swivel base.
what are the things that actually clamp the vise to the swivel part called
what do you do with the bench vises you fix? would you like to sell me one?
How much would you charge to make one sir.
Perhaps your sparks is due to spinning too fast.
I laugh in the face of danger
👍👍😎👍👍
Why not just buy those parts from Wilton? They are still in business!
this isnt a powered hammer video!!! seriously though i have made several powered hammers of different types if you would like advice/help.
